Spring Is Sprung Sunday Post for April 1, 2012

Hey,

As you know attitude is everything. You can be poor with a damn good outlook on life, and you can be a rich SOB, and be as miserable as a death row inmate. So today, I’m poor with positive mind-set.

This weekend I came to grips with my daunting shop project list. Tomorrow, I will launch my Bonne Belle tech, and at the end I innumerate the projects ahead, like modifying the bars, making a chain guard, and a chain tensioner, and mounting the Street Walker fairing, adjusting and mounting the seat, the rear fender, and making a inner-primary to engine mounting system.

That’s just one bike. I have as many projects on the XS Yamaha, and I need to mount the Le Pera seat pan on my son’s Mudflap girl FXR. Then Buster arrived with a busted muffler bracket for the Shrunken FXR. He rides it daily. The pressure was getting me down, so I slapped myself in the face, downed a shot of whiskey, and re-tuned my thinking. I decided that I will hit one project a day, and not even attempt to grapple with all the projects at once. So far this weekend it’s working, and I finished two projects handily.

At the end of this mess, I’ll give you the Bikernet rundown for this coming week. Again, we will try to launch one story a day. In between bike and content projects, I can work out, drink whiskey, dream of redheads, or fool with the dogs in the sun. Wait, there’s more…

ANOTHER BIKERNET AFFAIR UNVEILED–
A woman was having a passionate affair with an Irish inspector from a pest-control company.. One afternoon they were carrying on in the bedroom together when her husband arrived home unexpectedly.

‘Quick,’ said the woman to the lover, ‘into the closet!’ and she pushed him in the closet, stark naked.

The husband, however, became suspicious and after a search of the bedroom discovered the man in the closet..

‘Who are you?’ he asked him.

‘I’m an inspector from Bugs-B-Gone,’ said the exterminator.

‘What are you doing in there?’ the husband asked.

‘I’m investigating a complaint about an infestation of moths,’ the man replied.

‘And where are your clothes?’ asked the husband.

The man looked down at himself and said, ‘Those little bastards!’

Wife: ‘What are you doing?’

Husband: Nothing.

Wife: ‘Nothing….? You’ve been reading our marriage certificate for an hour.’

Husband: ‘I was looking for the expiration date.’

WRITE A LETTER FOR FREEDOM TO THE GOVERNOR OF MICHIGAN– “Call to Action” Motorcycle Helmet Law Modification in Michigan ABATE of Michigan would like the help of all motorcyclists in their fight for freedom.

Editors Note: Bikers from across the country wrote to our Governor and Legislators during our Helmet law fight. It is now time to return the favor. Please read below and please contact the Michigan Governor to express your support for the change in Michigan’s helmet law to that of freedom of choice.

Here’s what Bandit wrote:

Dear Governor,

We live is such interesting times. Freedom seems to be a lost spirit, replaced by more and more stringent regulations. Too often these regulatory bodies become administered by control freaks, then they become corrupt.

In this rare case you have the opportunity to say once more, “Freedom is important.” Sometimes I wonder if we are sending troops abroad to fight for freedom, or are we delivering the largest regulatory body in the world to other lands.

I’m not asking for helmets to disappear. I’m asking for the freedom to make a choice whether to wear a helmet or not, and whether to wear a full-face helmet, or a small light one. I just want this government to recognize freedom once more, and you have that opportunity by supporting SB291.

We could line up safety experts who would swear by helmets. We could also line up folks who will testify that helmets caused them to have devastating accidents. We can prove that helmet give riders a false sense of security, while limiting peripheral vision. If we want to save lives, motorcycle training, public awareness, and distracted driver restrictions are the key.

All the best,

AUSTRALIAN LEGAL ROADBLOCK–
ANGRY police have warned Members of Parliament that they are threatening public safety by delaying or changing anti-bikie laws.

Police, it is understood, are not able to issue firearm prohibition orders against at least five known criminals because of a deadlock in the Upper House on the use of criminal intelligence.

The Police Association has launched an intense campaign against Liberal and independent MPs who are supporting the changes, saying they are frustrated and hamstrung by delays.

