SPITFIRE BIKERNET THURSDAY NEWS

Hey,

Another wild week at the Bikernet paradise. Governor Arnold signed a toothless motorcycle noise law that will make Californians more unpopular with the rest of the country. Shit, it doesn’t even go into effect until 2013, then only affects 2013 and newer bikes. What the fuck? It will become another unenforceable harassment ordinance.

We decided we needed to sell one of our Bikernet motorcycles to support this growing empire… This bike was designed by Bandit and built by the famous Stroker’s Dallas crew, or Ma’s gang. It’s all new, maybe 20 miles on the new JIM’s stroked Shovelhead. It’s electric start, but it’s also a jockey shift, with a suicide clutch. We are asking lucky $13,000. Drop us a line if you’re serious.

The city of Los Angeles is widening the street outside the Bikernet Interplanetary Headquarters. This Catalina Hotels/Rosie’s Whorehouse building was originally constructed in 1925 and I’m not sure it’s going to survive the upheaval in the street. AT&T, the Department of Water and Power, the city of LA and the gas company are cutting trenches across four lanes and laying massive steel plates for hundreds of thundering 18-wheelers to slam over all through the night, rattling our windows. It’s strange and foreboding to watch an old whiskey bottle dance across a shelf, while I try to watch a movie and relax. I’m outta whiskey and need a refill.

My son rode to Bennett’s Performance for his Dyna dyno run with the S&S 88-97-inch big bore upgrade. The initial run was lackluster, and Eric Bennett switched the S&S Super E main jet from 70 to 74 and the results jumped to 90 horsepower and 106 pounds of torque while sporting an old thunderheader 2-into-1 exhaust.

“It should be touching on 120 horses,” Eric said and sent him to the Bikernet Headquarters for a 2-into-2 BUB system. I’ll let you know the results soon, but the system was too low for his Dyna Lowrider and he immediately drug the front pipe in quick corners or rolling onto the freeway. I contacted D&D about a higher 2-into-1 black fat cat system. More results in the near future.

BIKERNET TO FEATURE MOTORCYCLE CANNONBALL WINNER–Here’s Bradford P. Wilmarth’s 1913 Excelsior. Cameron Clement Photo. We hope to hook up with him in the next few days and bring you a complete feature. He had only one minor breakdown while rolling across the country.

Tied for First Place in Cannonball Run, Alan Travis on original 1914 Excelsior arrives at Santa Monica Finish Line…3294 miles!  And Paul Garson was there.

Alan was tied with Brad but because Brad’s bike, both Excelsiors, was one year older, a 1913, and Alan’s a 1914, so re the Cannonball rules, the win went to Brad.  One reason it pays to get older. Maybe the only one.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY INNOVATION CLASS AWARD, TRANSPARENT TOASTER– You love toast, but you always burn it? Then, this invention us for you. This transparent toaster allows you to see the bread while it is toasting so you just have to take it out when the colour is right. This idea is based on a transparent heating glass technology.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT WORD OF THE DAY– Today’s word was submitted by Nasim M.

rigmorole RIG-muh-rohl, noun:

1. An elaborate or complicated procedure.
2. Confused, incoherent, foolish, or meaningless talk.

“My dear young lady,” I groaned, “you don’t want to be stripped of every dollar for such a “rigmarole!”
— Henry James, Four Meetings

“It’s a rigmarole because the boy is a Rigmarole and we’ve come to Rigmarole Town.”
— Frank Baum, The Emerald City of Oz

Rigmarole is an unusual alteration of the Middle English phrase ragman roll, which refers to a “long list or catalog.”

SPEAKING OF GOVERNMENT RIGMAROLE– Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, “Someone may steal from it at night.”

So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, “How does the watchman do his job without instruction?” So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, “How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?” So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, “How are these people going to get paid?” So They created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer, then hired two people.

Then Congress said, “Who will be accountable for all of these people?” So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an
Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.
Then Congress said, “We have had this command in operation for one Year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cutback.” So they laid off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of
the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY….. during the Carter Administration?

Anybody?

Anything?

No?

Didn’t think so!

Bottom line. We’ve spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency….the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

Ready??
It was very simple..and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977,
TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND NOW IT’S 2010 — 33 YEARS LATER — AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS “NECESSARY” DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE! (THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, “WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?”)

