We are nearing the end of our first week into the New Year, and we’re cooking. I sense this is a critical year in so many respects. Plus, it’s going to be damn exciting. I spent five hours yesterday morning on a conference call with the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) Board of Directors. With the support of SMROs they keep an eye on everything that moves regarding motorcycles in Washington, from Helmet laws to the EPA.
SMROs are State Motorcycle Rights Organizations. They are the believers who fight for our rights on a daily basis all over the country. Through the MRF we have started the Motorcycle Riders Foundation Industry Council to encourage the business side of the industry to get involved in the legislative process. The board has now approved our logo and mission statement, which I will share with you soon. Then, for the first time, we will take our story to the V-Twin dealer show in Cinci, and speak with Industry guys.
This is just another item on the 2012 list. Throughout this year we will educate you on MRF goals, activities, and accomplishments. I hope everyone will see the benefits of this endeavor over the years to come. Consider joining the MRF, or the motorcycle rights group of your choice. I’m hoping the MRF, AMA, and NCOM will work closely in the future. I will continue to support any group that fights to keep motorcycling free. Let’s hit the news:

THE BIKERNET SENIOR CITIZEN CHRONICLES– “Ya know, when I was 25 and got a hard-on, I couldn’t bend it with both hands.
By the time I was 40, I could bend it about 10 degrees if I tried real hard.
By the time I was 50 I could bend it 20 degrees, no problem..
I’m gonna be 70 next week, and I can bend it in half with just one hand.”
“So, what’s your point?”
“Well, I’m just wondering how much stronger am I gonna get!”

AUSTRALIAN SURFERS PARADISE NIGHTCLUB WARNED NOT TO HOST BIKERS– Gold Coast nightclubs that entertain motorcycle clubs have been threatened with closure by Queensland police who say they are determined to clean up the ‘seedy’ strip.
A 30-year-old Mermaid Beach man is facing a ban from the Surfers Paradise nightclub precinct after he was arrested last night, following a run-in with club security.
Police say he has links to motorcycle clubs. They want the courts to exclude him from the area as they’ve done to 35 others.
The move comes at the same time as reports of escalating tension between the Rebels and Bandidos motorcycle clubs, whose members allegedly had a confrontation in a Surfers Paradise club last week.
Gold Coast Superintendent Paul Ziebarth said the onus was on night clubs not to allow “unsavoury” guests to enter.
Licensees have an obligation under the liquor act to maintain a safe environment, he told reporters on the Gold Coast.
“Rest assured, we do have quite a significant matrix if you like, of persons of interest within the Surfers Paradise area … the whole of the Gold Coast,” he said.
“Any of those persons that we know as known violent persons that are harboured and indeed entertained in licensed venues will be subject of close scrutiny from the police.”
Two clubs have closed down as a result of police and liquor authority operations, and more were under close watch now, Superintendent Ziebath said.
“A lot of those people aren’t entertained for long in Surfers Paradise because our police are on to them like a seagull on a chip, and they don’t last in that environment for too long,” he said.

