THE CODE OF THE WEST BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for April 7, 2016

Hey,

Hang on for this news. The world may be in turmoil and our government forgot their mission to honor freedom, but we’re still having a blast everyday and keeping the Code of the West alive.

Folks reach out to us for jobs constantly. We must be doing something right. As magazines slip away we endeavored to help staff members with freelance assignments. “If you come into the chips, keep me in mind for a full time assignment,” said a Texas correspondent today. When it comes to this industry we always try to help out.

Remember, Loud Pipes Save Lives. The Bikernet news is sponsored in part by Cycle Source Magazine, Iron Trader, and ChopperTown.

THE VETERANS COLUMN Support Our Heroes and Engage Your Employees–
Since 2003, Operation Gratitude has distributed 1,497,405 care packages to the Military and First Responder communities. This unique accomplishment was made possible entirely through volunteer efforts–including yours!

We are grateful for your previous support of our service members and want to extend a special invitation to join us again in 2016. As we march closer to our 2 Millionth Care Package, we are excited to work with great partners like you to reach this historic milestone. Please take a moment to read about some of the meaningful ways your company and your employees can engage in our mission.

In 2015 alone, 58,626 Operation Gratitude volunteers from across the country assembled 214,453 care packages. Our volunteers engage in a myriad of hands-on activities: They organize product collection drives, write letters, hand knit hats and scarves, weave paracord bracelets, collect funds to offset shipping, and more.

These volunteer efforts keep our expenses low and our production high! Last year, our percentage of overhead expenses was a mere 5%….meaning that a full 95% of all donations was devoted directly to serving our heroes.

We also work with many types of companies, both large and small. In 2015, we partnered with 6,840 businesses to provide meaningful opportunities for their employees to say “thank you” to those who serve our nation.

Here are some of the ways your business can join our efforts in 2016:

Product Donations: We fill our care packages primarily through Corporate Product Sponsorship and/or business-hosted Collection Drives. Each Care Package contains approximately 50 items, such as socks, t-shirts, hats, DVDs, CDs, small plush toys, games, novelties, stationery, toothpaste, sunscreen, lip balm, foot powder, as well as handmade gifts such as scarves, paracord bracelets and letters of appreciation from caring people of all ages across the country.

No donation is too large or too small. Some companies send us 25 of one item while others send 25,000 or more!

Care Kit and Hand-Made Item Events:
Operation Gratitude helps businesses host hands-on Volunteer Care Kit Events at their offices, retreats, conferences and trade shows. In 2015, we facilitated 87 offsite events nationwide, engaging employees, customers and other attendees to create care kits for our Military and First Responders. Large and small groups looking for team-building activities have found this to be a powerful experience.

Assemble Care Packages at our Facility: Operation Gratitude organizes volunteer days year-round at our facility in Southern California, affectionately referred to as “The FOB” (Forward Operating Base: Operation Gratitude). Local businesses join the general public at The FOB to put together care packages and participate in a variety of other hands-on activities.

We invite both small businesses and large corporate partners to join us throughout the year. Working with Operation Gratitude is not only an engaging, team-building experience, but also allows your employees, customers and vendors to connect with the Military and First Responder communities in a deep and heartfelt way.

If you are interested in learning more, please send us an email at info@operationgratitude.com and we will set up a call at your earliest convenience. We would love to speak with you!

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY NOW OPEN– A new business was opening and one of the owner’s friends wanted to send him flowers for the occasion. They arrived at the new business site and the owner read the card, which said: “Rest in Peace.” The owner was angry and called the florist to complain.

After he had told the florist of the obvious mistake and how angry he was, the florist replied: “Sir, I’m really sorry for the mistake, but rather than getting angry, you should imagine this – somewhere, there is a funeral taking place today, and they have flowers with a note saying: ‘Congratulations on your new location!'”

HORSEPOWER SCORE OF THE WEEK—
We recently heard about a 126-inch twin cam with headwork that hit 155 Horses and 135 Pounds of Torque. The engine and heads were modified by George Bryce. Don’t tell the EPA.

