Seasons Greetings Sunday Post for December 16, 2012

Hey,

We’re climbing on Christmas Holiday quick, and it’s a strange and wonderful one for the members of the Bikernet family.

Let’s get right to the news. Then I’ll fill you in on the weekend, and what’s coming next week.

Creating a Sanctuary at Home–
Your home – whether big, small or somewhere in between – should be your sanctuary, a place where stress is left at the door and your soul is nurtured. For a more comforting environment, gradually implement the following changes in your home.
Bring the outdoors in. Green plants, cut flowers and blooming bulbs, pieces of wood, rocks and other organic elements can create a feeling of nature indoors.
Paint a room to suggest a mood. For instance, blue and green promote a relaxed feeling and may be good choices for the bedroom, while warm colors (maroon, coral, burgundy) suggest a cozy environment and may be inviting in a family room.

Surround your senses with beauty. Artwork, fragrance, smooth textures and calming sounds all provide a pleasant environment in which to relax.

Set aside a room or area for peace and calm. A place for spiritual reflection and meditation can provide shelter from noise and distraction.

Clean out clutter. A low-maintenance home is refreshing after a day of hectic meetings, errands and chores. Fewer items can mean less frustration.

Create an atmosphere of love. Display handmade or meaningful gifts from loved ones and photos of family and friends.

Dressing like Santa, drinking, being naughty (possibly with a cute female elf) all while helping others sounds good

NEW YORK Santas hit streets for naughty fun NEW YORK — Thousands of men and women in Santa suits have taken to the streets of New York City to bring good cheer, be a little naughty and donate food for Hurricane Sandy victims. Saturday marked the annual SantaCon in Manhattan, a party in which carousing Santas and companions in reindeer and elf costumes move from bar to bar singing, acting silly and sometimes drinking to excess.

Participants are also asked to donate at least two non-perishable food items. Last year, the New York City event also raised $10,00 for the Toys for Tots program, a fact advertised on the event’s website with the notation that, “Your drinking helps kids.” There were SantaCon stops planned for bars in Manhattan and Brooklyn. — Associated Press

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY CAN’T EVER STOP--axial AK-see-uhl, adjective:

1. Situated in or on the line about which a rotating body turns.
2. Of, pertaining to, characterized by, or forming an axis: an axial relationship.

“This planet has no axial tilt,” he said as they passed under the portcullis. “And its orbit is circular. So no seasons.”

— Catherine Asaro, Skyfall

“Axial rotation” is not simply “rotation upon an axis” as nonchalantly defined in dictionaries, but is circular motion in the true physical sense. . .

— Nikola Tesla, Very Truly Yours

Axial originates from the Latin axis meaning ‘pivot.’ The Middle English suffix -al, turns what was once a noun into an adjective by applying the meaning ‘of’ or ‘pertaining to’ an ‘axis.’

OCC BUILD-OFF REVIEW–One guy was the builder of his stuff. Which was mostly made by hand. I really didn’t care for billet stuff in either side of the engine. As for the extra time. Not fair to the other builders. He should have been D. Qued!!

The other guy’s from Tejas met the time frame. A big plus to me. They played by the rules for the show. They built a more traditional Chopper. Liked the bike. A Shovel always makes for a good build. You can’t go wrong. I didn’t care for the color base coat. Like the 2 color layout scheme though.

I think Paul Sr’s bike was well engineered. He has a great team. Also some great equipment.

Jr’s bike looked like a freakin toy!! Like something you would buy from Dollar General for kid on his birthday!!

One thing I wanted to bring up here. None of these guys build their own engines in these shows. To me a bike builder should build their own engines and trans!! The engine is the heart and lungs of the bike. The Soul of the bike damn it!!

BIKERNET 5-Ball RACING WHEELER REPORT–

Bonneville, SCTA August 10-16, 2013
BUB Speed Trials August 24-29, 2013
2nd Grandchild, June
(BUB 8 months, 1 week and counting)

The Holiday Spirit rocked at the Annual Toy Run / Poker Run at Bennett’s Performance in Signal Hill, Ca. on a sunny SoCal Saturday afternoon. The pack arrived just in time for fresh, cooked on the spot, tacos with all the trimmings, cold beverages and one helluva band.

http://bennettsperformanceinc.com

Please support your local Toy Runs, rain or shine. It’s good for your heart, your soul, your motorcycle and a youngsters memory bank, good positive stuff. Plus, you get your hot rod out on the road for a few miles of winter time therapy. Happiness is a fire truck departing with boxes full of joy.

