STAY CALM BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for November 8, 2018

Hey,

This was quite an election with 20 million more voters stepping up. That’s amazing. It’s going to be so interesting as all the outcomes unfold.

Hopefully, the results will lead to a better understanding, a shot in the arm for freedom and improved infrastructure. Let’s hit the news.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. Most recently the Smoke Out and Quick Throttle Magazine came on board.

HANG ON, Police adopt Custom Culture–While customization of two-wheelers or four-wheelers is a non-existing business in India especially because of the tedious process to register any custom made vehicle with RTO and Highway Authorities – Delhi Police facing constant pressure regarding dead end bottlenecks and crimes on the roads have a custom made plan.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police are all set to launch bike-borne PCR teams ahead of Diwali festivities that will be effective in patrolling congested lanes.

The bike fitted with loud hailers, geofencing software, GPS tracking units and a kit containing stun guns and pepper sprays will be launched later this week and deployed along with PCR units.

Officers riding these will be equipped with hands-free communication systems and body cameras. This will reduce the response time of the PCR units considerably, especially during the festive season.

Delhi Police spokesperson Madhur Verma said that on October 6, the PCR will induct 300 such bikes. “These vehicles are fitted with specialised equipment like GPS systems and loud hailer, which are important for street policing. This will not only improve the response time but also increase the visibility of the police patrol teams,” said Verma.

Similar units would eventually be deployed with the traffic police as well. Each bike will have two cops. Officers said that all these bikes will have a distinct silver paint with ‘police’ written on them. The units will attend calls to the police helpline 100 — like their counterparts deployed in cars — and coordinate with the police stations.

The bikes will also be fitted with LED lights, beside headlights for better visibility. The cops would also carry a side arm — an AK rifle or a MP5 sub-machine gun. Cops have modified the Bajaj Pulsar and the TVS Apache motorcycles to suit the needs. The bodies of these two-wheelers have also been reinforced with iron rods to sustain incidents of crashes.

BIKERNET READER BOOK QUESTION–
Hey, I was looking in the books department and didn’t see the Orwell book. I was wondering if you had any stashed under your pillow that I might purchase. Read ‘Seduction and Tour.’

I read where you are downsizing the site and I can see where you are stepping back a bit. 70 wow. I’m 68 and never thought I’d have made this far. Kind of sucks when for years I was the young Turk, now I’m the old graybeard fart.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY STRUGGLES WITHOUT SIDEHACK JERRY--Chuck sat in the barber’s chair, “I’ll have a shave and a shoe shine…”

The barber began to lather his face, while a woman with the biggest, Firmest, most beautiful real breasts that he had ever seen knelt down and began to shine his shoes.

Chuck said, “Young lady, you and I should go and spend some time in a hotel room.”

She replied, “I’m married and my husband wouldn’t like that.”

The man said, “Tell him you’re working overtime and I’ll pay you the difference.”

Yamaha Announces Production Plans for All-New Ténéré 700–U.S. Market to Receive Exciting New Adventure Touring Motorcycle in Second Half of 2020

Yamaha Motor Europe (YME) today introduced the all-new Yamaha Ténéré 700 Adventure Touring motorcycle during an exclusive press conference in Milan, Italy, and Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. (YMUS) announced that this exciting all-new motorcycle would also be produced for the U.S. market.

Production for the European model will take place in France, while production for the U.S. model will take place at Yamaha’s factory in Japan. Due to differing government regulatory standards and factory production line schedules, the all-new Ténéré 700 is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the second half of 2020.

Yamaha U.S. also announced the return of the flagship Super Ténéré ES as the company’s 2019 Adventure Touring model. Arriving at dealerships beginning in November 2018, the 2019 Super Ténéré ES will be available in a Ceramic Ice color scheme for an MSRP of $16,199.

The Ténéré story: where it all began

The Ténéré can trace its roots back to the launch of the XT500 enduro-adventure bike in 1976. This versatile motorcycle became an instant success thanks to its single cylinder four-stroke engine with strong torque and a compact chassis.

Its go-anywhere ability, rugged design, and outstanding reliability opened up a new world of adventure to many motorcycle riders. These same qualities made the XT500 the ideal choice for competitors in the very ?rst Paris-Dakar Rally in 1977, demonstrated by Cyril Neveu’s victory on the bike.

