THE SECRET BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for July 14, 2016

Hey,

There’s a secret. Another challenging week on the home front. I was told by the city to call for an inspection and they would arrive within 24 hours. I called on Monday. No one has called or come over, yet.

Now, I could look at this from several perspectives. The Secret tells us to look at it from the absolutely best overall perspective. It’s all good and the inspector will come at just the right time for the most wonderful results, and we will live happily ever after.

We’ve had several visitors staying over at the headquarters also this week. One is an extremely well educated and talented woman who has be fighting depression for sometime, severe depression. She is beginning to understand how to change her thoughts from down to up.

Another friend and his family just rode across the country in order to fly to Hawaii to visit a service friend in a leper colony on the island Malakai. It’s now a bed and breakfast joint. Edge, the producer of the SmokeOut is facing business challenges and has a friend with serious cancer.

Here’s one of the codes from the Secret: Your Thoughts and Feelings Control your Life.

Think about that while wandering through the news. This week the Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by Las Vegas BikeFest, Cycle Source Magazine, ChopperTown, Iron Trader News, and the Motorcycle Rider Foundation.

Let’s hit it.

NEWS FROM MRF OFFICES IN WASHINGTON D.C.–
Happy to inform you that I received word that last evening, Representatives Reid Ribble (R-WI) and Tim Walberg (R-MI) introduced H.Res.831 – “Promoting awareness of motorcycle profiling and encourage collaboration and communication with the motorcycle community and law enforcement officials to prevent instances of profiling.”

This is the first step in addressing motorcycle profiling from a national perspective. Please note that this is a RESOLUTION and therefore is not legally enforceable, however it will help pave the way for future action and also can be used as a discussion piece as certain states work to pass bills addressing the issue at the local level.

I have attached the measure to this email. Note that the version I have does not yet have a bill number, but it has been reported out as H.Res.831 if you want to search on congress.gov. The measure has been referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

Now begins our hard word of securing additional co-sponsors for the proposal and trying to get a companion introduced in the Senate. We have our work cut out for us especially given the limited number of legislative days before the end of the session in 2016.

As many of you know, Congress is adjourning today in preparation for the political conventions over the next two weeks. Then, starting in August, they will be back in their home districts. This is a great opportunity for you to meet with your elected official in person and request their support for this resolution.

I will be in touch in the coming days to provide you with additional analysis as well as talking points you should feel free to use in conversations with your Member of Congress in order to get them signed on as a co-sponsor to H.Res.831.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

“I Shot One Of Them,” Brevard Deputy Tells 911–
Deputy Yousef Hafza has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the June 19 shooting.

Clarence Howard, 25, left, died after a shooting June 19, 2016. Off-duty BCSO deputy Yousef Hafza is charged in the shooting.

State investigators released several 9-1-1 calls Wednesday detailing the moments after an off-duty Brevard County sheriff’s deputy said he shot a 25-year-old man during an apparent road rage incident on Father’s Day morning.

The deputy, Yousef Hafza, has since been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the June 19 shooting death of Clarence Howard. He also faces an attempted second-degree murder charge for firing on the driver of the car involved.

“Hey, listen … I’m an off-duty deputy and I just had some guys try to attack me…I shot one of them” said the 32-year-old officer, during the first portion of his six-minute long call. He initially sounded calm as he told dispatchers he had been chased by two men in a dark-colored Honda.

Initially the state agency did not release the 9-1-1 call for help by the driver, a man identified as Howard’s brother-in-law. But the call, the first made to police reporting the shooting, was released later Wednesday after requests by FLORIDA TODAY.

“Help me! Help me! Help me! (He’s) been shot,” shouted Howard’s brother-in law as dispatchers tried to glean details of the late-morning shooting.

“Breathe, (expletive) breathe,” the brother-in-law’s frantic pleas becoming screams for help on the desolate highway. “Oh my God,” the man said, sobbing after he told dispatchers how a man got out of his vehicle and opened fire on them.

