THE OPTIONS BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for February 16th, 2023

Hey,

Life is full of options. Hell, try to buy a couch, a computer or a refrigerator. The options will kick your ass. Remember, don’t buy from Best Buy or Lowes. They won’t stand behind any appliance they sell. Hell, they won’t even check to see if they work before they deliver them.

I’ve got an unbelievable story. My neighbors, a biker couple on a steep street in Deadwood bought a new refrigerator from Lowes. They sent some guys in a Lowe’s step-van to deliver it. They unloaded it on the street and stepped away. It rolled down the street until it hit a bump fell over and continued to roll to the bottom of the hill.

Lowe’s said, “We delivered it. It’s yours.” They also said. “Those guys rented our van. We don’t know them.”

Okay, so if you want to buy a new appliance, go to your local guy who will take care of you, and make sure he can repair what you bought. What the hell does this have to do with choppers? In a sense all the same applies. Buy from a local, reputable shop. Then at least you can talk to someone and ask question about chrome shit.

Let’s hit the news. At the end I’ll cover all our projects and up-coming options.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by companies who also dig Freedom including: Cycle Source Magazine, the MRF, Las Vegas Bikefest, Iron Trader News, ChopperTown, BorntoRide.com and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum.

LONG TIME BIKERNET CONTRIBUTOR MYSTERIOUSLY INJURED IN CABO-

BERRY GREEN was celebrating his 61 Birthday.

His wife set up a GoFundMe page:
https://gofund.me/095f6f05

Donate to Greens for the Green’s

I am Carrie. I have been a close friend of the Green’s for nearly two decades. I have volunteered to create a way for all of us, who love them both dearly, to help in their time of need. Carla and Barry are the first to volunteer and help anyone and everyone no matter the charity or cause, this is how we can help them.

On October 22 Barry fell at hotel in Mexico while celebrating his 61st birthday. His flip-flop got stuck and he fell, face first, into a bed a rocks. He suffered a traumatic brain bleed and was in ICU in Cabo 30 days.

After 9 surgeries he was stabilized enough to finally get an air transfer back to the US. With the persistence of Carla, she was able to get him into Baylor Dallas.

He has since had 2 more surgeries so far and a long road ahead. Carla hasn’t left Barry’s side since day one and has been living in Dallas since they arrived. She has a great support team of friends, family and loved ones to help bring her clothes, water the plants, and maintain her incredible mortgage business. She is an awe of everyone’s generosity and thankful for all the love and prayers for her and Barry.

After having to pay for all the medical treatments (paid in full upfront in Mexico), hotels and extended stays, the best way we can help them is through this site. Barry is slowly waking up and has made progress since returning to Dallas. The road will be long ahead of them both and continued prayers for healing are still needed. Once he improves, they hope to move to a rehab facility in Baylor.

Ways to help the Green family right now are monetary donations through this site, Hilton gift cards (to help cover extended stay hotel in Dallas) and continued prayers for full recovery.

His wife set up a GoFundMe page:
https://gofund.me/095f6f05

We donated and our entire staff is praying for Barry’s healthy return.

CLIMATE DOOM IS GOING TO COURT–Final Brief Submitted In CHECC v. EPA

The briefing is now complete in Concerned Household Electricity Consumers Council v. EPA. That is the case, currently pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where a small and brave band of electricity consumers, CHECC, challenges the “science” behind EPA’s 2009 finding that CO2 and other “greenhouse gases” constitute a danger to human health and welfare. I am one of the attorneys for CHECC.

Our final Reply Brief was filed originally on Tuesday February 7, and then re-filed in corrected form the next day. (The reason for “correction” is too trivial to go into here. The clerks in the D.C. Circuit take great pleasure in devising trivial reasons to require lawyers to file “corrected” briefs.). Here is a link to the brief. It probably requires a subscription to access. Over the next few days we will probably come up with a way to provide a public access link to the full set of briefs in the case.

In the case, we ask the court to compel EPA to go back and re-assess the “science” of greenhouse gas “endangerment.” The briefing process gave EPA the chance to put its best foot forward as to the scientific basis underlying the finding of endangerment. What is truly remarkable is the extent to which EPA, not to mention the entire government-backed scientific establishment, completely lack any real scientific basis for the claim of great “danger.” The briefing has made that embarrassingly clear.

Equally remarkable is that the job of challenging EPA’s pseudoscientific smokescreen is left to a small handful of individuals working completely pro bono. The fear of being labeled a “science denier” by leftist groupthinkers is apparently strong enough to force almost everyone who should know better off the field of battle. However, we are grateful to the CO2 Coalition for its support in the form of an excellent amicus brief. The CO2 Coalition is the principal group of real scientists willing to continue to speak out about the fake science behind the climate change scare. The CO2 Coalition’s amicus brief was mainly the work of Professors William Happer of Princeton and Richard Lindzen of MIT.