The XT500 quickly established a reputation as the toughest desert rally bike, and it became the default model for adventure-seeking riders and rally racers alike. Today, the XT500 is considered one of the most signi?cant and iconic motorcycles of the late 20th century, with active owners’ clubs throughout the world.

By the end of the 1970s, the XT500 had achieved legendary status among riders, and in 1983, Yamaha introduced the XT600Z that became the company’s ?rst Adventure bike to carry the Ténéré name – a Tuareg word meaning ‘desert’ or ‘wilderness.’

The Ténéré line-up was constantly evolving and growing, and the end of the 1980s saw the introduction of the two-cylinder XTZ750 Super Ténéré, followed in the early 1990s by the single-cylinder XTZ660 Ténéré. During this period, Yamaha’s Ténéré motorcycles won many more Dakar Rally events, with Stéphane Peterhansel claiming six victories on his XTZ750-based Factory Yamaha race bike in the 1990s.

Ténéré 700 World Raid: Tested to the extreme

The ?rst sign that Yamaha was developing a new Adventure Touring motorcycle came with the launch of the T7 concept in 2016. Displayed at motorcycle shows all over the world, it created immense interest and gave riders a taste of what was to come. In 2017 Yamaha introduced the Ténéré 700 World Raid prototype that was one step closer to the final production specification.

Since then, the Ténéré 700 World Raid prototype has undergone an intensive world tour in various key locations all over the globe. During this development phase, the bike was subjected to the most extreme testing in hostile terrain and severe climatic conditions.

THURSDAY NEWS EXCLUSIVE: Electric Vs Oil

Electric car demand fuelling rise in child labour in DR Congo: Campaigners

Tens of thousands of children as young as six dig for the toxic substance in artisanal mines in the country’s southeast, without protective clothing, rights groups say.

REUTERS November 03, 2018

DAKAR: Demand for electric vehicles is fuelling a rise in child labour in cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo, experts said this week, urging companies to take action as the industry expands.

Cobalt is a key component in batteries for electric cars, phones and laptops, and Congo provides more than half of global supply.

(Adult health hazard, adult toxic sickness and pollution of land be damned) –
“Based on what I saw on the ground, right now there is absolutely no way any company in the world could assure its consumers that the cobalt in its products is not tainted by child labour,” Kara told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Tesla discloses more regulatory credits helped profit in Q3

Tesla booked $189.5 million in automotive regulatory credits in its third quarter which helped contribute to profitability, the company said in a quarterly filing on Friday.

REUTERS November 03, 2018

SAN FRANCISCO: Last month Tesla disclosed $52 million in “zero emission vehicle” credit sales, but the quarterly filing includes all regulatory credits, including the ZEV credits.

Higher gross margins that exceeded Tesla’s guidance in the quarter were helped by lower costs and an “increase in regulatory credits, which have no associated costs,” Tesla wrote.

The new disclosure shows that 44 percent of the net profit Tesla reported last week was attributed to previously undisclosed regulatory credits.

HOLLYWOOD FIGHT NIGHTS 4th ANNUAL
TOM LOEFFLER ‘s 360 PROMOTIONS VIP BOXING EXPERIENCE 2018
Tuesday What makes some boxing events more fun than the rest? Is it the crowd, the boxers, the venue?

The 4th Annual Hollywood Fight Nights was definitely the move this Tuesday. Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions Hollywood Fight Nights VIP Boxing Experience was held at the historical Avalon in Hollywood California.

The Avalon is a super gorgeous theatre space, with strategically placed bars everywhere you turn. I must mention the lighting in this place, it is so beautiful. I don’t know about you, but I’m a stickler for good lighting. Please don’t make me sit for hours in a hotel banquet room with fluorescent lighting. This place, not only spectacular to look at, had a legit menu, stiff drinks and a good staff.

Now on with the show! This Halloween eve had 7 bouts on the fight card. At the weigh ins, I could see who was going to be interesting. I was super excited to see “El Flaco” Serhii Bohachuk fight in the main event for the Junior Middleweight division for 6 rounds. You’ve got to love this boxer, he’s a trip! He’s 6 ft tall, good looking, with a heavy eastern European accent. His walkout song is Marriachi, you gotta love it.