33 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes — good old Federal bureaucracy.

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

Hello!! Anybody Home?

NOVEMBER, NOVEMBER, NOVEMBER!

Take out the trash!!
–from Bob Clark

SS TRIKE LEANS TOWARD GREEN WITH FUEL INJECTION– With all SS Trikes now coming with an X-Wedge engine as standard equipment, it is a natural to provide fuel injection for a smoother, more responsive power band. The obvious upgrade to fuel injection not only leads to an EPA compliant bike, but also to a smaller carbon foot print from an exciting 3- wheel mode of transportation.

Just imagine being a responsible green citizen and still having fun cruising the streets in your sporty 3-wheel SS Trike. More details at http://sstrikes.com .

IS THE MANUFACTURED CHOPPER INDUSTRY GONE–
I remember talking to you last week about bringing a law suit against the government and banks for wiping out our industry. Today the Parts Dude closed down. There are only two independent shops left in Charlotte, Ben’s V-Twin and Smileys. A way of life has pretty much been wiped out here.

It is sad for me to see so many local shops closing. At one time here in Charlotte we had a number of good shops. No one is accountable for what has happened to us and our industry.

Here is a list of shops in Charlotte that have been forced to close due to the economy. This supports the idea of a law suit against the government and banks.

Stealth Bike Works
Down South Customs
Zycles
RUA Cycles
TCX(The Cycle Exchange)
Parts Dude
The Chrome Stop

A whole local industry wiped out. A way of life gone.

WORLDS FASTEST LAWNMOWER– American Bobby Cleveland takes his lawnmower up to 96 mph to set a new world record.

Eclipsing the recent efforts of British driver Don Wales, American Bobby Cleveland claims to have set a new world speed record – for driving a lawnmover.

Cleveland recorded an average speed of 96.5mph over two runs on Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats on his custom built 104+ mower.

This beat the 87mph target set by Wales (nephew of Donald Campbell and grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell) at Pendine Sands, Wales, earlier this year.

Although shy of the 104mph target Cleveland was aiming for, the record is nonetheless impressive given that the rules stipulate the machine used must be built primarily from lawnmower parts.

AGAIN FROM THE VAST BIKERNET UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, POLITICAL SCIENCE LAB– Freedom. Webster’s tells us it is “the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action.” It is a vague thought that we rarely find tangible. We fight for it, die for it but do we truly know what it really is. Freedom is a fluid concept. Everyday I go to work to put food on the table for my family and myself, a daily drudge that I’m accustom too but for people who are oppressed, who have had their rights and freedom limited or taken away, do they feel any different? Does a Chinese farmer working in the field to put food on his own table realize that his government has taken away his freedoms? Chances are he gives it about as much thought about freedom as I do.

Freedom and what it means to us changes over time. Freedom comes in many forms. Freedom from parents, freedom of speech, freedom of thought. Freedom, the intangible brass ring just out of our reach. When we are young freedom is being able to cross the street on our own. Later freedom is signing for a driver’s license, or Freedom to come and go. Freedom to write words and thoughts. Freedom to make our own decisions whether good or bad, they are still our decisions, decisions that may set us free, decisions that may condemn us to a life behind bars.

It is something that we take for granted forgetting that the blood of our fathers and our children had been spilled for it. Freedom has to be maintained constantly, tended to like a fine garden. Without vigilance, our freedoms are eroded away everyday, overgrown with the weeds of regulation, control, and legislation. I have been very blessed to be born in a country where freedom is something assumed. I rarely think about where that freedom came from or where it is going. Perhaps it is time to change my thinking and get involved in the preservation of Freedom.

RUSH RACING PRODUCTS COMES TO BIKERNET–RUSH Racing Products is a rapidly growing global leader in the aftermarket exhaust industry, and we have received recognition from trade magazines as being the best in quality and service. We are continually raising the bar with cutting-edge technology and design. We take pride in the fact that we were the first company to introduce an all one-piece muffler shell; this allowed us to eliminate any weld at the inlet, which yields significant improvements in durability and appearance. We have also advanced the use of ceramic coatings to a whole new level by coating both the outside and inside of our head pipes; this reduces the temperature by several hundred degrees, resulting in a significant reduction in the amount of heat that is transmitted to the rider.