BIKERNET 5-BALL RACING WHEELER REPORT–Everyday is simply amazing in Southern California where we hit a mere 79 degrees this afternoon with a light sea breeze.
The Bikernet staff has nearly recovered from the New Years Eve free for all. We were surrounded by a band of unknown associates and we had to watch our backs all night while swilling cheap shots of whiskey that kept appearing on the bar in the neighborhood saloon that’s hidden deep in the port. May have cheated death one more time.
Here’s the deal, it’s onward and upward in 2012 with a no-limit game on the table.
Cincy Trade Show
The Cincy trade show the first week of Feb. will be interesting to say the least. With an ever vigilant eye out for the newest and most innovative products that actually make a difference in performance or stopping high on the list.
2004 Twin Cam
With all of the major parts and most of the small shit for the top shelf build at Bennett’s Performance in hand we’re staged for a crank pin to roller rockers premium square motor Twin Cam build with a RevTech top end, Branch heads, Dark Horse balanced lower end, Fueling Cams, and misc. parts from Departure Bike Works.
2012 Bonneville Raycer
This is what Randy Torgeson at Hyperformance has to say about the S&S Cycle 4-5/8-inch stroker kit we’re running in the 124-incher. We’re running a new set of Stage 5 R&R Cycle billet heads, topped of with a Series 66 Aerocharger Turbo for maximum performance.
“We like the 4-5/8″ stroke for the street with a good set of high velocity heads. With this combination piston speed is less of an issue because the torque ramps up so quick that less rpm is used.”
Hang on for more reports.
Sturgis 72nd Annual Bikernet/Cycle Source Lazelle Lot
Be sure and stop by the Bikernet/Cycle Source Garage this summer. We’ll be located in the middle of the block on the west side of Lazelle St., across from the new Easyriders Bar and Saloon, Hooters and Jay Allen’s Broken Spoke.
Cantina members will receive a fresh slice of homemade raisin pie, just like the old days. Unless we run out early.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY TARDY STUDENT WEEKEND VOCABULARY LESSON–
Cimmerian si-MEER-ee-uhn, adjective:
1. Very dark; gloomy; deep.
2. Classical Mythology. Of, pertaining to, or suggestive of a western people believed to dwell in perpetual darkness.
I was ripe for death, and along a road full of dangers, weakness led me to the boundaries of the world and the Cimmerian land of darkness and whirlwinds.
— Arthur Rimbaud, A Season in Hell
Once beneath the over-arching trees all was again Cimmerian darkness, nor was the gloom relieved until the sun finally arose beyond the eastern cliffs, when she saw that they were following what appeared to be a broad and well-beaten game trail through a forest of great trees.
— Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan the Untamed
Like gasconade, cimmerian was originally a toponym. It referred to the Cimmerii, an ancient nomadic people who live in Crimea, according to Herodotus.
DUDE YA GOTTA GET INVOLVED WITH THIS–The MRF the Motorcycle Riders Foundation is one of the ways you can support the motorcycle industry. We are one of the last bastions of freedom remaining in this country. Did you know it’s against the law to work on your boat, if it’s in the water.
We can still build custom bikes, but it’s under constant attack by the ever-controlling EPA. They want to regulate everything. You virtually cannot repair your car legally. The government is constantly fighting over “Right to Repair” legislation.
I was recommended by a friend to read: The Limits of Power by Andrew J. Bacevich. Here’s a quote, “Americans need to reassert control over their own destiny…Of perhaps even greater difficulty, the combination of economic, political, and military crisis summons Americans to reexamine exactly what freedom entails. Soldiers cannot accomplish these tasks, nor should we expect politicians to do so. The onus of responsibility falls squarely on citizens.”
MOTORCYCLE-USA.COM HONORS– American Motorcyclist Association with ‘Industry Leader’ award for 2011 PICKERINGTON, Ohio — In its annual “Best of” awards for 2011, Motorcycle-USA.com, a leading online motorcycle magazine, named the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) as its “Industry Leader” for efforts to overturn a federal ban on the sale of kids’ dirtbikes and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).
After nearly three years of lobbying by the AMA and others, President Barack Obama on Aug. 12 signed into law H.R. 2715 to exempt kids’ off-highway vehicles (OHVs) from the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008, commonly known as the lead law. The CPSIA, which went into effect on Feb. 10, 2009, banned the making, importing, distributing or selling of any product intended for children 12 and under, including kids’ dirtbikes and ATVs, that contained more than a specified amount of lead in any accessible part.
“The lead ban not only had a disastrous effect on the industry, already hit hard by the economic downturn, it also put kids at greater risk by forcing them onto adult models — or not riding at all,” Motorcycle USA said in announcing the award. “It was the big industry issue that could never get resolved, but the American Motorcyclist Association kept the riding public informed and continued to lobby lawmakers for a permanent fix…”
“…It’s easy to forget there are active forces lobbying against motorcyclists — so we recognize the AMA as an Industry Leader for the tireless defense of riders’ interests,” Motorcycle USA said.
“The AMA keeps fighting the good fight on a number of fronts,” MotorcycleUSA said. “Lobbying a laggardly Capitol Hill into passing a permanent fix on the CPSC Lead Ban was a noteworthy 2011 win, but there’s also OHV land access, motorcycle-only checkpoints, emissions regulations, even the formulation of gas that goes in our tanks… all are legal issues that have direct consequences for motorcyclists. The AMA does its best to stand guard, inform the public and mobilize rider action.”
Rob Dingman, AMA president and CEO, thanked Motorcycle USA for the recognition of the AMA’s hard work, and added that the ban couldn’t have been overturned without the diligent efforts of many people and organizations, from kid riders and their parents to the Motorcycle Industry Council and Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and many others.
“Federal legislators deserve a lot of thanks for their tireless efforts, especially U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.), U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and all the other lawmakers who supported an exemption,” Dingman said.
“Hundreds of thousands of parents, kids and motorcycling club members responded to AMA calls for action to contact their elected officials and their efforts — along with all those volunteers, including 2011 AMA Motorcyclist of the Year Nancy Sabater, who circulated petitions, attended our AMA rally against the law in Washington D.C. and took other actions — brought this issue to the attention of Congress and turned the tide in our favor,” he said.
Dingman also recognized the hard work of Sean Hilbert, president of Cobra Motorcycles; the Coombs family and Tim Cotter of MX Sports; Racer X magazine; Doublin Gap Motocross Park; Mason Dixon Riding Association 6 and 7; Tomahawk MX Park; the Middle Atlantic Motocross Association; Budds Creek Motocross Park; High Point Raceway; Motorcycle USA and the rest of the motorcycle enthusiast and trade media.