Speaking of a rollin’ therapist and needed seat time. Your 5-Ball Racing Team rolled out of R/T Performance in Salem late July. The roller was perfect. Now what?

http://www.airtech-streamlining.com

After straightening a few rookie mistakes (mine) along the way, we now have a running hot rod. Among the very minor issues, the rocker box on the rear cylinder needed a touch removed from the stiffeners above the valve keepers. After removing the rear head the men at Branch discovered a perfect set up. The pros from Branch walked next door to Bennett’s discovering the slightest mark caused by the intake valve collar barely touching, but enough to cause NO compression. We relieved both rocker boxes.

Friday afternoon at Bennett’s Performance with Eric and his father Bob standing by, we filled the fuel tank with Chevron Premium, cracked the Pingel Guzzler, primed the fuel system and thumbed the starter button…easy, come on baby, one more time and the 124-inch, S&S Cycle cases, R&R Cycle/Hyperformance balanced and engineered engine came alive. We muffled the exhaust for a few seconds with a shop towel to listen to the engine and drive train at idle. Quiet as a newborn mouse pissin’ on a cotton ball.

The latest greatest Gen-4, 3-Bar closed loop Daytona Twin Tech computer was programed by Dan Thayer in New York with engine size, compression, cam, etc. We idled for 4 or 5 minutes putting very little heat in the cylinders.

Since I may never save enough to take a trip to California and see the Bikernet HQ – I let Google Earth take me there as well.

Attached images of Bikernet HQ as Google database remembers it. Lot of trucks around there, couldn’t find your bike.

THE BIKERNET TEAM RUN TO THE MT. EVEREST BASE CAMP–Aakash will soon email a detailed plan.
From the brief talk I understand that you would have to have at least 10 riders for the adventure to get Royal Enfield company involved.
Enfield will provide entire organizing – includes 10 Enfield motorcycles, carrying petrol in a truck, a van with spares and factory trained mechanic, experienced tour guide, food and stay arrangements, etc.

The trip will start from India’s capital Delhi city. By road from Delhi to Leh, Ladakh, the famous lakes and Buddhist shrines there, the bottom of Himalayan range of mountains, etc. Then you can leave the bikes there to be picked up by their truck and fly back to Delhi and then from there fly back to USA. 14 days trip.

Enfield company will also provide you a letter through which you can apply for a Visa for the trip.
Maximum it should cost you Rupees 165,000 per person – includes everything above except India-USA airfare. It will be the best deal available to any human in India.

One US Dollar = Rs.55. So you need 10 people to shell out US $ 3000 to be spent in India. Additional expense is the international airfare, shopping, etc.

Best Wishes,
Ujjwal Dey

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM–A Touching Father and Son Exchange….

A young Arab boy asks his father, “What is that weird hat you are wearing?”

The father said, “Why, it’s a ‘chechia’ because in the desert it protects our heads from the sun.”

“And what is this type of clothing that you are wearing?” asked the young man.

“It’s a ‘djbellah’ because in the desert it is very hot and it protects the body.” said the father.

The son asked, “And what about those ugly shoes on your feet?

His father replied, “These are ‘babouches,’ which keep us from burning our feet in the desert.”

“Tell me,” added the boy.

“Yes, my son?”

“Why are you living in Dearborn, Michigan and still wearing all this shit?”

FREEDOM FIGHTERS CALL TO ACTION– Your help needed!

The Wisconsin Motorcycle movement in the 1970 – 1980’s was unique and most exceptional.
Repealing the Helmet Law and overriding a Governor’s Veto was exalting and empowering. No other state did what Wisconsin did. Through the Better Bikers Association, Abate of Wisconsin, the CC .Riders and Free Riders Motorcycle Clubs – We led the way! Nearly 100 clubs, countless individuals and perhaps divine intervention must also claim credit.

