REMINISCENT SUNDAY POST for APRIL 23, 2017

Hey,

I’m lost in the maze of life once more. Hell, I don’t know whether to bring it up. But we can’t give up. I don’t get why folks want to have mandatory this and that. Usually governments stumble and fail constantly.

We can’t give up, but I’m in a quandary about the growth of traffic. It’s nuts, so what can be done. There must be a way with freedom at our backs.

I worked on my son’s BDI bare pipe system today and adjust the belt on my Indian. It started to squeak on the dusty hot road back from the dry Heat Run or Arizona Bike Week. Let’s hit the news.

I need to hit the swap meet tomorrow to pick up some WR cylinders for the Bonne Belle and parts for Frank Jr’s Dyna. We’re getting close with components from Zipper’s, Aeromach, Spectro, Brass Balls bobbers, and BDI Exhaust, we will start putting it back together next week. Let’s hit the news

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY– We took some friends to a new restaurant, ‘Steve’s Place,’ and noticed that the waiter who took our order carried a spoon in his a shirt pocket. When the busboy brought our water and utensils, I observed that he also had a spoon in his shirt pocket. Then I looked around and saw that all the staff had spoons in their pockets.

When the waiter came back to our table I inquired, ‘Why the spoon?’

‘Well, the restaurant hired Andersen Consulting to revamp all of our processes. They concluded that the spoon was the most frequently dropped utensil. If our personnel are better prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to the kitchen.’

As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he replaced it with his spare.

‘I’ll get another spoon next time I go to the kitchen instead of making an extra trip to get it right now.’

I was impressed. I also noticed that there was a string hanging out of the waiter’s fly. Looking around, I saw that all of the waiters had the same string hanging from their flies. So, I asked the waiter, ‘Excuse me, but can you tell me why you have that string right there?’

He lowered his voice. ‘Not everyone is so observant. That consulting firm also learned that we can save time in the restroom. By tying this string to the tip of our you-know-what, we can pull it out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our hands.

‘I asked quietly, ‘After you get it out, how do you put it back?’

‘Well,’ he whispered, ‘I don’t know about the others, but I use the spoon’

DRIVER WHO “DIDN’T CARE” HE HIT MOTORCYCLIST GETS 15 YEARS–
Remember the Texas driver who was filmed deliberately swerving across centerline into a passing motorcyclist and then said “I don’t care” that he’d knocked the rider and his girlfriend to the ground?

The heartless car driver is 69-year-old William Crum and following a two-day trial at 355th District Court in Hood County, Texas, he’s been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury.

BRAND NEW BIKERNET READER COMMENT–

HELP A BROTHER BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for April 20, 2017

I appreciate seeing the comments about the Sturgis Hall Of Fame and the Freedom Fighter Section.

I believe the Hall of Fame is going to make changes and especially in the freedom Fighter Section.

With that being said I am going to suggest that Tony “Pan'” Sanfelipo be added to that section of the induction committee.

Tony was the first one inducted into this section and continues to be very active in motorcycle rights and knows who is really getting things done and who is in it for ulterior motives.

THE GEARHEAD BIKERNET NEWS REVIEW–

Hey, you really going to retire? Whom will print our old guy stories. Who will keep the old history of bikerdom alive, and how close to old school is the new school?

I get it though. The folks call this our golden years, but to me it ain’t changed except that whiskey is replaced with cornbread and ice tea. I think that was in a song by Hank somewhere.

Maybe a paid advisor or something, where you hold interest in the input of the site.

Good luck and God speed.

I’m probably going nowhere, fast. This is my life. I just need to keep the action fun and flowing.–Bandit

REMARKS BY PRESIDENT TRUMP–
at Signing of the Memorandum Regarding the Investigation Pursuant to Section 232(B) of the Trade Expansion Act

Oval Office

THE PRESIDENT:
Thank you very much. We appreciate everybody for being here. It’s a historic day for American steel and, most importantly, for American steelworkers. Thanks, especially, to Secretary Wilbur Ross for helping to lead this critical effort. We’ve been working on it since I came to office, and long before I came to office. We’re going to fight for American workers and American-made steel. And that’s beginning immediately.

For decades, America has lost our jobs and our factories to unfair foreign trade. And one steel mill after another has been shut down, abandoned, and closed, and we’re going to reverse that. Other countries have made a living taking advantage of the United States in so many ways, as you know, and I’ve been talking about that for a long time.

As I traveled the country, I saw the shuttered factories, of the shuttered dreams, and I pledged that I would take action. And I think it’s probably one of the primary reasons I’m sitting here today as President.

