THE MYSTERIOUS SUNDAY POST for January 24th, 2016

Hey,

Why is it that every morning you can wake up and change your thoughts. Maybe I’m a sensitive artist type and highly influenced by my surroundings.

The city wants to kick me out of my building, and I struggle with the VA, but then someone says something amazing to me, or complements Bikernet, and I can smile once more. Or a brother or sister remembers something I wrote 10 years ago and I’m moved.

Last night I was surrounded by the notorious Hamsters at a tribute to Barry Cooney, one of the original Hamsters, who is moving to Portland. Urban took me aside to explain about a recent tattoo. “You sent me to Mark Mahoney for my first tattoo, twenty years ago,” Urban said and started to roll up his sleeve. “I just got another one to show what a bad ass I am.”

On his thin, old forearm over a space about an inch-and-a-half by the same Mark inked in simple thick black lettering, “I’m Fine.” Then he turned his arm the opposite direction and it said, “Save Me.” What a bad ass. That’s Hamster humor.

WHEN YOU CAN’T GIVE UP, WRITE–

A Brief Manifesto.

I have a bitch and a project that could save the custom motorcycle aftermarket and place freedom at the forefront of our nation once more.

Sounds ominous but it’s not, then again it is a tough alteration to current government thinking. And I believe our industry could be at the forefront.

Why can’t we prove that Freedom always needs to be a consideration. Why can’t we prove that all the custom motorcycles in the country will never have any significant impact on the environment and agencies need to leave us alone.

If we were successful, this could place Freedom at the forefront in many applications from hot rods, to go carts, to speed boats.

Could this become a priority in 2016?

A comment from the publisher:

Great! I would also consider adding that the inherent freedom in people that work with their hands is at risk at the same time since 65% or the motorcycle industry is the mom and pop shop.

Many of the manufacturers who serve it are from the small manufacturing segment and need the support of those who would discourage government agencies from marginalizing their ability to make and offering the custom market and make a living to boot.

RARE MOTORCYCLE FIND OF THE WEEK–
Secret hoard of ultra-rare motorcycles found in barn— The motorcycles from Brough Superior were some of the highest-performing bikes before World War II, and collectors like Jay Leno continue to prize the capability and craftsmanship of these rare cycles.

Now, eight more will head to the auction block at Bonhams on April 24 thanks to a trove of recently discovered barn finds in the UK. They’re in rough shape, but the auction house expects them to bring big money.

A member of the Brough Superior Club collected most of these motorcycles in the early 1960s, but eventually he stored them away in barns in the Cornish village of Bodmin Moor. Only a few people even knew these bikes still existed.

“This is the last known collection of unrestored Brough Superiors; there will not be another opportunity like this,” said Ben Walker, International Director for Bonhams Collectors’ Motorcycle Department, in the auction announcement.

THE ALL-NEW SPEED TRIPLE S AND SPEED TRIPLE R FROM TRIUMPH–

The new Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R signal a new era for Triumph’s legendary Speed Triple. Designed to be more focused, more powerful, more capable and with more character than any previous generation, these new models redefine the performance roadster segment.

The new Speed Triple S is the entry to the 1050cc performance roadster range while the new Speed Triple R is the new flagship of the Triumph triple-engined roadster range.

These new models retain all the brooding style and minimalist beauty of their predecessors, but add more performance, more capability and more attitude to give the rider maximum fun and maximum thrills.

NEW 1050cc TRIPLE ENGINE

The all-new 1050cc triple engine that powers the new Speed Triple incorporates 104 new developments resulting in an incredibly responsive, free-revving torque-rich power plant. With more torque across the entire rev range and an increase in peak power, the new engine allows the rider to capitalize on the Speed Triple’s incredibly agile chassis with instant response and incredible drive at any revs.

Engine developments include:
• New piston and crankshaft design • New ECU
• New combustion chamber design • Modified cylinder head design
• Increased flow intake ports • New exhaust header design
• New Ride-by-Wire throttle bodies • Re-designed airbox
• Revised fuel system • Smaller, narrower, more efficient radiator

The new fuel delivery system ensures a superior fuel mix to increase combustion performance, while the new header design allows for a larger, denser catalyst with no loss of exhaust flow.

