SANTA ANA THURSDAY NEWS, NOT FOR THE FAINT AT HEART, May 1st 2014

Hey,

This is going to be a thought-provoking news. A friend went to a bank recently. It had no tellers. The longshoremen were recentlly told the new automated dock wouldn’t mess with staffing. They kicked it off and it works flawlessly—no people allowed.

We got word that a publishing group in our industry cut all staff salaries. They have downsized over the last couple of years to a total of four editorial staff members, and all payments to writers and photographers have been slashed or eliminated.

Our economy rose a very small amount last quarter. We are now behind China, I believe. But the regulations keep coming. They just don’t get it. Freedom works.

Let’s hit the news. Don’t forget the Thursday News is sponsored in part by the Cycle Source Magazine Team.

THE LATEST IN HAND-TOOLED ADAM CROFT SEATS–I wanted to share my most recent leather seat. It was the first request for filigree art on a seat. I easily could have used filigree clip art, but I challenged myself to draw my own design to create a one of a kind leather seat for my customer.

MISSOURI MOTORCYCLE RIDERS MAY SOON RIDE FREE–SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Danne Roberts thinks riding a motorcycle is liberating,

but not when he has to wear his helmet.

“I’m 70 years old,” said Roberts. “I think I’m old enough to decide whether or not I need to wear a helmet.”

He may soon get this choice. Current Missouri law requires every person operating or riding as a passenger on a motorcycle to wear protective headgear while is in motion. House Bill 1655 would lift the state’s motorcycle helmet mandate for riders age 21 and older.

Sponsor of the bill Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Missouri) said it’s an issue of freedom of choice.

“Even though I think wearing a helmet is the wise thing to do, it’s not a proper function of government to tell an individual they have to wear a helmet,” Burlison said.

Lori Minor teaches a motorcyclist course at Ozarks Technical Community College. She said motorcycle riders need to always prepare before they get on the road.

“The most important thing is the gear is to make sure you are prepared, protected, in case something does happen where it’s out of your control, that you are protected so you have a helmet on,” said Minor.

Many helmets approved by the Department of Transportation contain a piece of foam underneath an outer shell. It’s this foam layer that can mean the difference between a minor and serious head injury.

“This absorption foam absorbs the energy of the crash,” said Minor.

Velvet Scholtz, Director of Trauma Services at Mercy Hospital, said the number of motorcycle injury cases at the unit has increased significantly
within the past two years.

“The primary injury that you see that we worry about the most is the head injury. Motorcyclists that are helmeted- their injuries are mid-body, extremities,” said Scholtz. “But our unhelmeted- it’s the head injury that they’re most concerned about. It’s the head injury that causes the majority of the fatalities and morbidities where these patients will be incapacitated for a lifetime.”

But Roberts feels safer headgear-free.

“When I ride without a helmet, I slow down, I pay attention, I watch what’s going around on me, I’m refreshed, I’m a much safer rider,” he said.

Proponents of the bill also point out that current law hurts tourism because motorcycle riders look to travel to states where it is legal to ride without helmets.

The bill now moves on to the Senate.

I always find these reports interesting. The press can help the establishment push to take our freedoms, but what about the freedom of press? Why don’t they get it?

Freedom always works in so many ways.

You can wear a helmet and risk severe neck and spinal cord permanent injuries. Or you can wear a helmet and risk being hit by a car, because you couldn’t see or hear him approaching. You may be permanently disabled, but you won’t have a head injury.

Freedom works!

Very good article…. really liked it a lot. Now i know why there are so many pot-holes. All that means to me is that we are getting more an more of those creatures off of the roads we all travel. Now if we can get all of the states to pitch in and bury those little creatures by just putting a little cement or black-top to cover them up, that would be really great… Ride safe… and watch out for those burial plots or pot-holes…. until we meet on the rode …..BE SAFE……….JC

BIKERNET BOOK OF THE WEEK CLUB–The first is Bill Hayes’ latest book HELL ON WHEELS. We have had some great feedback. One reviewer said yesterday:

“Lest you think Bill Hayes’ book is a latter-day knock-off of Hunter S. Thompson’s “Hell’s Angels,” rest assured, it is not… Hayes is not only a more credible author on the subject, it makes his book infinitely more engaging. Whether outlaw motorcycle clubs send a chill down your spine or make you want to ride with them, with Hayes’ book, you also will come away with a better understanding of who and what they are.” –UltimateMotorcycling.com

NEWS FROM CYCLE SOURCE MAGAZINE–I have just finished an article in Cycle Source about the life of Ball. What a hardy ridden life. Man I have lived a parallel life without the most important ingredient.

