SNIFFLIN’ SUNDAY POST

Hey,

It’s a mellow Sunday with our building rattling every time a truck rolls past. We had a helluva Pre-Love Ride Party, and I’m scrambling on my 1%er book for Motorbooks. Jeremiah’s Zipper’s/PM/BUB tech will be launched tomorrow and I might start working on the 5-Ball factory racer this afternoon.

We’re beginning to launch more Cantina material like a Humble Girl of Bikernet, another Cantina soap, a sizzler, and I’m working with Bob T. on another historic discovery. I actually have the photography for a boardtrack racer you’ve never seen, but obtaining publishing permission from the owner is daunting.

I caught the Las Vegas mung and couldn’t make the Bud Ekins auction at the Peterson Museum, but the Bikernet official antique motorcycle curator from Sierra Madre, Don Whalen, picked up a couple of Bud Ekins racing trophy for the Bikernet collection.

Let’s hit the news, then I’ll run down the content flying at Bikernet for next week.

DEKRA workshop in Brussels– In order to improve road safety the European Commission is preparing a proposal to harmonise PTI in Europe. The Commission’s Road Safety Action Plan already indicates that there will be a call to include motorcycles into the PTI regime. In countries where motorcycles have to be inspected regularly already the tests are likely to become stricter and therefore more expensive for the consumer. FEMA is campaigning for the Commission to leave the decision, if and how to test motorcycles, to the member states.

There is no proven safety benefit of PTI. An independent study by the two scholars Peter Christensen and Rune Elvik(1) showed that tighter inspection rules for cars in Norway did indeed result in an improvement of the technical conditions of the car but, opposite to expected, the desired effect of lowering accident rates was not observed. Since riders tend to maintain their motorcycles frequently the effectiveness of PTI for motorcycles can be expected to be even less than for cars, particularly when all PTI guarantees is that the vehicle conforms on a set date, but not for the intervening period.

The pictured table provides numbers from the OECD about killed motorcyclists, total road deaths and the evolution in the number of motorcycles from 2000 to 2009. The countries marked do not require PTI for motorcycles. The table shows for example that in Great Britain between 2000 and 2009 the rate of motorcycle fatalities fell by 23% while at the same time the number of motorcycles on British roads increased by 42%. The numbers for the Netherlands are similar: 24% decrease of motorcycle fatalities while the number of motorcycles increased by 41%. Unlike in the UK, in the Netherlands motorcycles do not have to be inspected.

A similar comparison can be made between the Germany and Norway. Both countries show a similar decrease in motorcycle fatalities around 32% but in Norway the number of motorcycles rose by 59% compared to merely 7% in Germany. Germany has a long lasting tradition of severe testing while Norway still excludes motorcycles from its PTI regime. Of course, based on this exercise it would be oversimplified to conclude that PTI is useless. But it can be taken as a clear indicator that the presumed positive effect of PTI on motorcycle accidents is far from striking. Other factors must play a more prominent role.

Why is the introduction of PTI for motorcycles a European issue?

The reason why PTI does not have a significant impact on motorcycle safety is that technical defects hardly contribute to motorcycle accidents. Additionally DEKRA, the leading vehicle testing organization in Europe, finds in its Motorcycle Road Safety Report 2011(2) that inaccurate tyre pressure is the most common defect of relevance to an accident. But tyre pressure is not part of the technical inspections carried out by DEKRA members which is due to the fact that the pressure of tyres should be checked at least biweekly instead of biannually.

According to the European Commission there are more than 32 million powered two wheelers registered in Europe. Assuming a low estimate of average cost of around €50 per inspection, riders would end up paying at least €1.6 billion every two years in case PTI became mandatory for all kinds of powered two wheelers. This might be the main reason why testing organizations like DEKRA, TUEV or CITA persistently promote PTI for motorcycles as an indispensible safety measure. The mentioned €1.6 billion still exclude the costs of the expenditure of time arising from presenting the vehicle to an inspection or for possibly unnecessary remedial work.