Pictures stories, personal reflections and interpretations are needed for:
– January 12, 2013 Abate of Wisconsin History.
– Possible display at Wisconsin State Historical Museum, Madison.
– Inclusion in upcoming movies: (1) Legends (110 years of the mystique and heritage of Harley-Davidson). (2) Homeowners Association/HOA (See: Wolfonthemoon.com)
– A Dave Zien autobiography by Bill Bottoms, Eau Claire – Miracle. Motorcycles, Madness, Maturation and Mindfulness??
– MMCMMMC, Milwaukee Motorcycle Music, Movie and Museum Committee, Special Projects.
– Discovery/ History Channel Documentation.
– Major displays at the five National Motorcycle Museums.
Your help will be crucial for the Abate meeting with Tony SanFelipo on January 12, 2013. To be revealed will be the movements for:
– American Motorcyclists Tribute I, II, III in Chippewa Valley.
– 107 stone monuments flags and poles, the majority in Chippewa Valley also.
– American Freedom Warrior Foundation, Inc.
– Miracle Mountain Motorcycle Movement Type Display at the Compound Big Bend, Wisconsin.
Tony is one guy who never forgot his roots or lowered his passion for freedom. His life is dedicated to the empowerment of the Biker Way of Life.
We will be paying special tribute to those who passed on, but whose spirits are alive within us. Randy Gerrits, Stub, Potato Creek Johnny, Dave Nelson, Dirty Rotten Peter, DJ Leonard Stone, Jingles, Mary Smiskey, Ron Bahr and Roach. There are others.
Perhaps consider it our duty and destiny to reveal the what, why behind the Freedom Fighter movement. The inside track, ulterior motives, behind the scenes – so much to share.

HARRY’S OLD STYLE AUSTRALIAN BIKE SHOW–Here are some shots of Harry’s Old Style bike show at the Mt Alford pub just Near Boonah in Queensland. (just an hour ride from Brisbane).

It was an awesome day with cool overcast riding weather. Notice the mountains in the back, very nice riding in that area.

Fantastic turn out for the second annual event.

As usual I was working on my bike the moment I got there.

Money was being raised for the local rural ambulance service, so lots of raffles and heaps of prizes and kids games etc.

The event was a two day thing with a lot of people camping over night, so they could enjoy the live bands and a few “social” drinks.

Nov 3rd and 4th, and will be back on again next year bigger and better.

DOCTOR HAMSTER’S SUNDAY MANTRA —
I just received an e-mail that expresses an almost counterintuitive perspective that I happen to believe in wholeheartedly:

Feeling Lucky to Encounter Fear
“So the next time you encounter fear, consider yourself lucky. This is where the courage comes in. Usually we think that brave people have no fear. The truth is that they are intimate with fear. When I was first married, my husband said I was one of the bravest people he knew. When I asked him why, he said because I was a complete coward but went ahead and did things anyhow.” ~ Pema Chodron from When Things Fall Apart

A big part of this life is about embracing our fears and challenging times as opportunities for growth rather than something we need to avoid at all costs.

As part of that, we can remember that being brave is not about having ‘no fear’;
It’s about experiencing the fear and then doing what needs to be done anyway!

Wishing you Health,
–Dr.Christian Reichardt

BRAND NEW BIKERNET READER COMMENT–

HOLIDAY THURSDAY NEWS

Love the last comment. I am gonna follow your advice to the letter!!! Let’s ride!!!

SUPREME COURT STRIKES DOWN LAW AGAINST FILMING POLICE–
The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an Illinois prosecutor’s appeal to allow enforcement of a state law barring ordinary citizens from recording police officers as they do their jobs. A lower federal court had found that Illinois’ anti-eavesdropping law violates free speech rights because it was being used by police and prosecutors against people who tape law enforcement officers.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) had filed a lawsuit against Cook County in 2010 to halt prosecution of ACLU staffers for recording cops in public spaces, an activity promoted by the ACLU all over the country, but when Chicago officials objected the legislature passed a law outlawing the filming of them.

The so-called “anti-eavesdropping” measure was designed to prevent covert recordings without consent, but the State of Illinois has applied that statute to mean any photography in a public zone; meaning no photographing or recording a cop on a public street while he/she is making a traffic stop, arrest, or for any other reason. Most other states don’t have laws prohibiting the filming of anyone or anything in public places, and the Illinois law had some serious teeth, carrying a 15-year prison term.

But the High Court has sided with a lower court decision protecting the rights of Americans when it comes to privacy under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and they refused to take action on the appeal. In rejecting the state’s plea to criminalize videotaping police, the Supreme Court apparently agrees with the lower court, and police officers have no more expectation to privacy in public than any other person in America.

Read the whole story in Bill Bish’s complete December Coast-to-Coast legislative report on Bikernet this coming week.

