RIP’S BAD RIDE SUNDAY POST FOR JULY 1, 2012

Hey,

Just returning from the Smoke Out in Rockingham, North Carolina, Mike Lichter flew into town for Born Free, and we couldn’t miss the 100th Anniversary of Motorcyclists Magazine—amazing party in sprawling, vintage motorcycle laden facilities. They have photo studios to die for.

Then it was off to Born Free at Irvine Lake, where Rip’s Bad ride usually takes place. The Bad Ride rocks the Great Part today in Orange, and we will be there. I’m helping Willie G. judge the bike show. Let’s hit the news. I need to hit the shower and the road.

WILLIE G. DAVIDSON COMES TO BAD RIDE XV TODAY 10am-3pm– Willie G Davidson, Grandson of one of the company’s founders, William A. Davidson, and son of William H. Davidson, its second president, Willie G. joined the company as its first head of styling in 1963. With responsibility for the look of all Harley-Davidson motorcycles, landmark motorcycles to emerge from Willie G’s styling studio team include the Super Glide, which established the factory custom category in 1971, Low Rider, Heritage Softail Classic, Fat Boy, V-Rod and Street Glide. He is one of 13 Harley-Davidson executives who purchased the company from AMF, Inc. in 1981. — After nearly 50 years as head of styling, Willie G. Davidson retired from Harley-Davidson in May of this year but still continues to be an Ambassador for the company attending rallies and events nationwide.

Willie G. Davidson will be in attendance today at the BAD RIDE – Bikers Against Diabetes presented by the American Diabetes Association. Willie G Davidson has attended numerous BAD Rides as Diabetes runs in the Davidson family. His daughter Karen Davidson is also a big support of the ADA and she will also be in attendance today.

THE SENIOR BAD JOKE MOMENT–  Two guys, one old, one young, are pushing their carts around Wal-Mart when they collide..

The old guy says to the young guy, “Sorry about that. I’m looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.”

The young guy says, “That’s OK, it’s a coincidence.  I’m looking for my wife, too…
I can’t find her and I’m getting a little desperate.”

The old guy says, “Well, maybe I can help you find her, what does she look like?”

The young guy says, “Well, she is 27 yrs. old, tall, with red hair, blue eyes, is buxom…wearing no bra, long legs, and is wearing short shorts.

What does your wife look like?’

To which the old guy says, “Doesn’t matter, — let’s look for yours.”

California: HSUS and Other Radical Groups Defeated But Gearing Up for a Second Round–
Contact members of the state Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife Today!
Yesterday, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and other radical anti-hunting groups suffered defeat when Senate Bill 1221 failed to pass in the state Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife.

Unfortunately, this bill was authorized for reconsideration by this same committee as early as next Tuesday, July 3. Members of the state Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife need to hear from every sportsmen and gun owner in California urging them to OPPOSE SB 1221. Let committee members know that California cannot afford to let the political agenda of animal rights extremists decide hunting regulations in the state. Hunting in ALL forms is an important tool needed to generate revenue for state conservation projects and to manage wildlife. It is also a long-standing American heritage that must be preserved. Contact information for committee members can be found here.

SB 1221, introduced by state Senator Ted Lieu (D-28), would ban hunting bears and bobcats with dogs. Hunting with dogs is a tradition that continues to be practiced across the country. Many dog breeds with select characteristics for hunting can be traced back for thousands of years. Seventeen states allow bear hunting with dogs. The use of hounds for hunting has never been shown to have an adverse impact on wildlife numbers. Biologists and other wildlife experts determine regulations and bag limits, just as they do with other hunting seasons.

SB 1221 is a bill sponsored by HSUS – a group that supports banning all hunting with or without dogs. Its President, Wayne Pacelle, has been quoted as saying: “We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States … We will take it species by species until all hunting is stopped in California. Then we will take it state by state.” In 2003, HSUS unsuccessfully championed California Assembly Bill 342 that would have banned all hunting with hounds. It now seems to be taking a deceptive and incremental approach to accomplish the same goal with SB 1221.

We cannot let an organization whose sole purpose is to destroy America’s hunting heritage succeed.
Please forward this alert to your family, friends and fellow sportsmen across California asking them to also CALL and E-MAIL members of the state Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife and urge them to OPPPOSE SB 1221. HSUS is attempting to ban this particular form of hunting today but it will be back for many other forms of hunting in the future.