All of these changes have been made with a single aim in mind: to improve the rider experience through delivery of a livelier, more engaging and more involving ride.

NEW DRIVETRAIN

The drivetrain also features a host of developments and features new gear linkages, new balancer gears with new geometry and a new slip assist clutch. In combination, these changes give the rider great shift feel with less lever effort when going through the gears.

FREE-FLOWING EXHAUST SYSTEM

Completing the new engine and drivetrain is a new exhaust system, with silencers that are 70.2% more free flowing and 4.9oz lighter on either side than the previous model. It works in conjunction with the new airbox to reduce emissions, ensure compliance with Euro legislation and importantly increase power. Additionally the new exhaust system amplifies the signature Speed Triple exhaust note – delivering a rich and resonant soundtrack to the ride.

MORE RIDER-FOCUSED TECHNOLOGY

Both new models feature a suite of rider-focused technology designed to maximize rider control and allow the rider to optimize performance to suit the conditions, climate and their riding style.

The new Ride-by-Wire throttle system, working with the new ECU and throttle bodies and featuring selectable throttle maps, gives enhanced throttle control, adding to the feel and responsiveness of the bike and also delivers improved fuel efficiency.

The choice of five different Rider Modes – Rain, Road, Sport, Track and a unique Rider-configurable mode – give the rider distinctly different pre-set combinations of throttle map, ABS and Traction Control settings. The rider configurable mode as its name suggests, allows the rider to individually set all of these performance parameters to suit their own style of riding. They all allow the rider to get the most out of their Speed Triple S or Speed Triple R ride in a wide variety of conditions.

When the Rider-configurable mode is selected the rider has the ability to select their preferred combination of throttle map, ABS and traction control settings. Traction control options are: Rain, Road, Track or Off. Three ABS settings are provided: Road, Track or Off. There are three throttle maps that can be selected to complete the performance personalization – Rain, Road or Sport.

All of the five Rider Modes are monitored and controlled, along with the engine, through a new ECU, the same unit that is used in the race-winning Triumph Daytona 675.

In addition, the new Speed Triple has a gear position indicator as standard, completing the rider information system.

FOCUSED CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION

Similar focus has been applied to the chassis and suspension of the two new Speed Triple models, heightening the feel that the rider experiences during their ride.

No expense has been spared in giving the new Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R class leading chassis and suspension componentry. Both models feature Brembo M4.32 radial monobloc brakes and fully adjustable suspension as standard, while the Speed Triple R comes with Öhlins NIX30 upside down front forks and an Öhlins TTX36 RSU. The Speed Triple R also features a billet machined handlebar clamp and risers, together with machined swingarm spindle finishers and rear wheel finisher.

STYLED WITH MORE ATTITUDE

In what can be described as a return to the ‘hooligan bike’ looks of the original Speed Triple and echoing the sporty styling of the Daytona 675 and Street Triple RX, the two new models are more focused and assertive in their styling.

They feature striking lines through the fuel tank and tail unit, creating a more hunkered down, aggressive look. Both have a 20mm narrower seat head, giving them improved stand-over and contributing to a lower profile and a more athletic, streamlined look.

The new Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R are instantly recognizable by the new DRL headlights, set low, and integrated with a new fly screen and distinctive intake duct.

The new styling also embraces a sleeker, more sculpted fuel tank, seat, and new bodywork, that includes the front mudguard, tank infills, seat unit, lower profile bar end mirrors, rear bodywork, heel guards and silencer heat shields.

On the Speed Triple R, subtle but high-value differentiators come in the form of carbon fibre front mudguard and tank infills, a new belly pan, Diablo Red rear subframe, red wheel pinstripes and red seat stitching.