Serhii Bohachuk 10-0 (10 KO’s) fighting out of Los Angeles Ca Vs Ronald Montes 18-10 (16 KO’s) Barranquilla, Colombia. Serhii “El Flaco” has been training with Abel Sanchez in Big Bear Ca, at the Summit high altitude training center. Pretty amazing stuff. The 23 year old turned pro in 2017 and has been consistently knocking dudes out. On this night he did it again! The left hook he gave Montes looked like easy work for El Flaco. At 1:50 into the first round, it was all over.

Ronald Montes fighting out of the blue corner, walked out to Bob Marley’s anthem reggae song. Montes took some harsh body shots before going down. El Flaco remains undefeted at 11-0 (11 KO’s).

Leading up to the main event were some super solid matches.

Teodoro Alonso 0-2 Los Angeles CA Vs Jaime Miranda 2-2 (2 KO’s) Kalispell MT. These young boxers both had long hair at the weigh ins, so neatly braided the very next day. Alonso, looking for his first win, had non stop punches and favored his uppercut. These athletes went all four rounds. In the junior lightweight division, Alonso wins by unanimous decision over Jaime Miranda. Scores were 40-36 on all three judges’ scorecard.

The next bout, I knew would be interesting. Kenny Brown Los Angeles CA, a super unknown, making his pro debut is up against undefeated boxer Devon ‘The Great’ Lee, (5-0-0, 5 KO’s), of Sacramento. Devon Lee could stick to talking with his fists, but he has a lot to say too! Kenny Brown started out confidant, but within 51 seconds, off the rope, Devon Lee knocks Brown out before he even hit the mat. Off the rope! A beautiful thing. Brown crawled around before he stood up and then he still had no legs. It was over. The crowd loved it. Congratulations to Devon Lee and let’s hope Kenny Brown doesn’t get discouraged and we see him again.

It’s always thrilling to see the revered Freddie Roach in a corner. His fighter Marco Deckman made his professional debut this June. Deckman is super tall and in shape. Hurtado looks completely overweight and like he’s been kicking back drinking beer. Marco Deckman, (2-0-0, 2 KO’s), stopped Jose Jesus Hurtado, (5-10-0), of San Ysidro, CA with a left hook to the body in the second round.

The next fight was highly anticipated. Adrian Corona 1-0 Rialto, CA Vs Gabriel Serrano 0-1 Santa Ana CA. Keep your eye on Adrian Corona, a great athlete. With a look of power and calm, Corona walked out to the neighborhood song of “Night Owl” by Tony Allen. Corona looked & felt comfortable in Hollywood because he’s fought here before, he’s no stranger to danger. Adrian Corona, is only 18 years old. “Bam Bam” comes from a fighting family and is a so cal favorite already.

His apponant Serrano, is 30 years old with a reach advantage and a unique fighting style. Some people think the age difference is an advantage of experience in the ring. You could hear Serrano’s corner yelling at him jab jab jab of course, with that reach advantage. Ringside commentator Doug Fisher so perfectly described Corona as a “cool customer”. Corona stayed steady at it by getting in close to land his punches. Serrano was changing his stance from orthodox to southpaw, and almost lost his balance more than once.

Corona looking like a champ, kept Serrano backed up against the ropes. Corona knocks Serrano down in the 3rd round with a sweet one right to the face. “Bam Bam” Adrian Corona wins a four-round decision over Gabriel Serrano. Scores were 40-35 and 39-36 twice.

In the featherweight division Humberto “Filly” Rubalcava, (9-0-0, 6 KO’s) of Orange, CA Vs Robert ‘Escorpion’ Pucheta, (10-15-1, 6 KO’s), of Jalisco, Mexico for six-rounds. These boxers were bad asses that love to box. Scores in favor of the still undefeated Rubalcava at the end of 6 rounds were 60-53 and 58-55, twice. Be sure to watch out for “Filly’s” left hook.

The co main event, Jonathan Esquivel 7-0 (7 KO’s) Anaheim CA Vs Rowdy Legend Montgomery 5-1-1 (4 KO’s) Hesperia CA. This was a great fight. Everybody was at the edge of their seats. Jonathan ‘Diamante’ Esquivel had a lot of fans in the audience that were chanting “JOHN NA THAN” “JOHN NA THAN” it was super exciting. Rowdy seemed to connect with the audience and got a good response from his boxing. Esquivel started bleeding in the 4th round, but Montgomery wins in the last two rounds against Esquivel. Scores were 59-54 twice and 58-55.

