Hey,
We are running late with the post. We hit the Long Beach swap meet to collect parts for the Mudflap Girl bikes, Bonneville projects for next year, you name it. That damn, every two week event was jammed, and it was just followed by the El Camino Vintage Swapmeet, yesterday 10 miles away.
Since the shooting in Reno, there were rumors that Vegas Bikefest would be impacted, but I don’t believe there have been any changes to Bikefest (see report below, hotels are sold out). We’re heading out next week. I’m judging the Bike Show and the Bikini Contest. I’m getting edgy. The pressure is mounting.
Let’s hit the news:
ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HISTORIC YALE MOTORCYCLES–Took these shots of a Yale Bike at the Motorcycle Museum in Solvang CA. Not sure of the exact year, looks pretty close to the one in story.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY MEANING OF LIFE STUDIES PROGRAM–A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.
As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.
The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.
Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3) And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut!

RARE FERRARIS LEAD superb ROSTER OF BLUE CHIP AUTOMOBILES FOR uk’s premier collector car auction– LONDON (22 September, 2011) – A rare competition-bred 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Tour de France, chassis number 1039 GT, and a multiple race-winning 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza Scaglietti Spyder, chassis number 0502 M, have been confirmed as star attractions for RM Auctions’ annual Battersea sale, returning to Central London, England on the 26th of October, 2011.
Regarded as the UK’s premier collector car auction, the highly-anticipated sale will feature approximately 100 of the world’s finest motor cars, handpicked by RM specialists from 15 countries around the world. In addition to the automobiles, the single-day auction will extend RM’s growing presence in the collectible motorcycle market, with a select range of classic bikes also set to go under the hammer.
Headlining the offering is a rare, matching-numbers 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Tour de France, s/n 1039 GT (pictured top), one of the most desirable competition-bred Ferraris in existence. Powered by an alloy block-and-head V-12 engine, 1039 GT is one of just 36 competition 250 GT LWB Berlinettas originally produced by Ferrari with the single vent and desirable covered headlamp configuration. Delivered new to California in November 1958, 1039 GT boasts a well-documented chain of ownership, having spent the vast majority of its life in the United States and later Switzerland. Beautifully-presented, it was restored by marque experts in Italy in 2005 before being purchased by its current owner in 2006. A matching-numbers, Ferrari certified example, it remains one of the marque’s most coveted models and is expected to garner significant attention from collectors at the upcoming sale. (Est. £2,000,000 – £2,400,000).
The 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza Scaglietti Spyder, chassis number 0502 M (pictured right), is also expected to attract significant interest from discerning collectors. One of just 29 examples built, 0502 M was also delivered new by the Ferrari factory to California, where it was successfully campaigned in period by Ernie McAfee and, later, by Masten Gregory and other luminaries.
Interestingly, it is the only example of a 750 Monza constructed without a headrest and fairing, a feature which gives the car a unique and highly appealing aesthetic. In 2000, 0502 M was restored in Modena to exact original specifications and later received its Ferrari Classiche certification. An immensely desirable early racing Ferrari, in recent years it has enjoyed significant success on the showfield at concours events throughout the United States and Europe (Est. £1,550,000 – £1,800,000).
Other important examples from the famed Italian marque up for bids include: a Ferrari-certified 1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast, s/n 6659 SF, one of only eight Superfasts built in right-hand drive (Est. £580,000 – £650,000); a long-nose 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Alloy Berlinetta (Est. £640,000 – £700,000); a unique 1980 Ferrari Pinin Prototipo, s/n 99788, the one and only four-door Ferrari ever built (Est. £480,000 – £550,000); and, an excellent 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, s/n 5167 GT, offered for the first time in over two decades (Est. £400,000 – £480,000). Also set to cross the podium, a highly-equipped, custom 2001 Iveco Domino HDH Orlandi Scuderia Ferrari F1 Driver’s Coach, used by the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team during the Schumacher / Barrichello years (Est. £200,000 – £300,000, offered without reserve).
In addition to the Ferraris, Alfa-Romeo will also be well-represented at the forthcoming London sale, with six examples featured in the catalogue. Joining the previously announced 1972 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/TT/3 is a competitive 1980 Alfa Romeo Tipo 179 Formula One Monoposto, chassis 03, designed by Autodelta boss Carlo Chiti as Alfa Romeo’s comeback weapon following a long absence from Formula 1 and raced by Bruno Giacomelli during the 1980 season (Est. £110,000 – £150,000); and a stunning, highly-desirable 1955 Alfa Romeo 1900 SS Berlinetta, one of only 39 berlinettas built and featuring iconic Zagato “double bubble” coachwork (Est. £280,000 – £340,000).
Illustrating the breadth of the offering, other notable blue-chip sale entries include:
· a highly-original 1972 Lamborghini Miura SV, featuring factory-fitted air conditioning and a limited slip differential (Est. £750,000 – £900,000);
· a matching-numbers 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT, one of 75 GT examples built (Est. £780,000 – £880,000);
· a stunning 1930 Bugatti T46 “Petit Royale”, one of the most elegant closed T46s in existence (Est. £450,000 – £550,000);
· a freshly-restored 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing (£475,000 – £575,000);
· an ‘as new’ 2005 Pagani Zonda C12 7.3 S Roadster (Est. £425,000 – £475,000);
· a well-documented 1913 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Open Tourer “London to Edinburgh”, delivered new to the Maharaja of Patiala (Est. £380,000 – £500,000);
· The oldest known 40/50 HP Silver Ghost in existence, the 1907 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Limousine, chassis number 547 (Est. £310,000 – £440,000); and,
· a rare 1938 Jaguar SS 100 3 ? Litre Roadster, formerly owned for over 40 years by the family of American antiques experts, authors and television hosts, Leigh and Leslie Keno (Est. £325,000 – £425,000).