That would be the fight for success at all cost even woman. I gave it all for a lady, my wife of 30 years and our three kids. Well, the down size took place last year and the wife wants me to now pick back up my dreams. Good women!

Is it too late to turn on the H-D shovelhead artistic switch after 30 years? I don’t know really, but failure isn’t in my dictionary anymore. I’ve bought a bike I had always wanted and it came the way I wanted. It’s a 1983 HD FXDG Willie G special twin belt wide glide and O YES it was in 7 boxes with title and odometer at 16,245 miles.

Thanks for the inspiration Mr Ball.

FEDS TO INCLUDE MOTORCYCLES, in intelligent transportation systems research–
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informed the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) recently that they do in fact intend to include motorcycles in the research they will be doing about vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology.

V2V technology, in theory, allows for individual vehicles to communicate with each other on the road. The conversation would let the individual vehicles inform other vehicles as to how fast it is moving, where it is moving to, and how far away it is from other vehicles. The theory goes on to assume that using this technology will reduce crashes and therefore injury and loss of life.

The technology works something like this: if a vehicle is approaching another vehicle at a greater rate of speed and a collision is imminent, the vehicle can brake itself to slow down and avoid the collision. Or if a distracted driver is bearing into your vehicle’s space, it will automatically employ evasive actions such as hard braking or swerving.

“Vehicle-to-vehicle technology represents the next generation of auto safety improvements, building on the life-saving achievements we’ve already seen with safety belts and air bags,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “By helping drivers avoid crashes, this technology will play a key role in improving the way people get where they need to go while ensuring that the U.S. remains the leader in the global automotive industry.”

When NHTSA announced that it was going to begin taking steps to enable V2V communications technology for light vehicles, the MRF was concerned that motorcycles would be negatively affected by not being included in the discussion. It was revealed to the MRF that the initial research will focus on passenger cars, but motorcycles will be included eventually.

NHTSA plans on equipping motorcycles with V2V technology so that the vehicle can transmit signals to other vehicles on the road to provide a warning of potential vehicle collision and avoid it.

Technology changes to motorcycles are certainly beginning to rise. Liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, touch screen equipped Harley-Davidson’s are just the first wave. What comes next is anyone’s guess. Some of it is certain to be helpful, like GPS, but taking full control of a motorcycle away from the motorcyclist is one of the worst possible ideas in the universe – taking any controls away from the rider is not acceptable.

The MRF will work to make sure that never happens.

JIMS Brake Fluid ID and Corrosion Detection Strips–We know the hydraulic fluid in brake and clutch systems may need to be changed or flushed. The question is: When?

At JIMS, we have the answer. These detection strips reveal the condition of the fluid, as well as the hydraulic system itself. For obvious safety reasons, we feel these are a must for service departments as well as the home mechanic.

BrakeStrip detection strips also determine whether there is DOT 3, 4 or a combination of the two fluids in the system. The Brake Fluid ID and Corrosion Detection Strips are part #757 and are $122.00 (MSRP) for a quantity of 100 test strips. A MEMO FROM THE RIDE TO WORK STAFF
2014 Motorcycle and Scooter Annual ‘Ride To Work Day’

The 23rd annual Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day is Monday, June 16th. Every year more than a million two wheeled moto-commuters demonstrate the benefits of riding, including: reduced road congestion, shorter commute times, more parking spaces and less fuel consumption.

Your city can support this event by proclamation, and also encourage riding by providing free motorcycle and scooter parking at municipal ramps and metered spaces on this day. Join hundreds of other communities as well as many motorcycle and scooter groups and organizations supporting this year’s Ride to Work Day.

Reasons to encourage motorcycle and scooter commuting:

Shared parking spaces, providing more parking for everyone else.
Fewer resources consumed per-commuter than other powered mobility options.
Reduced traffic and congestion.
Less commuter travel time.
We seek government, employer and community support and recognition of the positive social benefits of riding. Proclamations and providing motorcycle and scooter parking at no charge, are great ways to encourage this beneficial (and enjoyable) form of transportation.

Supporter Tools:
Here’s a template for a letter to city Mayors, requesting a proclamation of support. www.ridetowork.org/files/mayors/2014_Mayor_letter.doc

If your city officially supports Ride to Work Day by proclamation, contact local media, and also send us a copy of the Proclamation so we can post it on our website.

BIKERNET GUN NUT REPORT–NRA Victory in the Peruta “Shall-Issue” California CCW Case, What does it Mean? What Happens Next?

A landmark ruling came down on February 14, 2014 in the NRA-supported case of Peruta v. County of San Diego. A three-judge federal panel from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down San Diego County Sheriff William Gore’s policy requiring that law-abiding adults prove they have a special need in order to establish a “good cause” to be issued a license to carry a firearm in public before he would issue them one. This ruling may at long last ultimately result in California joining over forty other states and becoming a “shall-issue” jurisdiction.