Family members and friends of Howard, who will hold a balloon release for the victim in Palm Bay on Saturday, also called for prayers and forgiveness for Hafza, while noting that they believe he should go to trial or make a plea in the case.

The incident unfolded as Howard and the driver, who went to get air for a bicycle tire, were traveling westbound on Emerson Drive in Palm Bay and encountered Hafza in his vehicle. They then ended up at St. Johns Heritage Parkway. Once there, reports show Hafza stopped his car, prompting Howard and the other man to get out of their vehicle.
Authorities said Hafza never identified himself as a deputy or called 9-1-1 to report the incident before shooting.

Six shell casings from Hafza’s department-issued .40 caliber gun were found about 50 feet from where Howard collapsed after being shot under the right arm, investigators reported. Howard was paralyzed instantly, according to arrest documents obtained by FLORIDA TODAY.

COWS

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 12 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION ON MOTMS–  Each year as we approach Meeting of the Minds, we usually have some challenge going on with regard to membership. Typically, this is just the best recruiter, and/or the top recruiting states by percentage of membership. We do this because we want to recognize those states who do a great job keeping our organization and our movement strong.

Membership is the backbone of the MRF, and we rely on our members to take action when called upon. We also rely on their membership dollars to help pay for the services we provide – whether the MRF reports, our website, or other printed material and collateral to help propagate our messages.

We also recognize that many States’ Motorcycle Rights Organizations are also having membership retention issues, and the MRF is not immune. In fact, it’s a trickle down-effect, which year-after-year causes us to consider cutting back on services to keep our organization viable. The MRF Board has taken a number of steps to reduce costs, but we can’t continue this forever without making noticeable cuts in what you see and perceive to be valuable.

Please contact those members who’ve expired, or are expiring. Encourage them to renew and if not, find out why. Contact those who are members, thank them for their continued support, and encourage them to invite their friends to join!

If you require assistance in messaging or other support, please reach out to any of us – we stand ready to assist you!

“Riding with the leaders” requires all of us to be leaders. Thank-you for being a leader by helping to rebuild our membership!

Have a great weekend everyone! It’s been over a week since I’ve been on my bike and I already know what I will be doing this weekend. The curse of the office being a half of a mile from my place is that riding seems foolish.

DISTRACTED DRIVERS From New Mexico–
Increase in motorcycle crashes in New Mexico: We are at 117 motorcycle crashes reported to the NMMRO in 2016 with 25 fatalities. At this time last year there were only 81 crashes reported to us. Below is a story KOB featured on the Onagers MC Distracted Driving Run on July 9th and Biker blessing by local motorcycle ministries.

–Annette Torrez
NM MRF Rep

Bikers from several motorcycle groups trekked across the city Saturday to draw attention to distracted driving.

More than 200 motorcycle riders rode from the Duke City Harley Davidson store at 8603 Lomas Blvd. to Thunderbird Harley Davidson at 5000 Alameda Blvd.

Motorcycles are at particular risk when other drivers are not paying attention to the road, said Jonathan “Blinker” Cannon, a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. He said three CVMA members crashed as a result of distracted drivers.

“The first member to crash was actually a hit-and-run,” Cannon said. “We are out there and we are being killed by distracted drivers.”

TOUGH LUCK FOR YOSHIMURA SUZUKI RIDERS AT SOUTHWICK–

The Motocross Championship to the Wick 338, in Southwick, Massachusetts, did not go according to plan for Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing. Although Blake Baggett was able to pilot his RM-Z to a solid eighth in qualifying and fill-in rider, Matt Bisceglia led the first laps of the consolation race, their day ended early after tumbles sidelined both riders.

Baggett crashed in timed qualifying and again in the first moto, tweaking the shoulder he injured early in the season. He struggled to a 24th-place finish in the first moto and elected not to start the second.