THE GAY COWBOY– A successful rancher died and left everything to his devoted wife. She was a very good-looking woman and determined to keep the ranch, but knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for a ranch hand.
Two cowboys applied for the job. One was gay and the other a drunk.
She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk.
He proved to be a hard worker who put in long hours every day and knew a lot about ranching.
For weeks, the two of them worked, and the ranch was doing very well.
Then one day, the rancher’s widow said to the hired hand, “You have done a really good job, and the ranch looks great. You should go into town and kick up your heels.” The hired hand readily agreed and went into town one Saturday night.
One o’clock came, however, and he didn’t return.
Two o’clock and no hired hand.
Finally he returned a round two-thirty, and upon entering the room, he found the rancher’s widow sitting by the fireplace with a glass of wine, waiting for him.
She quietly called him over to her..
“Unbutton my blouse and take it off,” she said.
Trembling, he did as she directed. “Now take off my boots.”
He did as she asked, ever so slowly. “Now take off my socks.”
He removed each gently and placed them neatly by her boots.
“Now take off my skirt.”
He slowly unbuttoned it, constantly watching her eyes in the fire light.
“Now take off my bra.” Again, with trembling hands, he did as he was told and dropped it to the floor.
Then she looked at him and said, “If you ever wear my clothes into town again, you’re fired.”
(P.S. – I didn’t see it coming, either)

911 RIDE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA A MAJOR SUCCESS, GROWS EVERY YEAR– This ride took place Sunday from Cook’s Corners to Laguna, Newport, Huntington and finally to the end of Los Alamitos Bay. The organizer anticipated about 3,000 bikes and I think there were at least that many, but then I haven’t been to Sturgis. You can gather some idea of the crowd from my shot of a vintage military plane fly over.
Many unique aspects to this event (I have a # of photos). The most interesting is this is the third year and the organizer was charging $ 30 per bike with $ 15 charge for the second rider. There was no control point at Cook’s Corners and I could see no control point Los Alamitos Bay, so I guess everyone was on the honor system.
Stay tuned
PS. Tony printed 1,000 Indian Day Brochures. I have at least four events to attend, and I only delivered 80 at Cook’s Corners before my printer was out of ink, it’s cheaper to print them? Can’t wait for Indian Day at the NHRA Museum.

