Hey,
This is sort of a mild day during a turbulent streak. There’s so much going on, but I sorta said I will take myself out of gear today and just mellow out.
I tried to start the Panhead yesterday, but as I suspected I need to take the Linkert off again and see where I fucked up. I’m going to dig through my gasket stash and replace a few.
I think I’m going to work out, meditate and work on my sculpture project. I may bring you an update next week.
Don’t know much about the holiday or what I’m going to do. We can see fireworks for 360 degrees in Long Beach, San Pedro, Harbor City, Torrance and Carson. They fire away almost all night. I like to keep my eyes on the Headquarters from an errant rocket that could burn the fort down.
Let’s hit the news and avoid the crowds.

THAT’S NOT ALL BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for June 28, 2018
http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=13685
I have said a lot about coming back too the world in ‘67 and wondering if I should have, going too the wall, looking at the monuments to other wars, my grandfather volunteered WWI, my dad and uncles were in WWII, Korea and my brothers and cousins in Vietnam.
Now it seems too me we have let politicians from the beginning give it away for personal gain. It’s our fault we keep voting them back into office. We finally have a President who is trying too fix it, while fighting both parties.
We would not be in this messy thing anyway if the politicians had not sold the farm long ago. Enough on my soap box. Have a great day Bandit and my sympathies for still being in Comifornia.

Who is Foxconn building stuff in the Harley-Davidson State–Foxconn is a Taiwanese company with plans to invest up to $10 billion in the state and create 13,000 jobs. Just like American companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Google, IBM, Accenture have spent billions setting up large offices in China or India or Phillipines or Malaysia – creating thousands of jobs there.
Foxconn manufactures electronic products for major American, Canadian, Chinese, Finnish and Japanese companies. Notable products manufactured by Foxconn include the BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Kindle, Nintendo 3DS, Nokia devices, Xiaomi devices, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and Xbox One.
Foxconn has been involved in several controversies. In 2010, following a series of employee suicides at its factory in Shenzhen, Foxconn was criticized by labour activists, who accused the company of providing low wages and allowing employees to work past legal overtime limits.
Foxconn only has its largest factories for manufacturing in third-world nations – almost exclusively manufacturing in third-world nations. Its European factories are in nations such as Hungary, Slovakia, Turkey and the Czech Republic who disagree with laws and decisions of European Union on pretty much everything. Not a third-world but then life in some States of USA are not much better than life in Slovakia, Czech and Turkey.
Japan is a nation having Foxconn factory focused on Japanese way of using automation rather than the slave labor employed by Foxconn in China or their labor practices in Brazil, Mexico and Malaysia factories.
President Donald Trump announced on July 26, 2017 that Foxconn will build a US$10 billion flat screen TV manufacturing plant in southeastern Wisconsin.
The deal is being criticized for the $3 billion in tax-payer funded incentives given to Foxconn. The state of Wisconsin has to pay a subsidy to Foxconn of up to $250 million each year for fifteen years. In return, the deal would return an estimated $181 million each year.
This loss, according to economics professor Michael Hicks, amounts to a payment of $1,200 from each household in Wisconsin to Foxconn. An analysis by the Wisconsin State Legislature’s nonpartisan budget office determined that state taxpayers would recoup their investment in year 2043. Profits would be in much more distant future for Wisconsin beyond year 2043.
Foxconn will also be exempt from an environmental impact statement, and be able to avoid several environmental protection rules that other American companies in USA have to comply with.
WELCOME TO AMERICA FOXCONN.

WORDS FROM THE BASE OF THE MOUNTAIN–A Great Lesson on Stress
A young lady confidently walked around the room with a raised glass of water while leading a seminar and explaining stress management to her audience. Everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, ‘Half empty or half full?’
She fooled them all. “How heavy is this glass of water?” she inquired with a smile. Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. To 20 oz.
She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance. In each case it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.”
She continued, “and that’s the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won’t be able to carry on.”
“As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we’re refreshed, we can carry on with the burden – holding stress longer and better each time practiced.
So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Pick them up again tomorrow if you must.