PA president Mark Carroll has sent a six-page letter to all MPs outlining the police position on several Bills that, it says, are necessary to effectively police serious and organised crime in SA.

They are especially angry at changes to a proposed law on the use of criminal intelligence.

That allows police to use it to block someone getting a liquor license, but they cannot use it to take out a firearms prohibition order against a bikie gang member.

Mr Carroll told The Advertiser: “It just seems everything is getting lost in the Legislative Council. It is important that police have the right tools to do their job.”

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER DR. WEIL FINDINGS–
4 Ways to Beat Pessimism.

Did you know pessimism has been linked to a higher risk of dying before age 65? On the other hand, expressing positive emotions, such as optimism, is associated with a variety of health benefits: lowered production of the stress hormone cortisol, better immune function, and reduced risk of chronic diseases. If you are stressed-out or anxious, which can be either a cause or an effect of a pessimistic outlook, try the following:

1. Take care of yourself by eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly and getting adequate sleep.

2. Express your emotional reactions honestly so you can effectively deal with what’s bothering you.

3. Confide in someone – your mate, a good friend or a trusted relative.

4. View the cup as half full instead of half empty.

BAD COPS TACTICS–
Bad Cops and their tactics need to be exposed. Conn. state police memo to troopers: Issue more tickets to compete with other officers

Alexis Levinson

If you’re a resident of Connecticut, pay extra special attention to feeding your parking meter and using your turn signal today: Connecticut state police troopers are being encouraged to ticket as many people as possible Friday, according to an internal memo obtained by WTNH-TV8 in New Haven.

In the memo, a lieutenant challenges his troopers to outdo their colleagues in a different troop.

“[W]e have to issue at least 60 infractions / Misdemeanors [sic] each shift for a total of 180 infractions in order to outperform both Troop F and Troop G,” the memo from Lt. Anthony Schirillo commands.

“The back story is this,” the memo goes on to explain. “One day Troop F issued 301 tickets. Troop G responded by issuing 345 in one day. We can do better.”

Schirillo wrote that his troop should pull ahead of both of the other troops, proportionally to the number of members in each unite. He added, though, that he was not opposed to a straight-up win.

“NOTE if we happen to issue 350 tickets in one day that would be stellar,” the memo concludes.

The memo was sent on March 29 just before noon, according to the email time stamp.

A spokesman for the Connecticut state police, Lt. Paul Vance, denied that there was any sort of quota system in effect when asked by WTNH. But the station obtained a separate memo that suggests otherwise.

“The master sergeant and I will buy pizza for the shift with the highest total,” that memo reportedly promises.

THE SORE LOSER PROJECT REPORT–
I have been moving forward with my motorcycle “Sore Loser”. My friends at Hellbilly Cycle lowered my frontend, synced the carbs, and added some new enduro tires.

I got all my mid controls welded and mounted and gutted the OEM battery box. I plan on mounting the electrics under the seat, cut a bunch of stock tabs off, add some 14-inch shocks, rear pegs, risers, and finish making the taillight.

My Wife and I are expecting our 4th child in May, and now that there is a light at the end of the tunnel with this bike, she is really looking forward to being able to ride it with me.

AUSTRALIAN POLICE DISMANTLE NOTORIOUS BIKIE GANG–
ALMOST 1700 bikies have been arrested and more than 3800 charges laid during a three-year operation that also dismantled the Notorious outlaw motorcycle gang.

The NSW Police Gang’s Squad launched Strike Force Raptor in March 2009 in response to escalating violence between rival bikie gangs.

Police say a total of 1696 people were arrested and charged with 3857 offences including riot and affray, assault causing grievous bodily harm, assaulting police and manufacturing prohibited drugs.

Also seized were 387 firearms, $2.2 million in cash and numerous illegal drugs, while four clandestine laboratories were put out of business.

Police say the Notorious gang, responsible for many public shootings and other criminal activities, was also dismantled as a direct result of their operations.