High performance motorcycles are their passion

In 1980 George Bryce and his wife Jackie founded Star Racing to support the motorcycle drag racing community. Our high performance motorcycle company has evolved into a successful mail-order parts business, with engine building and machine shop services. Our state-of-the art machine shop houses a 5-axis Haas CNC machine, Sunnen boring and honing equipment, Spintron, DTS, and Superflow engine dynos, and a DynoJet chassis dyno.

Celebrating our 35th anniversary in 2015, Star specializes in parts for older drag bikes and late model sport bikes. We stock a large and varied selection of race products including ignition and head components, valves, sprockets, gaskets, chains, wheels, brakes, nitrous systems, carbs, pistons and rings, clutch plates and chassis components in our on site warehouse. Our high performance parts store is continually updated with new 4-cylinder parts and v-twin parts.

Star Racing has also evolved into the development of late-model hot rod V-Twins for both the street and strip. We now stock a full line of S&S engines and support parts for drag racing enthusiasts, as well as for other motorcyclists, dealers and distributors. Our web site, www.starracing.com, is continually updated with the latest race press releases, photos, engines in stock and information on our latest creations.

OVERCOMING FEARS—
FLYING: First, know the odds of going down are about 11 million to one. Start practicing deep-breatheing exercises a few days before your flight. You can calm yourself, or you might find therapy sessions at some airports.

LIGHTNING: You want to be smart in an electrical storm, not panicky. To tame a fear of lightning—or many other phobias—consider virtual-reality exposure therapy, which involves facing your fears ina VR headset.

SPIDERS AND SNAKES:
Therapies involving direct exposure to the objects of your fears are widely available, too, through behavioral therapists listed at abct.org. During a single session many patients go from observing a caged spider to petting tarantulas.

ELEVATORS:
Breathing techniques can help calm elevator anxiety, which is often caused by claustrophobia.

LITTLE MICK SPEAKS OUT IN AUSTRALIA–
United Motorcycle Council speaks out about changes to Aussie anti-biker laws.

United Motorcycle Council (UMC) spokesman Mick Kosenko (Little Reb) said the Government should have scrapped the laws altogether.

“I feel we helped Labor get across the line in the election — they know we helped them?” he said.

“People didn’t want these laws, the general public didn’t want these laws. It got [former LNP premier] Campbell Newman booted out and Labor’s just done a big turnaround.”

UMC lawyer Zeke Bentley said the group could challenge the laws in the High Court.

“We’ll be getting right together looking at all opportunities for a High Court attack because from what I’ve heard they’re going to keep a lot of the bad law in play,” he said.

A previous High Court bid to overthrow anti-biker laws failed as the plaintiff was deemed to be not sufficiently affected by the laws

KEY FINDINGS OF THE REVIEW INTO QUEENSLAND’S ANTI-BIKER LAWS

* In two years since the VLAD and associated laws were introduced, there was a reduction of 124 members in ‘criminal gang’ numbers, to 798.

* Areas of the 2013 legislation remain vulnerable to challenge on constitutional grounds.

* Amendments to bail laws, which introduced a presumption against bail in cases involving alleged club members, were excessive and unnecessary.

* If the offences introduced into the Criminal Code in 2013 were repealed and not replaced, public safety may be compromised, according to law enforcement agencies.

* Recruitment by ‘criminal gangs’ continued since the 2013 changes, albeit with a reduced public profile, and new chapters were being established in late 2014.

* 43 people were charged with the anti-association offence between October 2013 and January 2016, but there were no convictions.

* 292 people were charged with being a vicious lawless associate between October 2013 and December 2015, according to QPS figures, but only 10 per cent were club members, seven per cent were associates, and 82 per cent had no known links to motorcycle clubs.

* There were more than 7300 offenders in Queensland jails in June 2015 but there were only 32 club members and 82 suspected members.