The Peruta ruling affirmed that the Second Amendment protects a law-abiding citizen’s right to bear arms outside of one’s home–in some manner. In other words, the court held that while the government can regulate or even ban some forms of carry (like open or concealed) it cannot ban all forms of carry.

California law generally provides only one way to lawfully carry arms in public, i.e., with a concealed carry license. So, if the Peruta decision stands, California sheriffs and police chiefs will no longer be able to deny licenses to carry firearms to people simply because they cannot prove that they have a special need to defend themselves that would constitute “good cause” for the license.

What Happens Next?

The Peruta decision is not final. At least not yet. It could still be reconsidered by what’s called a “limited en banc” panel in the Ninth Circuit, and it could also be reconsidered by the U.S. Supreme Court. To read more about the en banc process and how this case could develop, visit here.

Apply for a License to Carry Now!

People have asked whether they should apply for a license to carry now, or wait to see what happens in the Peruta case. Because there is no final judgement in Peruta yet, there is no final court order or judgment forcing authorities to issue licenses under the Peruta criteria. If your particular sheriff or police chief would not issue carry licenses before Peruta, technically they are not legally required to change that policy–yet.

Nonetheless, some authorities see the writing on the wall and are accepting an applicant’s general desire for self-defense as sufficient “good cause” for a carry license based on the reasoning in the Peruta decision.

Applying for a license now will demonstrate to these authorities that there is interest in the issue, and that there is an engaged and informed electorate that is going to insist on getting access to these licenses no matter what happens. And thanks to NRA-supported changes in the process by which license to carry are issued you should be able to apply without incurring significant up-front expense.

Support the Legal Effort

The NRA is committed to protecting the rights of citizens everywhere to bear arms. As things develop, the NRA will help its members in holdout jurisdictions to respect their Second Amendment rights and to enforce the Peruta ruling against every recalcitrant county and state in the Ninth Circuit.

You can assist in the fight to defend gun owners’ rights in California courts by donating to the NRA Legal Action Project today. For a summary of some of the many actions the NRA has taken on behalf of California gun owners, including the tremendous recent victory in the Peruta case clickhere.

Second Amendment supporters should be careful about supporting litigation efforts promised by other individuals and groups without access to the necessary funding, relationships, firearm experts and experienced lawyers on the NRA’s national legal team. The NRA’s team of highly regarded civil rights attorneys and scholars has the resources, skill and expertise to maximize the potential for victory.

I rejoined the NRA recently for an extended period. Consider joining and joining your motorcycle rights association.–Bandit

NEW POLITICAL BIKERNET COMMENT–Bikernet Independent Motorcycle Noise Study

http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=8242

— DJ Motorcop
djmotorcop@gmail.com
Location: Moncton, NB, Canada

Retired motor cop here. Sound travels at 750 MPH in a 360 degree radius in all directions. Sound also reflects off of objects and reverberates. Sound does indeed travel from your exhaust pipe in all directions. This is a common sense fact just go stand by the rail road crossing and listen and you will hear that train coming increasing in loudness until it maxes out at the exact time it is at your position and then diminishes in volume as it races away.

I was part of a study group of police officers that conducted noise level gathering in order to aid us in the prosecution of vehicles exhibiting excessive noise. Oddly enough once we set up our observation post and began to gather data we confirmed that one can, indeed, hear an approaching vehicle.

So, after listening and balancing our ears to adjust to the ambient noise we began to track vehicles approaching based on when we could hear a vehicle noise but not assign it to a vehicle near us. With members stationed up and down the road indicating when a louder vehicle was approaching we would visually confirm with a lidar laser radar the distance form us to them.

We found that most autos and motorcycles with stock configuration could not be heard until they were within less than 1/4 block of our location, yet modified autos of the fast and furious type could be heard at distances ranging from two blocks up to and including some at five blocks away a block is roughly 100 to 120 feet.

This study was done over several time periods and different time of day and at night. The purpose was to gather data to provide us an acceptable level in which to prosecute any persons operating any vehicle creating excessive noise.

We found the courts accepted that any vehicle heard from three blocks away and up from the listening point indicated that a vehicle was being operated in an excessive manner. Motorcycles of the Cruiser type driven normally at 2000 to 2500 rpm even with modified exhaust were not falling into that category. Yet, the throttle jockeys running at 3000 to 400 rpm in first gear were heard at distances further than four blocks. We found it is not so much the capability of producing the noise, as it is, the tendency for some fools to create it in overwhelming volume to amuse themselves, that creates the controversy.