“This has been a highly-successful operation and the results demonstrate the need for us to keep the pressure on outlaw motorcycle gangs and their associates,” commander of the Gangs Squad, Detective Superintendent Arthur Katsogiannis, said

TWO FLORIDA COPS SUSPENDED–
New police chief punishes cops accused of drinking in a patrol car, speeding on stretch of South Beach

Two more Miami Beach cops caught behaving bad¬ly in the public eye have been relieved of duty. One is accused of drinking, the other of recklessly speed¬ing down a sandy stretch of beach. Officers Eric Domin¬guez and Michael Veski are the latest in a list of Beach officers whose conduct have been publicly caught on video or seen by wit¬nesses — later to the em¬barrassment of the force.

New Miami Beach Po¬lice Chief Ray Martinez said Friday the recent ac¬cusations against the offi¬cers were so “egregious” that he relieved them of du¬ty pending the outcome of ongoing internal affairs in¬vestigations.

Martinez, who was sworn in on March 23, has vowed to reform the taint¬ed department, whose rep¬utation has taken a hit as a result of a litany of cases involving rogue cops. The officers will be paid while under suspension.

Dominguez was cap¬tured on video, posted on YouTube, driving his squad car so fast on a sandy South Beach stretch this month that, at one point, the car goes airborne.

His lights and sirens ac¬tivated, Dominguez was re¬sponding to an “emergency police assist” call. The beach was crowded with tourists.

Several years ago, the city enacted strict rules prohibiting officers from driving recklessly follow¬ing several serious acci¬dents in which sunbathers were killed or injured by police officers driving on the sand.

Internal affairs investi¬gators also are looking into allegations that Officer Mi¬chael Veski, who was off duty, was drinking a beer while riding as a passenger in his own marked squad car. Investigators still are trying to determine who was driving. A witness told police that he saw Veski’s patrol car parked in front of David’s Cafe on Collins Avenue last weekend.

The witness, a postal in¬spector who was also off duty, said he observed Ves¬ki exit the passenger’s side of the car with a beer in his hand, then enter the restau¬rant.

Veski, a seven-year-vet¬eran, was demoted from his sergeant’s post. Alex Bello, president of Miami Beach’s Fraternal Order of Police, said he was “extremely disappointed” that the officers were re¬moved from duty based on unproven allegations. Ves¬ki, he said, had not even had a chance to give investiga¬tors a statement.

BIKERNET BLONDE FILES–
Two sisters, one blond and one brunette, inherit the family ranch. Unfortunately, after just a few years, they are in financial trouble…

In order to keep the bank from repossessing the ranch, they need to purchase a bull so that they can breed their own stock. Upon leaving, the brunette tells her sister, ‘When I get there, if I decide to buy the bull, I’ll contact you to drive out after me and haul it home.’

The brunette arrives at the man’s ranch, inspects the bull, and decides she wants to buy it. The man tells her that he will sell it for $599, no less.

After paying him, she drives to the nearest town to send her sister a telegram to tell her the news.

She walks into the telegraph office, and says, ‘I want to send a telegram to my sister telling her that I’ve bought a bull for our ranch and I need her to hitch the trailer to our pickup truck and drive out here so we can haul it home.’

The telegraph operator explains that he’ll be glad to help her, then adds, it will cost 99 cents a word.

Well, after paying for the bull, the brunette realizes that she’ll only be able to send her sister one word. After a few minutes of thinking, she nods and says, ‘I want you to send her the word ‘comfortable.’

The operator shakes his head. ‘How is she ever going to know that you want her to hitch the trailer to your pickup truck and drive out here to haul that bull back to your ranch if you send her just the word ‘comfortable?’

The brunette explains, ‘My sister’s blonde.

BIKERNET WEEKEND GUN NUT REPORT–
NRA Will Appeal Decision Denying Right-to-Carry Outside the Home– Late today, a federal district court in Illinois wrongly ruled that the Second Amendment does not protect a right to carry firearms for self-protection outside the home. The NRA funded this challenge to Illinois’ ban on citizens’ ability to carry firearms legally outside their homes and businesses for self-defense, and will also be supporting an immediate appeal to the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals-and to the Supreme Court if necessary.

