Hey,
Less than a week and we’ll be on the road to the Badlands in the Bikernet Hearse, pulling a trailer with the Sturgis Chop and the Salt Shaker loaded. We are scrambling on many fronts.
We are about to launch a new Cantina Membership program with Dairyland Insurance discounts and up to 15 percent off of Samson Exhaust and Custom Controls. Hell, members will receive Bikernet Classifieds discounts and free passes to the Sturgis Museum.
On top of that, we are working on a Subscription raffle program for 2012 with Cycle Source magazine. And our new subscribers will receive a shot at winning a one-off bobber. You’ll see your bike being built on the pages of Cycle Source and Bikernet.
Okay, I need to adjust my Shovelhead valves and check the oil before we load for the run to Sturgis. Let’s hit the news. It’s kicking my ass.
NEW BIZARRE PRODUCT COMING TO BIKERNET– I had a local undertaker ask me to custom paint a casket-it is starting to look smokin’. How do ya feel bout puttin’ these on the web site for sale? Do you wanna be my West Coast Dealer. Looks like a good income stream.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY PHD TEST ANSWERS, FOR YOU EYES ONLY–
* The moon moves about two inches away from the Earth each year
* The Earth gets 100 tons heavier every day due to falling space dust. (Now I know were the house dust comes from!)
* Due to earth’s gravity, it is impossible for mountains to be higher than 15,000 meters
* Mickey Mouse is known as “Topolino” in Italy
* Soldiers do not march in step when going across bridges because they could set up a vibration which could be sufficient to knock the bridge down
* Everything weighs one percent less at the equator
* For every extra kilogram carried on a space flight, 530 kg of excess fuel are needed at lift-off
* The letter J does not appear anywhere on the periodic table of the elements.
* And last but not least: In 2011, July has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays. This apparently happens once every 823 years! This is called ‘money bags’. So send this on to 5 and money will arrive in 5 days. Based on Chinese Feng Shui, the one who does not pass this on will have money troubles for the rest of the year.

DR. HAMSTER RIDES ATK NAKED– “Today I had an awesome riding experience.
I used to do some sport bike racing about 30 years ago and so I am still partial to the look and feel of speed.
I sat on the bike and it felt great!
I am 6 foot and it was a great fit. Perfect seating position. I looked the bike over and couldn’t get over that it said it was a 250cc bike on the side covers!
Off we went with another couple of guys on their hopped up Choppers to the Bennett Performance Open House party. The ATK kept right up with everybody, even when we were hitting 90mph on the freeway! It felt stable and was super comfortable and solid in the turns, brakes performed phenomenal. The handling of this bike was exceptional, particularly when Keith told me the price: Right around $4000! Unbelievable value for the price.
Worth every penny!
All in all a superb experience.

BORN TO RIDE SCREENING LAST WEEKEND– It was great. Huge turnout for the screening and then I organized a scenic ride back to Road Guardians Compound, Vicki’s business, and we had food and drink and Mike Jones performed there.
Many people commented on Bandit’s part in the movie and they enjoyed seeing Branscombe too. The September 4th event will take place at the Road Guardians also. We have a nice property with a two lift shop, show room and education area. It used to be a ATV, wave runner and snow mobile dealership. It’s fenced in with barb wire at the top and looks like a really nice clubhouse.
I think you’ll look good on that ’48 Pan. I’m riding up to a H-D dealer north of Green Bay this weekend to take part in a Cancer Research Ride sponsored by Jerry Parins, owner of the Green Bay Packers. The next day, I’ll be in Oshkosh for the Glory Honor Ride bike show, raising money to send WWII vets to DC to see their memorial. That Pan gets a lot of attention.
They specifically requested I bring it to Green Bay because they have a vintage bike show and vintage military display going on there with the ride. You’re going to love this place.

MOTORCYCLE SALES REPORT FROM AUSTRALIA– Motorcycle sales in Australia increased in the first half of 2011, according to figures releases today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI). Sales increased some 3.1% over the same period in 2010.
The growth in motorcycle sales has so-far outpaced the wider passenger and commercial vehicle market during 2011.
“The overall market for motorcycles has continued to see a little growth during 2011 compared with car and light commercial sales, which are down 6.6% year-to-date,” he said.
“The growth of scooter sales and the resilience of overall road bike sales suggest commuters are finding motorcycles to be a practical solution to continuing high fuel prices and inner-city traffic congestion,” he said.
However, seven of the Top Ten motorcycles remain off-road bikes which is a testament to the ongoing popularity of motorcycling as a recreational sport and pastime in Australia.