I was struck in May 2009 on my police Harley with red and blue strobes flashing wearing a lime green jacket by a girl changing lanes who did not see me, nor did she hear me. I was cut off and lane pushed more on duty on my silent beauty in one shift than I ever was in a week of riding my off duty Harley with Python pipes.

I utilized the warning properties of sound to announce my location and impending arrival at intersections and as well as cross turning traffic while on duty by using my siren, and off duty by pulling in my clutch and rolling my throttle.

Horns are heard all day long in an urban environment they are ignored. In fact on our police motorcycles when working downtown we used whistles to grab the attention of motorists, as it broke through the ambient sound.

I was a Police officer 1976 to 2012, Motor cop six tours starting 1978 finishing 2012, retired as Chief Instructor RCMP Atlantic Police Motorcycle training 2012.

Loud pipes alert others to your presence, they can reduce the danger and save your life but they must be used responsibly.

THE JOHAMMER J1, Austria’s wild one–
The Johammer J1, which bears an undeniable resemblance to the Imperial speeder bikes in Return of the Jedi, is hardly the first battery-powered motorbike, but it is among the few capable of travelling 200km (124 miles) on a single charge. This sort of stamina – roughly equal to that of a gasoline-powered bike – elevates the J1 from the status of Saturday morning toy to bona fide road-tripper.

Though it may be tough to stop staring, the J1’s innovative features go beyond its slippery neo-retro body fairing. The bike has no traditional gauges: speed and battery level are presented within a pair of high-resolution 2.4-in colour displays mounted within the round rear-view mirrors. The steering is of the exotic hub-center variety, which separates steering, braking and suspension forces for improved stability. And the body offers two foot-peg positions (unlike a traditional motorbike, the J1 has no foot controls), providing a choice between hunkered-down and laid-back riding positions.

The Johammer bike may be stylish, technically advanced and energy efficient, but fast it is not. A compact 11kW electric motor mounted in the rear wheel hub provides the motivation; matched to a single-speed transmission, the motor’s 14 horsepower are tasked with moving upwards of 400lbs of bike, plus rider. The J1 is electronically limited to 62mph.

Providing the charge is a centre-mounted, 12.6kWh stack of lithium-ion battery cells, developed and manufactured by Johammer itself. The company claims the pack will retain at least 85% of its capacity after four years or 124,000 miles. Recharge to 80% takes 3.5 hours from a 240v socket, or just 80min with the optional 400v charger.

No surprise, straddling the future isn’t cheap.

The J1.150, with a smaller battery pack and a 150km cruising range, commands 23,000 euros (about $32,000); the beefier J1.200 will set its rider back 25,000 euros. For the merely curious, Johammer offers some quality time on the J1, via a 200km guided tour of northern Austria (including a stroll through its factory in the town of Bad Leonfelden), for 290 euros.

Since the spring of 1994 I have not stayed in one place for longer than two months. These exploits cover the whole of the US, Canada and Mexico, too. Through the years I’ve gained the ability to simply move into any town, make it my home, then stay as long as I like. It’s now easier for me to move around than it is to stay in one place.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON FIRST-QUARTER EARNINGS, RETAIL MOTORCYCLE SALES RISE
Diluted EPS Grows 22.2% on 9.9% Revenue Increase

Worldwide Harley-Davidson Retail Motorcycle Sales Climb 5.8%

MILWAUKEE, April 22, 2014 – Harley-Davidson, Inc. (NYSE: HOG) first-quarter 2014 diluted earnings per share of $1.21 grew 22.2% from the year-ago period on higher motorcycle shipments and continued improvement in operating efficiencies. First-quarter net income was $265.9 million on consolidated revenue of $1.73 billion, compared to net income of $224.1 million in the year-ago period on consolidated revenue of $1.57 billion.

“Harley-Davidson delivered gains on many fronts in the first quarter, with shipments up 7.3%, strong margin improvement and solid growth in dealer new motorcycle sales,” said Keith Wandell, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Harley-Davidson, Inc.

“Thanks to the great contributions of our employees, dealers and suppliers, we continue to lead at delivering exceptional customer experiences in 89 countries,” said Wandell. “Our Project RUSHMORE motorcycles were in high demand in the quarter and we began shipping the Harley-Davidson Street™ 750 and 500 into select markets. These motorcycles, together with continuous improvement in our operations at every level, underscore the momentum we’ve established as a customer-led company.”