RUSH was the first in the industry to offer interchangeable baffles designed for specific performance and sound levels. This feature is huge for the motorcycle owner because it allows them to change the sound and performance without purchasing another new set of mufflers. We have taken this philosophy into the production of our full systems allowing for interchangeable baffles here as well.

It is our intent to deliver on the needs of the motorcyclist by bringing a variety of products, finish options and accessories that allow your bike to be as individual as you are. We back all of our products with a one-year warranty against manufacturers defects. RUSH Racing Products compliments all of the above with the best customer service and Tech support in the industry. We are truly customer driven.

Our standards today are our competitor’s standards tomorrow!

ARNOLD SIGNS THE STICKER MATCHING BILL, SB435 INTO LAW–
Nice.
My compliments to the one million riders of California for screwing this one up, royally….but it goes deeper than that.

I am a registered Republican and a motorcycle rider that has been betrayed by a guy with an (R) after his name…who happens to ride, well, at least OWN a motorcycle or two…I don’t think he really rides….or hangs out with “real” riders or carries tools or changes his own oil….I think it’s all about being seen for this guy.

As for SB 435, I’m pretty sure not ONE (R) legislator voted for this bill in any committee – or in either house….which pretty much tells you which team is FOR Riders “Rights”….and which team is AGAINST Rider’s “Rights”.

Oh…that’s right….Ah-nuld’s “R” stands for “RINO”…Republican In Name Only…what a bitter disappointment this schmuckinegger schmuckinator has been to the riders of California.

Some “Biker” he turned out to be….more like the “Poseur ” I always imagined him to be….the typical Hollywood faker…or, I guess you could call it, “acting”.
I don’t need a group of people around me to enhance my love for/of riding…like any true addict, you know you have an addiction problem when you find yourself drinking or RIDING alone.

I used to like Ah-nuld…back in the bodybuilding/terminator days….but since Conan the Destroyer, Terminator 3, that Danny DeVito movie, splitting his lip without an M1 license on a sidehack, and especially after signing SB 435, I’ve got nuthin’ nice to say about him, anymore…..

…..unless he somehow miraculously issues that directive I’ve been askin’ for, for years, directing the CHP (submissive functionary of the executive branch ) to establish criteria which would declare that the only “legal” helmet in California is that helmet which is MANUFACTURED in California – by California workers.

The CHP is charged with establishing the criteria for “legal” helmets. The key phrase in VC 27802 ; “regulations shall include, but are not limited to” points out that those subjective criteria are amiable to change.

I’ve always looked at it as an economic stimulus/jobs bill type thing.

And due to the fact that nobody manufactures helmets in California, there can be no such thing as a “legal” helmet. No list – no law type thinkin’…those BOLT™ guys got somethin’ there.

Perhaps now everyone will appreciate the merit of Doug’s “Ride 2 Repeal” plan ( www.ride2repeal.com ) ….as far as I’m concerned, it’s the ONLY game in town.

To waste your time on any other project, for the next 34 days, 7 hours and 35 minutes – at this time – election time….shows a complete lack of understanding of exactly where our biggest problem lies; SACRAMENTO!

It ain’t that hard to figure out.

It’s quite obvious, politicians don’t listen to polls, petitions, letters, faxes or phone calls from the public. They listen to the select few people that got ’em into office. That union. That environmental group. That abortion group. That pharmaceutical company. That big corporation. And…THAT LITTLE CAMPAIGN WORKER. I’ve known it since the “old guard” taught me that back in the 90’s. The legends; Lax, Oz, Milky, Nemecek, Paliwoda, Theodore, Cromwell, Daniels, Schneider, Rinkes, Pruitt, Thomas, Daley, VanDerWeyde, Getty, Howell and yes, even NY Myke, are just a FEW of the names I can think of – off the top of my head. Somewhere along the way, we lost touch with reality and got lazy, soft and weak….and we wonder why we are where we are.

As far as I’m concerned, the Ride 2 Repeal plan is the ONLY way to effectuate the change we seek…as mentioned before, it ain’t a new plan to us “old-timers”, it’s simply dusting off the OLD ABATEPAC ways….and it’s so damn simple it’s ridiculous……

Quality, not quantity. Less moving parts. No-nonsense. Common sense. Tastes Great. Less Filling.