I won’t try to go into great detail about the arguments in the brief, but here are two of the main ones:

The Made-up Surface Temperature Record

EPA relies on so-called “surface temperature” data, dating back to the late 1800s, which show substantial atmospheric warming over that period. The data derive from a network of ground-based thermometers. There are many, many problems with these data, mostly relating to the undeniable fact that the people who are responsible for compiling and maintaining the data massage, manipulate and in-fill information for various purposes, leading to an overall record that is thoroughly corrupted and unfit for any policy purpose. My thirty-part series “The Greatest Scientific Fraud Of All Time” addresses the processes by which the massaging and manipulating leads to reductions in earlier-reported temperatures to enhance the apparent warming trend in the record.

But for purposes of this case, we focused on an aspect of the surface temperature record that is even clearer and less ambiguous: there is virtually no reported data as to surface temperature from the Southern Hemisphere oceans from before the year 2000. The Southern Hemisphere oceans are approximately 40% of the earth’s surface, and the period before 2000 is more than 80% of the surface temperature record. All the data for that vast proportion of the record has been fabricated by the people who are promoting the climate change scare. That fact leaves a gaping hole in EPA’s rationale for the Endangerment Finding. In its Brief, EPA simply tried to avoid the subject. From the Reply Brief, page 14:

EPA says the argument presents nothing new, and that it previously rejected similar arguments, and that the D.C. Circuit affirmed in Coal. for Responsible Regul., Inc. v. E.P.A, 684 F.3d 102 (D.C. Cir. 2012). But EPA has not shown where in the Endangerment Finding documents the lack of data from the Southern hemisphere oceans was addressed.

The Failure Of Real-World Data To Validate The Models On Which EPA Relies

You might think that using real world data to validate hypotheses is the essence of science. But in the field of climate science, and particularly of government-backed climate science, when the data don’t support the model the response is a barrage of excuses and evasions.

Besides the failure of temperatures to rise at nearly the rate models have predicted, there is an even more definitive and embarrassing model failure, which is the absence of the predicted “tropical hot spot.” The “hot spot” was fundamental to EPA’s claimed understanding of the mechanisms of world climate that formed one of the bases of the Endangerment Finding. At pages 15-19 of the Reply Brief we beat EPA over the head with the fact that the “hot spot” can’t be found.

In EPA’s Brief, it responded as to the “hot spot” not by showing that it existed, but rather by claiming that they never said it was important. From the Reply Brief, page 18:

EPA’s contention at p. 48 of its brief, and p. 21 of the Denial that the model- observation mismatch on the Tropical Hot Spot is not important is inconsistent with its previous position on this topic. The Technical Support Document for the 2009 Endangerment Finding at p. 50 says that if the Hot Spot were missing it would be “an important inconsistency.” Now that it is proven to be missing, even by the IPCC, EPA says it is an unimportant inconsistency. EPA’s double-talk does not meet the requirement of rational decision making.

There is plenty more in the Reply Brief for your reading pleasure, should you have the time.

CALIFORNIA REINTRODUCES BILL TO INCENTIVIZE AFTERMARKET ZEV POWERPLANT CONVERSIONS

Overview: California Senator Anthony Portantino has introduced SEMA-sponsored legislation (SB 301) to create a financial rebate program for converting gas- and diesel-powered motor vehicles into zero emissions vehicles (ZEVs).

If enacted, SB 301 will offer Californians up to $2,000 for converting their car or truck into a ZEV. Currently, the state’s existing rebate programs serve only those purchasing new vehicles—none assist with ZEV conversions of gas-powered vehicles that started their life with an internal-combustion engine.

SEMA opposes the government choosing winners and losers in the marketplace, including California’s 2035 ban on new gas- and diesel-powered cars and trucks. SEMA remains committed to protecting the automotive community’s rich heritage while also embracing innovations with emerging technologies.

THE LONE STAR RALLY. A HIDDEN TEXAS GEM (ONLY 400,000 KNOW ABOUT!)

January 25, 2023

With 400,000 people attending the annual Lone Star Rally in Galveston, Texas, the first week of November each year, it is the largest bike rally of any kind in Texas and presumably the largest 4-day motorcycle rally in the US. Its popularity can be attributed to three main factors: the Island’s ideal location, its incredible character, and the timing, being the last big event before winter comes screaming in.