Retail Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Sales Dealers worldwide sold 57,415 new Harley-Davidson® motorcycles in the first quarter of 2014 compared to 54,254 motorcycles in the year-ago quarter. In the U.S., dealers sold 35,730 new Harley-Davidson motorcycles in the quarter, up 3.0% compared to sales of 34,706 motorcycles in the year-ago period. In international markets, dealers sold 21,685 new Harley-Davidson motorcycles during the first quarter, up 10.9% compared to 19,548 motorcycles in the year-ago period, with sales up 20.5% in the Asia Pacific region, 8.2% in the EMEA region and 8.9% in the Latin America region, and down 2.4% in Canada.

“Our dealers had a solid quarter of retail motorcycle sales. Sales in the Asia Pacific region were up strongly, and we are encouraged by the continued growth of new Harley-Davidson motorcycle sales in Europe. We’re also excited to be entering the heart of the retail selling season in the U.S., having achieved first-quarter retail growth of 3.0% in the midst of a long, cold winter,” said Wandell.

According to Wandell, “there’s also great news for Harley-Davidson in the annual reporting of our demographic market share data.”

In 2013, for the sixth consecutive year, Harley-Davidson was the number-one seller of new on-road motorcycles in the U.S., both 601cc-plus and across all displacements, to young adults age 18-34, women, African-Americans and Hispanics (“outreach” customers) and Caucasian men age 35-plus (“core” customers), according to Polk 2013 U.S. new motorcycle registration data from IHS Automotive. The Company grew its U.S. market share and also increased its share gap to the nearest competitor in each of these segments, compared to 2012.

“Together with our dealers, we continued to expand the appeal of our products and the Harley-Davidson experience,” said Wandell. “Harley-Davidson dealers sold more than four times as many new, on-road motorcycles, 601cc and up, to U.S. young adults last year, and among riders age 35-plus, more than nine times as many to women, more than six times as many to African Americans and more than seven times as many to Hispanics, as the nearest competitor.”

According to Harley-Davidson’s internal data, retail sales of its motorcycles to U.S. outreach customers grew at more than twice the rate of sales growth to core customers in 2013 compared to 2012.

Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and Related Products Segment Results First-quarter operating income from motorcycles and related products grew 25.6% to $347.7 million, compared to operating income of $276.8 million in the year-ago period. Operating income in the quarter benefited from higher motorcycle shipments and higher gross margin compared to the prior-year period.

Revenue from motorcycles grew 13.1% to $1.31 billion, compared to revenue of $1.15 billion in the year-ago period. The Company shipped 80,682 motorcycles to dealers and distributors worldwide during the quarter, in line with guidance and a 7.3% increase compared to shipments of 75,222 motorcycles in the year-ago period.

Revenue from motorcycle parts and accessories was $198.1 million during the quarter, up 7.7%, and revenue from general merchandise, which includes MotorClothes® apparel and accessories, was $64.1 million, down 11.1%, compared to the year-ago period.

Gross margin was 37.7% in the first quarter of 2014, compared to 36.7% in the first quarter of 2013. First-quarter operating margin from motorcycles and related products was 22.1%, compared to operating margin of 19.6% in last year’s first quarter.

Financial Services Segment Results: Operating income from financial services was $63.2 million in the first quarter of 2014, an 11.7% decrease compared to operating income of $71.5 million in last year’s first quarter. First-quarter financial services results reflect a higher provision for credit losses.

Guidance
Harley-Davidson continues to expect to ship 279,000 to 284,000 motorcycles to dealers and distributors worldwide in 2014, an approximate 7% to 9% increase from 2013. In the second quarter of 2014, the Company expects to ship 92,000 to 97,000 motorcycles, up from shipments of 84,606 motorcycles in the year-ago period. The Company continues to expect full-year 2014 operating margin of 17.5% to 18.5% in the Motorcycles segment. The Company also continues to expect capital expenditures of $215 million to $235 million in 2014.

SCOOTER TRAMP SCOTTY ON TV
Here’s a link to a YouTube video I did on oil changes. It shows how to purge the system and talks of different oils. It’s good, really. Thought you might be able to use it.

I’ve also got a video series called Gypsy Cribs that shows the kinds of land I use and how I find it. Some get deeply into my choice of equipment as well. There are a lot of people out there who want to hit the road these days.

So many have asked why I get to travel so cheap, live so well while doing it, and never have to pay rent. I finally made these short videos to offer a few tried and proven ideas.

I also have one about bikers and the use of truck stops.

UNCLE MONKEY AND THE MYSTERY OF THE MISMATCHED PART
“I can’t sell you that.” I dismissed the salesman’s statement as fast as he had said it. My trip to the dealership was simply to price out some parts so I could budget them for the King build. As we talked it was becoming clear what he meant by he couldn’t sell me the parts.