Riders’ protest grows steadily

FEMA is campaigning for the European Commission to leave the decision about how and whether or not to inspect motorcycles to the member states. Speed limits, differing riding styles and road conditions do not justify the implementation of German testing standards all across Europe. Instead of making riders pay billions of Euros for inspection engineers, just to let them know that their headlamp may not be working once every two years, more financial resources should be dedicated to rider training and motorcycle friendly crash barriers.

A facebook group, originally created by FEMA to invite riders to participate to the Commission’s internet consultation on PTI, already exceeds 2.600 concerned motorcyclists. The public consultation has been closed since September 24 and besides the upload of contributions to the consultation, the publication of its final result is still pending.

DEALER EXPO to stay in Indianapolis through 2016– The Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association announced today that the Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo will remain in the city for at least five more years. The expo has made Indy its home since 1998.

The city has made substantial investments to lure convention traffic in recent years, including expanding the Indiana Convention Center, building the Lucas Oil Stadium, bringing in the massive J.W. Marriott hotel complex and more. These efforts have produced a crowded calendar 16 months from now in February 2012, with three conventions (including Dealer Expo) coming to town after the city hosts the coveted 2012 Super Bowl at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Dealer Expo is the city’s largest convention, and delivers a meaty return on investment for Indianapolis: the expo reportedly books 16,000 hotel room nights and generates more than $20 million in direct visitor spending each year, according to the ICVA.

“Indianapolis will be an even stronger city host to Dealer Expo over the next five years,” said Danny Phillips, executive vice president of Advanstar Communications Inc., parent of Dealer Expo and Dealernews, as quoted in the ICVA announcement. “The major development and exciting expansion of the convention center, stadium and hotels, combined with good transportation and a great range of other services for our attendees, exhibitors and sponsors is exciting and provides more reasons to visit our event. We’re confident Indianapolis’ impressive new infrastructure will attract even greater numbers of customers and allow Dealer Expo to continue its growth.”

At press time Advanstar had not yet issued its own announcement of the show’s extension.

DISCOVERY, Britten V1000–  I’d never heard of the Britten motorcycle until I moved to New Zealand in 1997. But in the motorsport-mad Land of The Long White Cloud, John Britten is a household name—and rightly so. His V1000 has been described as ‘the greatest motorcycle ever built’, because Britten effectively built it in his own backyard, and it trumped the works machines on the racetracks.

Designed in 1991, it had a carbon fiber frameless chassis and carbon fiber wheels. The front suspension was an adjustable double wishbone girder-type, and the 999 cc V-twin put out over 160 bhp. (As an aside, this was one of the first race bikes to use data logging.) In 1992 the V1000 won the Dutch round of the Battle of The Twins, and in 1994 the Daytona round. In between those victories, the V1000 smashed four motorcycle world speed records: the standing start quarter mile, mile and kilometre, and the flying mile at 302kph.

Tragically, just as the motorsport world realised there was a giant-killer on the scene, John Britten succumbed to cancer. He died in 1995—leaving us to wonder what might have been if he’d carried on developing the V1000.

PS: The documentary One Man’s Dream: The Britten Motorcycle Story has just been remastered and re-released, with additional, never seen before footage. We’ve got three DVDs to give away—if you’re on Facebook, head over here for your chance to win a copy.

THE VETERAN, Keith “Bandit’ Ball– Thank you brother….since you told me about serving three tours in Nam…I have often wondered how many people you talk too (not your Old time bros who would know), know about you tours.

More should if they don’t. Your gift to the motorcycle world for the last 4 decades has been an awesome gift your gift to our Country fighting in an “unpopular war” like Vietnam…speaks volumes about the man behind the “Bandit Legend”

WANTS HIS BIKE IN THE CANTINA–I’ve been looking at the bike features in the Cantina and thought my bike might be different enough for some one that would like a look…..

