So Cal Hot Flash Sunday Post

Hey,

Never a dull moment. Received an e-mail the other day. A Hamster, Jack Luna, died unexpectedly or an aneurism in his stomach, after having dinner with Barry Weiss. I thought maybe they were fighting over who had the coolest car.

Then I get a call this morning about a brother’s son dying in a freak car accident last night. This old-guy brother, Mike, who owns Pacific Coast Cycles, is an old time biker and he has experienced everything in his lifetime plus numerous recent surgeries, and survived. Then his son dies in a sleep-at-the-wheel accident (don’t know if he was driving or a passenger). What the hell? I will try to ride over for the memorial later today.

More and more we need to make lots of time for enjoying life, since it could end at the drop of a dime. Let’s hit the news:

BIKERNET SMART ASS ANSWER VAULT NOW OPEN–A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store but she couldn’t find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, ‘Do these turkeys get any bigger?’

The stock boy replied, ‘No ma’am, they’re dead.’

SMART ASS ANSWER

The police officer got out of his car as the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. ‘I’ve been waiting for you all day,’ the officer said.

The kid replied, Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could.’

When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket.

SMART ASS ANSWER

A truck driver was driving along on the freeway and noticed a sign that read: Low Bridge Ahead. Before he knows it, the bridge is right in front of him and his truck gets wedged under it. Cars are backed up for miles. Finally a police car comes up. The cop gets out of his car and walks to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says, ‘Got stuck, huh?’

The truck driver says, ‘No, I was delivering this bridge and I ran out of gas.’

SMART ASS ANSWER OF THE YEAR

A college teacher reminds her class of tomorrow’s final exam.. ‘Now class, I won’t tolerate any excuses for you not being here tomorrow. I might consider a nuclear attack or a serious personal injury, illness, or a death in your immediate family, but that’s it, no other excuses whatsoever!’

A smart-ass student in the back of the room raised his hand and asked, ‘What would you say if tomorrow I said I was suffering from complete and utter sexual exhaustion?’

The entire class is reduced to laughter and snickering. When silence was restored, the teacher smiled knowingly at the student, shook her head and sweetly said, ‘Well, I guess you’d have to write the exam with your other hand.’

BIKERNET STOPS FOR A RELIGIOUS MOMENT–Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel , “Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land.”

Nearly 75 years ago, (when Welfare was introduced) Roosevelt said, “Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land.”

Today, Congress has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, the economy, the wars, lost jobs, lost savings, unsure Social Security, lack of retirement funds, etc …. I called a Suicide Hotline. I had to press 1 for English. I was connected to a call center in Pakistan . I told them I was suicidal. They got excited and asked if I could drive a truck……??

BRAND NEW FROM LE PERA–Le Pera’s Bad Ass “Nomad II.”

Original, unique and just plain bitchin, this killer new seat by Le Pera is yet another completely new design from the company that sets the standard for thinking outside the box.

Unlike anything we’ve seen before, the side “slashes” are the obvious design stand out here. These “slashes” play off the lines of the tops and sides of your bikes hard bags, creating a bad ass, low sleek custom look.

No, this isn’t a cross country touring seat…and yes, it’s a lot more than a “Bar Hopper”. The Nomad creates an outrageous look for your bagger and is ideally designed for those weekend adventures. Contact your local dealer or go right to the source at: www.lepera.com

AIMExpo Launches New Website and New Logo–Showcasing America’s Premier Powersports Industry Gathering–
IRVINE, Calif. (November 2, 2012) – The march towards October 2013 continues for the American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) with the launch of a fully featured and robust new website at AIMExpoUSA.com that also reveals a newly designed event logo. As the countdown clock on the site chronicles, the inaugural show is less than one year away!

The new AIMExpo website was crafted to address the needs of all industry constituents: exhibitors, dealers, media, and consumer attendees. “AIMExpo is about re-energizing the entire powersports marketplace, and the new website will be the primary source of news, information, and connectivity for the world of motorcycling as all corners of the market make plans to attend the inaugural event,” said Larry Little, Vice President and General Manager of the Motorcycle Group. “The site offers a wealth of information and details, and will be continually refreshed as the event approaches.”

Companies interested in exhibiting at AIMExpo can download an Exhibit Space Application Contract, request a booth quote, or communicate with a sales representative by simply clicking the “Exhibit” button on the website homepage.

Similarly, dealer attendees can pre-register for the event while media professionals can request a media credential for access to AIMExpo’s exclusive trade and media days. Closer to the show dates, consumers will be able to access the latest features, buy tickets online, and even compare local hotel rates.

“It is virtually unheard of for an event to offer this level of service, information, and connection a year out,” said Kerry Graeber, Marketing Director of the Motorcycle Group. “This is just one example of the value we have pledged to deliver to the industry, as well as to powersports enthusiasts. Starting a ‘conversation’ with our customers and giving them all the tools they need to plan their involvement is just one way AIMExpo surpasses other events.”