From the Desk of the President of the KENTUCKY MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION–
Well folks another year is in the books and we are running headlong into 2012. The organization had another good year adding new events in various parts of the state. Another great State Party was had by all at Lake Cumberland once again.
Districts 4, 10 and 11 started a family friendly dirt drag event which will hopefully grow over time. District 1 hosted another successful Toys for Tots and Easter Basket Runs. District 9 is still growing and growing along with Districts 12 and 18. District 2’s annual 4th of July ride went off like a brilliant firework. The organization has had a lot of successes once again this year but as always we need to find ways to improve and grow. This is where we need your help. Please be sure to spread the word to your friends and family and ask that they become a member. As we enter into the legislative session numbers speak volumes in Frankfort. Being able to generate the phone calls on an issue is a key element to our successes both past and future.
This session will be a busy one for sure. This year the legislature is tasked with redistricting. This is the process in which each political party tries to gain an advantage by creating districts which will favor their candidates. It is a tool they use to try and weed out members they do not think toe the party line at times. It is definitely not a pretty sight during this time as folks will not get exactly what they want in all cases and legislators will get mad at one another over the decisions made. This is all within the first few weeks of the session. Now they are mad at each other over the redistricting then the big debate starts, how to spend the money.
This year is also a budget year which is always tense at the end of the session as deals are being thrown around in an effort to reach an agreement.
Now that you have an idea of what will be happening in large part during this session I want to invite you to come discuss some of the finer details. The annual legislative conference for the KMA/KBA is the Freedom Fighters Forum. This year it will be help at the Hotel Louisville in downtown Louisville, KY on Jan. 28th.
So far we have confirmed a host of speakers including Sen. Dan Seum and Rep. Alicia Web Edgington who is running for the 4th Congressional District among others. Come have a chance to ask what is happening in Frankfort and Washington D.C. from the people who are there.
The bikers rights community was the TEA Party before they existed. While I welcome the involvement of all citizens to rally against the government intrusions in our lives please let us not stop with just biker issues. There is so much more ahead of us. Stay tuned by signing up for our online alerts and political updates on the website at www.kmakba.com. It is the fastest way to get information to you in order to be able to act accordingly. The KMA will help keep you informed of the latest issues affecting your rights and freedoms.
All I ask in return is that you help to grow the organization and spread the word to your family and friends. Remember that strength comes in numbers so let us raise our voices together. Speak out NOW against the intrusions of government into our daily lives and work to elect people who will stand for these same principles.
–Jay Huber