OCEANSIDE POLICE TO FOCUS ON MOTORCYCLE SAFETY– Expect Intensified Traffic Enforcement Through Weekend
OCEANSIDE, Calif. — In an effort to cut down on motorcycle crashes in Oceanside, the city’s police department will focus intensified traffic enforcement Thursday through Saturday in neighborhoods where they most frequently occur.
“Officers will be looking for drivers and riders who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol and cracking down on traffic violations … that can lead to motorcycle collisions, injuries and fatalities,” OPD Lt. Leonard Mata said.
California road-accident data reveal that the primary causes of motorcycle-involved crashes in the state include speeding, unsafe turns and intoxication, the lieutenant said.
“The Oceanside Police Department is also reminding all motorists to always be alert and watch out for motorcycles, especially when turning and changing lanes,” he said.
Until two years ago, motorcycle fatalities had been on the rise in California, increasing 175 percent between 1998 and 2008, according to Mata. IN 2009, however, the state experienced a 29.6 percent reduction, and preliminary 2010 numbers indicate another 10 percent drop, he said.
Some of the improvement can be attributed to a reduction in the number of improperly licensed riders, Mata added.
Training courses in accident-free riding practices are available through the state Motorcyclist Safety Program, which can be reached at 877-743-3411.

NEW DUCATI SUPERBIKES; They call it the Pan-ee-gah-lee–Ducati officially announces the naming of its new generation 2012 Superbike as the Ducati 1199 Panigale and confirms that the unveiling and first public display will be at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy, November 10-13, 2011.
Having attracted massive, world-wide interest during the machine’s many test phases, the exciting new model is also now officially named in an emotional video released on the Italian manufacturer’s website, www.ducatiusa.com, and Ducati Motor Holding’s official Youtube channel. The wait to discover the incredible performance, innovative design and ground-breaking technologies of the new 1199 Panigale will continue for just a few more weeks.
Pronounced “Pan-ee-gah-lee”, the new model breaks with Ducati’s Superbike tradition by adding a name to its 1199cc engine capacity (referred to as eleven-nine-nine), making a significant and warm association to its historic roots in the Borgo Panigale area of Bologna. In an Italian territory known as “Motor Valley” and where high performance and racing runs through the veins of its passionate people, Ducati now underline their pride in being world ambassadors for the “Made in Italy” title by immortalizing their home town in the name of the new Superbike.
Developed as a true sport bike with competition in its DNA, the Ducati 1199 Panigale will first see racing action in the 2012 FIM Superstock Championship and, in accordance with the factory’s development program, make its debut in World Superbike in 2013.
The two-stage introduction enables Ducati additional development for the Superbike version of the 1199 Panigale, appropriate to the more open regulations of the World Superbike category, and in addition help control costs for World Superbike teams who can continue to compete with a 2012 version of the 1198 with technical support from Ducati Engineers.