It was such a great fun night of Boxing. There were all kinds of beautiful people in costume everywhere! The Who’s Who from the Big Bear training crew were there as well. The undefeated champion Cecilia Brækhus was there. The beautiful professional athlete is the undisputed female welterweight champion since 2014, and is the first woman in any weight class to hold the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO titles simultaneously.

The Hollywoood Fight Nights VIP Boxing Experience will continue in 2019. Thank you for taking the time to read my column for all of the latest in the Boxing world.

BOB NICHOLS R.I.P.

Trailblazer Hall of Famer, Bob Nichols, passed away on October 30, 2018 at the age of 97 (depending on who you ask). Since 1940 Bob’s business was motorcycle, auto and airplane performance, engineering and manufacturing of parts, specializing in Indian Motorcycles and other V Twin & single cylinder engines. And he was a master at it. Among other venues, his Indians raced on the AHRMA circuit at Delmar, Ventura, Temecula, Sacramento and Willow Springs.

In later years he would be in the pits at local races, in his wheel chair, a wrench in his hand and a grin on his face. He had a great amount of success and lots of fun. We will miss you and your stories. God Speed. Take a look at this short clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXwKltt1zHQ

OPPOSE THE YEAR-ROUND SALE OF E15

The AMA is asking for your support to urge President Trump to reconsider directing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to allow year-round sales of E15 fuel, a blend of gasoline that is 15 percent ethanol by volume. It would waive the Clean Air Act requirements related to Reid Vapor Pressure. This action would put the owners of millions of motorcycles and ATVs at significant risk, because this fuel can cause engine and fuel system damage and may void the manufacturers’ warranty. None of the estimated 22 million motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles in use in the U.S .are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to use E15 or higher ethanol blends.

Harley-Davidson Releases Further Details on 2019 LiveWire at EICMA Show– The all-new electric Harley-Davidson LiveWire made its European debut at the Milan press conference of the EICMA show. The announcement reveals eagerly-awaited specification and details about LiveWire, which was unveiled in Milwaukee during the company’s 115th Anniversary this past Labor Day weekend.

Due for release in 2019 and being shown at the event as a production-ready motorcycle, LiveWire was first confirmed during the announcement of the company’s “More Roads to Harley-Davidson.” On July 30, 2018, Harley-Davidson shared plans to accelerate its strategy to build the next generation of riders globally.

The vision behind the production LiveWire motorcycle began with Project LiveWire, revealed as a prototype in 2014 as an effort to gauge the potential of an electric-powered motorcycle as envisioned by Harley-Davidson. Drawing from the experiences of the Project LiveWire demo tour and following an intensive development program the Harley-Davidson LiveWire model offers the rider a new, high-performance motorcycling experience. Propelled by the immediate torque of an all-electric motor, the LiveWire motorcycle is capable of astounding acceleration with just a twist of the throttle – no clutching or gear shifting required. A low center of gravity, rigid aluminum frame and premium adjustable suspension components give the LiveWire dynamic handling. Performance and range are optimized for the urban street-rider.

Power
The LiveWire motorcycle is powered by a permanent magnet electric motor that produces instant torque the moment that throttle is twisted– which results in incredible acceleration performance for a thrilling ride. The motor is located low in the motorcycle to lower the center of gravity and help the motorcycle handle well at all speeds and easy to control when stopped. The LiveWire model is designed to produce a tone that increases in pitch and volume with speed –a new sound that represents the smooth, electric power of the LiveWire motorcycle.

Chassis
Powertrain performance is maximized by a chassis designed to deliver nimble, agile handling for confident control on urban streets and a thrilling ride on curving backroads. Combining the powertrain as a stressed member within the aluminum frame to increase rigidity, the LiveWire features premium high-performance fully adjustable Showa® suspension. The Showa® BFRC-lite® (Balanced Free Rear Cushion-lite) mono-shock rear suspension is complimented by Showa SFF-BP® (Separate Function Fork-Big Piston®) up front, balanced to match the performance and adjustability of the rear shock and deliver exceptional low-speed damping control – ideal for composed control in typical urban riding conditions.

