HARLEY-DAVIDSON INTRODUCES TRI GLIDE ULTRA CLASSIC–
Designed from the Frame Up for Reliable, Comfortable Three-Wheel Touring.

MILWAUKEE (July 22, 2008) – Harley-Davidson brings original-equipment design, quality and service to the three-wheel motorcycle segment with the introduction of the 2009 Tri Glide Ultra Classic motorcycle. Based on a new chassis designed specifically for this three-wheel application, the Tri Glide offers the classic styling and popular touring features of the Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide in a vehicle that will be sold and serviced by the network of Harley-Davidson dealers and covered by a two-year Harley-Davidson limited warranty. The Tri Glide will have an MSRP of $29,999.

Harley-Davidson launched a “wheels-up” strategy in the development of the Tri Glide, and has created a frame and associated chassis structure that is engineered specifically to handle the loads generated by the steering forces and weight of a three-wheel vehicle. Changes to the front-end geometry enhance steering control by reducing steering effort up to 25 percent. The forks have been lengthened by 1.775 inches compared to the regular Touring motorcycle, and rake is increased from 29.25 degrees to 32.00 degrees. A steer damper controls coast-down wobble, and minimizes bumps and other road inputs during turning events.

Harley-Davidson has designed a new rear-axle assembly for the Tri Glide that utilizes an aluminum center section with steel axle tubes. The Tri Glide retains the high-strength and low-maintenance advantages of belt final drive, and the smooth operation of a rubber-cushioned, compensated rear drive. The rear suspension features dual air-adjustable rear shock absorbers.

The Tri Glide is powered by a Twin Cam 103 V-Twin engine with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), rated at 101 ft. lbs. of torque. It retains the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission used on Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycles, but adds an optional electric reverse ($1,195) integrated with the rear differential assembly that is engaged with a handlebar-mounted reverse module. The Tri Glide has dual front disc brakes and a Hayes Brake dual-disc rear brake system with a lever-actuated, integrated park brake.

Classic Harley-Davidson Styling

The Harley-Davidson styling department gave the new body components of the Tri Glide clean lines that integrate with the existing Ultra bodywork, especially the Tour Pak luggage compartment and the passenger seating area. The new bodywork is painted with the same quality OEM paint and process used on all Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and is a perfect color match for the tank and front fender. The composite rear fenders complement the lines of the front fender. Because the rear fenders are each a separate piece from the rest of the rear bodywork, they can be removed individually for repair or replacement, or when required to service the Tri Glide.

The molded-composite trunk provides 4.5 cubic feet of storage space and can be accessed through a rear hatch. The trunk and Tour Pak have a combined capacity of 6.56 cubic feet and are rated to carry up to 80 pounds. A single key will handle all luggage locking functions, and activate the ignition. Dual mufflers with tapered end caps exit below the trunk. Brake/tail/turn lights are located on each fender, and the Tri Glide retains the Tour Pak lighting used on the Ultra Classic, including the LED side running lights. Matching front and rear black and machined split seven-spoke cast aluminum wheels provide the Tri Glide its integrated and true, factory-built look. The 16-inch front wheel is three inches wide and carries a MT90B16 motorcycle tire, while the 15-inch rear wheels are five inches wide and are fitted with P205/65R15 tires.

Forward of the rear wheels, the Tri Glide retains the style and features of the Ultra Classic Electra Glide, including the distinctive “bat wing” fairing, auxiliary driving lamps, and deep-skirted front fender. A low-profile chrome console tops a six-gallon fuel tank. The fairing holds complete instrumentation and the 80-watt Advanced Audio System with CB radio and passenger intercom system. Adjustable air deflectors on the fairing and vented fairing lowers allow the rider to control wind flow for comfort in warm or cool weather. Cruise control is standard equipment.

The Tri Glide Ultra Classic will be offered three colors: Vivid Black, Dark Blue Pearl, and Red Hot Sunglo.