So, visit www.ride2repeal.com ….pick a race and a candidate, take a shower, dress respectfully and RIDE yer ass down to campaign headquarters and make yourself known to the candidate and campaign manager, but more importantly, the STAFF.

The politician is usually clueless…most often, a puppet…often doing what the party chair or the Chief of Staff tells him/her to do, everyday. Walk here. Go there. Say this. Wear that. Don’t do that. VOTE THIS WAY. You need to get your hands on some of those puppet strings.

The key to reaching ANY politician is having an excellent rapport with his/her staff…so you treat the staff like GOLD. As an individual, you buy the staff lunch. Have pizza parties at the district office. Give them tickets to the opera, fix their car, babysit their kids, walk their dog, feed their cat…..if the staff likes you, your message/pink memo makes it to the big guy’s desk. If you come across as trash, that’s where your message ends up; IN the trash. Even misanthropes (like me) can make brownie-points by doing good deeds for the staff, and always showing them courtesy and respect.

I just wanted to put in my two centavos worth – at the Canadian exchange rate.

This advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Don’t bother emailin’ me…..I’m no longer a slave to my email, nor do I monitor it….and I’m NOT an active participant of your movement, anymore…I’ve put myself in the penalty box because far too many people just don’t “get it” – and I just don’t have the time/energy to fight or explain it, anymore….there are bigger issues at hand…..cos there ain’t gonna be any good ridin’ if we ain’t got a COUNTRY to ride in.

TEA, anyone?

JOEL’S PROJECT UPDATE–  Here are some preliminary pics of my current project.

The assembled from parts bike that looks like a Fat Boy was a gift.

I went to school at AMI (before it became WyoTech) in extremely adverse finanical and generally fucked up life conditions. A family in New Smyrna took my father and I in on the word of a friend, never having met us. They took us in and gave us an air conditioned room and fed us and gassed our cars for three months until I could secure us a way out.
They bought that “Fat Boy” and I would take it to school and fix it as partial payment for their kindness (it could never be repaid).
The father and oldest son split all the costs on it and shared riding time. Five years later the older son became a single dad and didn’t want to ride anymore, and his dad didn’t like riding without his ol lady, and she just wanted to play tennis and drink. They knew they’d never get what they paid for it and felt if they were going to give it away it should go to someone who would ride it and take care of it.

Now it’s in my shop.

I’m entering it in the Easyriders 99 Crafty Customs contest. Having to keep the costs down, if you know anyone who may have something to donate to the project I’d appreciate a lead.

I still need forward controls, hand controls, seat, two piece bob tank dash filler, flush mount fuel caps for two piece bob tanks, a late model street glide fender (or and touring width and mount) and a late model softail (non Fat Boy) rear fender.

Have paint, machining, and powder-coat covered.

CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD ATTACKS LOOPHOLE–The CA Air Resource Board thinks our vehicles are a loophole in the law and want to “plug” it through their smog program. The Attorney General’s office wants to get at us for registration violations and charge us for back fees, fines & interest or put our vehicles in the crusher. Remaining silent, dumb & happy is not going to work anymore. The Eco-Idiots have finally gotten the power they wanted.

The Air Board now has the power to set its own regulations under AB-32 the Global Climate Bill and they get to keep all the fees, fine’s & any other monies they acquire too. That is why they are aggressively chasing business & jobs out of CA at the highest rate in the state’s history.

CARB is not hurting for money like the General Fund is. This is also why CA’s unemployment rate is much higher than the national rate. This will also enhance revenues declines, fiscal budget problems, and the growing recession. As you can see the problems affecting our hobby are the same ones that are affecting our state.

Nevada advertizes on TV to get CA business to come to the desert. I went to a car show in Orange County and parked next to a guy sitting by himself. As I was alone also, I set up my chair so we could talk. He told me this would be his last car show in CA. I asked him “why was that?” He told me he was in the Bent Tube Plating business and was moving to Nevada. I asked him what he meant by bent tubing? He replied; he manufactured aircraft & mechanical parts and other items like outdoor furniture. He said he ran a very clean operation and was very surprised when the state came in, inspected, and gave him a list of violations. The cost to comply was in the six digits, but he wanted his business to be in compliance so he met their criteria. The next year they came in and gave him another list. He then met with his C.P.A. and business advisors and they came to the conclusion that he would be out of business in five years. He contacted Nevada and they found him a new facility, paid for half of the move and gave him some tax breaks. Here’s the best part; 200 of his 250 employees went with him. Two hundred more houses on the market.