To improve the control and performance of the motorcycle further LiveWire is fitted with Brembo Monoblock front brake calipers gripping dual 300 mm-diameter discs to deliver outstanding power with a crisp feel for confident braking performance.

Confidence when riding is boosted with cornering-enhanced Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Traction Control System (TCS) – both of which are standard features on the LiveWire model – and co-branded H-D/Michelin Scorcher tires (180mm rear/120mm front). The rider can also tailor the performance of LiveWire with seven selectable riding modes – four of which are set as standard from the factory and a further three modes that can be defined by the user.

The LiveWire motorcycle features a RESS (Rechargeable Energy Storage System, or the main battery) composed of lithium-ion cells surrounded by a finned, cast-aluminum housing. The LiveWire motorcycle is also equipped with a small 12-volt lithium-ion battery that powers the lights, controls, horn and instrument display.

Charging can be completed using the on-board Level 1 charger that plugs into a standard household outlet with a power cord that stores below the motorcycle seat. LiveWire can also be charged with a Level 2 or Level 3, DC Fast Charge (DCFC), through a SAE J1772 connector, (USA), or CCS2 – IEC type 2 charging connector in international markets. All Harley-Davidson dealers who sell the LiveWire motorcycle will offer a public charging station with DCFC.

The all-new Harley-Davidson LiveWire will be on sale next year, and further details regarding pricing and pre-order process will be released in January 2019. Please visit www.h-d.com/MoreRoads for details.

SOMETHING FOR THE HORSE– Bandit, how ya doin’, man? Doing about the same here. Not doing any better, but not any worse. I just ordered George Christie’s book, “Exile On Front Street” from Amazon. I read the review on Bikernet.

I had a guy from Illinois or Indiana, can’t remember right off, he’s not a known guy, but he has a sweet Shovelhead chopper, and I sent a pic to David (Englishman), and he said that I could cover it for ‘THE HORSE’. Do you have any advice you could pass on to me about writing a damn good bike feature? I’ll forward the two pics the guy sent for me to show David, I’ll forward them to you.

The best advice I could give would include reading a bunch of HORSE features and pick the best to follow.–Bandit

Soon, Dmitry Bivol and his team arrive. Dmitry, 14-0 (11 KO’s) stands 6 ft tall and is 27 years old born in Soviet Union and speaks Russian as his first language. Next was his ring time warm up with conditioning coach Taylor Ramsdell and pads with trainer Gennady Mashianov. Watching his session was incredible. The power behind Bivol’s punches was intense at ringside. The gym got quiet for a few seconds. Boxing is a dangerous sport, times like today are a real reminder.

Want To Improve Your Productivity in 3 Steps? Then Say No To These Three Activities Immediately.

From www.Forbes.com

1. Activities You Can Delegate
2. Urgent Requests That Don’t Really Matter
3. Ways Of Working That Drain You

Activities You Can Delegate

Are you a people pleaser? Do you take on more than you can handle? Or would you like a way to focus on your work without becoming distracted by other people’s priorities?

Productive entrepreneurs and executives make smart decisions about how to spend their time, energy and resources. They also know to what to turn down, and how to do it.

Management consultant and author Peter Drucker said, “You can’t build on weakness.” Instead, he recommended focusing on one’s strengths.

For example, you might have excellent writing skills and be able to sell your products and services with great sales pages, but you struggle with designing visual elements for these pages.

Say no to spending hours taking Photoshop tutorials or trying to improve your design skills. Instead, focus on writing and outsource design work to a third-party using a site like UpWork. https://www.upwork.com/

If you work within a large MNC business, you might excel at data analysis but struggle at presenting information in a visually appealing way.

Instead of trying to improve your PowerPoint skills, consider enlisting a colleague who can turn your analysis into a format others can interpret.

This way, you can advance faster by focusing on your strengths rather than trying to improve your weaknesses.

Urgent Requests That Don’t Really Matter

Ding. An email arrives in your inbox with a request for “your thoughts before lunch.” Responding takes ten minutes and isn’t directly related to anything you’re working on.

While it’s nice to help others, these urgent but unimportant activities soak up time and mental energy.

Also, important but not urgent activities represent other people’s priorities.

Beware! The thirty-fourth president of the United States, Dwight Eisenhower said, “What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important.”

He proposed the Eisenhower box as a framework for deciding what to focus on and what to ignore.

