THE NON-STOP SUNDAY POST FOR APRIL 13, 2013

Hey,

Life is nuts. The Long Beach Grand Prix, shakes the pavement in Long Beach all weekend. We need a decibel meter trackside. Laughlin is a couple of weeks from now. I’m hanging out with Bill Hayes and Jennifer at the Los Angeles Times Book fair with Motorbooks and Paisano Publication DVDs and tech books.

There’s just so much going on and just so many precious minutes available. Let’s hit the news. This is a good one. This one will piss you off, drive you nuts and make you smile, I hope.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRAY ALWAYS OPEN– Thursday night I gradually woke up sore and battered in the hospital’s ICU, tubes up my nose & down my throat, wires monitoring every function & all around my head, hell of a pain over my left ear and a Drop Dead Gorgeous Nurse hovering over me.

It was obvious I’d been in a serious accident.

She looked deep & very seriously into my eyes and said,
“You may not feel anything from the waist down.”

I managed to mumble in reply, “So, I can feel your tits, then?”

MORE NEWS FROM THE AUSTRALIAN POLICE STATE–Governments laws make the Aussie state of Queensland a police state.

A prominent Gold Coast lawyer believes Queensland is starting to resemble a police state.

Campbell MacCallum slammed Queenslands controversial anti-biker laws after a bail application for his client was adjourned in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Braden Quan, 26, is facing charges of trafficking as part of a police investigation into a major Gold Coast drug syndicate allegedly run by nightclub owner Ivan Tesic.

Mr Quan has not been charged under the anti-biker laws.

But his bail application was adjourned after police prosecutor Senior Constable Tahnee Roberts alleged that he was a Bandidos motorcycle club ‘associate’.

Mr MacCallum said Queensland was close to being a police state, with no onus on prosecutors to prove someone was connected with a criminal group.

“We’re in a situation where there is a lot of power given to the police, especially the prosecutors,” he told reporters.

“It’s not just so-called bikers are getting caught up in this. It’s also citizens charged with normal offences who are getting caught up in this draconian legislation.”

Mr Quan remains in custody until April 17, when his revised bail application is being heard.

“Once an allegation is made that they’re part of a criminal organization, it becomes a case of somebody is in custody for a certain amount of period without recourse,” Mr MacCallum said.

Mr Tesic, 40, also fronted court on Thursday after being extradited from Sydney, but as he had already been charged under the anti-biker laws his bail application was immediately adjourned until April 17.

Mr Tesic and Quan are accused of being part of a syndicate that ran drugs in modified cars from Sydney to be sold in Surfers Paradise clubs, including those owned by Tesic.

Police last weekend closed down a 19-month investigation targeting the Gold Coast’s party scene after three days of raids.

Police say, to date, 152 people have been arrested, including 37 alleged biker and club ‘associates’.

BRAND New Bikernet Reader Comment!– PRE-FATHERS DAY THURSDAY NEWS FOR JUNE 13, 2013

http://www.bikernet.com/pages/story_detail.aspx?id=11094

I don’t have children. I have seen children getting murdered recently because adults around them have failed to inform them about infringing upon other’s space with the loud noise from their vehicles. Does it occur to you that these horrible things are taking place because people cannot take the noise abuse any longer?

All we ask for is a compromise and you make it seem like we are asking that motorcycles not be allowed to exist at all. You also unfairly refer to us as “noise freaks” when the illegal motorcycle owners are the noise freaks because they are obsessed with it.

Follow the laws on the books for your vehicles the way all vehicle owners have to do with their vehicles. Or, push your legislators to pass new laws that state that motorcycles are the only vehicles on the road that do not have to have a noise suppressing unit on their vehicles in good working order at all times. And, that they be allowed to tamper with the exhausts to make them as loud as possible.

Until that happens, follow the laws, be good neighbors, don’t antagonize people with the noise. You are right. The first amendment guarantees our freedom of speech. I agree. But, only 10% of Americans realize that within the first amendment, also lies “the right to redress grievances with one’s government.” It is exactly what I am doing and I am well within in my rights.