GUN NUT REPORT: Four Anti-Gun Bills Now on California Governor’s Desk–
Governor Brown MUST Hear from Gun Owners and Sportsmen TODAY!
Three of the four anti-gun bills that passed the California legislature have been presented to Governor Jerry Brown. He has about two weeks to decide whether to sign or veto these bills. The NRA has requested Governor Brown to veto these bills, but he will need to hear from California’s gun owners that such legislation only affects and penalizes law-abiding citizens while having no affect on crime or criminals.
On a good note, one pro-gun bill did make it to Governor Brown’s desk, Senate Bill 610.
It is critical to call AND e-mail Governor Brown every day respectfully urging him to VETO SB 427, SB 819, AB 144 and AB 809.
Also, please urge him to SIGN into law SB 610.
Below is a description of each of the bills Governor Brown has to consider:
Assembly Bill 809 would require the registration of any newly purchased long guns. Not only does AB 809 violate Second Amendment rights by expanding California’s gun registry to include rifles and shotguns, it would also be a huge waste of taxpayer money at a time when California is drowning in debt. Gun control advocates estimate the cost of this registration at $400,000, a number that is almost certainly far less than it will actually cost to implement and enforce this registry if enacted. The only value of registration is to help governments confiscate firearms in the future. This is also NOT a program California wants to start while the state is drowning in debt.
Senate Bill 427 would grant authority to law enforcement to collect sales records from ammunition retailers, require ammunition vendors to notify local law enforcement of their intention to engage in the business of selling ammunition AND includes a list of calibers which would have to be registered to purchasers at the point-of-purchase. This list contains ammunition popular among hunters and collectors. This point-of-sale registration of all ammunition purchases in the state would be available for inspection by the California Department of Justice at any time. If enacted, SB 427 would add significant costs to the state, in terms of enforcement and lost sales tax revenue by driving business out-of-state.
Senate Bill 819 would allow the Department of Justice to use the Dealer Record of Sales (DROS) funds to help pay for enforcement of California firearm possession laws in the Armed & Prohibited Persons Systems program. The DROS fund monies were originally collected from every firearm purchaser to pay for the administrative process for background checks. This bill will divert and drain hundreds of thousands of dollars of DROS fee monies that YOU have paid for background checks. As a result, the DROS fund will certainly run out of money. When it does, they will almost certainly want another increase in the fees YOU PAY for FIREARM background checks in California.
Assembly Bill 144 would ban the open carrying of an unloaded handgun. In reality, the open carrying of firearms by law-abiding citizens is caused by California’s unfair concealed carry laws, which allow citizens from one county to apply for and receive a permit while neighbors in the next county are denied that basic right in an arbitrary manner.
Senate Bill 610would standardize the application process for a permit to carry a concealed handgun. SB 610 would also delete the requirement that a CCW applicant obtain liability insurance as a condition of obtaining a CCW permit.
It is critical that you, your family, your friends and fellow gun owners in California CALL and E-MAIL Governor Brown to respectfully urge him to VETO SB 427, SB 819, AB 144 and AB 809 and to SIGN into law SB 610.
Contact information for Governor Brown can be found here.
It’s important that Governor Brown hears from every gun owner and sportsmen in California TODAY.

CA Hells Angel Boss Dead in Nev. Casino Shootout–The city canceled its part in an annual multi-city motorcycle festival on Saturday and neighboring Reno increased police patrol amid fears of retaliation over the shooting death of a prominent Hells Angels boss by a rival gang.
Jeffrey “Jethro” Pettigrew, the 51-year-old head of the motorcycle gang’s San Jose chapter, was killed late Friday in a shootout that sent hotel guests and gamblers diving under tables at John Ascuaga’s Nugget hotel-casino, police said. Two California members of the Vagos Motorcycle Club also were wounded.
The gunfight apparently sparked a retaliatory drive-by shooting several hours after the casino gunfire, prompting Mayor Geno Martini to declare a formal state of emergency. A motorcyclist was injured after he was shot Saturday morning.
“We don’t want to alarm our residents,” he said. “The declaration merely provides some tools and tactics our city can and should use if it comes to that.”
“We don’t expect further violence, but we must be prepared,” he added.
Martini said he also pulled the plug on the live entertainment and other festivities in Sparks related to Street Vibrations, an annual weekend-long event that has drawn tens of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts to the area for 18 years.
PHOTO: In this Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 photo, officers keep an eye on handcuffed men at the east entrance to John Ascuaga’s Nugget after a shooting in Sparks, Nev.
Festival organizers had said they expected up to 30,000 visitors to this year’s event, which began Thursday and was to run through Sunday in Reno, Sparks and Virginia City.
The man who was shot in the stomach during the drive-by shooting had been riding a motorcycle down the street from the public square where the festival was anchored. He was not being identified for his protection, police said.
That man was in stable condition, as were the two wounded Vagos members — Leonard Ramirez, 45, who was shot in the abdomen, and Diego Garcia, 28, who was shot in the leg.
Deputy Police Chief Brian Allen said investigators could not independently link the casino to the attack on the cyclist, which was carried out by a gunman in a black sedan with tinted windows.
But Martini told the Reno Gazette-Journal that it “definitely” was a case of retaliation.
Allen said there were no suspects in the killing of Pettigrew but that police arrested one Hells Angel member from California in connection with the shootings at the casino. Cesar Villagrana, 36, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen firearm, Allen said. He said Villagrana was caught on videotape shooting into the crowd, but there was no evidence yet that he struck anyone.
Allen appealed for assistance from any witnesses who might have videotaped or photographed any portion of the incident.
Martini said he had been in contact with Gov. Brian Sandoval, who pledged support if the city needed more law enforcement resources.
Allen said law enforcement was monitoring traffic on I-80 and other main routes into Reno but had no indication any motorcycle clubs were attempting to marshal more forces in the area.