NEW V-ROD MUSCLE HAS A CHISELED, POWER-CRUISER PRESENCE
Three Liquid-Cooled V-Rod Models on 240 mm Rear Rubber for 2009.

MILWAUKEE (July 22, 2008) – With sculpted bodywork stretched taut over a powerful new physique, the 2009 VRSCF V-Rod Muscle rides its way onto the Power Cruiser scene with a broad-shouldered presence. Gaping air scoops, sweeping side-pipe exhaust and a huge rear tire spinning under a clean, clipped fender speak to a contemporary, urban sense of style and performance. The Muscle pushes the Harley-Davidson V-Rod platform into a new turf, where it aims to hold its ground.

VRSC Key Features

1250cc Revolution V-Twin: Standard on all 2009 VRSC models, the 60-degree Revolution 1250cc V-Twin is liquid-cooled and features Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), dual overhead cams, four-valve heads, and a five-speed transmission. The engine is rubber-mounted in a hydroformed steel perimeter frame. A shell covers the large-volume airbox located over the engine. A five-gallon fuel tank is located below the seat on all VRSC models. The engine is tuned to produce up to 125 hp at 8250 rpm and up to 85 ft-lbs. of torque at 7000 rpm.

Optional ABS: Each VRSC model is available with optional, factory-installed Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS). Designed to work in conjunction with high-performance Brembo triple-disc brakes, this is the most advanced braking system offered on any power cruiser. ABS is designed to help the rider maintain control during braking events, especially those that happen in less-than-optimal conditions. The components of the Harley-Davidson ABS have been designed and packaged to be virtually invisible, preserving the uncluttered styling of the area around the wheels. Unlike many motorcycle ABS, Harley-Davidson ABS is not a linked system, meaning the rider maintains full, independent control of both front and rear brakes.

VRSCF

New V-Rod Muscle:
The wide, angular air-box cover and chopped tail section look as solid and smooth as billet and give the new V-Rod Muscle lines that are clean and powerful. The size of the massive 240 mm rear tire is accentuated by the new broad, clipped and clean rear fender. The combination stop/tail/turn LED light is tucked under the edge of the rear fender, and the side-mount license plate leaves the fender surface smooth and uncluttered. Front-end styling balances the rear, with a trimmed fender that’s blacked out behind satin-finished inverted forks and LED turn signals integrated into the mirror stems. The radiator shrouds are restyled and color-matched to the rest of the bodywork, while the new airbox side covers incorporate air scoop inlets covered with woven wire mesh. The silver five-spoke cast aluminum front and rear wheels are a new design for the V-Rod line.

A new deep seat holds the rider firmly in place against the thrust of the Revolution V-Twin engine. The Muscle features forward foot controls, and a new handlebar with internal wiring. The handlebar is 1.5-inch cast aluminum with tubular steel ends and integrated risers. Bold polished forged aluminum triple clamps secure the inverted forks and frame the distinctive V-Rod teardrop reflector optic headlamp, housed in a satin black bucket.

The long profile of a 34-degree fork rake is stretched visually by new “sidepipe” dual exhausts in satin chrome with fat, turn-out mufflers exiting behind the rear axle. The V-Rod Muscle is available in Vivid Black, Brilliant Silver, Dark Blue Denim and Red Hot Sunglo.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON TOURING CHASSIS IS NEW FROM THE TIRES UP–
Responsive Maneuverability, More Comfort and Greater Capacity on Seven Models.

MILWAUKEE (July 22, 2008) – A new chassis designed to deliver precise responsive maneuverability, increased capacity and greater comfort for rider and passenger underpins the seven-model Harley-Davidson Touring family for 2009.

Incorporating an all-new frame, swingarm, engine mounting system, wheels and tires, the new chassis forms the foundation for what are truly all-new motorcycles. The key styling elements of these motorcycles, however, are essentially unchanged so that the distinctive character and mechanical beauty of each Touring model is preserved.