Starting with location, being less than an hour’s ride from Houston with its population upwards of two million, geography has a lot to do with the numbers. Moving out a little further, three to five hours gets you to big population centers like Dallas-Fort Worth, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Austin, and San Antonio. That’s a lot of people to draw from!

I’m confident from talking with people and observing license plates that most of the visitors are from Texas, with a decent representation from surrounding states and a smattering from as far away as the coasts and overseas. (Maybe the organizers can hang an oversized map as they do in Sturgis and Laconia, so people can mark where they hail from, and then we’ll know for sure.)

As for the character of the event, it is rich in the historical roots of Galveston Island. Promotor Melissa Penland, who in so many ways is the engine that keeps this rally going, believes “much of the rally’s success has to do with the Island’s ambiance and character. There are beautiful old hotels, restaurants, the harbor, the seawall, and the downtown Strand historic district. With all the overlooking balconies, it has a wonderful Mardi Gras feel to it.”

NEWS FROM THE U.S. Capitol—It Is Open for Business

After nearly 3 years of limited access, the U.S. Capitol and its related office buildings are now fully open to the public. One of the first acts by Kevin McCarthy after his election to Speaker of the House was to reopen all office buildings under his control, the U.S. Senate followed suit.

Starting in March of 2020 access to the Capitol Complex was severely limited. During the last three years visitors were at times required to state their vaccination status, wear masks, be escorted to and from meetings and forbidden from visiting the cafeteria and coffee shops. Despite these restrictions, bikers from around the country still made it to D.C. for “Bikers Insider the Beltway” in 2021 and 2022. With the reopening we are excited for an even bigger and better meeting this May!

MRF President Kirk “Hardtail” Willard and Wisconsin Legislative Director Steve Panten experienced the newly reopened Capitol Complex this week. The two were in town to meet newly elected Representative Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin’s 3rd district. Rep. Van Orden is a biker himself and rode his bike to the opening of the 118th Congress last month.

While in D.C. they also met with the new head of the Harley Davidson office, David Martin, to learn what Harley is open to. They even managed of few minutes of people watching in the Rayburn House Office building cafeteria for old times’ sake!

Remember “Bikers Inside the Beltway” runs from May 15th to 17th, 2023! To learn more about the event and register click here.

Federal Judge Rules Removing Gun Rights for Using Marijuana is Unconstitutional

US District Judge Patrick Wyrick has just made millions of marijuana users — particularly those in states where cannabis use has been legalized — very happy…at least those in the Tenth Circuit. The federal government lists marijuana as a Schedule 1 controlled substance. If you use it you stand to lose your gun rights. That’s why the ATF’s form 4473 background check form asks about it and now warns those who live in states where it’s been legalized.

VANCE & HINES Rolls into 2023 KOTB Season
with Veteran Talent and Championship Credentials

Santa Fe Springs CA – February 13, 2023 – Vance & Hines continues its run at the championship of MotoAmerica’s King of the Bagger series in 2023 with experienced riders and a crew coming off a championship in flat track racing. Both team riders, James Rispoli and Hayden Gillim, have previously ridden for the Vance & Hines/Mission/Harley-Davidson Team.

James Rispoli returns to the team after a strong 2022 season aboard the Harley-Davidson Road Glide. Rispoli earned a second place and a third-place finish in the six-race season, where he frequently diced with factory teams from Harley-Davidson and Indian.

Rispoli has a formidable racing resume in both flat track and road racing. After winning back-to-back AMA Pro SuperSport championships in the US, Rispoli raced for five years in the prestigious British Superbike championships, then returned to flat track, winning the 2020 AFT Production Twins title in dominant fashion with seven wins aboard a Vance & Hines-built Harley-Davidson XG750R. Rispoli will pilot a Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Road Glide bearing his signature #43 in 2023.

Gillim returns to the Vance & Hines King of the Baggers team after focusing exclusively on Superbike racing in 2022. While rejoining his former team, he’ll have a dramatically improved motorcycle to ride. The switch from Street Glide to Road Glide, along with the competition-driven development on the engine and chassis will give him a better handling and more powerful bike than his previous KOTB ride.

Gillim has racing experience in MotoAmerica, MotoGP, WERA and American Flat Track and has wins or championships in almost every class he’s ever raced. He has a winning pedigree as well. He’s a cousin of Nicky, Roger and Tommy Hayden and hails from racing hotspot, Owensboro, Kentucky.

Vance & Hines puts its top technical team on the KOTB program in 2023. Crew chief Steve Polk has the same tech team that helped Jesse Janisch win the AFT Production Twins championship in 2022. With team manager Craig Koontz and technicians Josh Sutter and Ricky Castro, there’s no doubt that this team knows how to create winning race bikes. Gene Burcham provides suspension expertise at each event on the circuit as well.