The decision in the case of Shepard v. Madigan misreads the Supreme Court’s Second Amendment decisions and will continue to deprive law-abiding Illinoisans of the right to protect themselves effectively against crime on the streets. It also conflicts with a growing body of case law elsewhere in the country, where courts have increasingly recognized that the right to bear arms for self-defense doesn’t end at Americans’ front doors.

“The NRA’s legal efforts will not end until the right to carry firearms for self-defense is fully recognized throughout our land,” said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox.

For more information on this and other critical Second Amendment cases, please sign up for our free Legal Update newsletter at www.nraila.org/legalupdate.

Obama Whispers Speak Loudly: By now, most of you have heard about President Barack Obama’s unfortunate “slip-up” this week. The President was speaking with outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ahead of a summit meeting on nuclear security. Apparently, neither realized that their conversation was being picked up by a live microphone.
Barack Obama is clearly one of the most anti-gun politicians in history. It is difficult to imagine a more far-reaching threat to our Second Amendment rights than Obama as a second-term president, especially considering his potential to appoint one or more Supreme Court Justices during a second term.

Can’t Trust the BATFE Brass: Since the story first broke, we have featured many articles on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ now-infamous “Fast and Furious” gun-walking operation. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the Obama administration have yet to come clean on their role in the ill-fated scheme, engineered by Holder’s Justice Department to blame our Second Amendment freedoms for Mexican drug cartel crime. They have stonewalled and backpedaled at every turn, making it hard to believe what little information has been wrung out of them during investigative hearings.

SAMSON EXHAUST TESTIMONIAL–
Here is a testimonial from a HD Forums member who bit the bullet and purchased the dB killer baffles. He is now a very happy camper.

Well I did not care for the way the Samson Stock Baffles sounded at road speeds..

That meant I needed to “tune” the sound again because the stock baffles in the Samson’s were LOUD (but not as loud as the BSS stock baffles). I wrapped the Samson’s but that did not do much. Sort of like my experience with wrapping the BSS baffles. When I pulled them out later, I found that i had blown the packing out in several places even though I had wrapped it in SS wire!!!!

So I needed to add some “quiet” baffles to the rather large (4 inch) high performance Silver Bullets used with the Samson dual headers. BCT said I could put their baffles in the head pipes just in front of the stock baffles but I did not think much of that idea.

I contacted Samson and they said to use their dB Killer Baffles which are expensive….. I bit the bullet (no pun intended) and bought two from Dennis Kirk at decent discount and installed them.

All I can say is that Samson named these things Correctly!!!! Still has a comfortable rumble at idle and does “bark” just a little when you roll-on but they are absolutely super at road speeds. They are the perfect match for my Softail bagger now….The table below shows the results measured against all the mods.

THIS WEEK’S RUNDOWN–So, with an attitude-adjustment I discussed shop projects in the lead. So let’s take a look at the stellar list of editorial elements for Bikernet this coming week. I have a couple of pieces of fiction from India to review. I will launch my first Bonne Belle Bonneville project tech tomorrow.

It’s a sad story, of struggles and hard times, but this is the year, after 6-years, to witness this bike kiss the salt with my grandson behind the bars. It will be exciting, damnit. Over the next couple of weeks, we will bring you several sizzling reports. Ray already completed his second 124-inch Turbo Charged build story, and he’s taping the desk, waiting for me to launch it.

I’m working with Trish, from Baker on a new primary tech with their 2012 Calendar girl as part of the bargain. We are also working with Paul Platts, from JIMS on a tech about rebuilding a trans, and a tech rundown about their brand new 135-inch Twin Cam. We plan to run one in our first Trike Streamliner for 2013. Hang on for that effort.

I know another feature on a Twin Cam Café bike is headed our way from Mike Pullin in North Carolina, and there’s more, but suddenly I’m blanking. Wait, the Saddlemen Mudflap Girl bike will be in the Wind this week, when I ride it home for Saddlemen. I will also start the Saddlemen custom seat tech this week. Here’s another one, Paul Garson shipped me two event features. Never a dull moment.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