As proactive as you are regarding the loud illegal exhausts is as proactive as myself and many others have decided to be regarding the illegal exhausts. I have and I will continue placing complaints about the selective enforcement of the laws by my local police, to my district attorney’s office.

And, according to PA law, I can get evidence, and take people before the magistrate to harassment and it is exactly what I plan on doing from now on. It is the law. It doesn’t matter who agrees or disagrees with it, it is the law.

I am also telling and have told many of my state representatives and national representatives that I plan on informing all the tax paying citizenry about their lack of concern for their health. I make no bones about it. I am determined and I am not going to stop about this matter. And according to the neighbor law whoever allows these individuals onto their premises are at fault as well and I have informed all of them that I am not taking it anymore and if they want to court, no problem.

Let’s see what the courts have to say about the matter. I have spent far too many summers, springs and falls being tormented by ear splitting noise. And, I doubt that any road has 100 tractor trailers go by constantly over a 5-hour period like the cycles do during these rides they go on by my house. I have not been able to open my windows since 2006 because of the increase of illegal exhausts on vehicles.

I pray it gets hot early in the season so I can keep them closed and put on my central air. And you try to portray me as unreasonable? Seriously? What about my rights?

In the past, you only had a small percentage of people doing this to their exhausts. But when they saw that the police kept tolerating it, you now have at least half of them doing this to their motorcycles. This is why so many states have passed more serious anti-noise legislation. If I loved the sport, I would be screaming the loudest at these guys, so I held onto as many of my rights as possible. I wouldn’t be condoning it by any means.

I have no idea what you are referring to about “swallowing.” Freedom doesn’t include the right to break the current laws on the books. You have a convoluted sense of the definition of the word freedom and about “free speech.” Free speech does not include within it the right to break the laws.

Also, please check the WHO (The world health organization) site and research how the little hairs on the inside of the human ears are killed off by noise over 115 decibels from each exposure. First, if there was a way for modern medicine to repair the hairs, it would involve surgery. This would be unfair to people who are subjected to it. But, there is currently no way to repair these little hairs on the inside of the ears. And, you have no problem subjecting fellow human beings to this level of noise? If you need your bike so noisy, go off road with it, and don’t antagonize every body else with it, okay?

–Mary Anne
Mountain Top, Pa

I agree, there should be some regulation, but rules that work, don’t hinder. We are going to take a decibel meter to the Long Beach Grand Prix where folks will be lined up by the thousands to listen to screaming race cars for hours. Will all their kids be killed from the noise? Will their kids grow up and never blast loud rock and roll or shoot a gun? What the hell? Again, I’ll lose some hair in my ears to save a brother’s life from a distracted driver any day.

So, should we make sirens illegal? –Bandit

WEEKEND GUN NUT REPORT– This week, several anti-gun bills passed in their respective committees while two pro-hunting bills also passed in their respective committees.

On Tuesday, anti-gun Assembly Bill 2305 passed in the Assembly Public Safety Committee by a 5 to 2. AB 2305 would significantly expand California law by imposing criminal liability if an individual unknowingly carries a firearm on or about his or her person. More importantly, AB 2305 directly conflicts with constitutional protections for carrying a firearm for self-defense as recently confirmed by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. AB 2305 is now awaiting its third reading on the Assembly floor with no date yet scheduled for its consideration.

Also on Tuesday, pro-hunting Assembly Bill 1709 passed unanimously in the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee. AB 1709 would revise the eligibility age to purchase a junior hunting license to include minors that are 16 and 17 years of age. Under current law, minors over the age of 15 are not authorized to purchase the affordable junior hunting licenses. AB 1709 has been referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee and a hearing date has not yet been scheduled.