LAUNCH TIMINGS

The new Speed Triple S and Speed Triple R will be available in Triumph dealerships late February/ early March 2016. The Speed Triple S will retail for $13,200 and the Speed Triple R retails for $14,900.

BANDIT, Happy Friday Bro.

HERE THEY COME–
New European rules for motorcycle gear.

The European Parliament decided this week that motorcycle gear is protective clothing that will have to meet European standards.

Until now only protective (motorcycle) gloves, boots and impact protectors were seen as protective gear and had to meet certain standards. Today the European parliament decided to include all motorcycle gear in the new protective personal equipment (PPE) regulation.

This means, that in a few years’ time all motorcycle gear that is sold in Europe has to meet the same safety standards. They will have to provide a minimum amount of protection against abrasion and impact.

Just like with boots and gloves now, there must be a label inside the gear that confirms that the gear meets the European standards and what level of protection is provided. Also information about maintenance, storage and use must be given to the buyer.

The exact standards and when all motorcycle gear in the shops must meet them are not known yet. It might even take some years. FEMA will inform the riders of all new developments.

This new regulation does not mean that riders are obliged to wear only approved clothing. This regulation is about selling approved protective clothing and not about wearing it. As far as we know the European Commission has no plans to make the wear of approved motorcycle gear mandatory.

FEMA’s General Secretary Dolf Willigers commented: “When all motorcycle gear meets the standard you know what amount of protection you can expect.” This is consumer protection we don’t have now.

Of course the new standards will have to meet the needs of the riders, but with the information we have now I have all confidence that this will be the case. As long as the European authorities will not use these standards to force riders to wear only approved motorcycle gear, and we will see to it that this will not happen, standardization of motorcycle gear is a good thing for riders.”

Helmets and visors are outside the scope of this regulation: they are covered by UN ECE Regulation no. 22.

ATOMIC BOB RETURNS TO COURT NEXT WEEK— The outlaw artist who is capable of multiple brush strokes in a single second will be under high security as he is shackled and drug into court to fill out a survey on prison food.

If he answers the questions to the pleasure of the court, they may cut his sentence. He needs to return to his home to receive medical attention and look after his family. We may know the outcome by our Thursday.

If you can step up and help the family pay the bills during his incarceration, don’t hesitate or order a piece of original art paint in a jail cell while surrounded by rats who gnaw at his fleeting supply of pencils.

Here is our link.

We ordered a iron-bar art piece and here is an image of it taken by a guard and snuck out of the prison just to make the Sunday post. We had to pay the guard a small bag of gold. Help if you can.

FIRST RIDE FROM AERO-STICH–

Despite our record-breaking El Niño winter warmth right now here it’s six-tenths of a degree below zero (ºf) and there’s a Zero electric motorcycle is silently sitting outside in the driveway, asleep save for a small green ‘I’m charging now’ LED blinking at the base of the speedo…Very reassuring. Today’s ride here was:

Easy. And Fun. And Cool.

Easy. – It began with a warm comfortable ride to work in the passenger seat of an SUV winter-beater (thanks Kyle!), carrying my R3 suit, white Nolan modular helmet, insulated elk gloves and a thin navy blue balaclava. Beneath my street clothing was a thin insulating base-layer and over was an old lightweight grey goose down sweater. On my head was a winter knit cap, because it was winter.

The loaned ZBZ Project Zero was waiting inside Aerostich’s warm garage. It had been set up for winter use with lightly studded tires, electric grips, an accessory lead for an electric electric vest and a custom-made Aerostich electric heating blanket wrapped around it’s batteries, which we hope will keep them warm overnight on nights like this.

They must be kept above about twenty degrees to work correctly. We’d also added a polished aluminum skull (seen here) with menacingly glowing LED eyes just left of the headlight in case anyone had questions about the sanity of our plans. Rod, Randy and Stephanie did all this setup work last week!

About 4 PM it was beginning to get dark so it was time to suit up for my first-ever electric motorcycle ride. I wanted least a little daylight. Kyle showed me where the charging and battery heating plugs were and how to power-up the switch for the heated grips…and that was it.