BIKERNET READER COMPELLED TO WRITE–
I’ve never felt compelled to email you before about anything I seen in the Thursday news. But after reading Mike Pullens article I had to.
Way too many dickwads running around playing 1%er after watching too many episodes of SOA, which is why when I read what he had to say it made my blood boil just a tad.
Does Mike Pullen really believe that there is a 1%er club call SOA, does he not understand that HD sponsors a FUCKING TV SHOW!!!!!! and not a “real” motorcycle club.
You need to post some rebuttal to his article in the next news please.

TRAFFIC STOP Doesn’t Void Fourth Amendment Protection–On the heels of our E-newsletter last week (#141, A Man’s Car is His Castle comes a story with a different twist on the connection between cars, homes, and protection under the law.
In 2007, the police in Sulphur, Oklahoma attempted to pull over a car after noticing what they felt were faulty taillights. The young driver, Joshua Burchett, didn’t stop until he reached his parents’ home a few blocks away. Then, after parking in the driveway, Burchett quickly disappeared inside the home.
A police deputy requested backup and then pounded on the door of the home. Burchett’s father, Jose Mascorro, opened the door to the sight of a police revolver pointed at his head, along with shouted demands to drop to his knees.
Christina Mascorro appeared at the door to see what was going on with her husband and son. She asked the officer if he had a warrant; the response was a blast of pepper spray to her face. Ms. Mascorro was able to call 911 as the police entered the home with guns still drawn.
Burchett was arrested, as were his parents who were charged with obstructing justice. The parents sued the police, citing illegal entry, excessive force, and false arrest. The police countered that they had qualified immunity from prosecution because their actions were justified while chasing a suspect.
The Burchett case reached the Tenth Circuit US Court of Appeals, where the three-judge panel found that law enforcement’s forced and warrantless entry into the home to hunt down a driver fleeing from a traffic stop was not justified, as it might be for certain felony cases.
The appellate court found that the Mascorros could sue the police, who lost their qualified immunity when they conducted an illegal search and seizure.
The judges’ ruling concluded, “No reasonable officer would have thought pursuit of a minor for a mere misdemeanor traffic offense constituted the sort of exigency permitting entry into a home without a warrant.”
With that backdrop, it is especially important to report a story in which one of the nation’s higher courts upheld the strict principles of the Fourth Amendment, reproduced in its simple but elegant language here:
This is from National Motorists Association.
I wonder if it would apply to motorcycles

MOTORCYCLE THEFTS DOWN OVER THREE YEARS– Study concludes Motorcycle thefts in the United States were down 24 percent in 2010 from their 2007 total, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, which says 49,791 motorcycles were reported stolen in 2010, compared to 65,678 in 2007.
The top five makes stolen last year were: (1) Honda, 12,260; (2) Yamaha, 9,853; (3) Suzuki, 7,869; (4) Kawasaki, 5,470; and (5) Harley-Davidson, 3,301. Combined, these five brands accounted for 38,753 thefts in 2010, or 77.8 percent of the total.
For 2010, the top five states with the most motorcycle thefts were: (1) California, 5,662; (2) Texas, 4,394; (3) Florida, 4,148; (4) North Carolina, 2,649; and (5) Indiana, 1,925. These five states accounted for 18,778 thefts, or 37.7 percent of the total.
Not surprising, in 2010, the summer months of July (5,714) and August (5,380) saw the most theft activity. The fewest thefts were recorded during the months of February (2,403) and December (2,763). Over the entire period covered by this report, 2007-2010, July recorded the most thefts (26,352) while the fewest occurred in December (13,944). The complete motorcycle theft report is available here.
All data is from theft reports contained in the National Crime Information Center.