You would think that it would be a supply and demand thing that Harley simply didn’t produce enough of the parts and now there was a shortage somewhere in the pipe line. Maybe the part was simply obsolete or just not available just yet as a replacement part but as we talked looking at the schematics on the screen there was a part number, price and even listed the part being in stock in his own inventory. If I wanted the part all he had to do was walk to the back to pick it from the shelf.

Finally after he reiterated again that he couldn’t sell me the part I asked what the problem was. The simple part I was looking for was for a TriGlide but I had said I had intended to use it on a RoadKing – he couldn’t sell it to me because it wasn’t designed for my motorcycle. I assured him I had a firm grasp of what I was doing but it was clear that he truly was not going to sell me the part.

Walking away I shook my head. I could see where he was coming from. In our litigation happy society people sue at the drop of a hat. Whether its because their coffee was too hot or that the local McDonalds ran out of McNuggets it has created a vortex of paranoia. If I used a TriGlide part on my RoadKing and it failed I could sue Harley-Davidson walking away with a big payday.

But that is just it. I was not using the part as the manufacture had intended, it should absolve the manufacture of any responsibility. Sadly we traded those rights and freedoms way. Common sense would say that if you buy a coffee it will be hot, but we argued and won that we are too stupid to know that.

Common sense would say that if you ignore human instinct to climb over a fence, then over a railing, cross a moat and get mauled by a bear then it is natural selection but we argued and won that zoos should know that we are too stupid to know that breaking into a bear cage is a bad idea.

So just like that caveman who decided to use a rock to cut flesh, just like Alexander Fleming who decided to use mold to treat sickness, just like the person who decided to install a camera on a cell phone – I’ll take my chances.

TESLA is a multi-platinum-selling rock band from Northern California known for their melodic songs and down to earth appeal. TESLA’s 2009 FOREVER MORE tour in support of the new album of the same name, gives their audience a 25-year musical journey that keeps the loyal fans coming back and has newcomers realizing, “WOW, I didn’t know they did that song! TESLA’s album, Forever More contains the first single “I Wanna Live,” along with “Breakin’ Free” and the self-titled track that opens the show nightly.

TESLA’s first HAC (Hot AC) track off Forever More, “Fallin’ Apart” is accompanied by a concept video available for viewing online. The ballad is sure to touch the hearts of music fans, similar to the way their hit single and crowd favorite, “Love Song” did in years past.

TESLA’s line-up consists of four of its original members: vocalist Jeff Keith, guitarist Frank Hannon, bassist Brian Wheat, and drummer Troy Luccketta and new guitarist Dave Rude who has brought a new energy and creativity to the band.

TESLA were formed in Sacramento, CA, in 1985, out of an earlier, locally popular group called City Kidd, which dated back to 1982. The band wrote original music and knew their name didn’t fit the sound. At management’s suggestion, the band named itself after the eccentric inventor Nikola TESLA, who pioneered the radio but was given only belated credit for doing so.

TESLA is more creative now than ever, simultaneously creating and producing their own videos and albums. The release of the self-produced Comin Atcha Live 2008! marks their first ever HD release of a full electric concert DVD.

BIKERNET OFFICIAL PHILOSOPHER DISCUSSES THE VICTIM–These are scary words for many of us, the fact that we have to take responsibility for where we are in Life is our responsibility. In my earlier years I loved to play the victim, I preferred to blame everyone else for my short falls in Life. It was so much easier to blame my parents, my past, my boss, the economy, rather than take on the responsibility myself.

I once heard a comment that the statute of blaming our parents ends at 18. That to me was a very heavy statement. I knew that I had to let go of my excuses and move on take control of my Life, even more I had to take my Power away from the past and control it in the present.

I can tell you I had many tapes playing in my head that were filled with lack, limitation, low self-worth, negativity, fear and past conditioning. Over the years I have learned that these tapes were not My Truth but it was up to me to take back My Power and to delete these falls beliefs in my conscious and subconscious mind.

As I began to believe in me and the Infinite Power that was lying dormant within, I began to grow, I began attracting more and more good in My Life. This path has been a journey not a destination and I now understand that the Good Life is an ongoing Gift that is my responsibility to accept and I raise my level acceptance each and every day.

Today is a gift that is why we call It the Present.

And So It Is

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY STILL OPEN
Arcelor-Mittal Steel, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, “How much money do you make a week?”

A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, “I make $400 a week. Why?”

The CEO said, “Wait right here.” He walked back to his office, came back in two minutes, and handed the guy $1,600 in cash and said, “Here’s four weeks’ pay. Now GET OUT and don’t come back.

“Feeling pretty good about himself the CEO looked around the room and asked, “Does anyone want to tell me what that goof-ball did here?” From across the room a voice said, “Pizza delivery guy from Domino’s.”