Additional features found on AIMExpoUSA.com include comprehensive event information, a continually updated exhibitor listing, and the ability to sign up to receive event e-mails. New features and functionality are also in the works and will be added on an ongoing basis.

AIMExpo will be held on October 16-20, 2013 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. In addition to visiting AIMExpoUSA.com, keep up to date on the continued progress by visiting AIMExpo’s social media pages. “Like” the American International Motorcycle Expo on Facebook by visiting the AIMExpo page, and “Follow” on Twitter: @AIMExpo.

This is incredible. During the worst economic downturn in motorcycling history this new dealer show kicks off on the same weekend at Biketoberfest in 2013. Advanstar will host two shows, and Drag Specialties has expanded their dealer show series by four shows. The only company holding fast through the tough times is Easyriders V-Twin show in Cinci, specifically designed for the V-Twin market. Next year will be interesting to say the least.

BRAND NEW BIKERNET READER COMMENT– Bikernet Baggers Review: 2012 Harley-Davidson Switchback

http://www.bikernetbaggers.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=10380

I bought the Switchback based on so many good reviews. I am selling it back. This is not a bike for the smaller rider under 5″6′ which Harley claims it is.

The weight and seat height make it impossible to maneuver and park. Very few adjustments can be made and when asked about lowering it I was told “it’s as low as it can go” no kits available at the time my favorite comment from dealer was “take the padding out of the seat!”

The rest of the comments ring true about the bike if you are a average sized male rider!

MAKE SURE TO VOTE–  From the Desk of the President by Jay Huber

Well folks this Tuesday Nov. 6th is election day. I just wanted to send a quick reminder out there to everyone about it and make sure you get out and vote. The KMA/KBA is endorsing several of the candidates. Please be sure to check out the website at www.kmakba.com for a listing of all our endorsed candidates.

Also those candidates are making a huge push this weekend in an effort to get their supporters out to vote over the weekend. If you can help in any way then please contact the candidates local office. Most have a website for their contact info.

If you can help give a ride to folks to go vote on Tuesday who may not be able to get there on their own is another way you can help support a candidate as well. Let’s do everything we can to put the right people in office.

Make sure to attend your November and December monthly Kentucky Motorcycle Association meetings. Nominations and elections of District Officers will be taking place so if you wish to step up and take on a larger task within the organization. NOW, is the time to do so.

I wish to thank all those who have donated their time and effort to this year so far and who will continue into the next. We could not run this organization without you. We can always use some fresh faces and ideas however. So if interested then come out to your next district meeting and get involved.

We are also taking nominations for State Office holders as well. If you are interested in one of the state office positions please let me know as soon as possible. elections will be held at the Board of Directors meeting following the Freedom Fighters Forum this year.

ANOTHER BIKERNET READER COMMENT–POST HALLOWEEN THURSDAY NEWS FOR NOVEMBER 1, 2012

http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=10753

Why do exhaust manufacturers refer to true dual exhaust as true dual cross over exhaust when their is no cross over?

True or independent dual exhaust for Harleys is nothing new, H-D had them for years. The cross over from the rear exhaust to the front is supposed to aid low end torque and other issues to improve rideability.

True duals (in my humble opinion) do absolutely nothing to improve torque or horsepower.

BIKERNET INTERNATIONAL EDITOR INVESTIGATES CHINA–The photos are some of my first days walkabout back on Oct 15 or so. Champing China – about 30 miles from Guangzhou.

The main drag – a night bazaar – a hotel I wouldn’t want to stay at – city night view from my hotel. The hallway of a Karaoke lounge – pressed charcoal use for outdoor kitchens –
The lineup in uniform is a pre-work pep rally, some businesses do it every day.

Yesterday afternoon met up with Leigh from Iron Horse. We had a few afternoon drinks at some different little known places.

Back to the room for a too long nap – out at 10pm. Last night here was uneventful
Except for the falang ladyboy fight on walking street. Not too severe but a bottle thrown – broken sign he will have to pay for.

Because it was Sat and I knew the streets and Go-Go bars would be busy I went to Soi Boocow LK Metro is a street with a bunch of newer places where I sometimes see old faces.

Places like the Office – Mash – Darling – Sugar Sugar – Chamaigne varying degrees of interaction.

Did a bit of late night walking the streets and decide to go into Insomnia for the first time this trip. It used to be dark, loud and smoky – and very crowded. Well some things change.

Now, it is even louder – how that’s possible I don’t know? Still dark – but not as smoky–good.  Also very crowded with seemingly more girls to choose from, but when watching them come out in the light of day…  They look so different in the natural light. A reason I am reluctant to go there.