The team is sponsored by Mission Foods and uses specialized racing parts from Harley-Davidson.

MotoAmerica, seeing the popularity of the KOTB class increase each year, has expanded the race schedule in 2023 to seven of their ten race weekends. Each of those seven weekends will feature a KOTB double-header, making it a fourteen-race season for the Vance & Hines/Mission/Harley-Davidson team.

“We’re really happy to see interest in the class grow and the increase in the number of races this year,” said Team Manager Craig Koontz. “James, with his strong technical feedback and great riding, was a real asset to the team this past season. Having James and Hayden on the track together is going to be exciting to watch. We’re eager to get to Daytona to see how we stack up against the rest of the field.”

The King of the Bagger series is a racing class showcasing touring-style motorcycles with fairings and saddlebags. KOTB races take place at tracks around the country with the first of the bagger races slated for March 10 at the Daytona International Speedway.

NEW BUELL Super Cruiser— is a Roland Sands Design Collaboration

Grand Rapids, MI – Buell Motorcycle announced this week that a new Super Cruiser designed by Roland Sands of Roland Sands Design, Long Beach, CA, is in development for 2025, bringing two iconic brands together to create a one-of-a-kind motorcycle with a West Coast attitude.

“We are excited to take another big step forward in the continued growth of Buell. Today that big step forward is growing the Buell team here in West Michigan,” said Steve Laham, Chief Products, Development & Strategist Buell Motorcycle Co. “The Buell team’s expansion is in a multitude of areas of growth and will allow us to continue providing high performance motorcycles in the marketplace.”

Roland Sands & Roland Sands Design will bring the heat. Champion motorcycle racer turned custom bike builder, Sands is considered the King of Cool in styling cruisers, café racers, and many top brands’ iconic built bikes.

“When Bill first approached us about building a high-performance cruiser using the Buell motor, it was as if the bike designed itself,” said Roland Sands. “Considering the history of Buell and the market’s need for a truly high-performance cruiser, and the build quality of the existing Buell chassis parts, motor, and rolling kit, the project was a natural fit.”

The Super Cruiser will take advantage of Buell’s unique high-performance V-twin engine and innovative perimeter braking system and structural swingarm, delivering a bike with exceptional handling in a non-sport bike format.

“The design lends itself to the West coast scene where customization is part of bike culture,” said Melvin. “And Roland was enthusiastic about incorporating Buell technology into that culture, creating the fastest, coolest cruiser on the market.”

“I’ve been working on projects like this for 20-plus years, and this is the first time we’ve been able to build a performance cruiser without the typical V-twin performance compromises of weight and motor width and length,” said Sands.

At 450 lbs. and 175 hp, Sands’ chassis geometry delivers road-friendly handling that’s ready for the track. Using much of the standard Buell rolling kit, Sands engineered his chassis design to work with the swingarm, forks, original 17″ wheels, and brake system. “Ground clearance, bar position, and comfortable seating and foot positions are key to getting the cruiser look with sport bike handling,” said Sands.

The Super Cruiser solidifies that Buell is Back and building more than sport bikes. Out of the gate, this cruiser will lead performance in the category. It’s light, nimble, and high torque, incorporating all the main points that connect the rider to the ground, and it’s cracking open another part of the market – a younger crowd craving speed and performance in a cruiser.

Buell previewed the Super Cruiser’s proof of concept at a Private VIP Reveal Party at Roland Sands Design shop in Long Beach, CA on February 10.

About its potential, Sands is confident. “With correct geometry and an attitude to match? Yeah, that’s the business right there,” he said.

Buell Motorcycles is an American manufacturer and marketer of high-performance V-Twin motorcycles. Known for their fuel-in-frame and perimeter brake designs, Buell delivers an incredible ride and excitement at every turn. For future updates, follow us on social or visit our website News.

MRF Road Show Marches On

The leadership of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) continues our visits to annual state meetings with recent visits to Wisconsin and Ohio.

MRF President Kirk “Hardtail” Willard and Washington, D.C. lobbyist Rocky Fox made the trip to Marshfield, Wisconsin for the ABATE of Wisconsin Officers Training event. This annual event provides seminars and training to the regional and district leaders of ABATE of Wisconsin and helps establish expectations and goals for all members. Seminars included the ABCs of Running a Successful Region, Strategic Planning Procedures and How to Effectively Lobby Lawmakers.

Saturday night, Rocky provided the keynote speech where he discussed the power of political engagement and the role that citizens play when petitioning their government about the issues they care about.