GOOD GOD, MORE POLITICS–Congress Must Fix the Indefinite Detention Provision of the NDAA Law
There is a worthwhile legislative initiative underway in Congress to counteract the unconstitutional, new detention policy included in the recently passed and signed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
Read “Rep. Landry Offers Amendment to NDAA to Protect Civil Liberties” to learn about Rep. Jeff Landry’s (R-La.) new bill H.R. 3676 to amend Section 1021 of the NDAA to restore all the rights of due process to American citizens.
Landry’s H.R. 3676 has 31 cosponsors.
Send a message to your Representative and Senators, asking them to counteract the unconstitutional detention policy in the new NDAA law by passing Landry’s H.R. 3676 in both the House and Senate.
NDAA – Open Season for Police State
by Jim Babka, DownsizeDC
How the New Indefinite Detention Provisions can be used on Americans
Congress just passed, and the President just signed, a bill that gives legal authority to the President to kidnap and perpetually imprison persons, including American citizens, without the benefit of due process.
Members of Congress, in the days leading up to the vote, tried to assure their constituents that they have nothing to fear — that the bill doesn’t apply to Americans.
Some were lying. Most were deceived.
Now, I don’t want to imply that Barack Obama plans to sweep up every one of his critics (or even a select few) because of statements they’ve uttered publicly. That is overstatement. The law doesn’t permit that. But consider the following scenario…
You object to the way the Federal Leviathan State is run. You gather, every other Tuesday, with others who share your values. We’ll call your fictional group the Constitution League (CL).
One night, a new fellow shows up. He’s frustrated and outspoken. He complains that the time for meetings is over. Something must be done — something that will “get their attention.” You’re uncomfortable with his remarks but unsure how to respond.
You hope he never returns, and he doesn’t.
What you don’t know, until months later, is that one of our CL colleagues, the chapter Vice President, followed the vocal man out to the parking lot. The two exchanged email addresses and phone numbers. Then, your local VP reached out to a third man, a member of a CL chapter in the nearest big city. The three met regularly. They plotted and executed their own terrorist plot on a U.S. Government facility.
Now, your group meeting was the place they met. The Vice President used his CL email account. CL is all over the news. CL is now, for all intents and purposes, a terrorist group.
And you? Well, you’ve donated to the terrorist organization. You’ve participated in its meetings. The night this angry man walked in, you didn’t call the authorities.
* Can the President have the military come and arrest you? Yes!
* Can he (or she) send you to a military tribunal for trial or just hold you indefinitely in a military facility, without charges? Yes!
Even the bill co-sponsor, Senator McCain, appears to agree with this assessment. Senator Rand Paul asked John McCain, on the Senate floor, “…under the provisions, would it be possible that an American citizen could be declared an ‘enemy combatant’ and sent to Guantanamo Bay, and detained indefinitely?” McCain responded, “I think that as long as that individual, NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE, if they POSE A THREAT to the security of the United States of America, should not be allowed to continue the threat.” {Emphasis Added}
Wait a minute. Wasn’t there a provision in this bill that exempted Americans?
Despite what your Congressional office may have told you (if you called during the debate over this bill) the answer to that question is an emphatic NO!
The relevant sections of the bill are 1021 and 1022.
* Section 1021 asserts the President’s authority to arrest suspected (not convicted) terrorists and gives him the option to choose whether or not they even get a trial, and if so, what kind of trial.
* Section 1022 requires that a certain class of terrorist get no trial. Instead they must be held in military prisons, for as long as this President, or any future President desires.
SECTION 1021
Section 1021 is very expansive in its reach. It “includ[es] any person who has committed a belligerent act or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy forces.”
* Who is “any person?”
* What is a “belligerent act?”
* What is “direct support?”
I still don’t get why we are so paranoid. We have always taken care of business in the past. Citizens took care of the terrorists on the fourth plane. We don’t need more laws restricting our freedoms. We just kick ass when it’s needed. –Bandit
BIKERNET REPORTER IN THE GULF DRILLING FOR OIL–On the BP Thunderhorse I ran explosives to cut the production tubing at 20,500 ft. The explosive detonated as it should when I fired it before the tubing came free the rig floor pulled 980,000 lbs almost 1 million pounds of tension to free the pipe.
The rig never budged. How does an electric motor pull 1-million pounds of force and the rig floating on 6000 ft of water never moved? How does an electric motor pull 1-million pounds of force?
Think about the voltage that is required?
It is nothing short of amazing in the real sense of the word. I was simply awestruck at the construction and machinery on Thunderhorse
For a mechanical person it was like witnessing the pyramids
How does anyone conceive such a concept?
The rig was “alive.” It was it’s own animal, man was there to serve it
There is no unemployment. There is the unemployment of the human mind.
To be a tiny part of such a project was something I would have done without regard to $.
Money can not compare to being able to witness such an endeavor.
Next project the Enterprise
http://www.deepwater.com/fw/main/Discoverer-Enterprise-141.html
I worked there after being terminated from Schlumberger following 9-11
I ran a steam boiler to keep the testing facility from freezing as the gas production was flowed and tested.
I knew nothing about steam boilers except they could kill you in an instant.
Meanwhile the young Schlumberger engineers could not connect the satellite internet
so with a nod to my ex-employer I did the hardware and software connections for them
then it was back to the steam boiler
I email you as I know you are my friend.
You have keen awareness of the mechanical and the connection of man to machine
I am privileged to see such endeavors and marvel at the human effort behind the gas pump.
What I see is not limited to the oilfield, it is everywhere in our daily lives.