So say yes to important tasks that help you achieve your goals faster and say no or at least “not right now”, to everything else. Only later should you return to these requests and activities (if at all).

Ways Of Working That Drain You

Several years ago, I worked with a sales manager of a large team. He loved nothing more than reaching a decision by talking about his ideas out loud with his team. On the other hand, I often need time and space to reflect on information before reaching a decision.

At first I thought I should work more like this sales manager, but then I realized he was a classic extrovert, whereas I’m an introvert. Both work styles are OK.

He arranged his working day so he was surrounded by others, whereas I built in blocks of quiet or alone time into my day. I often need to recharge after events or large meetings although he found these activities revitalizing.

Susan Cain wrote, “Don’t think of introversion as something that needs to be cured.”

Say No Like A Pro

Learning how and what to say no to is a skill that demands practice. It’s particularly difficult if you’re used to accommodating others.

Once you know yourself and your working style, you’ll be better able to identify what to refuse by saying no until you’re free to help a colleague or peer.

Self-knowledge and a little diplomacy are important traits for entrepreneurs and executives.

WORK IN PROGRESS, THE BIKERNET FREEDOM MANIFESTO FOR 2019–
There is a threat recently unleashed on the public that may change our lives forever. Under the guise of saving the planet, a group of control freaks have devised a way to control everything in our lives. As bikers we know the drill, when we dismantled helmet laws, and then Joan Claybrook came up with the public burden theory.

This time it’s a Government by the People for the Planet powered by ever-expanding government agencies.

Remember the McCarthy era, the public was sold on our demise through the threat of communism so the government took control. It was a hoax.

In this case, the threat of Climate Change has made your car, motorcycle or truck the bad guys, and we were convinced there was nothing we could do but succumb to the mandates of a growing number of agencies and control mongers.

This leads to a rapidly growing prohibition on fossil fuels. We all know how well prohibition worked in the ‘20s. The temperance movement made every beer drinker the bad guy. Now it’s mom in her SUV.

Here’s the shame, even beyond the mandates, the laws, the restrictions and the money. We live twice as long as our ancestors. We are healthier and have medical treatments able to cure almost anything. We live safer and our homes and cars are amazing. We conquered leaded fuels and the worst emissions. We should be free to do so many things because we’ve accomplished so much. We should be celebrating, not punishing, our fellow citizens for driving cars or smoking a cigarette. We should be free to modify anything we want. We should be dancing in the streets, but we are not.

Read the whole tamale on Bikernet tomorrow.–Bandit

Looks good to me. However, the Prohibition analogy isn’t a good one, IMO.

Climate change? Yeah, it’s happening, and has been since the dawn of time. Does mankind affect it? Yes, we’ve been doing so since the first hominids began spreading out of Africa. But so have plate tectonics, solar cycles, meteor and comet strikes, etc. But our impact (despite the Chicken Little crap from junk science) is grossly overstated.

NEW ON BIKERNET TRIKES–The 5th Annual Spyders In The Hills was held in Boerne, Texas, October 18th – 20th, 2018

The trike industry has been growing…a lot! Physical limitations, i.e., sore backs, especially in the ‘Graybeard club’ continue to rise; so are potential ride-ending injuries sustained by U.S. military and First Responders. Bombardier, Can Am of Canada, has an established line of well-engineered great handling trikes (two wheels up front) to keep folks of all physical abilities ‘in-the- wind’ without the need for “boots-on-the- ground.”

My wife had been crippled with back pain from a collapsing spine and degenerating discs. Her ability to ride on two wheels came to a stop and after a 15-year love affair, she handed down her V-Star 1100 to her daughter.

Two back surgeries later, #1, September 2016 at Cedars Sinai, Marina Del Rey CA failed in six months. #2, January 2018, with 2 levels of artificial disc replacements & carbon fiber rods in Zurich Switzerland, is successful. She had purchased a pearl white full dress CanAm Spyder RTS in April of 2016.

After her second surgery she resumed riding again. Her smile has returned and with her Spyder, she’s in the wind again and comfortable. (Her walker was donated to Goodwill.)

REPORT FROM THE GEARHEAD DIARIES–I have seen a lot for a not too old guy. I have packed my wife on the back of a Shovelhead since 1978. I look at old Dave Mann prints and say to myself that that could be me.