1340 cc Iron head, most everything is hand made. The Ness oil tank is out of the one-page catalog back in the ’70s, so it has a lot of history. We have crashed-caught fire- broke my ankle four times and have broken more H-D kicker gears than I can count. It tore thru three sprockets and about a half mile of  tsubaki 530 nickel plated chain. L series S&S carb with Joe Hunt magneto always starts on the last kick and it’s kinda fast…..

TRUE EVEL! Launches at Ace Cafe London Friday 3rd December 2010 at 7pm–Evel Knievel was the original daredevil, who defied the odds, thrilled audiences and was an inspiration to millions of people the world over. Now for the first time Evel’s original motorcycles, famous jump leathers, personal memorabilia, and untold photos and stories are being exhibited on a world tour for everyone to see and marvel at the wonder of his death defying achievements.

To announce the launch of the True Evel Tour, Knievel’s eldest son, Kelly, will be attending Ace Cafe London at 7pm on Friday 3rd December. Kelly commented, “My dad was an inspiration to millions of people and it is my honour to share some of his most treasured possessions and stories with his fans and kids around the world.”

Kelly’s one-off talk at the Ace, ‘Untold Stories about Evel Knievel An Evening with Kelly Knievel’ will be a fascinating insight to what it was like to have Evel as your dad. The evening will be hosted by motorbike enthusiast and ex-Top Gear presenter Steve Berry.

When Evel Knievel died in 2007, his career had spanned over 25 years. Evel’s first jump was in 1966 at the National Date Festival in Indio, California. From that point onwards, Knievel’s stunts became more ambitious and more dangerous. Some of his most memorable jumps include Caesars Palace (1967), Madison Square Garden (1971), Twin Falls – Snake River Canyon (1974) and of course the famous Wembley stadium jump (1975). In addition to the amazing daredevil achievements, Evel’s unique lifestyle allowed him to meet some of the most famous people from the last three decades and led to him becoming the only real life person to be turned into a comic book hero.

Evel currently holds the Guinness World Record for the most broken bones, with 35. Over the years Knievel had spent over 36 months in a hospital recovering and although he did not break every bone in his body he gave it a good go!

His pain was well received. When USA ABC’s Wide World of Sports collated the top twenty most watched sporting moments of all time, Evel featured five times – including the top spot. In one of his first jumps for ABC Wide World of Sports, Knievel successfully jumped 50 stacked cars at the Los Angeles Coliseum in front of a crowd of 35,000. This performance lead to a world record where Evel jumped 14 Greyhound buses at King’s Island amusement park in Ohio in 1975 which remains ABC Wide World of Sports highest rated show ever.

Teach your kids about good and Evel. With the throttle wide open Evel Knievel went head to head with danger and lived to tell about it. Despite failure, crashing and injury, he always rose to perform again. This unconventional attitude to do things that had never been done before is exactly what made him so famous.

Evel Knievel is an inspiration to people – young and old – who recognise they want to be in control of their own destiny. People who want to go out and do great things. People who use drive, determination, personality and hard work to become their own legend. People inspired to become their own brand of “Generation Evel”.

The True Evel Tour is set to inspire fans and families to “Dare to Dream” – Knievel was the daredevil who aspired to entertain and show that nothing is out of your reach. Now parents and their children will get the chance to see his famous Harley Davidson Jump Bike which crashed in a jump over a tank of sharks, the X-2 Sky Cycle from the Twin Falls, Idaho – Snake River Canyon, the Wheelie Dragster Car, and of course the instantly recognisable blue and white leather suits (with the scuffs & scars!) in the exhibit plus lots more.