I rolled out onto the partly snow covered frozen street tentatively, as if this was my first step after landing on the moon. Kyle, Lynn and Randy were pit crew witnesses standing in the open garage door shivering. A moment later I was around the corner of the building like there was nothing to it and never looked back. Everything was Easy.

Fun. — Riding a flat-black electric stealth motorcycle rolling on frozen studded tires across icy snow packed streets surrounded by hundreds of tired afternoon commuters inside creaky frozen cars,…what could possibly go wrong? Well, uh, nothing.

My anti-fog treated and pinlocked face shield is perfectly clear. By habit I always flip it open at stoplights anyway. The warmth of the heated grips sure feels nice, but I’m definitely going to need a larger Aerostich suit. This one, which I’ve been wearing all spring/summer/fall for the past two years, isn’t roomy enough for my thicker layers of winter clothing beneath. I can’t move easily or naturally. It feels a bit like a sausage in a casing or when a small child is over-dressed by their mother before being sent outside to play on a winter day. I’m not cold — just overstuffed.

After I’d gone maybe a mile the speedo’s LED battery gauge is showing 98% left and I’m riding along thinking maybe I should take the long way home, even though my suit is pretty tight. Just for fun… It’s about two above zero. This really is Fun!

Cool. – From the sidewalk someone just shouted something toward me that was nice, like ‘Yeah!, man!! Alllright!!!’. Riding an electric bike you hear and notice much more, even bundled up beneath thick muffling layers of winter gear.

All around cars and trucks are heading homeward thru the gathering darkness, all covered with snowy roofs, dirty rimes of mid-winter crud and hard brown ice stalactites curving downward behind each wheel. Inside some of them I can see their drivers peering out at me through partly frosted windows. (Amused or irritated?)

At the next stoplight the guy directly to my right sits a little higher than I inside his winter dirty but-still-nearly-brand-new aluminum-bodied high-tech 2016 Ford F-250 diesel engined 4×4 pickup…with nice aggressively oversized tires and complicated CNC’d rims. Forty grand easy.

As we sit together waiting for green I smile and for a moment it feels like I’m the winner here. It’s no contest really…whomever this Ford 4×4 high-binder guy is, he’s having just another boring afternoon commute inside another boring little room and I’m out here In smack-dab at the center of the entire universe! Outside!! Outside!! I want to scream it!

Steamy clouds of condensing exhaust expand from every tailpipe and the familiar thrum of internal combustion fills the icy air surrounding my silent little Zero wearing it’s cute blue and white California manufacturers license plate on it’s thin rear fender. We’re as out of place as some hapless migrating bird that took a wrong turn at Tulsa last fall and just ended up here, where right now it’s only two above zero and nearly dark and this is really, really, really, really…Cool!

Thank you Zero! Thank you Rod, thank you Randy, thank you Lynn, thank you Stephanie and thank you everyone else at Aerostich! Cool!

Post-ride Notes:

The first sensation of riding an electric bike sure is neat. And far different than any regular bike. No clutch. No noise. No vibration. Nothing. Just roll the twist grip open and listen to the soft zzzzzzing of tire studs on dirty frozen asphalt. Very pure.

With it’s cold-hardened rear tire I almost immediately discover that this bike can spin the rear wheel quite easily, so I’m riding carefully. (Anyone for a sparky burnout?)

Yesterday it snowed another inch and the roads are still partly covered by a thin layer of residual brownish snow-salt mixed with sheer ice areas and mottled packed-down snowy streaks, but everything feels controllable. I make some test moves and there’s noticeably less overall traction available. A lot less. I’ll need to be very careful as these tires break in while learning these low limits. But this should be fun.

My driveway has about a 10-15º angle upward and today white is beneath an unshoveled half-inch of snow with about a quarter-inch of solid sheet-ice below that. Very slippery. I line up and approach this little climb straight on. About one bike-length before reaching where I want to park the rear tire breaks loose. Zzzzzzzzzz. Zzzzzzzz. Zzzzzzzzz. Hahhaha!