JIMS TOOL OF THE WEEK–Use the JIMS FXST Rear Seat Mounting Screw Tool No.774 to mount the seat to the rear fender on all 2007 to present FXST models using the stock H-D mounting screw. Features include a recessed tip that engages only the screw head to keep it from scratching the seat tab and/or fender when installing and removing the seat. This recessed tip secures over the screw head to eliminate the danger of slipping off the screw which may also cause damage commonly experienced with a standard flathead screwdriver. Eliminating the chance of accidentally scratching or damaging paint on a fender can pay for this tool on the first use!

ANTI-STURGIS RALLY TURNS DEADLY– “Too Broke for Sturgis” is an alternative rally dubbed as a simpler, lower key alternative to the increasingly massive South Dakota event. But gunfire has left three dead, one critically injured, and a sour note looming over the ABATE-organized gathering.
A Sheriff’s department statement says it appeared the shooting stemmed from an alcohol-fueled argument over food, leaving husband and wife Edgar Atzin, 45, and Trina A. Atzin, 43, dead, as well as Christian Tejada, 38. A 33 year-old female was shot six times, and remains in “critical but stable” condition as of Sunday night.
Reuters says that “In recent years, some veteran riders have complained the Sturgis rally has lost its outlaw edge, attracting too many bankers and lawyers with top-of-the-line $30,000 Harley-Davidsons and not enough old-fashioned hard-core bikers.”
But frankly, I’m not sure what’s worse: bloated, over-commercialized rallies, or Wild West-style gatherings that turn deadly.

I always liked her, she looks just like my first wife Wanda. Looks like it needs a sequel to bring down the senator. Anyway I enjoyed it, I was at Sturgis last year but short on money and time. Had a great ride though. This year I am going to Booze Blues and Bar bques in Fayetteville Ark.