The True Evel Tour opens in the Metro Centre, Newcastle, England on Saturday 4th December and will be located at first floor near the town square for one month. After the grand opening, the “True Evel” tour will then be loaded on a specially constructed lorry to embark on its journey around the world. Countries that will host the tour to date include:

·         Italy

·         Spain

·         Austria

·         The United Arab Emirates

·         Scotland

·         France

·         Ireland

·         Hungary

Historical facts:

Evel Knievel was born Robert Craig Knievel on Oct. 17, 1938 in Butte, Montana, USA.

After a police chase in 1956 in which he crashed his motorcycle, Knievel was taken to jail on a charge of reckless driving. When the night jailer came around to check the roll, he noted Robert Knievel in one cell and William Knofel in the other. Knofel was well known as “Awful Knofel” (“awful” rhyming with “Knofel”) so Knievel began to be referred to as Evel Knievel (“Evel” rhyming with “Knievel”). He chose this misspelling because of his last name and because he didn’t want to be considered “evil.”

And thus the legend was born…

NATIONAL MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM Offers More Than 100 Years of Motorcycling History–ANAMOSA, Iowa – Motorcycle museum fans in America have some wonderful choices; half a dozen public motorcycle museums have great experiences to offer. But one, the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa, is unique and now in a brand new, larger setting. It holds an amazing collection of over 300 motorcycles and when you visit you will see this museum is much more than motorcycles and memorabilia from all around the world, and from over 100 years of our great sport.

The National Motorcycle Museum is set up to help you get a solid grasp of casual motorcycling and racing, in addition to a taste of American motorcycle culture. You can immerse yourself in the stories of celebrities and characters like Arlen Ness and Von Dutch and take in rare art, sculpture and personal effects from these American legends. A showcase full of images and objects takes you into the wild life of showman Evil Knievel. The museum is set up in theme areas and just about every space is crammed with goodies. And you have great access; there are no ropes or barriers because they figure you know not to touch.  High ceilings permitted the designers to create a mezzanine to display a fantastic collection of pedal cars designed as trucks and even airplanes. And there are a few dozen motorcycles and bicycles up there, too. Over 400 rare toys in several large antique showcases may take you back to your childhood and to your grandfather’s.

Talking with Museum staff you will also learn that this museum will likely never be finished or stay the same. There is a changing gallery that will host a new large exhibit each year. Also, a 1930’s antique gas station is being restored at the moment and soon will be installed with a full complement of petroliana; gas station memorabilia from signage, old road maps, calendars and old oil cans to restored antique gas pumps. Loaned and donated bikes arrive and are added to specific exhibition areas almost weekly.

What kind of bikes will one see at the National Motorcycle Museum, you might ask? Many are machines most of us have experienced; Harleys, Hondas, Triumphs, BSAs, Kawasakis and Allstates of all types.  But if you enjoy rarities, and early bikes, you’ll get close enough to examine the finest details of machines by Curtiss, Flying Merkel, Indian, Vincent, Brough, Maserati, NSU, Ducati, and brands like Moto Guzzi, Pannonia, Excelsior, Ariel and Zundapp, many in original paint like the amazing 1912 Henderson Four.

Cruise into the National Motorcycle Museum (open daily except for major holidays), located in Anamosa, Iowa, and experience the extensive line of over 300 motorcycles from around the world as well as thousands of photographs, posters, postcards and pieces of motorcycle memorabilia, plus a fabulous collection of antique toys. The National Motorcycle Museum is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation. BETTER PAY ATTENTION TO THIS NEW LAW, AT $754.00 ALMOST LIKE A D.U.I.– If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road, you have to change to the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down to at least 20 mph under the posted speed limit.

Every state except Hawaii and Maryland  and the D.C. has enacted this law. In California, the Move-over law became operative on January 1, 2010. http://www.moveoveramerica.com/ A friend’s son got a ticket for this recently. A police car (turned out it was two police cars) was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone else. He slowed down to pass but did not move into the other lane. The second police car immediately pulled him
over and gave him a ticket.

He had never heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if
you are able, you are to move into the far lane.