ANTIQUE DEAL OF THE WEEKEND–Harley-Davidson Panhead 1950
$35,000
A premier builder of over 200 motorcycles, Mil Blair actualized his dream of building “TEX” in 1994.
This bike is a renowned replica of the timeless April 7, 1951 Saturday Evening Post cover bike “TEX”, possessing a 98% likeness to the cover/painting by Steven Dohanos.
“The bike had been in the back of my mind since the day I saw the painting” said Mil, recalling seeing the cover for the first time when he was just 11 years old. The replica is so intricate and detailed, Tex Keeler, who built the original bike, says he can’t tell the two bikes apart!
While the likeness is undeniably striking, you’ll find a few inconsistencies from the bike featured in the painting, primarily because it was Mil’s dream to own and ride the bike, which involved making necessary adjustments in order to make it suitable for daily riding.
Built with a real Harley-Davidson Panhead engine, transmission, among many other original parts, this bike is a real museum quality motorcycle – so much so in fact the bike is not currently running as the oil, gas and battery had been removed for its period on display at Eiteljorg Museum for “Steel Ponies” Exhibit in Indianapolis, a testament to the bike’s significance.
Furthermore, this celebrated replica was featured in “Earlyriders” Magazine Issue Number 1 in 1994 (a copy of which will be accompanied with the bike), was seen on “American Pickers” Season 2 Episode 24 “California Dreaming” on The History Channel, was named “Best Panhead” at Bartells Harley-Davidson show and won the Otis Chandlers Vintage Museum honor of “Best American Motorcycle” at Ventura Motorcycle Show (winning trophy will accompany the bike).
While Mil has spent several decades enjoying this special bike he built, he feels it is time to let someone else have as much fun as he has had with it.
Key Details:
74 cubic inches #50fl5172
4 Speed Hand Shift “Tank Shift”
Linkert Carburetor
Low mileage on motor
Letters “TEX” on saddle bags are solid sliver
License plate: Special California #8898
12 Volt System
BDL belt drive primary
*While the bike is built primarily with Harley-Davidson original parts, aftermarket parts were used

NMA ALERT–Down the Rabbit Hole with Civil Asset Forfeiture
As one of the NMA’s current national issues, Civil Asset Forfeiture or CAF is a program that allows the government at all levels to confiscate cash, cars and even homes from people who are suspected of criminal activity. Even if you are ruled innocent, your property is not necessarily returned; a trip to civil court (and associated expenses) may be needed to get it back.
The NMA and Washington lobbyist, Rob Talley, are working hard to reform CAF so that:
1) property cannot be seized by a government agency without a conviction and without underlying ties to the crime, and
2) the CAF process is much more transparent to the public.
Here are four developments from recent months that signal a backlash against CAF, bolstering our efforts on Capitol Hill:
Timbs v. Indiana
The US Supreme Court announced in June that for the first time in 20 years, they would review the constitutionality of CAF laws. The case focuses on Tyson Timbs who was forced to forfeit his $40,000 Land Rover to the state of Indiana after he pled guilty to selling less than $200 worth of drugs. Addicted to opioids, Timbs tried to sell four grams of heroin to undercover officers in 2013. He agreed to serve one year of house arrest and pay $1,200 in court fees. The state also wanted his Land Rover, which Timbs had purchased from his father’s life insurance proceeds. Timbs argued that surrendering his truck to the state would violate his protection against excessive fines per the Eighth Amendment.
Institute for Justice Attorney Wesley Hottot said that this case is about more than just a truck. “The Excessive Fines Clause is a critical check on the government’s power to punish people and take their property. Without it, state and local law enforcement could confiscate everything a person owns based on a minor crime or—using civil forfeiture—no crime at all.”
Hawaii
A recent report states that Hawaii’s attorney general has mismanaged the state’s asset forfeiture program. According to the audit, the AG’s administration of the program:
· Failed to fully account for property obtained through CAF
· Mismanaged program funds
· Failed to allocate some $2 million for drug prevention as required by law
· Failed to provide guidance to law enforcement, county prosecutors and the public.
State law allows police to confiscate property that is
a) Illegal to own,
b) Used in the commission of certain crimes, or
c) Derived from alleged crimes.
All that Hawaii prosecutors need to currently show in order to invoke CAF is probable cause. The AG’s office presides over such cases in civil court which are separate from criminal proceedings.
The audit found from 2006 to 2015, 85 percent of property owners did not try to get their property back even though they had the right to contest the confiscation in civil court. Legal costs were certainly a barrier for many. A quarter of the cases in 2015, property was forfeited even though the owner was never charged nor convicted of a crime. In four percent of the cases, property was forfeited even though charges were dropped.
The audit also criticized the AG’s office for not doing a better job in giving the public guidance on how to petition the AG to have property returned in a process known as filing a petition for remission or mitigation.
The Institute for Justice, a civil rights law firm with an emphasis on CAF, gave Hawaii a grade of D+ for its program overall and an F for accounting practices on how seized cash and property were later spent by law enforcement agencies.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals in June ruled that the state could not keep $119,820 that Oklahoma City police had taken from Quoclong Da Ngo in January 2012. Ngo had been pulled over for not using his turn signal long enough while changing lanes on Interstate 40 and traveling 10 miles below the speed limit of 70 mph. Ngo was driving a rental car from Florida. After he granted permission voluntarily, police searched the car and found three bundles of cash in vacuum-sealed packages but found no drugs or any other signs of criminal activity.
A year later, prosecutors dropped the criminal case against Ngo. Prosecutors fought to keep the money claiming that vacuum-sealed bags of cash are indicative of drug distribution.
The civil appeals court ruled that the city was not legally able to keep the cash because the “state presented no evidence to support the nexus between the defendant’s cash and a violation of UCDSA or the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Act.”
New York City
In May, the nonprofit advocacy group Bronx Defenders won their case against the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The NYPD agreed in a settlement to share data on the millions of dollars seized through CAF.
Since 2014, the Bronx Defenders has been fighting for the right to make the CAF program more transparent for their low-income clients. Two of those years were spent in litigation under the state’s Freedom of Information law. Legal Director Adam Shoop said, “Our lawsuit grew out of the lack of basic information around millions of dollars of property the NYPD seizes during arrests, like how much is received, how much is kept as revenue, and how much is returned.” He added that the settlement will now bring transparency to the program.
The Defenders will receive approximately 160,000 records and after reviewing will decide on their next steps. In 2016, NYPD reported that they kept $7.1 million in revenue from seizures. The department did not report a figure for 2017.