“In 2009, Harley-Davidson will mark its 15th consecutive year of leading the touring segment in market share,” said Bill Davidson, Harley-Davidson Vice President, Core Customer Marketing. “Harley-Davidson takes pride in this leadership of an entire touring experience that includes great motorcycles, along with the activities of the Harley Owner’s Group, the philosophy of riding with customers while attracting new ones, and producing high quality items like Genuine Motor Accessories and MotorClothes Merchandise. Our dedication to constant improvement of Harley-Davidson motorcycles brings the new chassis and other upgrades for 2009 to deliver a new level of agility and responsiveness, rider and passenger comfort, and cargo capacity.”

The 2009 Touring models continue a series of product innovations that can be traced back to a research study conducted by the company in 2002, and to face-to-face interaction with customers who rode an estimate 50 million miles during the Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary event in 2003. Armed with this feedback, Harley-Davidson launched a program to maintain its touring leadership through the introduction of the Twin Cam 96 engine and 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission, 103ci and 110ci Big Bore kits through Genuine Motor Accessories, the Isolated Drive System, electronic throttle control, Brembo brakes with optional ABS, a six-gallon fuel tank, reduced clutch lever effort, the Advanced Audio System by Harman-Kardon, GPS navigation with Ride Planner downloads, a high-output charging system to better enable new accessory heated seats and grips, and a two-year warranty with extended service intervals.

Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycles, the Kings of the American road, have been tested by time and millions of highway miles in the hands the most demanding long-distance riders in the world. All 2009 Touring models are powered by the rubber-mounted 1584cc Twin Cam 96 V-Twin engine with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), mated to the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission for outstanding performance and economy. All models also feature air-adjustable rear shocks to accommodate variable passenger and luggage loads.

The All-New Touring Chassis:
New from the tires up, the Touring chassis is based on a single-spar, rigid backbone frame that supports an increase in load capacity of 70 pounds. This allows for a five pound increase in each saddlebag and the Tour-Pak. A new swingarm contributes significantly to the overall system.

The frame is engineered to be manufactured with the latest coordinated motion robotic welding process, which offers outstanding dimensional accuracy and weld quality. The frame design results in a 50 percent reduction in parts, and a 50 percent reduction in the total length of welds. T-studs have been eliminated, and the components of the new frame are joined with cast and forged node-tube joints.

A separate bolt-on tail section isolates the main frame from the tail frame, providing better quality-control during manufacturing and more product-design flexibility. The new tail section improves the fit-and-finish of the rear area of the motorcycle through more-precise alignment of the rear fender over the rear wheel.

A new swingarm is formed with a two-piece, deep-drawn shell with a forged pivot section. The new swingarm contributes significantly to the overall system.

The engine-isolation system has also been revised, resulting in reduced engine and vehicle vibration at idle speed. The new system replaces a single front isolator with twin front isolators with a single tie link. The front and rear mounts are designed to provide optimal balance between stiffness and isolation, and are intended to be very durable. Finally, new asymmetric snubbers provide improved control of the clearance between the engine and frame during extreme bump events.

The wheel-and-tire package is updated, with front wheel diameter increased to 17 inches from 16 inches (except for the Road King Classic) while the width of the 16-inch rear wheel is increased to five inches from three inches. All Touring models will be equipped with new Dunlop D407 Multi-Tread rear tires that offer up to 25 percent more rear-tire tread life. The wider rear wheel accommodates a new 180/65-16 rear tire. The new front tire is a 130/80-17. Front and rear suspension has been recalibrated to match the dynamics of the new chassis, wheels and tires.

Styling, Comfort and Convenience:
The increase in wheelbase allowed the saddlebags to be moved rearward a corresponding distance (.556 inches) to increase passenger legroom in front of the saddlebags. The elimination of the left-rear exhaust pipe, and the new routing of the right-rear exhaust pipe, reduces the heat exposure to the rider’s thighs and the passenger’s calves. The rear fender has been re-shaped to accommodate the new 180 mm rear tire, and is also designed to work with 18-inch custom rear wheels from Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories. On models not equipped with a Tour-Pak, the license plate has been relocated below the tail light and is illuminated by an LED located in an eyebrow on the turn signal lightbar, except on the Road King Classic. Finally, the rear “hoop” over the fender has been eliminated from models not equipped with a Tour-Pak. The combination of these elements results in a striking new look to the rear end, with perfect proportions that are especially evident on Touring models that are not equipped with the Tour-Pak.