Female Motorcycle Gang Forbidden From Selling Cupcakes At Shooting Range— By Emily Smith,

The Devil Dolls Motorcycle Club planned to sell gourmet cupcakes to raise funds for charity on Sunday, only to be denied the reserved space they had requested since December based on what they believe is discrimination.

“Motorcycle clubs are not street gangs,” Theresa Foglio, the group’s president, said. “The bigger issue is profiling.”

When the group was denied with little explanation, they decided to protest outside the Pacific Rod and Gun Club for unfair treatment and stereotyping.

The manager of the club was apologetic, but had clearly been pressured by the city to revoke the group’s invitation to stage a cupcake sale.

The group noted that people often perceive them as the “Sons of Anarchy”, though their members consist of single moms and small business owners.

“I don’t know what they thought we were going to do,” Foglio said. “They want to discriminate against cupcakes?”

SAMSON TRUE-DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEMS BOOSTS TORQUE AND HORSEPOWER— Don’t let the attractive good looks of the Samson True dual exhaust systems fool ya! The installation of a Samson True dual exhaust PRODUCES PROFOUND INCREASES IN BOTH HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE! Pictured is a dyno-sheet from DK Custom Products that proves it.

Remember, whenever a new exhaust system is installed, a remap of the system (fuel injection) or a comprehensive tune-up (carburetor equipped motorcycles) is the best way to get the maximum benefit from the new pipes.

Note that with the Samson True duals installed and tuned as seen on this dyno-chart, a significant increase in both horsepower and torque was the end result. A result the rider can feel when twisting the throttle. AND, they look mighty fine at the same time.

Good looks, more power and torque, what more can ya ask for? The Samson True dual exhaust system described here averaged a 16% increase in horsepower and a 13.5% increase in torque. Turn your Harley-Davidson Softail into a real road burner with a Samson True dual exhaust system.

MORE FROM THE GUN NUT GUYS, BANK OF AMERICA ATTACKS GUNS–From the Owners of McMillan Manufacturing in Phoenix , Arizona

McMillan Manufacturing in Phoenix, Arizona, was contacted by Bank of America and informed that they will no longer be allowed to use their services ( Bank of America ) because they are in the firearms business and support the second amendment.

McMillan Fiberglass Stocks, McMillan Firearms Manufacturing, McMillan Group International have been collectively banking with Bank of America for 12 years. Today Mr. Ray Fox, Senior Vice President, Market Manager, Business Banking, Global Commercial Banking (Bank of America) came to my office.

He scheduled the meeting as an “account analysis” meeting in order to evaluate the two lines of credit we have with them. He spent 5 minutes talking about how McMillan has changed in the last 5 years and has become more of a firearms manufacturer than a supplier of accessories.

At this point I interrupted him and asked “Can I possibly save you some time so that you don’t waste your breath? What you are going to tell me is that because we are in the firearms manufacturing business you no longer want my business.”

“That is correct”, he says.

I replied “That is okay, we will move our accounts as soon as possible. We can find a 2nd Amendment friendly bank that will be glad to have our business. You won’t mind if I tell the NRA, SCI and everyone I know, that Bank of America is not firearms-industry friendly?”

“You have to do what you must”, he said.

“So you are telling me this is a politically motivated decision, is that right?

Mr. Fox confirmed that it was.

At which point I told him that the meeting was over and there was nothing left for him to say. I think it is important for all Americans who believe in and support our 2nd amendment “right to keep and bear arms” should know when a business does not support these rights.

What you do with that knowledge is up to you. When I don’t agree with a business’ political position, I cannot, in good conscience support them. We will soon no longer be accepting Bank of America credit cards as payment for our products.

I am fine with you re-posting it. . . . . . . . Thank for your support.

As a kid I always had an account at B of A and so did my folks. One year I returned from Vietnam and proceeded to buy a new 1969 XLCH Sportster. Of course I went to my bank to get a loan. The loan officer told me he would not give me a loan for two reasons: One, I was a serviceman, and second, I wanted the funds to buy a motorcycle. I immediately pulled all my funds from the bank and closed my account.

When I told my dad, he did the same and called and chewed out the manager. That was the last business I did with Bank of America.—Bandit

Escambia County Jail in Pensacola, Florida, Hit by Deadly Blast
By Cassandra Vinograd and Alexander Smith

At least two inmates died and more than 150 other people were injured when an apparent gas explosion collapsed part of a county jail in the Florida panhandle late Wednesday, officials said.

The blast occurred at the Escambia County Jail’s Central Booking Facility in Pensacola at around 11 p.m. local time (midnight Thursday ET), officials said.