The cost of the ticket was $754, with three points
on your license and a mandatory court appearance. Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law. It is true (see details at the following web address).  www.moveoveramerica.com

REPORT FROM SUCKER PUNCH HEADQUARTERS–I am however really excited that we are signing three new dealers this month and we got our official floor plan letter, after a year and a half this week in the mail. THAT is news worthy for us, allowing us to build 30 bikes for our dealers that applied and got approved. I believe that makes us the only manufacturer with a floorplan source. Guess that proves that sticking it out down to the bone works.

I am going to Mexico to solidify a deal that takes our drinks international all through Mexico, again, huge plus for us. Diversity helped us there again, should payoff once we get the language converted on the cans within a few months, finally seeing the light. We’re doing a bike and drink event today here In Phoenix.

KRYLON JOHN UNDER PRESSURE FROM BIKERNET UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR, NUTTBOY–Bandit, Gee whiz here I was all excited to hear what your friend that teaches art at a local junior college had to say about what separates a custom painter from a mainstream artist, and instead I get critiqued with an F on my writing skills, called ignorant to the business of art, and if I didn’t know any better I’d say the good doctor was trying to make me feel stupid.

Dr. Nutboy, if you don’t mind can we try this again only this time without answering everything that’s wrong in the world today and get right to the point? Thanks. How can Ellen Sterling of the Huffington Post say “Jack Armstrong’s V-Rod is unique because it is the first time an artist has ever painted a Harley-Davidson?” Next, what is it about Jack Armstrong’s work in particular that commands 1.1 million dollars when it’s applied to an ordinary V-Rod?

I’m not as ignorant to the business of art as you might think. I’ve studied art a little, and have a collection of David Mann works, as well as a few other well-known Kustom Kulture artists’ pieces given me through the years, and I understand why they are valuable. I’m not outraged at how expensive rare things can get. The photograph taken at Pete Engel’s upholstery shop in Placentia, CA. shows some of the types of cars that Kenny Morris and I do custom paint and bodywork on. At front left the black ’66 Ferrari 275GTS, which is worth over 2-million, and the ’55 Ferrari at the right rear is valued at over a million.

The little silver ’61 Porsche just sold for $160,000, and the red ’32 Ford roadster seen here in an incomplete stage has over $275,000 invested in it so far. The other photos are of my office located in a friend’s car collection housed in a building he owns in Irvine, CA. To the average person I’m sure it looks like just a bunch of old Fords, but trust me they’re worth a lot of money. Not because I say so, but because Bob has spent a lot of money to collect, and maintain them.

Yes, as you say Kenny and I aren’t recognized art critics, but I don’t think anyone has to be an art critic to know what they like. Based on what I know as a custom painter there’s not a whole lot of talent, or skills needed to create what Jack Armstrong did to the V-Rod. If you were to tell me the 1.1-million dollar value assigned to Jack Armstrong’s V-Rod is based solely on his name as a brand, I get it. The guy has a dynamic personality, and I’m sure there are wealthy collectors in the world that would just love to own some of his work based on that reason alone — Oh, and I still say Ellen Sterling is full of shit.

QUICK BANDIT’S CANTINA MOVIE REVIEW–  I just watched a movie called “Once Fallen.” Most of it was filmed down in San Pedro, California. Good footage of the Harbor, bridge etc. Also some footage of the “Pike” at night.
When the film’s lead gets out of jail, early on there is some good footage of Century Cycles. It was a low budget film. Storyline is fairly good.
Ed Harris was in it. Check it out.

SUNDAY BUCKSHOT TECH TIP–Just discovered something… I was having trouble getting the fork tubes through the bottom tree, and found that the front axle has the same threads as the fort tube caps, so you can thread the axle down through the top tree, and use different lengths of PCV pipe as shims on the axle to pull the tubes into the top tree an inch at a time. Made it a lot easier.