* Between July 2014 and December 2015, QPS received 43,771 applications for tattoo licenses and only 13 were deemed to be unsuitable to hold a license.

I wish they would perform a similar analysis around their law makers. They might be forced to call them a criminal organization and ban them.–Renegade

245 Dirt Bike and ATV Riders Sought by DC Police–

D.C. police are cracking down on people who illegally ride dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles on city streets — and they’re asking for help from the public.

Surveillance images of 245 persons of interest were released Thursday by the Metropolitan Police Department, which is offering a $250 reward for tips. All of the photos can be viewed in a document on the police department’s website.

Residents of D.C., Maryland and Virginia are fed up with dirt bike and ATV riders who swarm streets, Police Chief Cathy Lanier said. Riders recently injured a D.C. police officer and stopped an ambulance transporting a sick child,

“We have had enough, our community has had enough, and the riders that we can identify, we are going to aggressively prosecute,” she said. “The bikes we have seized will be destroyed.”

Lanier spoke Thursday morning at a meeting of law enforcement officials from across the region, including members of the Prince George’s County Police Department, Maryland State Police and United States Park Police.

It is illegal to ride a dirt bike or ATV on D.C. streets, sidewalks, alleyways and trails. Riders have hit police officers and civilians, and 14 riders still are sought in connection with the May 2015 shooting death of reporter Charnice Milton.

A D.C. police officer was hit over the weekend by a group of ATV and dirt bike riders, as News4 previously reported. Lanier said the officer is off-duty after being injured.

“They made contact with his bike and dragged him,” the police chief said.

Officers recovered an ATV involved, but have not identified the rider.

How to Report an ATV or Dirt Bike Rider

If you see an ATV or dirt bike being operated illegally in D.C., take note of how you can describe the rider, vehicle and location, police say on the department’s website. Call 202-727-9099 and report what you saw.

If your tip leads to the identification of the rider and the seizure of the vehicle, the MPD’s Command Information Center will give you a tip-tracking number you can use to collect a $250 reward.

How DC Officials Are Cracking Down on ‘Menacing and Dangerous’ Riders

Dirt bikes and ATVs confiscated in D.C. will be destroyed starting in May, Lanier said.

“We want to be able to turn these into scrap,” Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice Kevin Donahue said.

D.C. officials are pursuing legislation that would strengthen their ability to keep dirt bikes and ATVS being ridden illegally. The vehicles can be destroyed if they are found without serial numbers or licenses, but they cannot be destroyed if they have that identifying information. Under the current system, the same bike has been seized by police and recovered multiple times by different people, Donahue said.

Attorney General Karl A. Racine said riders can expect to be charged.

“[Riders] may think that they’re just going out for a joyride, but they’re causing a menacing and dangerous atmosphere, and they will be prosecuted,” he said.

Between July 2013 and July 2015, about 169 arrests of dirt bike and ATV riders were referred to prosecutors, Racine said. About 85 percent of those cases were prosecuted. From July 2015 to Wednesday, prosecutors received 34 cases, and more are expected.

The offenders are mostly young adults age 18 to 24, but some are grown men, Racine said. First-time offenders usually are sentenced with probation.

INDIAN SCOUT USED IN WALL OF DEATH SPEED GUINESS WORLD RECORDS TITLE

Racer/daredevil Guy Martin accomplishes feat broadcast live March 28 on Channel 4 in the UK

Indian Motorcycle, America’s first motorcycle company, is proud to announce that accomplished English road racer and flourishing daredevil TV presenter Guy Martin used an Indian Scout motorcycle to prepare for a new world record he recently set for the fastest speed around a ‘Wall of Death’.

The feat was televised live on Channel 4 in the UK on March 28 and immediately certified as a Guinness World Record. A silo-shaped cylinder made of wooden planks, a Wall of Death installation usually ranges from 20 to 36 feet in diameter. Motorcyclists traveling along the vertical wall of the silo at a typical speed of approx. 20 mph are held in place by centrifugal force. To reach the 60 mph Martin needed to achieve, yet limit the g-force plying his body, the Wall of Death built for him in an otherwise unused hangar featured a 387-ft. circumference.