This sounds exactly like hapless car drivers when they spin their wheels trying to climb slippery hills whenever it snows. Duluth is built entirely across a 700’ a hillside so if you live here you hear it regularly, ever winter. There’s less traction from these low profile studs than I thought there would be. Maybe I should add more?

I carefully paddle backward one bike length and come at the uphill driveway again. Zzzzzz…zzzzzzz. Ok, one more time…I’ll back down a little farther and get a bit more speed. The third time is the charm and the side stand goes down and the key and electric grips are turned off and I clomp stiffly up the back stairs, across the deck and into the kitchen where I shed my too-tight gear and layers. Then back down to the Zero to plug in recharging and battery heater cords.

Both cords are a small struggle. They are conventional vinyl insulated electric extension cords and are stiff as hickory sticks in the low temperature. Around here Home Depots, Lowes and Menards stores sell two kinds of extension cords…

Many varieties and lengths exactly like these, and a few specially made with silicone insulation intended to remain flexible for outdoor cold weather use. Those are only a few dollars more expensive, but I don’t have any and the too-stiff vinyl insulated ones will work fine, once I get ‘em ‘bent’ into approximately the right shape and position. Done.

As I’m typing this a few hours later it’s exactly 0.0ºF according to a calibrated wireless digital outdoor thermometer I can see from where I’m sitting.

I can hardly wait for tomorrow.

— Andy

Editor’s Note:
This story is being investigated by Snopes. When I received it the author was supposedly Charles Krauthammer, but that was false. He didn’t write it.

We know from the Week Magazine report the Clinton’s secured massive amounts of money through contacts during her job as Secretary of State.

The Clinton Foundation is “organized crime” at it’s finest, and we are
financing it. Here is a good, concise summary of how the Clinton Foundation
works as a tax free international money laundering scheme. It may,
eventually, prove to be the largest political criminal enterprise in U.S.
history. This is a textbook case on how you hide foreign money sent to you and
repackage it to be used for your own purposes. All tax free. Here’s how it
works:

1. You create a separate foreign “charity.” In this case one in Canada.
2. Foreign oligarchs and governments, then donate to this Canadian charity.
In this case, over 1,000 did – contributing mega millions. I’m sure they
did this out of the goodness of their hearts, and expected nothing in
return. (Imagine Putin’s buddies waking up one morning and just deciding to
send untold millions to a Canadian charity).
3. The Canadian charity then bundles these separate donations and makes a
massive donation to the Clinton Foundation.
4. The Clinton Foundation and the cooperating Canadian charity claim
Canadian law prohibits the identification of individual donors.
5. The Clinton Foundation then “spends” some of this money for legitimate
good works programs. Unfortunately, experts believe this is on the order of
10%. Much of the balance goes to enrich the Clinton’s, pay salaries to
untold numbers of hangers on, and fund lavish travel, etc. Again, virtually,
all tax free, which means you and I are subsidizing it.
6. The Clinton Foundation, with access to the world’s best accountants,
somehow fails to report much of this on their tax filings. They discover
these “clerical errors” and begin the process of re-filing 5 years of tax
returns.
7. Net result — foreign money, much of it from other countries, goes into
the Clinton’s pockets tax free and untraceable back to the original donor.
This is the textbook definition of money laundering.

Oh, by the way, the Canadian “charity” includes as a principal one Frank
Giustra. Google him. He is the guy who was central to the formation of
Uranium One, the Canadian company that somehow acquired massive U.S.
uranium interests and then sold them to an organization controlled by
Russia. This transaction required U.S. State Department approval, and guess
who was Secretary of State when the approval was granted.

More to come.

NEVER A DULL MOMENT—
Tomorrow we will launch a report on the Paughco Bikernet Baggers Build, Part 5.

This tech is good. Then a new legislative report is coming from Bill Bish and NCOM.

And more hot news about the Bonneville Salt Flats is coming right up.

The action around here never stops. Let me know what you think of our manifesto.