Thanks for this. Sometimes it takes a great deal of patience to slip the tubes through the trees. Beware of any changes, like chrome, powder coating, different axle spacers, etc.–Wrench

MOTORBOOKS 1%ER BOOK TEASER–I’ve grappled with a way to throw out teasers regarding the book I’m writing for motorbooks. I lot of time has gone into research and the following article was pulled from the LA Times archives. I may run excerpts from time to time, so you’ll get a taste of the research behind the book:

In one of the largest settlements of its type in California, the city of Hawthorne agreed Thursday to pay nearly $2 million to resolve a lawsuit in which members of the Vagos motorcycle club and others claimed they were targets of massive police abuse in the early 1980s.

The settlement, which involved 70 plaintiffs who claimed their rights had been violated by the Hawthorne Police Department, brought an end to a civil trial that had been under way for more than three months in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Attorneys for the Vagos said the settlement was a vindication of their clients’ claims that Hawthorne police officers had engaged in a campaign of harassment against the bikers.

“I don’t think anybody expected a motorcycle club to achieve this kind of victory,” said Paul Hoffman of the American Civil Liberties Union, the lead attorney in the case. “But we demonstrated that when anyone’s rights are violated, you can get full vindication in our system.”

THE BIKERNET BOXING REPORT– For those of you who missed the fight today you missed something special! Without a doubt not only is Manny Pacquiao the greatest boxer EVER acknowledged by all the worlds boxing scribes following his victory (brutal flogging) of Margarito but he also showed what respect he has for his opponent wherein he asked the referee to stop the fight with two rounds to go for he did not want to hurt Margarito any further. The referee chose not to stop the fight hence Pacquiao chose not to hit Margarito any further. What a Champion athlete and person! UNREAL!!!!!

BIKERNET MEDICAL LAB FINDINGS, Runny Nose Bothering You?–Postnasal drip occurs when the thin mucus secreted into the throat by the lining of the nose and sinuses decreases and thickens, causing irritation. Often triggered by respiratory ailments such as colds, allergies and/or sinusitis, postnasal drip can be particularly uncomfortable when you are lying down, and may interfere with sleep. If you experience postnasal drip, try the following:

   1. Eliminate dairy products for two months to see if the symptoms resolve.

   2. Drink at least eight glasses (two quarts) of filtered water or other healthy liquids a day.

   3. Cut back on coffee, caffeinated soft drinks and alcohol – all of which cause the body to lose water.

   4. If you smoke, quit.

   5. If you suspect that allergies are a cause, consider experimenting with stinging nettles or quercetin to help control your symptoms.

ENGLAND WORLD’S FASTEST CHALLENGE– LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM–(Marketwire – Nov. 11, 2010) – Since Britain lost the two wheel land speed record in 1937, British engineers have tried to win it back for decades. According to British engineers, UK will once again hold the title in 2011 or 2012 if they can secure £100,000 to build the world’s fastest motorbike.

The group of engineers will attempt to build a bike capable of breaking the 400mph barrier. To do so, the two-wheeler will need a 700bhp engine, which will allow it to travel one mile in nine seconds. The project has been named ‘The Angelic Bulldog Project’ and stakeholders met to discuss their plans at the recent Bird Cage Walk in London on 23 September.

The team responsible for bringing the world record back to British soil consists of 12 engineers who will utilise British design, manufacturing, products and services in an aim to help restore Britain’s position as a leading engineering nation. The team members boast extensive expertise gained in areas such as Formula 1 racing and the 24 Hour Le Mans Race.

The team’s leader, chartered engineer Jim Brown, is the only full time member of the team and is an active member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMEchE), which supports the team’s goal to raise Britain’s engineering profile.

According to Brown, “The UK has a great track record in engineering which is so often ignored. We hope this inspirational project will help achieve global recognition for British engineering skills and talent. If we can do it we will be the first team to exceed 400mph on two wheels and reclaim the title which has been held by the Americans for the last 53 years.”