We drove to casco Viejo old town. Kinda like New Orleans and Tijuana and Cuba mixed. Rebuilding mucho. Real estate prices going skyward. Driving is the closest thing to a demolition derby no contact sport.
So far people friendly. Little English spoken but enough to get by. Traffic very bad during rush hour say 4-7. Otherwise not bad. Cleaner than Thailand in general.

HOT NEWS FROM THE CLIMATE DEPOT–Papers Support A Skeptical Position On Climate Alarmism
What Scientific ‘Consensus’? 254 New 2018 Papers Support A Skeptical Position On Climate Alarmism
–By Kenneth Richard on 28. June 2018
In just the first 6 months of 2018, 254 scientific papers have been published that cast doubt on the position that anthropogenic CO2 emissions function as the climate’s fundamental control knob…or that otherwise serve to question the efficacy of climate models or the related “consensus” positions commonly endorsed by policymakers and mainstream media sources.
These 254 new papers affirm the position that there are significant limitations and uncertainties inherent in our understanding of climate and climate changes, emphasizing that climate science is not settled.
More specifically, the papers in this compilation support these four main skeptical positions — categorized here as N(1) – N(4) — which question climate alarm.
N(1) Natural mechanisms play well more than a negligible role (as claimed by the IPCC) in the net changes in the climate system, which includes temperature variations, precipitation patterns, weather events, etc., and the influence of increased CO2 concentrations on climatic changes are less pronounced than currently imagined.
N(2) The warming/sea levels/glacier and sea ice retreat/hurricane and drought intensities…experienced during the modern era are neither unprecedented or remarkable, nor do they fall outside the range of natural variability.
N(3) The computer climate models are neither reliable or consistently accurate, and projections of future climate states are little more than speculation as the uncertainty and error ranges are enormous in a non-linear climate system.
N(4) Current emissions-mitigation policies, especially related to the advocacy for renewables, are often ineffective and even harmful to the environment, whereas elevated CO2 and a warmer climate provide unheralded benefits to the biosphere (i.e., a greener planet and enhanced crop yields).
To reiterate, the 254 papers compiled in 2018 thus far support the N(1)-N(4) positions, and they undermine or at least do not support the “consensus” positions.

LAST NIGHT—I heard a couple arguing. I texted the guy:
They stopped, amazing. Damn, it’s a poem…
I’m watching another Lecture series under Great Courses on Amazon. It’s about The Science of Natural Healing and the lecturer, Mimi Guarnino is a cardiac surgeon. She’s amazing and basically she discovered that with proper diet, exercise, meditation, and spiritual activity, you can fix anything. After being a stint surgeon for 20 years she taught herself a whole new amazing approach. It will blow your mind.
Now get this. Wisconsin hit me for income taxes from 2011 up. We tried to negotiate and figure out what was happening. I paid my bookkeeper to help, then my accountant. They said I had a nexus in Wisconsin?
We couldn’t get a reasonable answer from Wisconsin so I reached out to an Attorney in Wisconsin. He hooked me up with his accountant, who hooked me up with a consultant. I paid Jack to meet with the Wisconsin Tax Department. He came back with bad news (his fee almost $500). We had to file, but he told me that one year I seemed to owe nothing and other years I may owe as little as $50 per year.
The Wisconsin accounting firm told me they could handle it for $400 a year. I went back to my California accountant. He consulted with his associate and they reached out to Wisconsin. They prepared the 2017 tax forms and discovered I owed $25. They are now negotiating with the Wisconsin tax board to streamline the rest of the years. I’ll keep you posted. Nuts!
And folks wonder why we are outlaws…
