Hey,
I’m not sure what to make of today. Victory invited Bikernet to a new model launch, but they won’t allow us to reveal the contents until the 30th of this month. We can’t even mention the name. It’s burning a hole in our collective pockets, but we will respect their wishes. Hang on.
I feel a tad under the gun right now. We have more content flying at us than we have the time to publish it. I’m about to launch another Cantina Episode with the help of Bruce Snyder, then Jerry Southworth sent in a hot Girl of Bikernet with a Kirk Taylor scooter, and Scooter Tramp Scotty shipped us a stellar tech article/H-D history piece. He fully covers an issue I’ve been asking about for a few years. Helluva story. I’ll give you a teaser, “Evos Rule.”
Next week I need to make my Cycle Source deadline, which I will launch immediately on Bikernet. It’s the next episode in our Sweeps bike build project, gas tank mods from Gary and Julie at Kustoms Inc. I’m also working on a Smoke Out based story about the new Victory Judge with Rollin Karoll of Spectro Oils, another Bonne Belle Bonneville Racer update, the Marlboro Man story from Loess H-D. They now have the original bike, maybe. We have a Le Pera seat tech with my son’s Mudflap girl bike, events coverage from Josh, and fiction from Uncle Monkey. What the hell?
There isn’t enough hours in the day to keep up with the entertaining content flying our way, and build the Bonne Belle. Quick, bring me some whiskey. Plus, I need to find a cool 5-Ball Racing trailer for Bonneville. Oh, and if only one of these Redheads would kidnap me, and whisk me to Hawaii, so we could get lost in some hotel room, forever.
Let’s hit the news:

ABATE of Wisconsin issues a “National Call to Action” to unite motorcycle groups for the impending battle against federal regulations–
On June 23rd in front of an enthusiastic group of motorcyclists from across the country, ABATE of Wisconsin Executive Director Ric Mellon issued a “National Call to Action” for motorcyclists to unite for the impending battle against freedom-busting federal regulations. “You’re going to start hearing about the Center for Disease Control who has picked up the traditional Department of Transportation duties as well as the insurance and medical communities,” he declared. “They are going to start pushing for mandatory helmets, road-side checkpoints and conspicuity clothing along with surveillance technology to protect us.
http://www.bikernet.com/pages/LEGISLATIVE_FACT_OR_FICTION.aspx
If that doesn’t work, they will go after the very thing we love – Our motorcycles!” ABATE of Wisconsin’s “Call to Action” is already achieving results as they have received organizational support from the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, the St. Croix Valley Riders and several Motorcycle Clubs. More information will become available as the coalition continues to build and pick up steam.
For years, motorcycle rights organizations have fended off attacks from the government agencies in charge of our roadways. Agencies such as the Department of Transportation, the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration and other bureaucracies have tried to implement helmet laws, motorcycle only road-side checkpoints and other such measures to restrict motorcyclists’ freedoms. They have been largely ineffective up to now because of the strong lobbying power of motorcycle rights organizations such as ABATE of Wisconsin. Any motorcycle group ready to join the coalition and preserve its freedom to ride should contact ABATE of Wisconsin immediately.
ABATE of Wisconsin, Inc. which was founded in 1974 is a motorcycle rights and safety organization dedicated to “Freedom of the Road.” ABATE of Wisconsin’s goal is to give the motorcyclists of Wisconsin a strong, united voice with regard to their future, their way of life, their safety, and their legal rights as motorcyclists and citizens.

TT CALENDAR GIRL AT THE ACE CAFÉ– Rachael Clegg, the creative artist and subject of the unique 2013 Isle of Man “Milestones” calendar, gives a nod to her heritage, both her father and grandfather were TT racers. All of the props used in the photographs are genuine, lent to her by TT riders Guy Martin, John McGuiness (in whose leathers she was almost arrested!), and Ian Lougher, her father, a farmer and eccentric Manxman, who lent her the Goose.
Even the Jerrycan in the Brandywell image has a history – it belongs to veteran TT racer Vin Duckett. This very special and thoroughly researched calendar, with its twelve unusual tales from the race’s 105 year history, using each one as an inspiration for the different images captured on each page – the end result being 15 leaves of milestone madness! – is available at the cafe and on the cafe’s web shop.
Copies of the calendar are up for grabs as prizes, with Rachael signing copies: At the cafe on Bike Night, Friday 27th July. Spend £5 or more over the counter from 6pm and receive a raffle ticket. Draw will take place at 10pm As part of the prize pack for Show Up n’ Shine winner, Sunday 29th July, at the cafe’s 3rd annual Streetfighter & Stunt Festival, Brent Cross – Rachael being a judge! As part of the cafe’s 19th annual Ace Cafe Reunion winners prize packs, with Rachael being a judge on both Saturday 8th September, at the cafe, for “Best Ridden Cafe Racer”, and Sunday 9th September, at Brighton, for “Best Streetfighter”. www.rachaelclegg.com

BIKERNET SUMMER SCHOOL NOW OPEN, VOCABULARY LESSON–
tractate TRAK-teyt, noun:
A treatise; essay.
Divide up all the tractates and commit yourselves to learn them during the coming year.
–Yair Weinstock, Holiday Tales for the Soul
Jean-Pierre Mahé has rightly insisted that we should explore possible explanations other than mere haphazard collection, not only for the presence of the Hermetic tractates within Codex VI…
–Michael Allen Williams, Rethinking “Gnosticism”
Scooter Tramp Scotty put a lot of thought and experience into his tractate on “Harley’s Sweet Times.”
–Renegade, Bikernet.com
Tractate comes from the Medieval Latin word tractatus meaning “a handling, treatment.”