Viewers saw Martin set the overall speed record on his own custom-built motorcycle, but to prepare for the live attempt, he used an Indian Scout supplied by Krazy Horse, an Indian Motorcycle dealership in Bury St Edmunds, UK.

Riding the Indian Scout, Martin hit 60.1 mph – an instant Guinness World Record – on his first attempt and reached a confirmed 70.33 mph on his second attempt. Then he switched to his own custom-built BSA R3 powered by aviation fuel. The result: 78.15 mph, the speed logged for the official Guinness World Record.

The Indian Scout Martin rode was a standard machine lightly prepared by Krazy Horse to be ‘Wall ready’. Add-ons included Renthal handlebars, lay-back risers, modified lower frame struts to accommodate foot-plates, 18″ wheels, a shortened rear fender and a special paint job.

“Seeing Guy ride the Indian Scout in preparation for the live show and initially setting a new world record was an extremely proud moment for us,” says Jim Clarke, Country Manager for Polaris UK & Ireland. “It’s testament to the Scout that a production motorcycle with very little modification could ride around that gigantic Wall of Death and help to set a new World Record.”

WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO ALMOST 400 MPH?
Chance of a lifetime. Dennis Manning is planning another run at the salt. In 1970, as a young man he built a bike and Carl Rayburn rode it to 265 mph. But then he got serious and in 2006 he took the Motorcycle World Land Speed Record from our Easyriders team (321 mph) after 16 years and boosted it to over 350 mph with an engine he built. He lost it to a dual Hyabusa streamliner in 2008 and took it back in 2009 at 367 mph, and then lost it again in 2011 by the same Ack Attack team.

He wants it back bad and he’s looking for sponsors. He’s also looking for a new hungry rider and I suggested Valerie Thompson. Whoever it is needs to bring the bucks and strong sponsor opportunities. This is not a cheap endeavor. I know our own 5-Ball team member, Ray C. Wheeler, will get in line, and he has the sponsors to back him.

Hang on for more reports.

UNCLE MONKEY ON DEALING WITH H-D DEALERS–
After dealing with Yorkton Harley Davidson for a couple decades it is disappointing for them to tell me that they no longer want my business. New owners, new managers mean new philosophies.

My custom built, restored, and/or rebuilt motorcycles have no place in their dealership. I had noticed a changing of the guard since the newness. Common parts, parts that are still used on current models are now obsolete and not available. Orders were arriving wrong, and the staff is fragmented.

It is disappointing to see the slide. I never had to shop there. In fact it is two hours out of my way each way to reach them. I made the trip because they were a dealership that valued motorcycles regardless of the age.

Without exception all of the Harley’s I’ve owned have rolled through their doors one way or another, whether they were first sold there or I returned it there to be sold to a new rider. My riding group purchases a new bike every year from them to raffle off.

For my part I always thought I was a good customer. I usually know the part and part number of what I am ordering – know the price and didn’t balk if it is a little higher than it should be. Whenever one of my bikes would find its way onto the showroom floor I have always been forward about what has been done, what needs to be done. They had always been there for me.

While the previous owner embraced the heritage and tradition that was once protected by the bar and shield, the corporate opinion that is being whispered into dealer’s ears is to ignore the past and push only the future. Most dealers have embraced this.

As I travel around, I find it is the norm to shun riders who do not ride the newest machine, wear the $800 distressed leather jacket. It is actually jarring to find a dealer and staff who don’t have problems with ten year old bikes, dealers who appreciate an Evo, Shovel, Pan or Knuckle and Flathead.

We’ve all seen it. Hated it for what it was. The dive bar where we spent the better part of our life gets new owners, a new coat of faux paint and becomes a hipster bar. The steakhouse adds a vegan section. The cute teller at the bank gets replaced with an old bitter hag.