I have been practically pushed down the grade by a Peterbuilt hauling logs with the air brake on in Big Sur, to TJ being chased by a bull off the side of the road in the mountains up north. Built some of the bike in the kitchen of the house, drove a chopper up a ramp into the house, hauled a chopper in a panel truck from downtown to Torrance with a strap holding doors together cause it’s too long.

The one thing that always sticks out in my mind with a lot of my stories is on a run to Death Valley in 1978 with some other brothers at the time. Love the desert in the Fall of the year. The Nuggets motorcycle club use to put this run on every year. Pulled over at a stop, for whatever, and seen the prettiest pearl white knuckle I have ever seen.

This is where the story gets strange. It was on a trailer being towed by a truck. Here is the strange, a bare backed biker riding on it while being towed and to boot he had a bota bag squirting a liquid substance in his mouth while flying in the wind down the road. A desert mirage? I doubt it, the other brothers seen it to.

The knuckle bobbed out and really clean for the period. The way a bobber should be built then or now.

NEWS FROM THE CLIMATE DEPOT–
A major problem in new media hyped ocean heat uptake paper: Serious ‘errors in the underlying calculations’

The findings of the Resplandy et al paper were peer-reviewed and published in the world’s premier scientific journal and were given wide coverage in the English-speaking media.

Despite this, a quick review of the first page of the paper was sufficient to raise doubts as to the accuracy of its results. Just a few hours of analysis and calculations, based only on published information, was sufficient to uncover apparently serious (but surely inadvertent) errors in the underlying calculations.

Moreover, even if the paper’s results had been correct, they would not have justified its findings regarding an increase to 2.0°C in the lower bound of the equilibrium climate sensitivity range and a 25% reduction in the carbon budget for 2°C global warming.

Because of the wide dissemination of the paper’s results, it is extremely important that these errors are acknowledged by the authors without delay and then corrected. Of course, it is also very important that the media outlets that unquestioningly trumpeted the paper’s findings now correct the record too.

FLORIDA RESTORES VOTING RIGHTS–
I would like to Thank Everyone who Voted in Florida to Pass Amendment 4.
I would like to think that supplying you with information here on Bikernet made you aware of this amendment and helped you decide to pass it.–Rogue

Amendment 4: Voters approve measure to restore felons’ voting rights

The landmark measure restores voting rights to 1.2 million Floridians with felony convictions

About 1.2 million convicted felons in Florida will automatically have their right to vote restored, thanks to a ballot measure that received more than 64 percent of the vote Tuesday.

At least 60 percent of voters had to approve for Amendment 4 to become law.

For the past seven years, felons have had to wait five years after completing their sentence to even apply to have their voting rights restored.

The movement to reform the state’s notoriously strict restoration process was championed by the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, a bipartisan group led by convicted felons. The group collected more than 800,000 signatures to qualify Amendment 4 for the 2018 ballot.

Approval of the amendment ends Florida’s outlier status as the state with the most people permanently barred from voting — only three other states ban felons from the polls for life.

Amendment 4 restores the right to vote to convicted felons who have completed all terms of their sentences, including probation and restitution, but excludes those who are convicted of murder or sex crimes. Those people will still be barred from voting unless their rights are restored by the state clemency board, which consists of the governor and the three cabinet officers (attorney general, chief financial officer and commissioner of agriculture and consumer services).

While the campaign had wide bipartisan support and little organized opposition, some candidates stated they did not support the measure.

Republicans like gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis and Gov. Rick Scott, nominee for U.S. Senate, said they were opposed.

Scott has said, “If you are a convicted felon part of what you did is you lose your rights and there ought to be a process to get those rights back. I think it is fair to the rest of the citizens of the state.”

Both Democratic opponents, Sen. Bill Nelson and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, supported Amendment 4.

Throughout the campaign, the ballot measure gained star-studded support from the likes of John Legend, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, NFL stars like Warrick Dunn and even the Koch-backed Freedom Partners.

Strong financial support came from donors like the American Civil Liberties Union, which paid for more than $5 million in advertising on TV and social media, in both English and Spanish.

One TV ad stars Gary Winston, a former Miami-Dade County attorney who permanently lost his right to vote.

Under the current process, felons must appeal to the state clemency board for a hearing. The board meets four times a year. The current process can take more than 10 years to complete and because of the restrictive laws, Florida once barred more former felons than any other state.