Kathleen Castro, the county’s public information officer, confirmed the deaths to NBC News and said that both prisoners and corrections officials were among the wounded.

About 600 prisoners were in the building at the time. Uninjured inmates were being moved to other detention facilities, authorities added.

James McLean, who works at the Circle K gas station just a few hundred feet away, said the blast felt like an earthquake.

“There was a big flash that lit up the whole sky and the whole area shook for what felt like a good five seconds,” he told NBC News.

The injured were transported to five local hospitals for treatment.

West Florida Hospital took in 37 patients with “very minor, non-life-threatening” injuries, according to a spokesman.

“All of them have been seen in our ER, treated, and released back into custody,” Kendrick Doidge told NBC News.

Sacred Heart Hospital said it treated 31 patients with minor injuries such as abrasions and neck pain.

Baptist Hospital and Gulf Breeze Hospital saw a combined 81 patients, according to Liz Branch, spokeswoman for Baptist Health Care, while Naval Hospital Pensacola confirmed it saw six patients with minor injuries.

More on this story from breakingnews.com

Primary and secondary sweeps of the facility were completed by 1:15 a.m. local time (2:15 a.m. ET) but search and rescue crews were continuing to work in the building, according to officials.

Pensacola had been hit by severe floods earlier in the day. It was not immediately clear if that was a factor in the explosion.

Yet another week in a holding pattern of sorts…but good news is easy when you look for it, no butts about it.

Progress is inevitable. Never Give Up!

Two years ago as I rolled out of Salem, Oregon with a Rick Tedder one of a kind Chassis cradle freshly prepared drive train for an attempt at making a pass or two on the Bonneville Salt Flats. With a ton of new found energy, coupled with a take-it-to-Bonneville in a month, come-hell-or-high-water-attitude. We loaded and secured the newest dream machine in the back of my Ranger and hauled Ass to the next stop in Morgan Hills, CA. at Beach Racing. Christmas found me in Long Beach one more time. Easy my ass.

Reality might have settled in a year later when we discovered a list a mile long to provide the ultimate opportunity for success during the 11th Running of the Bub Speed Trials in August. Seems were close to eliminating the list of all lists.

We’re down to easy life saving details.

Such as the intercooler designed to meet and/or exceed the expected horse power and torque our Hyperformance/R&R Cycle engineered 124 inch Twin Cam will generate at speed. There’s nothing like running lean and melting down on the road or in the most important timed mile, in either direction or on any pass. Lean is not a success inducing quality.

We’re incorporating dry ice in the tail section hump with side mounted scoops designed to force air into the cavity and over the dry ice, directing the super cold air over the intercooler. Our fuel lines and pump are mounted in the tail section and will also benefit from the super chiller effect for maximum intercooler efficiency. Ice cold fuel and lots of it……Will see?

Our intercooler from Bell Intercooler for the Raycer may be on the way as we post the Thursday News.

Bright and early Monday ordered a strut from Pingel. The strut will be used for shipping and Dyno time in Confu, New York at Dan Thayer’s. Once home with a Happy Tune Up we’ll roll out to Race Tech in Corona, CA for a Mono Shock and a salt flats alignment.

Our 1/4 fairing for the street is much closer thanks to George The Wild Brush.

Stay Tuned….

FREEDOM NEEDS A VOICE!-
Story and Photos by David Campbell

Monday April 28th was Biker Day at the Capitol in Colorado and over 150 bikers attended to make their voices heard. Parked tight the bikes took up a city block and a half. US Defenders, Colorado Confederation of Clubs, and Coalition of Independent Riders organized the event, and behind it all was Tiger Chandler.

Tiger is the Colorado COIR Commander and a formidable force when it comes to defending the freedoms of bikers in Colorado. This is the 5th year for the event which has grown from a handful of bikers to this years number. Each year they have increased the attendance and are thus gaining more attention from the law-makers. “The visual impact of all the leather and bikes is an eye opener to lawmakers” Said Tiger

THERE YOU HAVE IT—We have a ton of content headed your way, and I need to clamor through writing three bike features.

But wait, I need to finish the second Chance book. There must be a way. I can’t wait to wrap it up. I’m hoping it will be my best effort. I’m a goddamn dreamer. I’m always hoping I will create a winner. Sure, I know the entire book industry is tanking, but I never give up.

There’s something about writing. It affords me freedom wherever I go. I’ve had these discussions with Scotty. Wherever we are, we can dream and express ourselves.

My mother is 91 and still ekes out a water-color painting once in a while. It’s her notion of creative freedom.

Speaking of Freedom. Don’t get me started.

Have a helluva weekend,