MRF Sustaining State Motorcyclist Rights Organization Representative Dave Dwyer and MRF Wisconsin State Representative Jennifer Abraham discussed the importance of joining the MRF and how vital it is for state organizations to support the MRF’s efforts in Washington, D.C.

Sunday morning ended with Hardtail talking about the 2022 MRF legislative accomplishments and 2023 goals. It was a great weekend in Wisconsin and this year the temperature was a comfortable 21 degrees, a far cry from last year’s event where temperatures hit 19 degrees below zero! But just in case ABATE of Wisconsin gifted Rocky an awesome insulated bib for the trip back next year.

Earlier in the month, ABATE of Ohio hosted its annual event in Columbus, Ohio. Hardtail also made the visit to Columbus in his official capacity as MRF President and by his side was Jay Jackson, MRF Vice President. The two were joined by former ABATE of Ohio Executive Director, Gary Sellers, who also served as a longtime MRF board member. Dick “Slider” Gilmore a passionate MRF supporter also made the trip to the Buckeye State.

Jay Jackson spoke about the victories and challenges bikers are facing in Washington, D.C. with an eye towards what’s ahead in the coming years. One of the highlights of the event was Slider’s presentation titled “What Every Street Rider Should Know.” Slider is a legend in the motorcycling community and when he talks everyone should listen!

Thanks to the riders in Wisconsin and Ohio for inviting the MRF to participate in your statewide events. We look forward to visiting more states in the coming weeks as the MRF continues our 2023 road show.

Rachel Naomi Remen, a physician, therapist, and author of Kitchen Table Wisdom, writes: “Wholeness is never lost, it is only forgotten. Integrity rarely means that we need to add something to ourselves: It is more an undoing than a doing, a freeing ourselves from beliefs we have about who we are and ways we have been persuaded to ‘fix’ ourselves to know who we genuinely are. Even after many years of seeing, thinking, and living one way, we are able to reach past all that to claim our integrity and live in a way we may never have expected to live.”

Indian Motorcycle Racing Commits More than $405,000 in Combined Privateer Contingency For King of the Baggers, Super Hooligan® & American Flat Tracks National Championship

MINNEAPOLIS (FEBRUARY 16, 2023) – 2022 was a historic year for Indian Motorcycle Racing, capturing an unprecedented triple crown with championships across three different racing classes, including MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers (KOTB), Super Hooligan National Championship (SHNC) and Progressive Insurance American Flat Tracks SuperTwins classes. Now America’s First Motorcycle Company enters the 2023 racing season intent on defending its triple crown and raising the bar yet again with its factory racing program.

Running three No. 1 plates, Indian Motorcycle Racing welcomes back reigning champions Tyler O’Hara and Jared Mees, along with KOTB and SHNC factory rider Jeremy McWilliams. The company has also announced more than $405,000 in combined privateer contingency for KOTB, SHNC and AFT.

Founded by racers who developed America’s first motorized bicycles, fueled by a desire to go faster and win races, Indian Motorcycle has been racing, and winning, for 122 years. From founder Oscar Hedstrom’s endurance racing dominance at the turn of the century, to O.C. Godfrey winning the first Mountain Circuit race at the famed Isle of Man in 1911, to Burt Munro’s land speed records or the Wrecking Crew’s domination in flat track in the 1950s and, more recently, it’s six consecutive AFT Championships from 2017-2022, the list of history-making racing milestones is unparalleled. Now the innovative American motorcycle company prepares to defend a triple crown.

“Racing and an overriding spirit of competition has been a driving force for Indian Motorcycle for more than a century, and that competitive fire continues to drive us forward to this day,” said Gary Gray, Vice President – Racing, Technology and Service for Indian Motorcycle. “We’re incredibly proud of the success we had in 2022 with three different championships, but it’s only going to get tougher in 2023, with our competition gunning for us more than ever. But that challenge is what motivates us and pushes us to get better every day, and we’re chomping at the bit to go racing in 2023.”

KEEPING THE BANDIT’S CANTINA BAD JOKE LIBRARY WIDE OPEN

Have you ever wondered who first uttered the phrase “You Gotta Be Kidding Me?”

Well, the story goes way back to when the Father of America, George Washington, was crossing the Delaware river with his troops. There were 33 men in Washington’s boat.

It was extremely dark and storming furiously and the water was tossing them about.

Finally, Washington grabbed Corporal Raymond Dicks and stationed him at the front of the boat with a lantern. He ordered him to keep swinging it, so they could see where they were heading. Corporal Dicks, through driving rain and cold, continued swinging the lantern back and forth, back and forth. Then a big gust of wind and a wave hit and threw the Corporal and his lantern into the Delaware. Washington and his troops searched for nearly an hour trying to find him, but to no avail. All of them felt terrible, for Corporal Dicks had been one of their favorites.

