EDITOR'S NOTE: Lehman trikes donated one of these sharp Victory Kingpin based trikes to the Sturgis Museum Kids and Chrome 2008 Charity auction. I was impressed with the donation and the trike, so we investigated for Bikernet readers. Check it out:
In 2004, Victory Motorcycles and Lehman Trikes jointly agreed to create two concept vehicles for the 50th Anniversary of Polaris Industries. The response to these concepts was so overwhelming that Lehman Trikes and Victory Motorcycles entered into a joint development arrangement to ultimately bring the product to market.
The Kingpin was chosen because it is an excellent cruiser platform for such a unique offering. Victory’s own 100 cubic inch Freedom power train and 6-speed True Overdrive transmission deliver phenomenal performance. The PitBoss styling is like nothing else on the road. The designers began with long flowing fenders and “boat-tail” body shape reminiscent of a 1930s Auburn Speedster. Victory Motorcycle is uniquely positioned and committed to re-defining what an American Motorcycle Company can be. Additionally, they are not afraid to challenge peoples’ perceptions.
The PitBoss represents a trike industry milestone and significant Lehman first. It was the first 3-wheeled motorcycle to be jointly developed and fully supported by both the trike manufacturer and motorcycle OEM. Additionally, at the time of its introduction, the Pit Boss was the most thoroughly developed and tested product in Lehman Trikes’ history. Over two years and over a half million simulated test miles were recorded and analyzed in partnership with Victory’s engineers. New state of the art facilities and equipment were utilized to test and validate the design of the trike.
The PitBoss is unique and appeals to anyone with an interest in trikes and who wants to stand out from the crowd. It portrays a very different image than what is typically associated with trikes in terms of both curb appeal and performance. We also believe that it will give many riders an entirely different starting point for their own custom creations. This machine is about fun, style and power. It is not an entry level trike, nor is it a luxury touring machine. PitBoss has had significant impact on what we know, or thought we knew, about the conventional demographics of trike owners.
The first 50 PitBoss trikes to roll off the assembly line were designated as First Editions with special branding. They also were delivered to the customer with a specially designed poker chip case, professional clay poker chips, and cards all branded with the PitBoss name. The poker chip cases are high quality professional items that can be ordered through PitBoss dealers as an accessory item.
All of the advantages expected of a Lehman trike as well as Lehman conversions have been included in the design of the PitBoss. The Pit Boss design encompasses Lehman’s twenty plus years of experience and expertise in the development and production of three wheeled vehicles. The Lehman “No-Lean” philosophy is what makes Lehman Trikes the most stable and precise handling trikes on the market. The “No-Lean” minimizes flex in the swing-arm and rear-end systems to maximize stability and improve handling. This ensures that the center of gravity is less prone to roll and lean outward while cornering which adversely affects vehicle stability.
The PitBoss is available in super steel gray, black, and midnight cherry. Recently, Lehman announced that they now have farings and tour boxes available as accessories to the PitBoss.