COOK’S BONNEVILLE SHOOTOUT–Attention Race enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies! We only have good news to report from last week’s Bonneville Salt Flats, “Cook’s Shootout” adventure. After a short recap that started at the crack of Dawn last Sunday the 17th.
Peeled out after packing all the stuff a guy might need for a week on the road, more socks than any man can use. Had everything except the part that would be needed an hour into the trip. Cruisin an easy 65 to 70 mph on the 210 headed out of the bowels of Los Angeles, headed directly into a multi colored, fantastic sunrise without a worry on my mind and the hot rod Salt Shaker Pan was purrin’ a sweet tune in the fast lane. You guessed it, to good to be true for the first long road trip since setting Bonneville records. Rolled to San Diego a month ago on a shake down cruise without a single hassle.
Anyway, the Pan suddenly lost all power while crusin’ in the fast lane. With luck on my side the early morning rush was a few miles behind and moving over four active lanes headed for the under pass was a breeze, not even a near miss. Checked the fuel filter, we have fuel. Removed my trusty tool bag looking for a set of Allen wrenches, needed the missing one of course, (Code of the West- the one you need is the missing one).
Aha, found one that sufficed in a full set of Metric tools, removed the distributor cap and checked for anything suspicious, all appeared normal. Removed a plug wire, inserted my screwdriver in the plug end and spun the motor over, No Spark to the plugs.
Help me Mr. Wizard–
While waiting under the overpass in the shade a CHP stopped to nose around, driver’s license and passport please, “don’t move” he said while lookin’ at the hot rod. “Wow is this the Salt Shaker on Bikernet that ran at Bonneville?”
After checkin out my papers he hauled ass lookin’ for revenue to fill the state’s coffers.
Notified the Interglactic Bikernet Headquarter’s Boss, who just happened to have the keys to my truck in hand. Less than hour later we were loaded and headed to the barn with the no-spark Panhead.
Unloaded the Pan and loaded the Ranger for the Bonneville 685 mile trek, arriving early that evening.
Monday 9/19
Arrived on the salt early Monday just in time to watch Erin & Andy ride their hot rod 2-up at 173.3 mph on the first pass of the event. Erin was the pilot one way, with Andy gripping the handlebars on the return run. Tuesday morning they saddled up and ran 185.3 mph for their top speed of the meet, two up.
On Monday Richard Assen set an AMA record at 253.5 mph, while George Poteet, strapped in the “Speed Demon” ran a mere 442.8 mph in the timed mile.
Tuesday 9/20
Early morning and Leslie Porterfield’s bike was spittin and sputterin at an easy 175.8 mph. The Spirit of Rett ran ran a 370.3 mph with a back up of 362.4 for a 366.374 mph pending record. Al Lamb made an easy pass @209.8 mph. Jamie William’s ran 214.9 for a pending FIM record.
Wednesday 9/21
At 9:48 Al Lamb warmed his bike up and ran a fairly easy 239.5 mph. While Richard Assen set a pending FIM record @261.243 mph.
Thursday 9/22
7:22 am and Al Lamb pulled off a 242.9 mph straight down the middle pass with a back up pass of 240.5 mph for a two way average at 241.819 mph. But wait there’s more.
Friday 9/23
7:17 am and Al is on the track and may not be satisfied with yesterday’s 241.819 mph record, we’ll see. First pass Al blistered the salt with a 247.9 mph pass, followed with a 242.8 mph run. Two way average for a new, pending record is 245.361 mph.