Sometime later, Washington and his troops landed on the other side, wet and totally exhausted. He rallied the troops and told them that they must go on.

Another hour later, one of his men said, ‘General, I see lights ahead.’

They trudged toward the lights and came upon a huge house. What they didn’t know was that this was a house of ill repute, hidden in the forest to serve all who came.

General Washington pounded on the door, his men crowding around him. The door swung open, and much to his surprise stood a beautiful woman. A huge smile came across her face, to see so many men standing there. Washington was the first to speak, ‘Madam, I am General George Washington and these are my men. We are tired, wet, exhausted, and desperately need warmth and comfort.’

Again, the Madam looked at all the men standing there, and with a broad smile on her face, said, ‘Well, General, you have come to the right place. We can surely give you warmth and comfort. How many men do you have?’

Washington replied, ‘Well, Madam, there are 33 men – actually 32 of us without Dicks.’

And the Madam said, ‘You gotta be kidding’ me. ‘

SONG OF THE WEEK, THE WILD ONES—By Waylon Jennings

[Verse 1:]
Straight out of nowhere
And a little bit out of our minds
We were courting disaster
With one foot over the line
It was one for the show
And two for ol’ Shorty and me
We were the wild ones
We had the town up a tree

[Chorus:]
We were the wild ones
The ones they couldn’t control
We were survivors
Good hearts, body and soul
We were the winners
Cause we didn’t know we could fail
We were the wild ones
And we had the world by the tail
[Verse 2:]
She was a lady
When a lady wasn’t easy to be
Hangin’ in limbo
She started hangin’ with me
We were the music
Cause we had a song we could sing
We were the wild ones
And we had the world by the tail…

THE SCIENCE BEHIND MIRACLES
Maybe explains the healthy bikers riding at age of 80+

How our minds push our bodies to defy expectations, beliefs, and even our own biology—in short, to make miracles.

At first glance, Wim Hof does seem superhuman

Modern science has revealed a number of fascinating mechanisms for how the brain influences the rest of the body, forming a string of enticing bread crumbs leading toward a more satisfying understanding of some of the limits of the human body—and how people cheat them.

Take one fascinating lead: the effect certain expectations have on bodily functions. The mind has a propensity to make predictions, and then ensure those predictions come to pass through internal “pharmacies” that, when lumped together, are also called placebo effects.

Alia Crum, a psychologist at Stanford says, “I don’t think the power of mind is limitless,” she said. “But I do think we don’t yet know where those limits are.”

KAMALA HARRIS— explaining the egg situation

“You have…..eggs. Eggs are things…..we have. They’re at the supermarket…….and we buy them…….and we bring them home. We put them in the fridge……and then……a few at a time……we remove them……..and fry them…..or scramble them……..i like them poached…….HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA……….Yes, you do too? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…….and so we have eggs……..we cook them and eat them……….and then…..at some point……..the eggs are gone. We go to get more…….and there are none there. After a while……not finding any eggs…….we have to eat something else. The choices in America are a lot of them. This is what makes us great as Americans. Freedom to choose. If there are no EGGS………we can eat something else! Right? Am I right? You eat other things, right? So, YES……we have no eggs. But we as Americans can overcome this. We can adapt. We can unite. We can rejoice…….and we can prosper. Thank you.”

NHRA Approves New Suzuki Hayabusa Bodywork, Vance & Hines Team
Confident after Successful Test Session

Santa Fe Springs CA – February 14, 2023 – Energized by a positive test session in Gainesville, along with approval from the NHRA for the first new Suzuki bodywork in over a decade, the Vance & Hines/Mission/Suzuki Pro Stock Motorcycle (PSM) Team is eager for the 2023 NHRA season to start.

On February 1st and 2nd, Vance & Hines’ NHRA PSM team completed preseason testing at the site of the season’s first race, Gainesville (FL) Raceway. This was the first PSM test session for new team member Gaige Herrera and the focus was on the setup for their Suzuki Hayabusa race bikes, which will be piloted by Herrera and four-time champion Eddie Krawiec. The Gen 3 Hayabusa bodywork impressed the team, with multiple runs at 200+ MPH, and achieving the goal of being a stable, race-ready design.

“This was a great week for our team,” said Crew Chief Andrew Hines. “Working with Gaige and Eddie, seeing how well our bikes performed, and now receiving approval from the NHRA, everything is coming together for this season.”