THE ILLEGAL ROADBLOCK REGISTRY– When it is mentioned that Georgia conducts over 10,000 roadblocks per year, people may naturally assume this is a statistic from the former Soviet country that sits on the southern border of Russia.
After all, there can’t be that many roadblocks set up across the whole of the United States in a given year, let alone just in the Peach State, can there?
Shockingly, yes there can.
State troopers in the Georgia do erect that many roadblocks each year. Most are under the guise of sobriety and motorcycle checkpoints, but the net – as in casting a wide one – effect is to detain law-abiding motorists at what often become contentious traffic stops.
If the state police in Georgia conduct that many roadblocks each year, just imagine how many United States motorists are subjected to unwarranted stops.
Consider these statistics from California:
•In 2010, the ratio of vehicle impoundments to DUI arrests was six to one.
•The state collected $40 million in towing fees the year before, much of the activity occurring at sobriety checkpoints, with most vehicle confiscation due to unlicensed, not inebriated, drivers.
•Only 2.3 percent of all DUI arrests in 2008 were due to those checkpoints; the vast majority resulted from regular police patrols.
At a time when U.S. politicians are successfully pressuring companies like Apple and Research in Motion (the makers of the ubiquitous Blackberry product line) to stop distributing smartphone apps that alert drivers to roadblock locations, the NMA has a solution for those who want to travel without being personally scrutinized by law enforcement personnel.
Our site, the Roadblock Registry , is a free resource for drivers who want to check in advance for reported roadblock locations on a state-by-state and city level. We have just completed an upgrade of the site that simplifies the process of reporting and finding roadblocks.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER RECENT FINDINGS–Three Fish to Avoid. I have long recommended fish as part of a healthy, anti-inflammatory diet. However, not all fish provide the same benefits, and some species should be limited or avoided altogether. I suggest minimizing your consumption of the following:
1. Large predatory fish. Shark, swordfish, tilefish, king mackerel and white (albacore) tuna may have high levels of mercury. Pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of contaminants, and should avoid these species.
2. Omega-6 rich fish. Farm-raised tilapia is one of the most highly consumed fish in America, yet it has very low levels of beneficial omega-3s and very high levels of potentially detrimental omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory, and inflammation is known to cause damage to blood vessels, the heart, lung and joint tissues, skin and the digestive tract.
3. Farmed salmon. Avoid farmed salmon (also called Atlantic salmon), which is what you typically find in supermarkets, restaurants and fish markets. While less expensive than wild salmon, farmed salmon has a less favorable ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fats and may contain residues of antibiotics and other drugs used to treat diseases in fish farming pens. What’s more, levels of PCBs and other contaminants in some farmed salmon have been found to be much higher than those found in wild salmon.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY RESEARCH TEAM DISCOVERS THE QUIRKY WORD OF THE DAY–hoary HAWR-ee, adjective:
1. Tedious from familiarity; stale.
2. Gray or white with age.
3. Ancient or venerable.
Compare that with the elements of a musical in about 1920: the star in a cliche story that was merely a framing device for generic musical numbers, hoary joke-book gags, and the usual specialty performers in a staging more often than not by a hack.
— Ethan Mordden, Coming Up Roses
Had Mozart lived to the hoary old age of 73, he might indeed have fallen out of favor in an era besotted with Rossini, becoming a “largely forgotten, neglected, unperformed composer.”
— Marilyn Stasio, “Crime”, New York Times, June 23, 1996
Hoary derives from Middle English hor, from Old English har, “gray; old (and gray-haired).”
INDIANA’S RAG TOPS AUTO MUSEUM COLLECTION TO BE OFFERED
AT AUCTIONS AMERICA BY RM’S AUBURN FALL SALE
· Auctions America by RM to present 68 vehicles and a selection of vintage motorcycles from Indiana’s Rag Tops Auto Museum Collection ‘without reserve’ at its Auburn Fall Collector Car Weekend, September 1 – 4, 2011
· Collection spans almost a century of automotive history, highlighted by a host of great American classics from the 1950s through 1970s
· A popular choice for private collections, Auctions America by RM’s multi-day Auburn Fall sale to also feature a selection of vehicles from a private Pennsylvania and a private Michigan collection
AUBURN, Indiana (July 27, 2011) – Auctions America by RM will lift the gavel on 68 vehicles and a selection of vintage motorcycles from Indiana’s well-known Rag Tops Auto Museum Collection when its second annual Auburn Fall Collector Car Weekend gets underway, September 1 – 4, 2011.
Located in Michigan City, Indiana, the Rag Tops Auto Museum – in operation from 2003 until 2011 – was regarded as Northwest Indiana’s largest antique auto and memorabilia museum, well-known by automotive enthusiasts. Following the museum’s closure earlier this year, 68 vehicles from the collection along with a selection of vintage motorcycles will be offered ‘without reserve’ at Auction America by RM’s upcoming Auburn Fall sale.
“Auctions America by RM is thrilled to present the Rag Tops Auto Museum Collection at our second annual Auburn Fall Collector Car Auction in September,” says Donnie Gould, President, Auctions America by RM. “The offering is a great celebration of America’s rich automotive history, encompassing a wide range of marques and eras, and we expect it will attract strong interest from collectors across the continent.”
Spanning from the early 1900s through to 2000, the Rag Tops Auto Museum Collection caters to a diverse range of automotive tastes, with a particular emphasis on American classics from the 1950s through 1970s. Among a long list of notable highlights set for the auction block: an ultra-rare 1957 DeSoto Firedome Convertible (Est. $140,000 – $180,000); a rare, fully-restored 1958 Dodge Coronet Convertible (Est. $70,000 – $95,000); and a superbly restored 1970 Plymouth Superbird, showing just 56,000 miles (Est. $100,000 – $125,000). More recent automotive design is represented by a nearly-new 1999 Shelby Series I Roadster, boasting just 498 miles (Est. $90,000 – $120,000), and a 2001 Darryl Gwynn / Mike Dunn Top-Fuel Dragster ($50,000 – $100,000), as formerly sponsored by the New York Yankees and autographed by various Yankees players including Mariano Rivera, David Wells, Scott Brosius as well as former Manager, Joe Torre (pictured right). The motorcycle offering is headlined by a 1958 Harley-Davidson FLH Panhead (Est. $15,000 – $25,000).
Having presented four successful sales since its formation in July 2010, Auctions America by RM is quickly earning a reputation as an auction house of choice for private collections; the Rag Tops Auto Museum Collection will be joined at the company’s Auburn Fall sale by a select group of 39 vehicles from a private Pennsylvania collection, in addition to 17 vehicles from a private Michigan collection, all to be offered ‘without reserve’.
Highlights from the Pennsylvania collection include: a 1948 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet (Est. $40,000 – $60,000); a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster (Est. $35,000 – $40,000); and a 1982 Excalibur Boattail (Est. $35,000 – $45,000). The Michigan-based collection is equally diverse; notable entries include a 1966 Plymouth Hemi Satellite (Est. $50,000 – $70,000); a 1970 Dodge T/A Challenger (Est. $55,000 – $65,000); and a 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo (Est. $80,000 – $100,000).
The 2011 Auburn Fall Collector Car Weekend will be held September 1 – 4 at the Auburn Auction Park, Auburn, Indiana. General admission is $15 for a day pass or $40 for the entire weekend, which includes access to the auction, swap meet and car corral, and special Hot Rod & Custom Car Seminar, along with parking. Children 12 years of age and under are admitted for free.
The Auburn Fall Collector Car Weekend will be closely followed by Auction America by RM’s Fall Carlisle Auction, held during Carlisle Events’ 2011 ‘Fall Carlisle’ show, September 29 – October 1 at the Carlisle (PA) Expo Center, to wrap up an exciting month of auction action.