On Wednesday, the following bills passed in the Assembly Appropriations Committee and now await their third reading on the Assembly floor:

Anti-Gun Bills:

Assembly Bill 1609 would impose unnecessary limitations on the transfer of firearms by law-abiding citizens, requiring that all transfers be completed through a California gun dealer, regardless of the circumstances. AB 1609 passed in committee by a 12 to 5.

Assembly Bill 1964 would remove existing exemptions for all single-shot pistols, other than those with a break top or bolt action, from California?s roster of ?not safe? handguns. AB 1964 passed in committee by a 12 to 5.

Assembly Bill 2310 would reenact provisions authorizing a city prosecutor or city attorney in specified counties to file an action for unlawful detainer to abate a nuisance caused by any illegal conduct involving firearms or ammunition. AB 2310 passed unanimously in committee.

Pro-Hunting Bill:

Assembly Bill 2105 would require the state Department of Fish and Game to authorize a non-profit organization designated by the department to assist in the sale of Nelson bighorn ram tags and to retain five percent of the amount of the sale price of the tag, plus any applicable credit card fees, as a reasonable vendor fee. AB 2105 passed unanimously in committee..

Please call AND e-mail your Assemblyman and urge him or her to OPPOSE AB 2305, AB 1609, AB 1964 and AB 2310 and SUPPORT AB 1709 and AB 2105.

MOTORCYCLES IN THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE—This just discovered by Bikernet east coast correspondent.

The Transcontinental Motorcycle Cannonball Run III Update–Lonnie Isam, Jr., owner of Jurassic Racing in Sturgis, South Dakota, and promoter of the 2014 Motorcycle Cannonball Run announced today that the third iteration of the transcontinental ride promises to be a truly exciting world wide affair. Scheduled for 17 days in September, the coast-to-coast run on antique motorcycles has its roster full and the route set. This unique and grueling ride will be historic.

According to Isam, the endurance ride for pre-1937 motorcycles will get underway from the sands of Daytona Beach in Florida on Friday, September 5 and will include 115 entries from 32 states, 11 countries and 3 continents as well as the island of Japan. The historic run will indeed be watched by the world as motorcycles of all marques tackle a demanding route across America. A week into travel, riders will have a day of rest, repairs, and some festivities in the hospitable town of Junction City, Kansas on September 12.

Included in the impressive lineup of antique bikes will be some lesser-known marques such a 1923 Ner-a-car, a Sokol 1000, and a Sunbeam m9. As predicted early on, the field will be overwhelmingly dominated by a remarkable 67-Harley-Davidsons, followed in concentration by 19-Indians, 16-Hendersons, 6-BMWs, 2-Moto Guzzis, 2-Moto Freras, as well as 1-each Rudge, BSA Sloper, and Brough Superior.

The continent-wide event is not a race but will be a timed test of both the riders’ endurance and the roadworthiness of their respective machines as they navigate non-Interstate roads across 10 of America’s States. After a total of some 3,944 miles, the ride is slated to conclude on Sunday, September 21 in Tacoma, Washington.

Isam stated that the run, “Will be huge,” and while organizers and MCR Course Master John Classen are still working out the final details of some of the stops, it’s clear that there will be several opportunities for the public to meet the Motorcycle Cannonball riders during one of the 19-hosted events as they make their way along their arduous journey.

Five museums are on the route and will be visited as well. The Coker Tire Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Cyclemos Motorcycle Museum in Red Boiling Spring, Tennessee, the Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Legends Motorcycle Museum in Springville, Utah, and the LeMay Museum in Tacoma, Washington will all play host to the riders as they wind their way towards the Northwest.

Flying event colors for the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run is a great way to support this remarkable event. Official commemorative t-shirts, caps and lapel pins are now available at the National Motorcycle Museum Store and website
http://www.nationalmcmuseum.com/category-s/1847.htm, or call the Museum at (319) 462-3925 to order yours. The artwork is classic and these are the only official Cannonball apparel items available.