Powertrain revisions include a new 2-1-2 exhaust system that reduces heat exposure to the rider and passenger, and a lower final drive ratio for improved acceleration performance. Rear styling is cleaner, with a wider fender and the elimination of the rear “hoop” over the fender on models not equipped with a Tour-Pak. (Please see the separate Touring Chassis Tech release for more detailed information.)

Key Touring Family Features

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS): Offered as a factory-installed option on all 2009 Touring models, ABS is designed to help the rider maintain control during braking events, especially those that happen in less-than-optimal conditions.

Electronic Throttle Control: Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) replaces mechanical cables on all Touring models. All wiring from the throttle-grip sensor is routed through the handlebars. The ETC enables an easy upgrade to a cruise control system, and unclutters the handlebar area for cleaner styling.

Factory-Option Cruise Control: Available for all models that do not come equipped with cruise control as standard equipment.

Isolated Drive System: The Isolated Drive System compensator is now integrated into the rear wheel hub, eliminating the bolt-on bowl for a cleaner look. The Isolated Drive System reduces noise and vibration to the rider for improved ride quality under acceleration, shifting and cruising.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON SPORTSTER – TOUGH AND COOL IN 2009–
Updates Include Retuned Suspension and New Front Fenders

MILWAUKEE (July 22, 2008) – The evolution of the Harley-Davidson hot rod continues for 2009, as most Sportster models roll into the new year on retuned suspension. Five Sportster models retain the raw, soulful styling that represents the uninhibited essence of motorcycling. Responsive handling, the flat torque delivery and distinctive sound of an American V-Twin engine, and classic styling cues make Harley-Davidson Sportster a motorcycle that just keeps getting better.

When it debuted in 1957, the original Sportster projected a tough and rebellious attitude that was born on the gritty dirt tracks and drag strips of that era. That spirit lingers in every new Sportster model, from the retro-bobber Nightster to the glittering chrome of the long 1200 Custom.

Sportster models are powered by the Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) XL Evolution V-Twin powertrain, rubber-mounted in the frame to reduce vibration and tuned to deliver a flat torque curve for responsive performance. Among the most-affordable Harley-Davidson models, Sportster motorcycles offer a low, comfortable seat, smooth clutch effort, and a durable carbon fiber reinforced final drive belt.

New on Sportster for 2009

Enhanced Suspension: The suspension is upgraded on the 883 Custom, 1200 Low and 1200 Custom. Springs and dampening rates have been recalibrated and new damping devices were installed to provide superior ride quality.

New Front Fenders: All Sportster models get a new low-profile front fender that hugs the tire for a streamlined, custom look.

New Rear Wheel on Custom models: The 883 Custom and 1200 Custom models receive new rear wheels that weigh four pounds less while maintaining stiffness and durability. REFRESHED HERITAGE SOFTAIL CLASSIC LEADS SOFTAIL LINE
Hard– Tail Spirit Comes With Styling Innovation from Harley-Davidson

MILWAUKEE (July 22, 2008) – The refreshed styling of the Harley-Davidson FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic highlights the eight-model Harley-Davidson Softail line for 2009. No single line of motorcycles offers more diversity in styling and attitude – from the rough-and-tumble Cross Bones bobber and the broad-shouldered Fat Boy, to the nostalgic Softail Deluxe and the radical Rocker. The Softail family represents the fully realized custom vision of Harley-Davidson, a combination of rolling art and engineering excellence that is often copied but never matched in the world of motorcycle design.