NORTH CAROLINA HELMET VICTORY–
Written by Fred

Matt Danielson from Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group reports a helmet law victory in Cherokee NC on Monday Dec. 4th. They represented a client wearing a helmet without a DOT label, and won their case against the State, with the court ruling that the State needs to articulate how the helmet does not comply with the standard. They also report they have two more cases pending in Carthage NC Superior Court.

If you are riding in NC and get a helmet ticket, first of all, don’t volunteer to hand them your helmet, that is consenting to a search. Instead, state that you do not consent to a search. Consult your lawyer for specific advice, or contact Matt, as he teaches seminars on your rights about this issue.

Elizabeth Sorrell is handling these helmet cases pro bono.

STATE BRIEFS FROM THE ROGUE BAD COP FILES– Officer, wife charged with illegal gun sales.

MIAMI — A South Florida police officer and his wife are facing charges of illegally selling hundreds of weapons over the Internet and at gun shows. Prosecutors said Friday that 42-year-old Hialeah police officer Rafael Oscar Valdes and 45-year-old Tammy Lynn Valdes were charged with dealing firearms without a federal license. That carries a maximum five-year prison sentence.

Rafael Valdes also is charged with making a false statement regarding a firearm. That carries a maximum 10-year sentence. Authorities say the couple sold at least 100 firearms over the Internet to people in 44 states since 2005. They also allegedly sold more than 500 weapons at gun shows.

The indictment says nine weapons were sold to undercover agents. Court records did not list attorneys for the couple. Their arraignment is set Jan. 11.

Prosecutor aide guilty of aiding jailed spouse

FORT LAUDERDALE — An employee of the U.S. attorney’s office in South Florida has pleaded guilty to providing assistance to her convicted drug-dealer husband. Tamika Jasper-Barbary pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to conspiring to use a cell phone to provide her husband with law enforcement information that might impact his cocaine and pain pill business. Jasper-Barbary had a $57,000-a-year job in the grand jury suite for Miami’s federal prosecutor.

Andre Barbary was convicted in November of two drug-related crimes and awaits sentencing. Court documents say Barbary has been involved in the illegal drug trade for 10 years.  Jasper-Barbary’s agreement with prosecutors calls for a sentence of a year in prison, probation and a fine of $5,000. She will be sentenced in February and has agreed to resign from the prosecutor’s office.

NEWS FROM THE BIKERNET HOOKERS’ UNION–A dedicated Teamsters union worker was attending a convention in Las Vegas and decided to check out the local brothels.

When he got to the first one, he asked the Madam, “Is this a union house?”

“No,” she replied, “I’m sorry it isn’t.”

“Well, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?”

“The house gets $80 and the girls get $20,” she answered.

Offended at such unfair dealings, the union man stomped off down the street in search of a more equitable, hopefully unionized shop. His search continued until finally he reached a brothel where the Madam responded, “Why yes sir, this is a union house. We observe all union rules.”

The man asked, “And, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?”

“The girls get $80 and the house gets $20.”

“That’s more like it!” the union man said.  He handed the Madam $100, looked around the room, and pointed to a stunningly attractive green-eyed blonde.

“I’d like her,” he said.

“I’m sure you would, sir,” said the Madam. Then she gestured to a 92-year old woman in the corner, “but Ethel here has 67 years seniority and according to union rules, she’s next.”

NOW you know what’s wrong with the AUTO industry and the seniority system in the House and Senate.

SEASONS GREETINGS GODDAMMIT—It’s a cold Sunday on the coast. It’s 54 degrees in the shop, and reportedly will rain shortly. I sit at my desk shivering wrapped in a Harley blanket while trying to scramble the Sunday Post, so I have a few peaceful holiday moments. But it’s never a dull moment around the headquarters. I need to work on an official bike show judging criteria with a couple of brothers in the industry.

We hope to create a few guiding lights when it comes to bike show judging, then train others. I need to work on my museum book proposal with Michael Lichter. And I had some MRF Industry Council suggestion for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation board of directors. I need to follow up on them.

Then I would like to monkey with the Mudflap girl FXR. We corrected the handling, but now it vibrates, and there might be another rear motormount insert from Custom Cycle engineering to test, and I need to pull my pipes and heat paint them before they rust through.

Next week I will bring you the Coast-to-Coast Legislative report from AIM and Bill Bish. Then I need to wrap up Mark Daley’s outstanding bike feature. And John Gilbert interviewed Jack Knight, a motorcycle artist.

It’s non-stop around the headquarters, even during the holidays.

Ride forever,

–Bandit