Rocky Robinson
We had a near miss Monday afternoon. Rocky in the Ack streamliner experienced a pencil roll at about 100 mph while testing the traction control. Not to worry, Rocky broke a collar bone, took a day off and appears to be fine today. One helleva man. Note: See Rocky’s wild and detailed report on the home page now!
Later this week we will roll toward Las Vegas for the Bike Fest 2011 event.
See ya there?

Cop: The motorcycle is stolen?
Biker: Yep, but I think I saw the registration card in the tool bag when I was putting my gun in there.
Cop: There’s a gun in the tool bag?
Biker: Yes sir. That’s where I put it after I shot and killed the dude who owns this bike and stuffed his dope in the saddle bags.
Cop: There’s drugs in the saddle bags too?!?!?
Biker: Yes, sir.
Finally the rookie cop called his captain. The biker was quickly surrounded by police, and the captain approached the biker to handle the tense situation:
Captain: Sir, can I see your license? Biker: Sure. Here it is. (It was valid.)
Captain: Whose motorcycle is this?
Biker: It’s mine, officer. Here’s the registration.
Captain: Could you slowly open your tool bag so I can see if there’s a gun in it?
Biker: Yes, sir, but there’s no gun in it. Sure enough, there was nothing in the tool bag.
Captain: Would you mind opening your saddle bags? I was told you said there are drugs in them.
Biker: No problem. The saddle bags were opened; no drugs.
Captain: I don’t understand it. The officer who stopped you said you told him you didn’t have a license, stole this motorcycle, had a gun in the tool bag, and that there were drugs in the saddle bags.
Biker: Yeah, I’ll bet he told you I was speeding, too

BIKERNET INSURANCE STAFF MEMO–Hey Cantina Members, Bandit’s got me working so hard I’ve put on 30 pounds over the past several years. And, it’s not all muscle either. I tell you this because a rider’s weight matters in motorcycling. Even my Custom Bagger, a bike built to handle many a good sized beer gut, feels my 230 pounds and six foot frame when I screech out of the driveway. Time to take action.
So immediately upon returning from the Bonneville Salt Flats three weeks ago, I decided to kick start my will-power and made the concrete decision to lose 30 pounds within the next 12 months. Am down seven (7) pounds already. Here’s how I am doing it.
1. Weight Watchers Points System (www.weightwatchers.com/men)
This organization has some of the best tools, resources and weight loss plans that I have seen. Plus, its worked for many of my friends so I am adopting their points system to help me stay focused.
Done: Should be good for at least 10 pounds off.
2. Daily Food Intake Cut By 100 to 150 Calories Per Day
Studies show that dropping 100 calories out of your daily food intake can make you lose 10 pounds in one year.
Done. 10 pounds coming off for sure.
3. Started A Regular Exercising Program
Studies here show that the following exercise programs work best.
30 minutes per day of cardio = improves overall health
60 minutes per day of cardio and lifting weights = will keep you from gaining weight
90 minutes per day of moderate exercise = will actually sustain weight loss long term
Done. Another 10 pounds flying off from exercise. Adopted the 60 minutes per day plan x 6 days per week. Using a “free” day to recuperate if need be and to address business and life issues that may be unavoidable.
4. Adopting A New Eating & Exercising Mindset
Yup! Believe it or not. I have promised my family that I have adopted a permanent lifestyle change. At 52 years of age, I am going for it. Getting rid of the beer gut, gonna find my muscular frame again and, should feel like a million bucks real soon. If I can do it. Anybody can do it.
Fine Print:
Notice I do not mention cutting back on my favorite beer(s). This is one of the advantages of the Weight Watchers Points System. You don’t have to give up foods and refreshments tat you love, just include them in your points calculations and stay within your points. Ummmhh. This means that some days will include no food at all as 10 Stone Pale Ales count for three points each which equals my maximum 30 points per day total. Oh well. Gotta take the good with the bad I guess. Check out Stone Breweries for some excellent brews. (www.stonebrew.com)