And since the day I entered office, I have followed through on that pledge, big league, beginning with our withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which would have been a catastrophe for our businesses and for our workers. I’m very proud of that withdrawal. Some people say, oh, gee, I wish you didn’t do that, but the smart people say, thank you, thank you, thank you. That would have been another NAFTA disaster. And NAFTA, believe me, was a disaster and continues to be a disaster for our country.

On Tuesday, I signed an order to enforce the Buy American laws and stop foreign countries from stealing contracts from American companies and, essentially, from American workers.

Today, I’m directing the Department of Commerce to immediately prioritize the investigation that began yesterday and really long before that — because Wilbur and I have been working on this for a long time — into foreign steel arriving into our markets, and to submit a report on the effects of these foreign steel products on the national security of the United States. It’s not just the pricing, it’s not just employment, it also has to do with the national security of our country, which people never talk about. I talked about it.

Maintaining the production of American steel is extremely important to our national security and our defense industrial base. Steel is critical to both our economy and our military. This is not an area where we can afford to become dependent on foreign countries. We have a product where we actually need foreign countries to be nice to us in order to fight for our people. And that’s not going to happen any longer, believe me — especially as it comes to steel.

This investigation will look at how steel imports are impacting the United States national security, taking into account foreign practices such as steel dumping. Dumping is a tremendous problem in this country. They’re dumping vast amounts of steel in our country, and they’re really hurting not only our country, but our companies. Their targeting of American industry and other foreign strategies designed to undermine American industry as a whole.

Based on the findings of this report, Secretary Wilbur Ross will make formal recommendations to the White House in a very, very, near future. He’ll be back very soon with those recommendations that we will implement.

From now on, we’re going to stand up for American jobs, workers, their security, and for American steel companies and companies generally. Today’s action is the next vital step toward making America strong and prosperous once again.

And I want to just add — I wasn’t going to do this — but I was in Wisconsin the other day, and I want to end and add by saying that Canada, what they’ve done to our dairy farm workers is a disgrace. It’s a disgrace. I spent time with some of the farmers in Wisconsin, and, as you know, rules, regulations, different things have changed. And our farmers in Wisconsin and New York State are being put out of business, our dairy farmers. And that also includes what’s happening along our northern border states with Canada, having to do with lumber and timber.

The fact is, NAFTA — whether it’s Mexico or Canada — is a disaster for our country. It’s a disaster. It’s a trading disaster. And we’ll be reporting back sometime over the next two weeks as to NAFTA and what we’re going to do about it. But what happened to our dairy farmers in Wisconsin and New York State — we’re not going to let it happen. We can’t let Canada or anybody else take advantage and do what they did to our workers and to our farmers. And again, I want to also just mention, included in there is lumber, timber, and energy. So we’re going to have to get to the negotiating table with Canada very, very quickly. Again, just to tell you, this is another NAFTA disaster, and we’re not going to let it continue onward.

ANOTHER New Bikernet Reader Comment!–

Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall Of Fame Class Of 2017

It is nice to see all the people that make money off the biker community being inducted, but where are the freedom fighters at? I thought we were suppose to honor those that fought for our rights and sacrificed personally and financially. Are there none of those folks worthy?

KEEPING THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY WIDE OPEN–
The Miracle of Toilet Paper

Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror complaining to my
husband that my breasts are too small.

Instead of characteristically telling me it’s not so, he
uncharacteristically comes up with a suggestion.

If you want your breasts to grow, then every day take a piece of toilet
paper and rub it between them for a few seconds.’

Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand in front
of the mirror, rubbing it between my breasts. ‘How long will this take I asked ?

They will grow larger over a period of years, my husband replies.

I stopped. ‘Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet paper between my
breasts every day will make my breasts larger over the years?’

Without missing a beat he says, ‘Worked for your ass, didn’t it?’

He’s still alive, and with a great deal of therapy, he may even walk again,
although he will probably continue to take his meals through a straw.

HELP A BROTHER BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for April 20, 2017

Thanks for putting the comments about the lack of a Freedom Fighter in the Sturgis Hall of Fame in this weeks article.

All of the Heartland STEAM organizations (ABATEs of SD, ND, NE, MN, IA, WI, and IL) have unanimously decided to voice our disappointment about it in a letter signed by all the executive directors. We also decided to boycott any functions put on by the museum, including the induction breakfast during the rally.

Retire….what does that mean? I don’t think anyone could ever fill your shoes or even know what to do with Bikernet at this point. You are the trailblazer in this industry.

While there are younger guys out there with more familiarity with the internet and social media, you have your finger on the pulse of the industry and you are still kicking ass!

The only thing the rocking chair ever brought is death, so keep banging the keys, riding your scoot, and loving your ladies.

If I was you, I’d try to take a few more week-long trips a year with your bike and your girl. Strap a sleeping bag on the back and spend a few nights under the stars.

Bikernet is what it is, and no one can ever claim to be the 1st except for you! Keep on keeping on Sensei!