Good dealers go bad, bad mechanics replace the good. The park we love gets over grown. The brewery decides our beer needs lime. We no longer are their customer, no longer who they want. To them we are old and worn out as everything else they are throwing out.

For me I’ll have to find a new dealer, find an independent shop, find a new home, refuge for old bikes, for an old biker.

–bad Uncle Monkey

REACTIONS TO MERLE HAGGARD’S PASSING FROM THE COUNTRY MUSIC COMMUNITY AND BEYOND–

We’ve lost one of the greatest writers and singers of all time. His heart was as tender as his love ballads. I loved him like a brother. Rest easy, Merle. — Dolly Parton

We’ve lost another hero. Now he doesn’t have to be in pain anymore. I know he’s not suffering anymore. I just can’t imagine a world without Merle. It’s so hard to accept, but I’ll continue honoring him on stage just as I do during every show. We played a lot of gigs together through the years, but some of my fondest memories were hanging out in a natural setting, like the time we sat there by the river in his backyard and ate bologna sandwiches. Merle was a simple man with incredible talent like no other. And now he’s up there singing with George [Jones] and all the angels. Love you, Merle. — Tanya Tucker

Merle Haggard was an original. Not just a singer, not just a songwriter, not just another famous performer. He was your common everyday working man. I remember when I was 15 years old on tour with Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. They both were wondering which one of the two was going to make it. Well, they both made it. Today, ole Merle joined Waylon, George, and daddy to sing in the Heavenly choir.
— Hank Williams, Jr.

My heart is broken over the loss of one of the greatest country singers ever. He was an icon to me. He took me to school with his phrasing, his songwriting and style – and he was undoubtedly one of my greatest influences. Getting to sing with him several times over the years will be memories I cherish forever. He was such a great man, on stage and off. — Gene Watson

Merle Haggard was one of the greatest songwriters, performers and story-tellers that ever lived. I grew up on his music and am I’m so saddened by his passing.
— Kiefer Sutherland

I am deeply saddened to hear of Merle’s passing. He was a dear friend, I remember touring with him at various points throughout the 90’s and those are memories that I will always cherish. I hate that he lived so far away from us these last few years, but definitely understand it. My hope is that he passed a happy and content man. I learned so much from this kind man about singing, when Merle Haggard sang you paid attention. He is about as close to perfection in country music as we will probably ever have.
— Lorrie Morgan

I am devastated over the loss of Merle Haggard. He was my absolute favorite of ALL time. I have listened to him since I was a kid. His poetry, his voice and his pure country music style will live forever. I am listening to him sing Sweet Jesus with The Oak Ridge Boys as I write this. SO honored to have recorded this Dove Award winning song with my HERO! Rest Easy Hag… Until The Day…“Jesus… Sweet Jesus…You love me just as I am… Jesus… Sweet Jesus… I’ve been washed in the Blood of the Lamb!” — Joe Bonsall / Oak Ridge Boys

A few years ago Merle sent me a song he wanted The Oak Ridge Boys to record. He’d written it with Kenny Vernon. When I heard it, I felt there was no way we could do it unless we asked Merle to do it with us.

His response was, “Anything you ‘Boys’ want.”

So, we recorded “Sweet Jesus,” and it won a Gospel Music Association Dove Award for Best Country Song. It was a huge honor to sing with one of our biggest heroes, Merle Haggard.

May he rest in peace in the arms of Sweet Jesus. — Duane Allen / Oak Ridge Boys

Merle was a singer’s singer, a musician’s musician, and a songwriter’s songwriter. He set the feelings of the everyday common man to music, creating songs that will outlive us all. I feel privileged to have toured with him and known him as both a great artist and as a friend. His passing leaves a big hole in country music and in the hearts of the millions who loved him and his artistry. — Bill Anderson

Merle always treated me like a true friend treats his true friends. We had great fun every time we worked together. He was one of the good ones. Getting to see God’s face on your birthday, what a wonderful gift!
— T. Graham Brown