Assemblyman Dan Logue sponsored a bill to repeal AB-32; it never made it through the Environmental Committee. I’ll bet you didn’t know there was an Environmental Committee. He then set about a referendum and we now have Proposition 23 on the ballot. Bravo Mr. Assemblyman! VOTE FOR PROP 23!!!

I believe the A.G.s office has backed off somewhat. They do not have the resources to prosecute each and every case. Most automotive cases are low dollar and not worth their time. They pass these on to the local D.A.s and the local D.A.s have bigger fish to fry also. Big buck motor homes may have some problems though.

The inflationary effect of this nonsense is also going to be disastrous to our wallets. The Air Board is attacking the trucking industry with all kinds of new regulations that are increasing their expenses dramatically. I have a good friend in the Trucking business and another in the Semi-Trailer Repair business. They have told me the cost to do what CARB is making them do is big bucks. These costs will be passed on and added to the price of every product that is moved to market by a truck.

STREET VIBRATIONS FALL RALLY 2010, September 22 – 26– I rode up to Reno this past weekend for the annual Street Vibrations event. This year we wanted to stay closer to the action so we booked rooms downtown to later find out that wasn’t where the action was at. They changed the format to the dismay of many attending the event to Sparks. What a surprise to find out when visiting the downtown area. Very few things were happening downtown.

We got into town on Friday after taking a beautiful ride up 50 with our first stop being the Strawberry lodge for some drinks. Then we rode through South Lake Tahoe and on to Carson City Harley-Davidson. The dealership had a good number of vendors, great food, live music, and Jason Pullen doing his thing. After a few hours there we headed for downtown. Later that night I got to see some old friends at an annual party at Flash and Anna’s house. I always enjoy spending time and catching up with this group.

The next day I rode up to Virginia City and had a great time watching and taking in the best part of the weekend event. I always enjoy this event but not sure the changed format was the best thing for those who attended. I sure got a lot of feedback from the biker community and I didn’t hear anything positive about the change. It may have been good for the vendors, but not for those who make this run great. Just my two cents well enjoy the pics…

LATEST BOOK FROM MOTORBOOKS– I recently sent you a copy of our newest addition to the FIRST GEAR series. It is called Harley-Davidson Museum Masterpieces and is written by Dain Gingerelli and photography by Randy Leffingwell (and licensed by Harley-Davidson). If you’ve had any time to peruse this book, I hope you agree that with its small package, over 230 color photos, “did you know” boxes, etc. it is the perfect book for not only motorcycle riders but the youngsters in their lives.

Although the FIRST GEAR was not originally intended to be for a younger audience, Motorbooks has had great success with the series among the children and grandchildren of enthusiasts. It is of utmost importance that the people in the hobby actively work to engage younger enthusiasts so that we can guarantee future generations of enthusiasts and I believe this book is a good tool in this effort.

These books are a great way to introduce the next generation of gearheads to the hobby and a great way to encourage some of those reluctant readers to pick up a book… what early-teen doesn’t want to read and learn about motorcycles?!

KENTUCKY MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION WANTS TO SAY THANKS–  Just wanted to send a quick shout out and huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended this year’s State Party. We had a few more than last year and the weather was a whole lot better. Being a KBA party we couldn’t escape the rain entirely but it was in and out quick enough. A special thanks to Six Pac and Mountain Man for taking care of the beer booth, Tommy Williams and Dist 12 for the poker run and events and Richard Houchens and the other folks from Dist 9 for getting the band and extra tent together for us. Once again the staff at the campground was great and treated us like royalty.

Look for it to happen again next year but this time we will be sure to check the calendar a little closer so as not to conflict with the Harley Drags next year. So go ahead and make plans for late September and we will see you there then.

BIG FAT TITS FROM KRYLON JOHN, WHAT COULD BE BETTER– Big fat tits are in again! There’s a new magazine out intended especially for fat broads. I’d heard it was coming down the pike, and I was expecting to see a digest of sorts for Henrietta Hippo types packed full of bon-bon reviews and the like, but it appears I was wrong. According to a story I lifted off Bo Sacks digital newsletter for media types written by a Daily Mail Reporter here’s what the rag is going to be about.