WEED WORLD COMES TO AMERICA–Washington, DC: Seventy-five percent of Americans believe that the personal consumption and retail sale of cannabis will eventually be legal for adults, according to national polling data released this week by the Pew Research Center. Pew pollsters have been surveying the public’s attitudes regarding marijuana legalization issue since 1973, when only 12 percent of Americans supported regulating the substance.

Fifty-four percent of respondents say that marijuana ought to be legal now, according to the poll. The total is the highest percentage of support ever reported by Pew and marks an increase of two percent since 2013. Forty-two percent of respondents said that they opposed legalizing marijuana for non-therapeutic purposes. Only 16 percent of Americans said that the plant should not be legalized for any reason.

Demographically, support for cannabis legalization was highest among those age 18 to 29 (70 percent), African Americans (60 percent), and Democrats (63 percent). Support was weakest among those age 65 and older (32 percent) and Republicans (39 percent).

Seventy-six percent of those surveyed oppose incarceration as a punishment for those found to have possessed personal use quantities of marijuana. Only 22 percent of respondents supported sentencing marijuana possession offenders to jail.

Fifty-four percent of those polled expressed concern that legalizing marijuana might lead to greater levels of underage pot use. (Forty-four percent said that it would not.) Overall, however, respondents did not appear to believe that such an outcome would pose the type of significant detrimental health risks presently associated with alcohol. As in other recent polls, respondents overwhelmingly say that using cannabis is far less harmful to health than is drinking alcohol. Sixty-nine percent of those polled said that alcohol “is more harmful to a person’s health” than is marijuana. Only 15 percent said that cannabis posed greater health risks. Sixty-three percent of respondents separately said that alcohol is “more harmful to society” than cannabis. Only 23 percent said that marijuana was more harmful.

The Pew poll possesses a margin on error of +/- 2.6 percent.

Recent national polls by Gallup and CNN similarly report majority support among Americans for legalizing and regulating the adult use of the plant.

Commenting on the poll, NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano said: “Advocating for the regulation of cannabis for adults is not a fringe political opinion. It is the majority opinion among the public. Elected officials who continue to push for the status quo – the notion that cannabis ought to be criminalized and that the consumers of cannabis ought to be stigmatized and punished – are holding on to a fringe position that is increasingly out-of-step with their constituents’ beliefs.”

For more information, please contact Allen St. Pierre, NORML Executive Director, or Erik Altieri, NORML Communications Director, at (202) 483-5500.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRAY OPEN 24/7–Two Crocodiles were sitting by the side of the swamp near the river.

The smaller one turned to the bigger one and said, “I can’t understand how you can be so much bigger than me. We’re the same age. We were
the same size as kids. I just don’t get it.”

“Well,” said the big Croc, “What have you been eating?”

“Politicians, same as you,” replied the small Croc.

“Hmm. Well, where do you catch them?”

“Down the other side of the swamp near the parking lot by the Parliament Buildings.”

“Same here. Hmm. How do you catch them?”

“Well, I crawl up under one of their Lexus cars and wait for one to unlock the car door. Then I jump out, grab them by the leg, shake the shit out of them and eat ’em!”

“Ah!” says the big Crocodile,”I think I see your problem. You’re not getting any real nourishment. See, by the time you finish shaking the shit out of a Politician, there’s nothing left but an asshole and a briefcase

ANOTHER NON-STOP DAY ON THIS LITTLE PLANET—According to some we need to completely relax, ride forever and screw material bullshit. As it turns out man has been around for millions of years and this little dinky planet has been wiped out several times by passing meteors. So, every day is just a roll of the dice. Incredible.

So how the hell do you decipher this info? Should I finish my next book, try to ride to the basecamp of Mount Everest on a Royal Enfield, build something completely whacked out and haul it to Bonneville, or should I relax, have a tall glass of Whiskey and wait?

I think, if some official meteorologist reports that we only had a week left, I would attempt to finish that motorcycle screenplay, if I was the only person on this spinning ball to read it. I just enjoy doing shit.

Have a hell of a week!