George and I loved Merle so much. George would always say nobody could ever sing like Merle Haggard. Merle was one of our Country Heroes. Now, George and Merle are together again singing with the Angel Band.
— Nancy Jones

We join the world of the broken hearted hearing of the death of Merle Haggard. One of the first things John and I realized we had in common was our love of Haggard songs. What a blessing to have had a chance to get to know him and work with such a legend in our career. Merle, guess you finally are on the ultimate Natural High. We will have your music in our hearts and souls and honkytonk nights forever! God Bless the great Merle Haggard. May you fly with the Angels. — ‘Big Kenny’ Alphin / Big & Rich

“Mighty” Merle Haggard was the greatest country songwriter of ALL TIME. We shared many great memories, and I will miss him. Merle set the bar so high no one will ever top it. He refused to bend and turn to the whims of the music industry throughout the decades, and instead remained a steady ship of constant greatness that every artist could look up to and aspire to be. I had the distinct honor of becoming his friend and spent priceless time picking guitars on the back of his bus, doing videos together, and I soaked up every drop of soul from him every chance I got. You take your hat off when you shake hands with Merle Haggard. You listen and pay attention and realize that you are in the company of one of God’s prize creations. I will miss him. I bet Heaven has swingin’ doors today. — John Rich / Big & Rich

We’ve lost another great one. Merle leaves a great legacy behind, the songs, the styling, the phrasing….to study Merle’s musical style was to immerse yourself in the heart of Country. For months we’ve been planning a Tribute to Merle, the guest have been invited and Merle had it on his calendar. We will miss him greatly. Now the tribute will be a honoring of the man his songs, his music and his life. — Larry Black, Larry’s Country Diner

BADASS RISERS FROM LOWBROS–
Biltwell Inc. Murdock Risers Chrome – 10 inch.
Club style has gotten plenty of play in recent years on tough-guy TV shows, but the truth is far less silly or sensational: flat bars with tall risers are really comfortable during long, fast days in the saddle.

To satisfy bikeriders who prefer this setup, Biltwell introduces their Murdock risers. Available in 6-, 8- and 10-inch heights, Murdock risers feature investment-cast steel top clamps and lower threaded bases, and are connected by two 1-inch O.D. x 0.120-inch (3mm) wall seamless 4130 chromoly tubes.

After TIG welding the finished unit is hand polished and triple chrome or satin black plated for style and durability. The threaded bases on Murdock risers are on 3.5-inch (89mm) centers to fit most stock and aftermarket H-D triple trees with removable bar clamps.

Of course, the bolt pattern on the Biltwell Murdock riser’s one-piece handlebar clamp fits stock H-D speedo and tach brackets.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON WRECKING CREW IS READY TO RACE WITH LEGENDARY INTENSITY– With fire in their eyes and wide-open throttles, an elite squad of four determined flat-track aces will race as the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Wrecking Crew on the 2016 AMA Pro Harley-Davidson GNC1 presented by Vance & Hines flat track series.

Independent riders Jake Johnson and Kenny Coolbeth Jr. will join Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Factory Team riders Brad Baker and Davis Fisher on the Harley-Davidson Wrecking Crew this season. Each is a defending or former AMA champion, ready to chase down another title while clad in Harley-Davidson leathers.

“What a collection of talent we’ve been able to bring together for the Wrecking Crew for 2016,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Kris Schoonover. “These are four of the top flat track racers in the world right now and Harley-Davidson hopes to see the Wrecking Crew fill the podium at each AMA Pro Harley-Davidson GNC1 race.”

The Wrecking Crew riders will compete with passion and intensity befitting the long history of Harley-Davidson racing. Part of that story is currently being told at the Harley-Davidson Museum in its special exhibit “Racing Machines from the KR to the XR” that explores the role the Harley-Davidson engineering team played in creating the legendary bikes that have dominated race tracks for three decades after World War II.

Race competition seen through the camera lens is also the focus of “Race Day: Photos from the Flat Track” that explores the work of preeminent racing photographer Dave Hoenig, a special exhibit also at the H-D Museum until Sept. 5, 2016.