Your Credit Score and its role in motorcycle insurance–Every insurance company has its own underwriting model that classifies risk and tiers pricing. They key to their accuracy they claim, is your credit score. This is why they need to know your Social Security Number at the time of quotation and why we always ask you for your SSN.  Our insurance companies use credit scores to develop your personal “insurance score” to accurately classify you as a risk – which after all, is what the business of insurance is all about.

Classifying you as an “insurance risk” involves several key factors such as: your Motor Vehicle Record, Type of Motorcycle, Claims History, and your Credit Score.  It’s all complicated to say the least. That’s why insurance pros like us at Bikernet Insurance exist.

Credit-based insurance scores are here to stay folks so you might as well understand them.  Here’s the low down.

1. Insurance scores are designed to predict future insurance losses.

Research indicates that individuals with positive credit profiles generally have fewer and less expensive claims. The insurance companies are telling us that certain patterns of behavior in credit histories clearly show who is most likely to incur insured losses. Credit scores they claim, is highly predictive of claims losses.

2. The better your credit score the more favorable your rating and your premium.

Insurance companies clearly give more favorable rates to consumers who are less likely to have losses. We see this trend everyday. Policyholders with with the lowest credit-based scores tend to have the highest loss ratios. Conversely, our highest scoring customers tend to have the lowest loss ratios.

3. What is an “insurance score?”

An insurance score is a number, ranging from 100 to 900, that predicts the future loss potential of an applicant for insurance. A “credit-score” is different. It is also a number, generally between 300 and 800. Credit scores predict the likelihood of future delinquency on credit accounts of a credit applicant. Like credit score models, insurance scores calculate scores based on credit bureau data only. Overall, insurance scores consider patterns of credit management practices to determine both the frequency and severity of future losses.

4. Insurance inquiries (getting multiple quotes) generally do not affect a customer’s ability to get a loan.

Many applicants wonder if by providing us with their SSN, this will impact their ability to get a loan or mortgage. The majority of credit providers do not use models that evaluate insurance inquiries when calculating credit scores. For example, multiple motorcycle dealership or mortgage inquiries in a short period of time are treated as a single inquiry. So, customers can shop around for the best deal — a sign of financial responsibility — without impacting their insurance score.

5. The following information is not used to calculate your insurance score.

Income, ethnic group, religion, gender, address, marital status and nationality are not used in any insurance score models.

So there you have it folks. Those of you with good credit scores are likely to get better rates because insurance companies see you as less likely to have losses. We encourage all of our clients to be financially smart and savvy. Please double-check your credit histories and correct any errors that may have found their way into your credit reports. Taking good care of your credit history is important. Its all part of smart financial management and, — paying no more than you have to for your motorcycle insurance.

DAMN COLD–I don’t get sick much. I can’t slow down, but once in a while it kicks my ass. I’m beating it, but it’s giving me a splitting headache today. I need to start working out again tomorrow. I missed a week of workouts. WTF.

We have another bike feature coming to Bikernet from Paul Garson, with lots of hot, cute girls in it. Derrel just sent me another chapter of Borderlands, and I will follow the Bub/PM/Zipper’s tech with a Compu-Fire Blackhawk tech. I’m working with Wire Plus on a couple of projects. I would like to yank my metric data acquisition system off the Assalt Weapan and replace it with a solid American unit. Plus we are working on a tech to afford fuel injected bike owners the chance to chop their EFI system and take it back to the carb supported days. We will work with S&S and Wire Plus on this transformation. Sure, fuel injection is more efficient, but it’s also cumbersome and generally not chopper friendly, unless you run with a Pegasus system.

Plus, next week Bikernet is launching a full on classifieds section. I can’t wait. In the meantime, I’ll down a few aspirin, try to follow Dr. Weil’s advice and hit the iron pile.

Ride Forever,