ON BUD’S FORUMS THE QUESTION CAME UP: what is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself…
Of course we all know the first rule when hiking in the wilderness is to use the “Buddy System”. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this it means you NEVER hike alone, you bring a friend or companion, even an in-law, that way if something happens there is
someone to go get help.
I remember one time hiking with my brother-in-law in northern Ontario . Out of nowhere came this huge brown bear and man was she MAD! We must have been near one of her cubs.
Any way if I had not had my little jetfire I’d sure not be here today. That’s right, one shot to my brother-in-law’s knee cap and I was able to escape by just walking at a brisk pace. That’s one of the best pistols in my safe!
Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up!

EFFORTS TO SAVE HURRICANE RACKED PRATTSVILLE, NORTHERN CATSKILLS, NY– On August 28th, 2011 Hurricane Irene destroyed the town of Prattsville, located in Greene County in the Northern Catskills of NY. A town with a population of approx. 500 residents, Prattsville also serves as the metropolis to all of the neighboring communities (Conesville, Gilboa, Lexington, Grand Gorge, Ashland, Windham, etc.).
The town of Prattsville has been called the Ground Zero of the Hurricane Irene Path. While I can’t provide you with specific numbers I can tell you that not a house or business was spared along Main Street. Some buildings were pushed off their foundations, some undermined, some had the raging river coming through the floor boards on the second floor, and some were washed away. Even as I write this letter my stomach is knotting
up and my heart is breaking thinking about the things I’ve seen and the stories I’ve heard.
Many people have lost everything they had. In addition to the roof over their head all of their personal treasures, mementos, photos, clothing, tools, and kids toys are GONE. Some destroyed some swept away. Business owners who have been passed down generations, struggled to become established, and stay out of the red have watched their blood and sweat get washed down river.
While some had flood insurance many did not and while FEMA and the CWC have made commitments to assist we all know they won’t cover the entire costs of the rebuilding efforts.
In the past four weeks both home and business owners have been removing mud, ripping up flooring and tearing down walls on the surviving homes and businesses to prepare for the rebuilding process. Believe it or not, people who lost everything can be seen volunteering to help their neighbors rebuild. It’s amazing and heartwarming and the definition of Community. They are an inspiration to all! Despite the losses, despite the destruction, and despite the buckets and buckets of mud the people of Prattsville are determined to rebuild their town and we want to help them.
And that’s why I’m writing to you. Nick’s Waterfall House is a bar/restaurant in the town of Conesville; we were spared by Irene and were lucky enough to only suffer from the inconveniences of road damage and lack of electricity. We want to help our neighbors in Prattsville, so on Saturday, October 8th we are sponsoring a benefit Party & all you can eat BBQ. We are looking for people and companies that would be interested in making a donation. All types of donations would be appreciated large and small:
· Cash/Check/MO Donations that will be donated directly to the town home and business owners to purchase building supplies and equipment
· Gift Certificates to GNH Lumber, Wal-Mart, Lowes, etc.
· Donations Items for a Chinese Auction. (i.e. gift certificates, products or services, baked or canned goods, crafts, etc.)
· I am also hoping to find people or companies that would be interested in matching the donations that we raise.
· If you are interested in helping us help them, send your donation directly to the address listed above or contact me via email at waterfal@telenet.net or call 607-434-2999.

LAS VEGAS BIKEFEST PLANNING GUIDE–I’ve already started a file with info about Las Vegas Bike Fest. I’ll drop in my hotel info, notes about judging, and specifically where the Bikini Contest is schedules. Don’t want to miss one second of my required duties with the scantily clad women. I’m already itching to cut a dusty trial across the Mojave to Nevada and glitter city.
But before we peel out, we have a new New Orleans Sporty tech from Anson Alexander to post, maybe another chapter of Zen by James Hodges, and I’m going to make a stab at another Mudflap Girl FXR report, before we cut a dusty trail.
Then we will bring you reports from the concrete and neon covered slice of desert. Hang on.
Ride Forever,