The original Wrecking Crew was the official Harley-Davidson factory team that dominated motorcycle racing on dirt and board tracks in the early 1920s with talented racers that included Red Parkhurst, Otto Walker, Fred Ludlow and later Joe Petrali. In 1968, Harley-Davidson Class C dirt track and road racing teams won 18 National Championships out of a possible 23 and the Wrecking Crew nickname was revived. In 2006, the official Harley-Davidson Wrecking Crew was reformed to include the Factory Team and select riders racing for independent, teams that receive support from Harley-Davidson.

Check Harley-Davidson.com for a full listing of this season’s races; also follow Harley-Davidson on Facebook for racing updates.

Brad “The Bullet” Baker will be racing for a third season on the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Factory Team. In 2015, Baker won on the Lima, Ohio, half-mile and the Indy Mile in Indianapolis and claimed two other podium spots. He missed four races due to injury and placed eighth in GNC1 series points. Baker was a bronze medalist at the inaugural Harley-Davidson Flat Track at X Games Austin 2015. Baker was just 20 years old when he won the 2013 AMA Grand National Championship riding for the Dodge Brothers Racing team. Baker won the AMA Pro Singles Championship in 2009 before moving up to the Expert Twins class and winning the 2011 AMA Pro Flat Track Expert Rookie of the Year Award.

Davis Fisher/Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® Factory Team

“Dashin’” Davis Fisher joins the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Factory Team for the 2016 flat track season following two impressive seasons racing in the AMA Pro Singles/GNC2 class. Riding for Parkinson Brothers Racing, Fisher won the 2015 GNC2 championship, dominating the series with four event wins and five second-place results. In 2014, Fisher finished second in AMA Pro Singles, missing that championship by a single point.

Kenny Coolbeth/Zanotti Racing

A three-time AMA Pro Grand National champion (2006-2008), the veteran Coolbeth has won 35 times in AMA Grand National competition, more than any active racer in the series. Coolbeth claimed three consecutive titles while racing for the Harley-Davidson Factory Team from 2006 to 2013. Aboard the Zanotti Racing Harley-Davidson XR750 in 2015, Coolbeth won twice and finished fourth in points. He was named the AMA Flat Track Rookie of the Year in 1994 and won his first Grand National race in 2002.

Jake Johnson/Zanotti Racing
Jake Johnson won consecutive AMA Pro Grand National championships (2010-2011) on Zanotti Racing Harley-Davidson XR750 motorcycles and has won 18 times in AMA Grand National competition. He returns to the Zanotti team for 2016. In 2015, Johnson raced for the Harley-Davidson Factory Team in four races filling in for injured Brad Baker and finished twice on the podium. Johnson won the AMA Pro Singles championship in 2006 and was AMA Flat Track Rookie of the Year in 2002.

YAMAHA TAKING SCOOTERS TO VIETNAM–
Motor Co., Ltd. announced today that it will exhibit the 04GEN scooter design concept model at the 2016 Vietnam Motorcycle Show. Taking place in Ho Chi Minh City from April 7 to 11, it will be the first motorcycle show event held in Vietnam.

The 04GEN was designed based on the RUN-WAY concept, which evokes the image of human form with an air of dignified elegance and grace in mind and body. Compared to regular scooter body structures – which hide the frame with exterior parts – the 04GEN only covers the frame with semi-transparent exterior parts.

Showcasing the beautifully-engineered interior structure brings a lightness to the majestic body, creating a new design which synthesizes the interior and exterior to achieve a rare beauty.

Yamaha Motor, which positioned design as a central pillar of product creation from its founding, established Refined Dynamism as its design philosophy in 2013, and is putting energy into developing products that realize the unique style of Yamaha. Based on this philosophy, Yamaha Motor has announced three design concepts to date: The 01GEN in 2014, a crossover motorcycle with two wheels at the front; the 02GEN, an alluring electrically power-assisted wheelchair, also announced in 2014; and in 2015 the 03GEN, mobility enhanced by optional colors, materials, and finishing for the TRICITY.