Named for its rear-suspension design, which mimics the lines of a vintage hard-tail frame but offers the comfort of modern suspension that is hidden under the chassis, every Softail has clean lines, a low seat height, and a rigid-mounted, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B powertrain. The rigid powertrain allows tight packaging of the engine and frame and creates a solid connection between the rider and the power that moves the motorcycle, enhancing the emotional experience of riding.

Each Softail model also features the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission for outstanding mid-range torque and relaxed engine speed when cruising. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) enhances engine efficiency, provides crisp throttle response and easy starting, and self-adjusts for changing environmental conditions to maintain performance. A horseshoe oil tank located below the seat, forward foot controls or foot boards, the classic Fat Bob fuel tank, and the perfect execution of custom detail in paint and metal are design elements that define each Softail model.

Refreshed FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic:
The Heritage Softail Classic receives a number of other, more-subtle styling changes and new components that shift this popular model in a new, retro direction for 2009. The fuel tank has new glass-filled, 3-D badges and is topped with a classic “Cat Eye” console and matching retro speedometer face. Half-moon rider footboards and a large, oval foot brake pad also nod to the past. CVO SOFTAIL SPRINGER IS A WIDE AND WILD RIDE FOR 2009–
New CVO Softail Rolls Large on a Classic Springer Front End and Fat Rear Tire

nostalgic Springer front end and a wide 240 mm rear tire and fender, Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) rolls out a truly original motorcycle with the 2009 CVO Softail Springer. Based on a totally unique frame design with wide, fully polished and chrome-plated swing arm, fully polished chrome cast aluminum oil tank and a host of premium components and accessories, the CVO Softail Springer stands alone in the factory custom category.

As one of just two 2009 Harley-Davidson models with the quintessential Springer front fork design, the CVO Softail Springer presents a spiritual and exhilarating ride with authentic look and feel. The faithfully styled front end rides on an 18 x 3.5-inch Road Winder wheel and 130 mm tire with a new four-piston brake caliper with chrome forged mount, color-matched rigid forks and chromed spring components. The new wide 240 mm rear tire and custom Bobtail wide rear fender with louver accents ride on a new 18 x 8-inch Road Winder forged chrome wheel.

The third edition creation from Harley-Davidson CVO melds time honored Harley-Davidson engineering technology and styling creativity with an exclusive Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110B engine, stunning Genuine Motor Accessories and sizzling color options.

With a new, exclusively designed frame, chrome swingarm and specially tuned suspension, the CVO Springer is a Softail unlike any other. The custom seat with Buffalo inserts highlighted by contrast embroidered flames and CVO logo stretches to a custom full-length chrome fuel tank console and is topped with a five-inch speedometer with spun aluminum face. The forward facing exposed Heavy Breather intake carries a special “110” tube emblem and chrome end cap. Other new components include a chrome slash-down staggered dual mufflers with full length exhaust shields, Bullet mirrors with shortened stems, and chrome-plated dipstick, fork inserts, fender struts and covers, swingarm pivot bolt covers, axle nut covers, tank emblems and wheel spacers.

The Harley-Davidson CVO group creates limited-production, exclusive motorcycles produced by a team of highly skilled technicians in a special assembly area at the Harley-Davidson plants in York, Pa., and Kansas City. Approximately 2,500 of the 2009 CVO Softail Springer will be assembled at the York Vehicle Operations facility. The suggested U.S. retail price for the 2009 CVO Softail Springer is $26,999 ($27,099 in California).

The CVO Softail Springer also features exclusive granite and chrome treatment on the largest-displacement production engine offered by Harley-Davidson. The Screamin’ Eagle 110-cid (1800cc) Twin Cam 110B, a high-performance V-Twin engine, delivers top performance with 110 ft. lbs. of torque at 3000 rpm thanks in part to the free flowing Heavy Breather intake. The engine is rigid-mounted in the Softail frame, equipped with internal counter-balanced shafts and is mated to a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission for lower cruising rpm in top gear.