BIKERNET ECONOMIC QUOTE OF THE DAY– “The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.
Increasing America ’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

KENTUCKY MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION EDITOR’S NOTE– The KMA/KBA is a member of the Kentucky Confederation of Clubs. This is a very worthwhile cause in which we can help our own and not send money to various charities who may or may not help the biker community in return. The KMA/KBA does not get involved in many charity items for that exact reason. However all monies raised for this clinic will go to help fellow bikers in need.
Good Cause #1
A free biker medical clinic is starting up in Beaverdam, KY at the Soldiers for Christ M/M’s facility. The Kentucky COC (Confederation of Clubs) is helping to start this up. We hope to have it open by Jan 2012 if all goes well. Heavy from the Soldiers for Christ is working very hard to help get this going, along with members of the COC. This clinic is for bikers and bikers families. We will have the right to refuse service to anyone we want. We have doctors and nurses already volunteered to help see people.
This is very costly to get going so if anybody wants to DONATE money, time, equipment or other items to help we would greatly appreciate any support you could provide. We also need office chairs, examining tables, dentist chair and about any kind of medical equipment that is used in a clinic. There will be no NARCOTICS available through this clinic. We are in the beginning stages but we hope that things will move very fast so we can get open and get to helping bikers and there families. So please see it in your HEARTS to help with this very costly task. At this time if you would like to donate money for this you can make checks payable to the KY COC

Good Cause #2
In the Northern District #4 we have a special place in our hearts for the Children’s Home of Northern KY located in Devou Park. Until the early 90’s motorcycles were prohibited in Devou Park. Thanks to some excellent lobbying efforts by KMA/KBA members at the time, the restriction was lifted and to celebrate the Northern District kind of adopted the Children’s Home as its special charity to help.
Over the years we have held a variety of events at the Home with the boys. Each of the boys at the Home are in the foster care system and have come to the Home for a variety reasons, but typically due to problems of some type within their own families. I have had the pleasure to also teach at the Boys’ Home during the school year from time to time and have had a great experience with the boys each and every time. So let me get to my point.
On Aug. 20th in conjunction with Biker’s Church in Florence, KY we will be holding our annual summer picnic with the boys and afterward taking them to the Florence Freedom Baseball game. We have been taking the boys to the Florence Freedom for the past several years and they have enjoyed the time immensely each outing. Tickets for the ballgame are $10 per person. First off I am asking if anyone would like to sponsor a kid or two and purchase a ticket for them?
If you would, please call me at 800-68-CYCLE or email at president@kmakba.com for arrangements. Secondly I would like to invite you and your family to come and spend the afternoon with us at either the Boys Home for a picnic and/or the ballgame that evening. If you would like to purchase a ticket(s) for yourself, family and friends they are just $10 each.
I will have a group of tickets reserved just for us along the 1st base line with motorcycle parking nearby. Please join us on Aug. 20th for our annual KMA/KBA family day and if you can please help sponsor one of the kids from the Boy’s Home to the game as well.
Thanks for your support.

THE DRIVING AND DRINKING CODE OF THE WEST– I would just like to share an experience with you all, and it has to do with drinking and driving. As you know some of us have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd soiree over the years?
Well, I for one have done something about it: Last night I was out for a few drinks with some pals and had way too many Captain Morgan and Cokes as well as a few shooters. Knowing full well I was wasted, I did something I’ve never done before – I took a Bus home. I arrived home safely and without incident, which was a real surprise, since I had never driven a bus before!!