Getting VETERANS The Care They Deserve–
Veterans have poured their sweat, blood, and tears for this country and it’s time that they were recognized. It’s time that we finally take care of them properly.

That’s why President Trump signed the Veterans Choice Program Improvement Act into law. This bill will extend and improve the Veterans Choice Program so that more veterans can see the doctor of their choice and don’t have to wait and travel long distances for VA care.

Buy American, Hire American

Rules associated with America’s trade deals and immigration policies unfairly place American companies and workers at a disadvantage. President Trump is taking action to enforce laws promoting American industry. On Wednesday, President Trump signed an executive order promoting American industry and protecting it from unfair competition. This Executive Order targets the abusive use of waivers and exceptions that undermine “Buy American” laws meant to promote taxpayer money going to American companies.

STURGIS MUSEUM NEWS–
As for the Sturgis Museum, the person who contacted you, Jiggs Cressy, ABATE of South Dakota Director, attempted to run for the board of directors of the museum, but did not get on. He wrote a letter to the museum complaining about the freedom fighter problem, but received no answer to the best of my knowledge

At the MRF STEAM conference in Sioux City, Iowa on April 8, it was decided that all ABATE directors were going to sign a joint letter to the museum expressing dissatisfaction at the decision not to place a freedom fighter this year.

Besides that, someone from Wisconsin said he talked to the museum director, complaining about the board’s decision about the freedom fighter nomination, and he was told the museum couldn’t afford to hand out that award any longer. He expressed that it costs around $1,500 for every inductee. The plaque doesn’t cost all that much, but the production of the video on each inductee is costly to the tune of $1,500 each.

The people I have been in contact with don’t really believe that because it would mean they’re spending around $9,000 to $10,000 for that video. That is hard to believe. My information is the right’s community was told if they want a person inducted into the freedom fighter spot, it should pay for it ($1,500). That amounts to “Pay to Play”

There have been rumors of that being the case for many years and looking at some of those inducted over others we know were more qualified and nominated at the same time were not it appears it could be true or at least it looks that way too many monitoring what is going on

Most people do not believe the various industry or race inductees didn’t pay or their respective organizations didn’t pay either. I cannot say for sure this was the exact content of the conversation, because I’m only hearing my contacts, which may be true or maybe enhanced a little by conjecture.

My personal opinion was if there was not a credible nominee it would be better to not have an inductee who did not deserve the nomination. Many others feel not inducting a freedom fighter is wrong. If not for some of the past freedom fighters, who knows what state the motorcycle industry or even the motorcycle community and culture would be in today.

Chubby, Executive Director of ABATE of Wisconsin, has indicated that some in the rights community are considering starting their own Hall of Fame just for freedom fighters.

Whatever avenue is pursued, either in Sturgis or the rights community moving forward, a stricter curriculum should be adhered to in the selection process.

I have a different definition of freedom fighter than many in the community. I think you’ll agree that many in the rights movement are activists, and that’s good. We need activism. But activism falls a little short of freedom fighting.

Doing battle on the streets and in the courts like was done in the past, and what Mark Temple and a bunch in California have been doing is a lot different than sitting in a legislator’s office “asking” for relief.

I hope this information helps you and if or better yet when I hear more on the subject I will let you know.

Hell, Bikernet would sponsor that award.–Bandit

WEEKEND PRODUCT–
Silencer Megabond Sound & Thermal Insulating Foam

Engineers at HushMat have developed a unique, easily applied foam which significantly enhances your ability to reduce both sound and heat transmission to the interior of your vehicle. Silencer Megabond is a “semi-closed” cell foam that absorbs less than .05% moisture.

The specially formulated foam replaces old school Jute with a state of the art material that effectively absorbs unwanted noise and increases in temperature from outside sources. Available in 1/8”, ¼” and ½”, Silencer Megabond is easily trimmed to shaped for precise fitment.

The 1/8” is most commonly used as a gasketing foam and the ¼” is perfect for applying to the back side of removable door panels, trim and headliner. ½” multiplies the benefits when applied directly over HushMat Ultra sound deadening, thermal insulation material.

When applied under the carpet in this manner, the layered effect provides an additional barrier against heat and sounds from the engine and exhaust keeping the vehicle interior cool and quiet. Additionally HushMat is claimed to be the easiest to install sound deadening, thermal insulation material.

WHAT THE HELL—
The guys at Kraft Tech got me hooked on another bike project. They cut me a deal on a frame and I went nuts. Brad called and said he had a Panhead engine.

I’ve been digging for parts and going nuts at the swapmeet. Hell, I met a guy who rebuilds old glides. This scooter could be running in another month.

I should sell a bike first before I jump into another one. How about this one. Make me an offer.

Hang on for the next report.