“One of our objectives with our return to NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Drag Racing was to develop an all-new body modeled after the Gen 3 Hayabusa,” said Kerry Graeber, Suzuki Motor USA’s Senior Vice President. “Vance & Hines has done a terrific job with the new body and we’re pleased that it performed so well at its first test. Our vision is for all competitors racing Suzuki motorcycles in the NHRA series to transition to the new body.”

Graeber added that Suzuki will offer assistance to teams riding Suzuki PSM bikes to move to the new body.

This was the first test session using the new Gen 3 Hayabusa bodywork, designed to replicate the look of the newest generation of the legendary Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle. The carbon fiber components were designed by Vance & Hines in collaboration with ADC Inc, using digital scans of a new production Hayabusa motorcycle. The new bodywork closely resembles the look of the Hayabusa while accommodating a 10-inch-wide rear tire and a wheelbase that is ten inches longer than stock.

The new Gen 3 Hayabusa PSM bodywork is symmetrical, meaning the air flow on each side of the bike is similar, or aerodynamically balanced. This allows the rider to guide the motorcycle with less physical input.

The rider cockpit is designed to accommodate a wider variety of riders, allowing both small and large stature riders to fit on the bike.

Rider ergonomics, the interaction of rider and controls, is improved as well, allowing riders to more easily and comfortably ride the motorcycle.

NHRA has a strict process for approving new bodywork, and Vance & Hines worked closely with NHRA and Suzuki on the development and approval of the new design. With NHRA’s recent approval, Vance & Hines is working with Leading Edge Composites for production of the final Gen 3 carbon fiber panels. The bodywork will be available to all Suzuki-riding teams through Vance & Hines. Reed Motorsports, with riders Cory Reed and Joey Gladstone, has already placed orders for the Gen 3 Hayabusa Pro Stock bodywork.

The 2023 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle season kicks off at the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida on March 9-12, 2023.

MOVIE PICK OF THE WEEK — The Fighter

I just got around to see the 2010 movie “The Fighter” based on the life of boxer Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund. It’s an incredible performance from the entire cast and crew. With all that is known but unspoken about America, I think this movie should be a must-watch in the curriculum of schools everywhere.

The Fighter on imdb.com
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0964517/
( Rated R for language throughout, drug content, some violence and sexuality )

The horrifying epidemic of drug addiction is showcased without glamour or glory of crime. After the 1995 movie “The Basketball Diaries” (starring a very young Leonardo DiCaprio), this movie about a fighting fit Eklund getting reduced to a farce, a satire of himself, is something any parent would eventually want to make their teenagers aware about. If only teenagers would care to take advice from anyone at all!

The Basketball Diaries (1995)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112461/

A promising youth and athlete is not the only thing wasted in this story. “The Fighter” is a movie demonstrating how entire families, communities, entire town / city gets impacted through drug abuse.

While I have no personal experience with drugs, the drama and enacting of circumstances surely don’t appear to be pretentious or preachy. There is indeed a life-story told in this movie. It ain’t your regular “Reefer Madness” movie.

You can’t eliminate something by banning it or taxing it or shaming it. We all know dependence through the big three legal drugs, namely, Tobacco, Alcohol and Sugar. It’s not as if cars kill people or bars kill people. Temptation and social atmosphere, economy and opportunities, there are a thousand things one can connect that leads up to a life of, for example crime or drug addiction or full-scholarship.

Some may say, people aren’t good or bad — it’s the circumstances that are either good or bad.

Do take time out and have a look at this movie. If not for its covert message, then just to admire the performance of Batman actor “Christian Bale” (he is a true Superman-of-acting, ain’t he?)’ as Dicky Eklund, the man who floored Mayweather. The screenplay is quite fluid and will keep you glued to your seats.

Of course, Micky Ward established a name for himself in boxing. He is not a shadow of his brother but both of them believed in each other — and thus they overcame trying circumstances.

An elderly man rear-ends a guy driving an expensive sports car.

Enraged, the guy hops out of his car and confronts the old man. “Look what you did to my car,” he yells.

“you’re gonna give me $10,000 right now, or I’m gonna beat you to a bloody pulp!”

“Oh my,” says the old man, I don’t have that kind of money. Let me call my son, he trains dolphins, and he’ll know what to do.

dolphins, the other driver huffs while rolling his eyes. The old man pulls out his phone, dials his son, and just as the son answers, the irate man snatches the phone away from the old man.

“So, YOU’RE a dolphin trainer, huh? Well, your old man here just rear-ended my car, and I need ten grand right now, or I’m gonna beat you AND your old man to a bloody pulp”.

“I’ll be there in 10 minutes, says the voice calmly on the other end”.

Exactly ten minutes later, a jeep pulls up, and a guy hops out and proceeds to pulverize the bully, leaving him in a bloody heap on the side of the road.