Please bear-in mind I whacked the shit out of it… er, I mean edited some of the content to serve my personal agenda. “ Classy: The magazine’s mission is to make larger women feel positive about the way they look. In her first editorial, Ms Thomason, who worked as a body image life coach for five years, explained that one of the magazine’s mission statements was to ‘help end the current harsh visual obsession’ suffered by curvier women.”

I think by curvier she means female human bi-peds that are starting to grow a second set of breasts on their back, an anal cleft deep enough to cultivate mushrooms, and with curves in places that mentally healthy men didn’t know existed. Anyways the story went on to say, “All the models featured in the magazine’s fashion and lingerie shoots will be larger than a Size 14, and the magazine’s editor, Sue Thomason, has promised ‘no airbrushing out bits of their bodies’. Ms Thomason, a Size 18 herself, said: ‘If you’re a woman over Size 14, you’re likely to be stuck for something to read that doesn’t make you feel like you’re too big or “wrong” because you’re not a Size Zero. ‘We want our readers to know that they don’t need to change their appearance to ‘fit in’ or be truly happy. No model under size 14 will get into the magazine. ‘We have normal interviews with women who happen to be size 14-16.

Publisher Ronnie Ajoku said: ‘This is a classy, non-pornographic magazine.”

Kind Señors, and Señoritas, as a contributing editor for Biker and In The Wind magazines www.bikermag.com, I’m here to tell you we don’t discriminate against anyone, and we’re non-pornographic too. It doesn’t matter if a skinny little spinner with tits like a boy, or a giant moose in a 5XL moo-moo wants to get in the magazine naked, all they have to do is email, or send us a picture. If it’s something real nasty that we can’t publish, I guarantee at the very least we’ll pass it around the office.

The mini-bike sitting in my office is a 1964 Bug Super Flea that came powered with a Hodaka Ace 80 motor. My dad bought it for me brand-new and I’ve restored it three times since. I still have to mount the handlebars, gas tank, and then get the seat upholstered. Bug Engineering is still in business, and I talked to the guy that built it while I was establishing the bike’s provenance. I learned that fancy term from some yuppie fuck that wanted to purchase it, but didn’t believe me about its origins.

I’m starting to thin out the herd, so if anyone wants to buy it, I want $3,500. I’m hoping next week I’ll be able to post some progress shots of the ’77 FLH I’m building to show at the Easyriders show held January 8, 2011 at the LA Convention Center. In honor of the ER show moving from Pomona to LA, I’m building the bike South Central style, and named it Afrodesiac.

FLAT RAT RACING CHECKS IN– Man, I just read your Bonneville story…..FACK!…sounds like a rough trip, but it also sounds like you came out of it with a direction for next time….which is the sign of a true racer sir!

I just got a race motor running last nite. It’s my backup, but it runs good, and will put me on the track. Four straight days of vintage motorcycle racing next week.

To start things off are the WERA Grand National Finals at Road Atlanta. Us Vintage scum run on Thursday, Oct 7. FlatRat Racing will be there in force, with my teammate, Dean Middleton set to claim 2 National Titles. He has been fast all year, and has earned it…..the man can ride, the man can wrench, and the man can win. I on the other hand, had a rough year, and only made two races after destroying a motor at Daytona. DEAN MIDDLETON, 2010 WERA NATIONAL # 1 in Vintage 1. He has to enter, start, and finish the Vintage 2 race and will earn a SECOND National # 1. BRAVO DEAN!

Here is more info about the WERA GNF. A lot of these guys are the future (or current) stars of motorcycle racing.

http://maps.wera.com/schedule/gnf.asp?x=1098 and more on Road Atlanta http://www.roadatlanta.com/event_detail.lasso?-Token.eventfile=ev_wera_gnf.lasso&-Token.id=11

On Friday, us Vintage guys move west about 2 hours to the Barber Vintage Festival, near Birmingham, Al…. Practice day on Friday, and a full racing schedule on Saturday and Sunday, Oct 9 and 10.