This alert is posted to California: HSUS and Other Radical Groups Defeated But Gearing Up for a Second Round.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON EXTENDS NHRA OFFICIAL STATUS–
NAMING RIGHTS OF SPORTSMAN MOTORCYCLE SERIES THROUGH 2016

With the Harley-Davidson Museum® in downtown Milwaukee as a backdrop, hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts in the audience, and the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team in attendance, Harley-Davidson and NHRA officials announced today that the Harley-Davidson Motor Company has extended both its official program with NHRA and its title sponsorship of the NHRA Harley-Davidson Sportsman Motorcycle Series through the 2016 season.

“This relationship began in 2006 and this extension represents the strength of the partnership between two iconic American brands: NHRA and Harley-Davidson,” said Tom Compton, president, NHRA. “We are excited to extend this sponsorship through the 2016 season and appreciate everything the Harley-Davidson Motor Company has done and will continue to do to build and grow NHRA.”

The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team first entered NHRA competition aboard Harley-Davidson V-Rod in 2004, and has since claimed five NHRA Full Throttle world championships, including three consecutive with rider Andrew Hines (2004-‘06) and two titles with Eddie Krawiec (2008, 2011).

“This relationship between Harley-Davidson and the NHRA has been rewarding at all levels,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Kris Schoonover, “from the team’s success on the track to our interaction with the many Harley-Davidson riders and fans who attend every NHRA event, Harley-Davidson and drag racing really work well together, and the company is pleased to extend this partnership.”

This extension continues the all-encompassing involvement of Harley-Davidson with NHRA at a number of levels, including the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series and NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. As the official motorcycle of NHRA, Harley-Davidson has an extensive presence on-site at NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series events as well as in the ESPN2/ESPN2HD broadcasts.

One of the more popular elements on-site at each event in NHRA’s Nitro Alley is the Harley-Davidson display, which provides fans with the opportunity to see the latest Harley-Davidson motorcycles and enjoy many interactive elements.

The company also will continue its motorcycle giveaway promotion in conjunction with NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series events and maintain entitlement of the NHRA Harley-Davidson Sportsman Motorcycle Series.
The NHRA Harley-Davidson Sportsman Motorcycle Series is contested in four of NHRA’s seven divisions within the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. The sponsorship provides Harley-Davidson with the opportunity to extend its brand across the country through NHRA’s sportsman racing community.

AUSTRALIAN Chopperworks custom motorcycle shop owner on the run from bikies as liquidation leaves them out of pocket up to $2m–A MOTORCYCLE shop owner is on the run after his business collapse allegedly left customers, including prominent bikie club presidents, as much as $2 million out of pocket.

Chopperworks owner Jeffrey Brian Richardson, 42, and his family have fled their Chermside West home after claiming a man visited a relative on Monday night threatening them with the arrival of an interstate hitman.

Customers left in the lurch include senior figures from the Hells Angels, Rebels and Bandidos outlaw motorcycle clubs.

Among them is Gold Coast Bandidos president Sava Cvetkovic, who is said to have been a calming influence on a number of bikies furious at being ripped off.

The Courier-Mail understands Chopperworks allegedly sold as many as 30 custom motorcycles, worth around $70,000 each, it held in its showroom without telling customers.

“It’s not so much the money they care about, it’s the principle,” a source said. “They want their bikes.”

Business associates left handling Chopperworks’ affairs since Mr Richardson declared insolvency and appointed liquidators on Tuesday have been peppered with death threats in more than 100 phone calls.

A senior Bandido from Canberra reportedly obtained his motorcycle after threatening to shatter the glass shopfront of Chopperworks’ Albion shop by firing ball bearings from a gun.

A Queensland police detective and security guards accompanied staff from liquidator Vincents Chartered Accountants who took stock of Chopperworks’ remaining inventory at Albion yesterday.

Vincents’ Peter Dinoris said a number of motorcycles had been released to customers who were able to prove ownership but many more were out of pocket after paying for work that wasn’t carried out.

“It doesn’t look like there’s a substantial amount of assets there,” he said.

Liquidators are trying to piece together Chopperworks’ accounts through invoices after its computer server disappeared.

Security records allegedly show Mr Richardson, who has Chopperworks’ franchises in Emerald and Canberra, left the Albion shop on Tuesday morning after the locks were changed and keys mailed to the liquidator.

Mr Dinoris said Vincents had been unable to contact Mr Richardson or his family since.

NEWS BULLETIN – BONNEVILLE/BUB SPEED TRIALS 2012–Late yesterday (Thurs.) afternoon I spoke with our fearless leader Denis Manning. He is on the salt, and has been there all week. Is he on vacation…NO.