When he’s finished, he walks over to his father and says: “for the LAST TIME, dad…. I train SEALS…. NAVY SEALS…. NOT dolphins”

THE CLIMATE CRUSADERS Are Coming for Electric Cars Too – Report reveals ‘the ultimate goal: tiny, uncomfortable apartments & bicycles for all’

Allysia Finley in WSJ: Replacing all gasoline-powered cars with electric vehicles won’t be enough to prevent the world from overheating. So people will have to give up their cars.

That’s the alarming conclusion of a new report from the University of California, Davis and “a network of academics and policy experts” called the Climate and Community Project. The report offers an honest look at the vast personal, environmental and economic sacrifices needed to meet the left’s net-zero climate goals.

Progressives’ dirty little secret is that everyone will have to make do with much less—fewer cars, smaller houses and yards, and a significantly lower standard of living. … The report concludes that the auto sector’s “current dominant strategy,” which involves replacing gasoline-powered vehicles with EVs without decreasing car ownership and use, “is likely incompatible” with climate activists’ goal to keep the planet from warming by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius compared with preindustrial times. Instead, the report recommends government policies that promote walking, cycling and mass transit.

A Natural Resources Defense Council report last year on lithium mining also concluded that the government needs “to reduce long-term dependency on single-passenger vehicles.” The Inflation Reduction Act included billions of dollars to promote bicycling and so-called livable neighborhoods. …

California’s Democratic Legislature last year even passed a bill creating a $1,000 tax credit (originally proposed at $7,500) for households that don’t own cars. “We can invest in the future by providing financial incentives for Californians to transition from vehicles to more sustainable options,” state Sen. Anthony Portantino said.

“But wait, the bicycles can’t have seats or any fossil fuel products, like tires.” –Bandit

OPTIONS CAN BE DAUNTING—Especially if you have a list of dire projects looming over you like a gray sky.

Ah, but the other option is to reframe your list into something very positive, full of love and accomplishments.

Just completing an article is a rush to me. Like a song writer finishing a song. It’s a creative rush, no matter where it goes.

I’m going to help Ann Robinson publish another piece about her husband, Hal Robinson. He was and still is the motorcycle pen and ink master. Watch for it next week.

Buck Lovell is writing a piece about Charlie, the Rust Collector and vintage motorcycle builder in Boulder Canyon, for Cycle Source Magazine. I’m buried in book projects, Cantina Episodes and tech articles, yet I would have loved to write the piece about Charlie’s bike. Guess it’s just engrained in me.

Need to complete a couple of little tasks on the Salt Torpedo for our test runs in April. Carl Pusser suggested a support bracket for the S&S carb. I sorta completed that. Needs an adjustment.

I also need to install a GPS speedo, and I bought a cheap bastard on Amazon. There’s no way to mount it, except on a dash. Shifting to plan B. Someone suggested RB racing. The Redhead suggested a bicycle GPS handlebar speedo.

Recently I made it out to Paughco’s Plant in Carson City, NV and got to see the Billy bike trike they were making. They can turn any classic chop into a Trike.

Got to spend some time with Ron Paugh, who has been in the chopper world longer than I have. He’s still at it, helping bikers all over the world build their dreams.

The Redhead kicked up an Elk Steak dinner for Valentines day. Killer. We could have gone to the Midnight Star for a $50 buck a plate dinner. Fortunately, it was snowing.

I’m making progress in the shop on my VLXAFL5. That’s like the secret serial number. I just bought a Vulcan 205 welder and had to buy tips for the gun. Irish Rich came over to coach me and check it out. He was impressed

These came from Arc-Zone.com. It’s a cool welding supply company.

Rich and I tried to break into this Miller hood plate to replace the batteries. I wondered why there was no Youtube film on replacing the batteries. I probably busted it trying to peel it apart.

We hung out in Deadwood for Mardi Gras Weekend. Had a blast attending diners and the parade.

Here’s a shot of my grandson, Frankie at a show in Deadwood last year and his 5-Ball Racing Leathers booth at Huggie’s David Mann Chopper fest in Ventura last weekend.

I almost destroyed this fender trying to claw the fender bracket out of the interior. I ultimately cut off the brackets and reshaped the fender. Decided not to use it, though.

A brother from the Mecum auction asked about my Peashooter. This is a lousy shot, but it’s cool.

Here are some shots of Irish Rich’s latest customer project. It’s coming together. Rich is a careful master.

Can almost see the burnt Panhead patio table as the snow subsides.

There are more stories headed your way, more bike builds and event action. Let me know if you like anything in particular from Bikernet. Don’t worry, I won’t send you a survey.