The Centerline accessory collection returns for 2009 with grips, footpegs and brake and shifter pedals, and horn cover. Chrome accessorized components include the brake and clutch master cylinders, voltage regulator, switch housings, belt guard, debris deflector and shift lever. Front and rear brakes include Road Winder rotors and the calipers match the Granite engine treatment.

The CVO Softail Springer will be offered in three exclusive color combinations for 2009: Black Diamond with Emerald Ice Flames, Candy Cobalt with Blue Steel Flames, and Sunrise Yellow Pearl with Volcanic Fury Flames. The metal grind flames are topped with Candy highlights making every vehicle truly custom. All models feature color-matched frame, rigid fork and top clamp, frame inserts, and a headlight bucket with custom graphics. This new Touring line has a modular frame for enhanced maneuverability, a new 180 mm rear tire with a higher weight rating, a new 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust system and other enhancements that set a foundation for the next generation of Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycles. The CVO Ultra is powered by the CVO-exclusive granite coated Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110-cid (1800 cc) engine, the largest displacement production engine offered by Harley-Davidson, producing 113 ft. lbs. of torque at 3750 rpm, as well as the smooth shifting 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission.

As part of a most discerning and well-traveled group of motorcyclists, CVO Ultra riders will enjoy extra amenities for 2009 such as a Tour-Pak mounting rack with increased carrying capacity, mid-frame air deflectors, and lighting and electrical updates that include shorter antennas. These features complement and preserve the commanding Ultra design along with mechanical features like Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), six-gallon fuel tank, Brembo brakes and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

While ABS is designed to help maintain control during emergency stopping situations, especially those that happen in less than ideal conditions, the CVO Ultra also features Brembo front and rear brakes for maximum performance, feel and look.

The 2009 CVO Ultra rides on new Roulette wheels with a 180 mm, 16-inch rear tire and 130 mm, 17-inch front tire. For that extra comfort, there is the new suspended, dual-heated seat with shark print leather inserts. Newly styled foot controls and heated hand grips are called by the name Rumble Collection, which includes windshield trim, mirrors and saddlebag latches.

Other new components on the 2009 CVO Ultra include a matching rider and passenger backrest, Tour-Pak inserts, CB pod inserts, chrome push-button fuel door with CVO logo, smooth air cleaner cover, Screamin’ Eagle 110 air cleaner cover insert, two-inch backlit gauges, braided stainless steel clutch and brake lines, custom oil cooler with chrome cover and the Air Wing Tour-Pak luggage rack.

The Harley-Davidson CVO program creates limited-production, exclusive motorcycles produced by teams of technicians in a special assembly area at the Harley-Davidson plants in York, Pa., and Kansas City. Approximately 4,200 examples of the 2009 CVO Ultra will be assembled at the York Vehicle Operations facility. The suggested U.S. retail price for the 2009 CVO Ultra is $35,499 ($35,699 in California).

Based on the Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide, the CVO Ultra offers premium amenities from that model such as a 160-watt CD/AM/FM/WB/MP3 Advanced Audio System by Harman-Kardon, CB and intercom, and passenger audio with controls, cruise control, plus standard XM Radio and integrated navigation system. The bike is also protected by the Harley-Davidson Smart Security System with Smart Siren.

CVO Ultra features also include a power-locked saddlebags and Tour-Pak locking system with integrated key fob activation, internally wired handlebar with Electronic Throttle Control, oil filter mount with internal thermostat and chrome voltage regulator. The CVO Ultra rides on the Touring-exclusive air-adjustable rear suspension. Instruments with spun-aluminum metal faces are mounted below a custom black-leather inner fairing pad with chrome trim.

The CVO Ultra will be offered in three exclusive color combinations: Ruby Red and Typhoon Maroon with Forge-tone graphics, Autumn Haze and High Octane Orange with Forge-tone graphics and Stardust Silver and Twilight Blue with Forge-tone graphics. The vented lower fairings and inner fairing and switch panel are color-matched to the selected paint scheme. An indoor storage cover with CVO logo and a unique Harley-Davidson CVO key in a presentation box are also included.