He has been grooming and dragging what is looking to be 11-12 miles of HARD salt. He said the first couple miles were a bit bumpy, but smoothing out more with each pass of the drag.

If possible, please take a moment and drop Denis an email (bub@bub.com) to let him know you are aware and grateful for all the lengthy pre-race time he himself spends preparing the best racecourse possible for our favorite MOTORCYCLE ONLY Landspeed Racing Event.

See you in August

STURGIS SALOON VS. EASYRIDERS–
What a shame, but KSLB, Inc. the owners and operators of the saloon and restaurant located at the corner of Junction Ave. and Lazelle St. in Sturgis, South Dakota, are pleased to announce that the business has undergone a name change and is now known as the Sturgis Saloon Company. The business is no longer using the name Easyriders Saloon and Restaurant, and is no longer associated with the Easyriders brand. We remain open for business, and we look forward to continuing to offer the same great food, drinks, and service to the Sturgis community and all the bikers attending the upcoming Sturgis Rally.

KSLB&D also acquired the Broken Spoke at the other end of the block. We are still after them to call something Bandit’s Cantina. What the hell. For now that business will change its name to Sickies Garage. While maintaining its former character, including the memorial to fallen bikers, the property has undergone some renovations, which will enhance the customer experience.

Like last year, KSLB&D will also be operating Hooters during the Sturgis Rally. Hooters will be located in the same spot as last year between the Sturgis Saloon Company and Sickies Garage. KSLB&D is aware of the lawsuit filed against it by Paisano Publications, LLC in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The Lawsuit concerns a contract dispute between the parties which resulted in KSLB@D terminating the contract it had with Paisano Publications. KSLB&D denies the allegations in Paisano Publications’ complaint and intends to vigorously defend itself, including seeking all recoverable damages caused by Paisano Publications. The suit will not impact the operations of the Sturgis Saloon Company, Hooters, or Sickies Garage.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT TARDY STUDENT SUMMER VOCABULARY CLASS–pilikia pee-lee-KEE-ah, noun:Trouble.

After a while this older man spoke: “Remember, we never asked you to cause pilikia. We only asked that you help set things right.”

Otherwise, pilikia, particularly in the form of illness, will result for the mover.
Karen Lee Ito, Lady Friends

Pilikia stems from a Hawaiian word meaning “trouble”.

CROFT LEATHER HELPS WITH ROLLING THUNDER EFFORT–While working with Billy Lane during the USAF Tribute build for Rolling Thunder Event (which was a HUGE honor for me) I was also in contact with Jay Allen during completion of the seat. Jay asked if I would be interested in covering the seat for his Pot, Pills & Pussy Chopper.

I did not realize how much thought and time went into just the seat pan while speaking with him. When I got it, my jaw dropped and my thought process went broke. This would be my first King/Queen seat and I do not want to disappoint. All’s I can say is…Trust Your Pattern. I am very happy with the results so far and look forward to the completion of the seat. This is a preview of what I got so far.

California: Anti-Gun Bills, Including an Attack on Many Semi-Automatic Firearms, to be Heard Early Next Week–
Contact your state Legislators immediately!

If you think it is hard to own and possess a semi-automatic firearm in California now, Senate Bill 249, if enacted, would ban the ownership and possession of AR-15s and other magazine-fed semi-automatic firearms that currently use “bullet buttons” or other tools to restrict the removal of the magazine. This anti-gun bill would also authorize civil and criminal penalties for possessing a “conversion kit!”

Senate Bill 249 was amended from an agriculture bill to a serious anti-gun bill to eliminate the ownership and possession of most semi-automatic firearms by law-abiding Californians. SB 249, introduced by state Senator Leland Yee (D-8), would restrict any person from importing, making, selling, loaning, transferring or possessing magazine release components in semi-auto firearms (bullet button, etc).

But this nonsensical bill does not stop there in trying to eliminate semi-automatic firearms in California. SB 249 would make the possession of a “conversion kit” a public nuisance, authorize civil and criminal penalties and require surrendering the conversion kit. According to this bill, a conversion kit is any combination of parts that, when affixed to a firearm with a fixed magazine, are designed and intended to convert that firearm into an “assault weapon” as defined in the bill.

This bill is currently being amended AGAIN and no one is clear on what amended language will ultimately be voted on for SB 249. Regardless of what this bill looks like in the end, SB 249 is a pure anti-gun bill and MUST be OPPOSED.