NEW BOOKS FROM MOTORBOOKS–The Harley in the Barn: More Great Tales of Motorcycle Archaeology by Tom Cotter ($26.00 US, On-Sale September)
Driving down a country road, a flash of chrome catches your eye as you pass an old farmstead. Next time you roll by, you slow down and focus on a shed behind the house. Could that be? Good lord, it is! Hard on the brakes, quick reverse, and pull in the drive. Yep, it’s a vintage Triumph Bonneville peering forlornly from beneath a tattered cover. You’ve just begun the journey that fuels the dreams of every motorcycle collector: the long-forgotten machine, re-discovered.The Harley in the Barn offers 40-plus tales of lost Nortons, hidden Hondas, dormant Indians, and busted BSAs, all squirreled away from prying eyes but found by lucky collectors just like you. Author Tom Cotter is not only a barn-find master, he’s also master of discovering the collectors with the best stories and the most outlandish finds. If you can’t pass a padlocked garage without wondering if there’s a great old bike stashed inside, this is your book. Hell, this is your life.
How to Rebuild and Restore Classic Harley-Davidson Big Twins 1936-1964 by Rick Schunk ($39.99 US, On-Sale September)
When it comes to collector motorcycles, none hold the allure of the classic Harley-Davidson Big Twins built from 1936 to 1964. But owning and maintaining these tempermental machines provides endless challenges. Even the most pristine, restored example needs a tremendous amount of care, maintenance, and repair, and most examples are far from pristine restorations, requiring periodic rebuilding and even restoration. The rebuilding and restoring of these machines is not so much a defined task as a never-ending process. This book will serve to guide owners through that process.
Beginning with a practical section on understanding, choosing, and purchasing a classic Harley, this book focuses on the nuts and bolts of classic Harley ownership, from chassis to bodywork, from wheel to wheel. Through step-by-step photography and thoughtful, informative instruction, the reader will learn how to disassemble a chassis, repair a fork, lace a wire wheel, and paint the major parts for any restoration. It will provide thorough instruction on repairing, overhauling, and restoring all major components, such as the engine, transmission, and electrical system.
With thorough text and detailed photography, this book provides start-to-finish instruction for each operation necessary for the repair and restoration of a classic Harley-Davidson Big Twin.

SPEAKER CASE FOR THE MEDIC–
My son has a high school buddy who is in the Army. Cody joined the Army after high school graduation in 2010. He has served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait in the past two years
He is a medic and has seen things I don’t want to think about.
Cody was in town to visit his family last week. He stopped by to say hello to “Mr. Anson” (me) For that I was grateful.
Then he proceeded to blow the roof off my house showing me the guitar licks
he has picked up while in the Army. On his down time he has been seriously working on his guitar playing. He was a good guitar player before the Army, he is really good now.
I restore vintage music equipment and thought it would be cool to build Cody a guitar speaker cabinet. I was inspired by the article in the HORSE magazine about Billy Lane’s Rolling Thunder build. I read the article, thought about Cody and the speaker cab project rolled out from there. Cody is now stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. I trust this little cabinet will help this young Louisiana man play the blues Texas style!

VINTAGE OUTLAW BOOK AVAILABLE AGAIN–

A QUICK ONE—I’m actually going to attempt to post a couple of stories today, so I don’t hit Monday buried under the gun. I need to take my Bonne Belle rear tire back to Settle’s Cycle to have the tire turned around, then to the hose fitting shop around the corner to pick up just the right brass fittings for the Bonne Bell oil tank and maybe some oil line.
I road tested my Mudflap Girl FXR yesterday, with Buster, on the Shrunken FXR following. We ran a LA freeway course up the 110, to the 405, then snagged the 710, Long Beach Freeway back toward the harbor. I tested the new Progressive Suspension rear Dyna Shocks, and a modified single RocksShox for the Spitfire Girder front end. They both seem to be working well, but my travel is limited. I’m going to investigate another girder shock, maybe 6-7 inches long to improve the travel. We have a lot of flexibility with this fork design. I believe we will be able to dial in any level of travel we desire. Hang on for more reports.
Need to wrap up the Sunday Post, so I can peel over to see my dear old ma, who is 89 years young, and still spry. She’s inspiring and trying to do something every day. She still takes art classes, goddammit.
Ride Forever,