TRIKE DEAL OF THE WEEK FROM NEGOTIABLE–Just $4,500. Ran when parked 10yrs ago. Cal Title
Dear Wisconsin NRA member activists & NRA Leaders–
Today our long fought battles are now a victory. The signing of the Concealed Carry law, Sen. GALLOWAY/REP. MURSAU is the result of a 17-year logical progression.
When Gov. Walker finally signs this legislation, let’s properly recognize the 1,000s of grass roots, heart & Soul volunteers. They literally preached at restaurants, gas stations, festivals, taverns and etc.
I. LEGISLATIVE LEGACY:
1994 – Concealed Carry first drafted in Sen. Zien’s office by Jeff Kovieski & Bob Seitz.
1995 – Preemption (Sen. Gary Drzwiecki, Zien, Welch, Lasse & Johnsrud). Sen. Zien’s office was the command center for all sportsmen, veterans, gun, and patriotic issues until 2006.
1998 – Range Protection (Sen. Zien/Rep. Huebish).
1998 – Right to keep & Bear Arms (RKBA) – (Sen.Zien/Rep. Gunderson).
2002 – Personal Protection Act – Victim of procedural hanky panky).
2004 – Personal Protection Act/Concealed carry SB357 (Sen. Zien/Rep. Gunderson) Vetoed by Gov. Doyle, over ride failed by one vote.
2006 – Personal Protection Act/Concealed Carry passed again – Vetoed by Gov. Doyle, over ride failed, again, by two votes.
NRA Building (2006 – Highway of Honor – Citizen Soldiers Hwy 27.Coalitons
(2006 – Bridges of Honor – Wis. Firefigher-EMT/citizen Soldiers Bridge & Wis. Law Enforcement/citizens Soldiers bridge on Hwy 29 near Chippewa Falls. (Sen. Zien)
II. Amazing Facts & Feats
*RKBA/PPA were some of the largest statewide petition drives ever in Wis.
See the bulletin of proceedings.
*Sporting Heritage Foundation, the only Wis. organization to champion & Spearhead two
Wis. constitutional changes – RTKBA/RTHF – 1998 & 2003.
Tony & Sharon Simington coordinated over 1 million letters, petitions and signatures to the
Wis. 132 lawmakers, Gov. Lt. Gov and AG (5 copy machines were worn out).
*Rep. Gary Sherman (D) was the 1st lawmaker/NRA life member in the USA to be responsible for defeating a major NRA proposal (Surprise! Gov. Doyle appointed him Judge!).
*No other state has passed key NRA supported legislation so fast (1995-2002).
*Darin LaSorte is the best legislative liaison in all 50 states, he deserves a raise.

AT LAST TORT REFORM–Not Just a Lawsuit Reform Bill — An American Jobs Bill–
Tell Congress to Stop Stalling and Support this Bill. TORT REFORM COULD SAVE THE ECONOMY AND OUR MEDICAL INDUSTRY
This spring, we emailed you about a common sense bill in Congress called the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act.
This bill, introduced by Rep. Lamar Smith (TX) and Sen. Charles Grassley (IA), would impose mandatory sanctions against lawyers who file frivolous lawsuits in federal court.
Now, more than ever, America needs this lawsuit reform law.
According to a study we released last year, the tort liability price tag for American small businesses alone topped $105 billion in 2008. These are the same small businesses that have created 64% of all net new jobs in this country during the past fifteen years.
Small businesses are the key to America’s jobs recovery — and protecting them from the threat of lawsuit abuse is vital to getting them back on their feet.
Unfortunately, the trial lawyer lobbyists are trying their hardest to block passage of the Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act.
Please email your members of Congress to urge them to support this vital lawsuit reform bill (check the U.S. Chamber of Commerce web site).
Right now, we need our small businesses investing in new jobs — rather than legal fees, court costs and outrageous lawsuit settlements.
Lawsuit abuse also leads to higher insurance costs, which is yet another costly hit to the bottom line of these job creators.
The Lawsuit Abuse Reduction Act isn’t just a lawsuit reform bill. It’s a jobs bill.
ASS KICKED AGAIN–We are rapidly rolling into the final weekend of preparation before the run to Sturgis. I’m scrambling to write another Cantina episode. It’s summer and the girls have gone wild. Hang on for this one.
I would like to publish my Victory Review, since we had a blast riding three of them to the Smoke Out. And I would like to rough out another Mudflap girl build article, since we are making serious progress. If we had another month we would be riding them to Sturgis.
We just received a feature on a Todd’s Cycle flat track racing buell. It’s crazy and Greg Friend put the feature together. The long time editor of Street Choppers is out there working for clients in the industry, and you’ll see more features from him in the near future. He promised another segment of his little big twin build in the near future.
There you have it. Have a terrific weekend and if you’re riding to Sturgis, becareful, goddamnit. If you see a black hearse pulling a couple of bikes, it could be the Bikernet gang.
Ride Forever,