“CT Nation has come to expect the biggest and best when it comes to our headline artists,” says Country Thunder Music Festivals CEO Troy Vollhoffer. “We’re incredibly proud to have Luke Bryan, Toby Keith and Luke Combs in Florida, but we also know that it’s a balance of headliners, combined with red-hot up-and-comers and heritage acts who have stood the test of time which creates the total festival experience.”

“It wasn’t that long ago when Luke Bryan was an early afternoon act at numerous Country Thunder events – you just never know when you’re going to discover your new favorite artist or the next big thing.”

Newly announced artists to perform on the main stage include High Valley, who is poised for great things after scoring their first U.S. top-10 last year with “She’s With Me,” along with Mitchell Tenpenny, Runaway June, Waterloo Revival, Jimmie Allen, Jameson Rodgers and Noah Schnecky.

In addition to three days of the biggest and best acts that country music has to offer, the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo will also be taking place during the festival over at the Silver Spurs Arena.

Three-day GA passes (including a new standing room area which allows fans to get up close and personal with their favorite CT stars), reserved seating, Platinum Experience, camping, glamping and all the extras are available by visiting countrythunder.com. BOXING NEWS–360’s Promotion’s Tom Loeffler made several announcements recently. To his left sat the Nicaraguan champion boxer Ramon “Chocolito” Gonzalez. The flyweight boxer holds world titles in four weight classes. To his right, “the First Lady” of boxing Cecilia Breakhus.

Today’s Welterweight Champion is the “First Lady” of Boxing Cecila Braekhus 34-0 (9 KO’s). Its insane to think that the beautiful lady in front of you is deadly. Deadly and undefeated! Make no doubt about this babe. If you caught her last fight at Stub Hub it was ten rounds of bad assery! Its a wonder shes so easy on the eyes, the lady can take a punch!

She’s the #1 Pound for Pound Female Boxer in the World by Ring Magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America and the first woman in any weight class to hold the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO titles simultaneously. Her athletic skills stand right next to the likes of Bernard Hopkins, being one of only 5 in history to ever hold all four titles.

Also in attendance was Cecilia’s trainer Jonathan Banks and HBO’s Tony Walker. The day was a formal announcement of a tribute show to HBO. Tom acknowledged the careers launched of greats like Oscar de la Hoya , Shay Mosley, Floyd Mayweather and many more. HBO was the first to air a female fight in 45 years. That alone will forever go down in history and is deserving of a tribute. For decades HBO has been the home of all the best famous boxing nights. Together with Stubhub Center’s tremendous arena, were in for a good show of boxing.

Both boxers have agreed to train here in Los Angeles. It’s foolproof that the same Norwegian boxer that was the first female fight in 45 years will also be in one of, if not the very last fight ever. The tickets are reasonable starting at $25 and are available this Saturday.

SALT FLATS UPDATE—Gary Maurer, a master car and motorcycle builder, called this morning. “I could have worked it into my schedule and had it done in less than a couple of years,” Gary said. “I have a Jr. dragster steering wheel and box. It’s in the mail to you today.”

I’m headed to the Long Beach Swapmeet this Sunday with Jeremiah. He’s looking for a radiator for his ’52 Chevy and I’ll be looking for dragster frame components. I need to make serious measurements before I head out.–Bandit

THE ELECTRIC HARLEY REPORT–
I promoted the Bikernet news about the Harley-Davidson Livewire announcement at EICMA with quite a few groups on social media. These riders in the group from USA and Europe have been riding motorcycles for more than 15 years and fans of Harley-Davidson since they heard and understood the word “motorcycle” in their childhood.

I will let you know if I hear back from anyone about their views and comments and those of ordinary people who just want to go out and ride and not be bothered with who makes what regarding brands / models / profits / taxes / laws / etc.

FIRST ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE from Harley-Davidson would be in production and available for sale from 2019

I’M SURE THERE’S CONFUSION—But what the hell. Life is confusing, but at least more folks stepped up to make their voices heard.

Just goes to show, we must get the word out and vote. The next election will be a doozy. Maybe everyone will vote.

Just about as far as I’m gonna go with the F250. I’ll take a new shot for the Sunday Post. Wish me luck at the swap meet.

And fight for freedom, or die trying.