SB 249 is expected to be heard and voted on next Tuesday, July 3 in the state Assembly Committee on Public Safety. This is also the deadline date for ALL legislation to pass or fail in the state Senate and Assembly policy committees for the 2012 legislative session. The state Assembly Committee on Public Safety needs to hear from ALL of California’s gun owners and sportsmen urging them to OPPOSE SB 249. Contact information for the Committee members can be found here. Senator Yee and his staff also need to hear from California gun owners expressing their outrage that the Senator would suggest such a bill and urge him to pull SB 249 from the agenda. Senator Yee and his staff can be reached at 916-651-4008 and by e-mail here or at Senator.Yee@senate.ca.gov.

California has over 950 firearm laws on its books and criminals do not respect any of them. California Legislators think that adding more laws will reduce criminal activity, but 950 firearm laws later, criminals are still not respecting California law. Please urge the members of the state Assembly Committee on Public Safety to protect the Second Amendment rights of California’s law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen and OPPOSE SB 249.

Also on Tuesday, the state Senate Committee on Public Safety is scheduled to hear two anti-gun bills: Assembly Bill 2549 and Assembly Bill 2460.

AB 2549 would allow only a law enforcement officer who has been honorably retired to request to retain their personally owned and regulated firearms. If an officer should leave for any other reason their personally owned regulated firearms will be confiscated and/or surrendered for disposal. The NRA is opposed to confiscation of firearms and this will only lead to further legislation trying to confiscate firearms for whatever reason anti-gun extremists can think of to use.

AB 2460, introduced by Assemblyman Roger Dickinson (D-9), would ban law enforcement officers from transferring handguns that aren’t on California’s approved “roster” to anyone but law enforcement officers. Currently, California law allows for the transfer of firearms that are not on the approved “roster” to be transferred to law-abiding civilians. These transfers must go through a licensed firearms dealer and are only transferred when the new civilian owner has passed a criminal background check.

Please contact members of the state Senate Committee on Public Safety and urge them to OPPOSE AB 2549 and AB 2460. Committee member contact information can be found here.

On Tuesday, Senate Bill 1315 failed in the state Assembly Committee on Public Safety. Unfortunately, it has been approved to be reconsidered by the same committee and will also be heard next Tuesday, July 3. SB 1315, introduced by anti-gun extremist state Senator Kevin de León (D-22), is just a stepping stone to completely destroying California’s firearm preemption law. Firearm preemption laws are in place to standardize firearm laws across the state. This critical law keeps law-abiding gun owners from being placed in jeopardy of running afoul of local restrictions they don`t even know exist simply because they have crossed from one municipality to another.

BIKERNET SPONSORS 2012 CANNONBALL–
Exactly 10 weeks from today, on September 7, the Motorcycle Cannonball riders will toe up to the line in Newburgh, New York and blast off for their cross-country adventure. Plans and activities are being finalized and shared with the public on our website www.motorcyclecannonball.com so folks can follow along from the comfort of their living rooms as the pack of 77 antique motorcycle pilots wrangle their ancient iron through 11 states.

Gotta be honest here..I can hardly wait to see that green flag flutter and watch the charge of the bikes when they whack the throttles. There is just something about those old bikes that makes your heart zing, isn’t there? We have entries from 11 different countries across 4 continents!

I’m wondering what kind of language issues there will be, the cultural diversities, understanding of the route maps…will guys be getting lost, how many break downs will there be..the list of curiosities that keep running through my head is endless. I suspect that regardless what the issues may appear to be on the surface, the common language of the machinery and the open road will be the bond that proves to make the odyssey a magical tour.

The carefully laid out route itself is worth the anticipation since we’ll see some of the best parks, memorials, museums, forests and landmarks our nation has to offer. Stay tuned as we share our adventure with the world….

We appreciate bikernet’s support and are proud to fly your logo on our website. Readers can also find us on Facebook under the Motorcycle Cannonball.

OFF TO RIP’S BAD RIDE—Smokin’ next week, we will publish reports on a Le Pera seat build, Born Free, Rip’s Bad Ride, the Victory Judge, the Marlboro Man bike controversy, Smoke Out, more Girls of Bikernet, Bagger Techs, Trike features from Australia, new Shovelhead rocker covers from Throwback MC Parts, you name it, we’ll be cookin’.

And here’s a link to the New Midnight rider:

http://www.bikernetbaggers.com/pages/Midnight_Rider_18_Wheels_of_Stealthy_Steel_EPISODE_14.aspx

In the meantime, I need to hit the showers and get the hell out of here. The Judge can’t be late.