Well today is my last full day -and night. Leaving here about 2pm for a/p and a 6 pm flight to LAX, landing about 7:15pm.

A link to this years SEMA show in Las Vegas – some REALLY fine cars and bikes by Roland Sands, do take a look.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER ALERT, CLOCKS CHANGED SO YOU MIGHT FIND YOURSELF Battling Seasonal Depression– The shorter daylight hours of the winter season can affect sleep, productivity and state of mind. Light therapy (also known as phototherapy) may help.

It uses specially designed boxes that emit full-spectrum light to simulate sunlight. While still a relatively unknown treatment, light therapy has been shown to have positive benefits in addressing many health issues, including Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), severe premenstrual syndrome, bulimia, and as a non-drug treatment for depression.

If you have been suffering from SAD or just feel a little blue this time of year, contact your physician or healthcare provider – depression is a treatable condition; light therapy may be an option he or she recommends for you.

BIKERNET HISTORIC ARCHIVES NOW OPEN—Here’s the December issue of Mechanix Illustrated from 1958. I got a kick out of that cover.

Then we ran into this 1964 issue of Popular Mechanics. It contained a long detailed debate on gun laws after President Kennedy was killed, the Dodd law.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY WEEKEND DESPERATELY NEEDED VOCABULARY LESSON–siesta see-ES-tuh, noun:
A midday or afternoon rest or nap.

Among the Yangüesans it was customary for them and their teams to spend the siesta in places providing grass and water, and the spot where Don Quixote happened to be was very much to their liking.
–Miguel De Cervantes, Don Quixote

At noon I closed the shop, but still I was reluctant to leave those three rooms filled with merchandise, and I lay down among some grain sacks to get through the heat of the siesta.
–Isabel Allende, Eva Luna

While siesta is associated with Latin America, its origin is in the Latin sexta hora, meaning “sixth hour,” or noon.

HONDA MOVES SSV PRODUCTION STATESIDE–
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Honda is boosting its SSV presence in the United States, moving manufacturing to South Carolina from Mexico and expanding its U.S. dealer network, the company announced.

Honda of South Carolina Mfg. Inc. just marked a milestone: its 2.5 millionth ATV produced there.
Honda will add SSV production to its Florence County plant in mid-2013, a $27 million investment that is expected to generate more than 65 new jobs, the OEM stated. Honda reportedly based its decision to move production from Honda de Mexico S.A. de C.V. (HDM) to HSC on the potential for increased production and future expansion in South Carolina.

The company said it also plans to expand its SSV dealer network throughout the U.S.

“Reaching the milestone of 2.5 million units is a testament to the commitment of our associates and the entire Honda team to produce products that exceed our customer’s expectations,” said HSC plant manager Scott McKenzie. “Adding the new side-by-side production demonstrates the confidence Honda top management has in our associates and their capabilities to produce these new vehicles.”

The ATV production milestone comes 14 years after Honda began ATV production in the Timmonsville plant. HSC has manufactured many different models of ATVs since its start in 1998, including the FourTrax and SporTrax series, which the plant continues to produce today, the OEM noted.

The plant in Mexico, for its part, will boost two-wheel production to meet growing market demand for motorcycles in Mexico.

HSC is renovating an existing 94,000 sq. ft. building to receive the production equipment from the plant in Mexico, and expects to begin production in South Carolina during the second half of 2013.

“The addition of this new product will allow the Timmonsville plant to grow its commitment to the great state of South Carolina by investing in new expansion, tooling and new jobs for this area,” said Brian Newman, president of Honda South Carolina. “Production of the side-by-side also will benefit the region by increasing the volume and range of parts purchasing from domestic suppliers.”

Associates at the Timmonsville plant manufacture all Honda ATVs for the North American market and the vast majority for global sales. HSC is also the exclusive North American production site for all utility models. In addition to manufacturing, Honda has established R&D and engineering, as well as the company’s export handling operations in South Carolina, a parts distribution center and other operations that support product development, manufacturing and sales in North America.

NEED TO PEEL OUT—This week is already packed. You’ll see this stylish chopper, from Mark Daley, come together on the pages of Bikernet in the near future.

We just shot this hot café job Shovelhead from Todd’s Cycle. You’ll probably see it in a magazine before we run it. It’s only fair. Todd is moving to Hawaii in March to hide out and be creative. We will continue to work with him as he experiences a new adventure in life.

As soon as we have all the info on this sharp Softail, with Roland Sands touches, it will be a Bikernet feature bike.

I need to wrap up my Rivera Tech on the Stiffys, before Ben gets on my case. Then I’ll deliver a feature, and another book chapter. Let’s see how the week unwinds. In the meantime go for a ride, or plan something for the winter. I’m hoping to bring you some very exciting news in the next couple of weeks.

Ride forever,