ROAD GLIDE, FAT BOB LEAD CUSTOM VEHICLE OPERATIONS LINE FOR 2009–
Harley-Davidson Premium Custom Motorcycles Celebrate 10th Anniversary

MILWAUKEE (July 22, 2008) – The pride and passion that define Harley-Davidson and its riders are prominent in the Motor Company’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) line of motorcycles. As the upper echelon of the motorcycle world, CVO models are hand-built with detailed craftsmanship and stand as the most desirable custom motorcycles available.

The 2009 model year marks the 10th anniversary of the Harley-Davidson CVO program. An effort that began a decade ago as a response to rider requests for factory custom motorcycles has evolved into the top class of its industry, proving that production is really the only limit when it comes to making Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles.

“Features like bigger engines, exclusive accessories and custom paint and colors, combined with limited production quantities make the Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles truly unique and inspirational,” said Matt Levatich, Harley-Davidson Vice President and General Manager, Parts & Accessories and CVO. “The CVO bikes were introduced to meet customer desires and they have fulfilled our riders’ ultimate dreams with miles of memories and great riding for a decade. We expect the unique CVO experience to continue for years to come.”

The Harley-Davidson CVO line for 2009 includes the following four models:

CVO Fat Bob
CVO Road Glide
CVO Softail Springer
CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide

The Fat Bob is a first-time CVO offering, while the Road Glide, Softail Springer and Ultra Classic Electra Glide all enjoy a storied history with the program. The CVO bikes are based on Harley-Davidson factory models, but are then taken to a new level of customization with an abundance of Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories. (Please see separate press releases on each model for more detail)

Highlights of the 2009 Harley-Davidson CVO motorcycles include a Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine (1800 cc) finished in granite powdercoat on all models, integrated stop/turn/tail lights on the Road Glide rear section, new Fang cast wheels on the CVO Fat Bob, 240 mm wide rear tire and unique frame and oil tank on the Springer, and Roulette wheels and new 180 mm wide rear tire on the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide.

The launch of the CVO program began with the 1999 FXR2 and FXR3 models, and was so well-received that it was followed in 2000 by the FXR4. Also in 2000, the first edition of the FLTRSEI Road Glide was introduced, combining the latest touring design and Screamin’ Eagle performance parts. While initial annual production of CVO models was limited to about 900 units per model, output has increased to current ranges of between 2,450 and 4,200 units for each model.

What followed during the last decade was a series of some of very memorable motorcycles, including CVO variations on the Dyna Wide Glide, Road King, Softail Deuce, Fat Boy and Electra Glide. In addition, the CVO program boasted the 2005 Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod with its 60-degree, 1250 cc liquid cooled V-Twin engine and the 2006 Screamin’ Eagle Destroyer, designed specifically for drag racing with a 1300cc Screamin’ Eagle Revolution powertrain.

The Harley-Davidson CVO group consists of a select group of engineers, designers and supply management staff, who work together with Harley-Davidson Styling to create these limited-production, custom motorcycles. The CVO models are then produced by highly skilled technicians in special assembly areas at the Harley-Davidson plants in York, Pa., and Kansas City.

HARLEY-DAVDISON BRINGS BACK THE CVO ROAD GLIDE–
A Revival of the Sleek Custom Bagger on an All-New Touring Chassis

MILWAUKEE (July 22, 2008) – A sleek, lean muscle machine, the 2009 Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) Road Glide is a bagger loaded with style and attitude. From its lowered front fender and skirted saddlebags to its vivid paint and massive powertrain, the CVO Road Glide is ready to romp down the highway or raise a ruckus on the boulevard.

The CVO Road Glide is a limited-production motorcycle created by the Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) group, and based on the all-new 2009 Harley-Davidson FLTR Road Glide. Approximately 3,000 examples of the 2009 CVO Road Glide will be produced by a team of highly skilled technicians in a special assembly area at the Harley-Davidson York Vehicle Operations facility in York, Pa.. The suggested U.S. retail price for the 2009 CVO Road Glide is $30,999 ($31,195 in California).