BIKERNET BLONDE FILES–
This is the story of a blonde flying in a two-seat airplane with the pilot. The pilot has a heart attack and dies. She frantically calls a May Day:
“May Day! May Day! Help me! Help me! My pilot had a heart attack and is dead. And I don’t know how to fly. Help me! Please help me!”
All of a sudden she hears a voice over the radio saying:
“The is the tower. I have received your message and I will talk you through it. I’ve had a lot of experience with this kind of problem. Now, just relax. Everything will be fine! Now give me your height and position.”
She says, “I’m 5′ 4″ and I’m sitting in the front seat.”
“O.K.” says the voice from the tower. “Repeat after me: Our Father. . . Who art in Heaven…..”

EASYRIDERS FIRST SHOW OF THE SEASON IN ANAHEIM, CALIFA–
Kind of like a Mongols meeting, musta been over a 100 there & three Vagos. No babes, at least in the audience. They produced a Calendar Girls-type troupe on stage. And last year Lichter was shooting away, this year I didn’t see a studio.

Here are a few shots I snapped off just for reference. Wink built a sharp Red HD w/ Sidecar he did for someone, like to see if it’s been shot. A guy from Las Vegas has this beautiful old Blk & wht FLH, I’d like to track him down, too.

MOVIN’ RIGHT ALONG–I dislike stepping into the political arena. We are inundated with this crap constantly, but it’s our government. We need to fight it or fix it. That’s why I like the motorcycle rights community. We listen to and read a lot of bullshit in the media, but these guys know what’s really happening on a daily basis. I trust them.
In the meantime, I have some projects to accomplish for the MRF board. I need to make some recommendations about their web site, and help with the MRF Industry Council.
Next, I need to dive back into the shop. My son’s bike is getting damn close and I need to insure that it’s ready for the TV crew on Tuesday. We hope to fire it to life in front of the cameras.
Hang on for another Mudflap girl tech update next week, the first report on the Bikernet Cycle Source Sweeps build. You could win it. Then another Chapter of Chance’s World Run, and another feature from North Carolina.
Have a helluva week.
Ride Forever,