Yamaha Motor will continue exhibiting and advancing the GEN design concept whenever the opportunity arises.

MORE FROM THE AUSTRALIAN CLUB FRONT–
New Aussie anti-biker laws to be drawn up.

The government in the Aussie state of Queensland has announced it will introduce a new suite of laws designed to tackle organised crime on a much broader front than just targeting bikers.

Terry Goldsworthy – ex-Queensland cop and now academic explores the ramifications.
Terry says, “The release on Monday of a report recommended the state’s contentious anti-biker laws be replaced with more workable ones.

So, what will this mean for organized crime in Queensland – and more broadly in Australia?

The Queensland laws have been held out as a model for dealing with organized crime. Other states, such as Victoria and South Australia, have rushed to implement similar anti-association laws.

What did the taskforce call for?

The anti-association offences and mandatory sentencing provisions are the two most contentious elements of Queensland’s anti-biker laws. If the recommendations of the taskforce that reviewed the laws are followed, both would be replaced with new laws the government claims will be tougher, more workable and more readily enforceable.

This will be achieved by ensuring the laws are operationally strong and legally robust. According to the government, the new laws will be more likely to result in criminal convictions, which are absent currently.
The taskforce recommended replacing the anti-association provisions with laws similar to those in New South Wales. The NSW laws relate to convicted offenders associating with other criminals.

Queensland’s current laws treat all members of a group the same – regardless of their criminality.

The taskforce proposed the mandatory sentencing provisions be attached as an aggravating circumstance to the primary offence. In essence, this would mean someone is punished for their criminality – not for being a member of a group, as is currently the case. In Queensland, if someone is convicted currently of a crime that can be shown to be linked to organized crime, their sentence is increased.

Control orders are set to be implemented for those convicted of organized crime offences. These orders would allow conditions to be placed on a person who has been convicted of an organised crime offence. The aim is to control their behaviour in the community so as to prevent, restrict or disrupt them from engaging in further criminal activity.”

DAVID UHL AT ARIZONA BIKE WEEK–

As you may know, since 2005 artist David Uhl has created a special piece for Sturgis and Daytona Bike Week each year. This year David decided to do a commemorative piece for Arizona Bike Week event as well! David will be unveiling the piece on Friday at 4:00pm at Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale.

David’s model, Shelley Martin, is a well-known, very well-respected member of the Phoenix riding community. She tirelessly volunteers for several worthy causes and is a fixture in the Valley. A true rider, she organizes several rides out of Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale. Signed and numbered canvas prints are now available for purchase at special Rally pricing through April 15th. David will also include shipping within the contiguous 48 United States for orders placed before April 15.

These Fine Art prints will come framed with a Certificate of Authenticity. For our new collectors, these Rally-specific commemorative pieces are a great way to get into David’s work.

If you’re coming to Arizona Bike Week, we have a full gallery at Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale, right outside the front door. We’ll be there through Sunday. David will be in Arizona on Friday and Saturday.

TEARING UP THE STREETS—
We just made our lodging arrangements for Sturgis and the debate started about which way to go avoiding freeways all the way. Is it Monument Valley or Route 66?

We are making progress on our 5-Ball leather line. My grandson came over to buy a 5/8 Jack Shirt and stood in front of the gym mirror for an hour trying on different sizes. What happened to grabbing a jacket and peeling out?

Speaking of David Uhl, I ran across this magnificent, beautiful, 8-foot tall painting in Carson City, Nevada. It was in a restaurant packed with massive antique equipment and fire equipment. I want to reach out to Dave and find out about it.

Took this shot on the way back down the mountain from Carson City. The trans in the Bikernet van took a shit. We drove back mostly at about 55 mph. We only had first and second gear.

Just about to wrap up this feature from Ken’s Factory in Long Beach, California. It’s an amazing piece. And I have another tech from the Brew dude coming right up. Hang on.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