The 2009 model will be the third edition of a Road Glide model from the CVO group. This motorcycle first appeared in 2000 and made a splash with its distinctive, slashing Screamin’ Eagle head on each side of its VR Racing Orange fairing. That design serves as inspiration for the paint scheme on this new model, which features ghosted flamed feathers in the accent stripe on the fairing, tank, side covers and bags, and a more-subtle Screamin’ Eagle on the fairing.

The CVO group showed little restraint, however, when executing the rest of the CVO Road Glide. Start with the unbridled power of the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine, 110 cubic inches of pure American V-Twin muscle and the largest engine offered by Harley-Davidson. Available only on CVO models, the Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) Twin Cam 110 produces 115 ft. lbs. of torque at 4000 rpm and features electronic throttle control and a heavy-duty, self-adjusting clutch with hydraulic actuation. It’s finished in CVO-exclusive granite powdercoat with chrome covers, and features a new “110 Screamin’ Eagle” badge on the air cleaner cover insert. The engine breathes through a new air cleaner cover with an exposed Stage 1 Screamin’ Eagle element, and exhaust escapes through four-inch chrome touring mufflers with chrome billet end caps. A custom oil cooler has a chrome cover with the CVO logo.

The CVO Road Glide rolls on the same all-new chassis that underpins all 2009 Harley-Davidson Touring models, based on a redesigned frame and swingarm for enhanced maneuverability. The new Touring chassis also incorporates a new motor-mount system that reduces engine shake at idle, a new 2-1-2 exhaust system with a one-piece front exhaust shield, and a new 180 mm Dunlop Multi-Tread rear tire that offers longer tread life and 27 percent more luggage payload.

Over this foundation CVO layers chrome and custom components. To achieve a lower profile, composite skirts are added to the saddlebag bottoms and wrap over the exhaust pipe outlets. Filler strips between the saddlebag and rear fender incorporate LED stop/turn/tail lights that replace the traditional fender-mounted lights and signals. To balance the bike visually front-to-rear, the front fender has been lowered about three-quarters of an inch with a new mounting bracket, and the fender covers a new 18-inch-diameter front wheel. The effect is to place the front fender skirt as low as is practically possible for street use. The CVO Road Glide rolls on 18-inch Blade chrome forged aluminum wheels front and rear.

The frame-mounted, aerodynamic fairing is the most distinctive design element of the Road Glide, and it gets a full custom treatment from CVO. The inner fairing panel is color-matched and carries gauges with spun-aluminum faces. The two-inch gauges are back-lit. The headlight area is revised with new trim that discards the clear headlight cover used on the regular-production Road Glide. New headlight lenses are hardened. The fairing is topped with a black, low-profile wind deflector and trim assembly.

Rider comfort begins with a new low-profile, two-up seat with Buffalo inserts and a matching passenger backrest. The new Touring exhaust system creates more space between the passenger and the exhaust pipe, producing less heat. The new frame increases passenger leg room behind the calves by about 5/8 inch. Brembo brakes with ABS are standard equipment, as is cruise control, two-speaker AM/FM/WB/CD/MP3 Advanced Audio System by Harman /Kardon, and air-adjustable rear suspension.

A chrome tank console has a push-button fuel door and a new insert with the CVO logo. The hand and foot controls are from the Rumble Collection, with matching mirrors, saddlebag latches and passenger footpegs. Handlebars are internally wired for a clean look. Did we mention that CVO loves chrome? The CVO Road Glide has a chromed front end, chrome billet rear brake and shift levers, chrome switch housings and master cylinders, and enough other chromed parts to keep this bike sparkling night and day.

The 2009 CVO Road Glide is available in three color combinations: Yellow Pearl with Charcoal Slate, Stardust Silver with Titanium Dust, and Electric Orange with Vivid Black. A security system with smart siren, a CVO indoor cover and unique Harley-Davidson CVO gold ignition key with display box are included.