This is turning into a world class event, at one of the top facilities in the world. Truly a gathering of some of the best people and vintage machinery in the country, and beyond. Not only Roadracing, but vintage motocross and the likes, as well. It is the season finale for the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Assoc (AHRMA), and Championships will be decided. More info here http://www.barbervintagefestival.org/ and for racing info http://www.ahrma.org/index.htm

FlatRats will be there…not running for titles, but to have some fun racing. Any Bikernet reader is welcome in our pits, come by and say hello.

Hey Bandit, I know old Lucky (Art Perry, correct?) was talking about running AHRMA motocross. I haven’t heard from him in months. I hope he makes it out.

Fuller HotRods will be there in force. I know Bryan has a vendor spot reserved, and we always have a good time at this event.

Any motorcyclist in the southeast during this week needs to attend one, or both of these events….neither will disappoint.

Wish us luck!

BROUGHT TO YOU BY BIKERNET INSURANCE–

MedPay: Medical payments limit on your motorcycle insurance policy.

Do you know what it covers?

As you know, we at Bikernet Insurance love insurance so that you don’t have to. One of the motorcycle insurance coverages we get excited about is called “MedPay”.  It’s a very important coverage that is way undersold by most insurance companies, especially those selling directly to motorcyclists on the internet.  Here’s what you need to know about this coverage.

Medical payments insurance covers medical expenses for you and your passenger.

You know the injuries that can occur in an accident. Big or small, they ain’t gonna be pretty. This coverage covers the medical expenses you and your passenger incur as a result of a motorcycle accident.  In some instances, funeral expenses may also be covered up to the policy limit purchased.

Who is covered and when are you covered?

There may also be coverage if, as a pedestrian, a vehicle hits you. MedPay may also cover you and your family members when injured while riding in someone else’s vehicle or when a vehicle hits them while they are on foot or bicycling.  This insurance covers you regardless of who is at fault.

Be aware of time limits for treatment and be careful of MedPay limits that are too low.

MedPay is often limited to medical treatment received within the first three years after an accident and is limited to a specific dollar limit.  In some states, MedPay only applies after other medical insurance is exhausted. Unfortunately, medical insurance of any type is expensive and we see many of our biker friends by low limits below $5,000.  This will barely cover your road rash in a hospital emergency room.  We always recommend your purchasing at least $10,000 in MedPay limits and more if you can afford it.

Here’s how the coverage works.

Say you sustain $10,000 in injuries as a result of a motorcycle accident and you do not have any health insurance from your employer or through private purchase.  With MedPay insurance coverage on your motorcycle insurance policy, you can use this coverage for the treatment of your injuries. If you purchased a $10,000 limit, your medical expenses will be mostly paid for. If you purchased a $5,000 MedPay limit, your motorcycle insurance policy will pay $5,000 and you will be required to pay the other $5,000 in medical bills out or your own pocket. Ouch!

This is a critical coverage for you if you do not have your own health insurance policy through work or through private insurance.

Most insurance policies do not provide large amounts of medical payments since most people carry health insurance either through private insurance purchases or the coverage is provided through their work. We recommend you  buy the highest medical payments limit available on your motorcycle insurance policy if you do not carry other health insurance.

As usual, specific coverage is limited to the terms and conditions contained in any specific insurance policy you buy so you always want to make sure your read your policy and have your insurance agent explain the key clauses to you.

Ride safe out there. We care about you.

INCREDIBLE NEWS–The world is in financial and regulatory disarray. Can we just stop, have a beer, sex, go for a ride and regroup. There’s got to be a better way and a way to eliminate the control freaks. California is becoming the School Marm state.

Fuck it. We have some bitchin’ stuff headed your way, and if tomorrow we decide to escape to Nevada or Arizona, and set up Fort Bikernet, so we can worship redheads and undisturbed riding freedom, you’ll be the first to know and be invited to our first barbecue.

In the meantime we’re about to feature Steve Storz new Sportster Conversion and Randy’s LA Calendar Show Bobber. I would like to bring you a feature on a completely handmade Excelsior rejuvenation.

Plus tomorrow we’re putting wrenches to a Zippers, Bub, and Performance Machine 2010 Touring model tech with Jeremiah Soto, the master of giant brass porthole installation in the Bikernet Headquarters. We’ll throw some shots of high performance Porthole installation into this tech. Hang on!

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