Bisceglia fell hard while leading the consolation race by a large margin. After a trip to the local hospital he learned that he had sustained fractured ribs and a partially collapsed lung from the incident.

For Baggett the return to Southwick began with a hard get off in the second practice session. In spite of the fall he’d been able to push his Yoshimura Suzuki RM-Z450 to a time of 2:04.948, good enough for a solid eighth in timed qualifying.

“I had the big crash in practice number two and dodged a bullet,” Baggett explained. “It was one of the biggest ones I’ve had. I just made a little mistake and over-jumped the tabletop and had a big get-off at the bottom.

“I got 24th in the first moto. I went down in the first turn and the shoulder was just too weak and I decided to call it quits for today. It’s definitely not what I’d hoped for. I hated pulling out and not fighting to the end, but I think it was our best option.”

Bisceglia had a tough time in qualifying, but seemed to get things turned around in the 450 Consolation Race, where he sprinted off to an early lead aboard his Suzuki RM-Z450. He was well on his way to qualifying for the national, when he too was unlucky and went down.

“Matt worked his way to the front and had about a five-second lead,” explained Yoshimura Suzuki team manager Mike Webb. “He scrubbed a roller and his foot dragged across the top of the jump and kind of pulled him off the bike. Unfortunately, he went down pretty hard.”

The Yoshimura Suzuki squad now heads to Millville, Minnesota and the Spring Creek National this coming Saturday, July 16th. Live coverage begins at 11:00 am Eastern on www.promotocross.com. The motos can also be viewed on MAVTV and NBCSN.

IRWINDALE DRAGSTRIP THURSDAY NIGHT THERAPY & SUNDAY AFTERNOON SPEED —

LA County’s Only Weekly Dragstrip!
Every Thursday night*, from 5 to 10pm, Irwindale Dragstrip holds special on-track therapy sessions for licensed drivers of all ages right in their own cars, light trucks, and motorcycles.

Aggression is safely focused, tensions are released, and that old devil “need for speed” is satisfied in a safe (yet spectacular) fashion.

Otherwise know as NHRA Street Legal Drag Racing Test and Tune sessions … The opportunity to let one’s car all out (against the clock or lined up with another machine) is the real draw, and, for many, highly therapeutic.

The eighth-mile (660 foot) drag strip at Irwindale is the place where hundreds of street-smart drivers head every Thursday night to try to extract the maximum performance from their cars as well as themselves.

These are very intelligent men and women of all ages and stations, each of them intent on having some serious fun with their cars under conditions that are not patently dangerous either for themselves or for others.

They also really want the ability to fairly judge their own performance and the performance of their vehicles, and that’s p;art of the deal at a NHRA-sanctioned track like Irwindale with its electronically calibrated starting and timing system.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY SUNDAY! And … once one gets good at “cutting a light” on Thursday nights and the thirst for competition gets really going, there’s the NHRA Summit Series, a set of very hotly-contested races in four sharply-divided and intensely-competitive division that run on six Sundays at the Speedway.

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame to induct Gloria Struck, Ronnie Jones in October ceremony– First members of Class of 2016 announced

Motorcycling enthusiast and pioneer Gloria Struck and dirt-track racer Ronnie Jones will be among the honorees that the American Motorcyclist Association welcomes to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame this October.

“It’s my pleasure to announce the first two members of the Class of 2016,” said Ken Ford, a member of the AMA board of directors and chairman of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation board. “Gloria Struck has inspired generations of women to take up motorcycling for both sport and pleasure, and she remains a vibrant reminder of the emotional connection we can have with two wheels. Ronnie Jones fielded one of the most successful privateer professional dirt-track careers in history, and his accomplishments rank among his era’s most impressive.”

The 2016 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held during the American International Motorcycle Expo, which runs Oct. 13-16 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

The Class of 2016 includes three competition category inductees, three non-competition category inductees and two inductees from the well-qualified category. The well-qualified category was created to recognize candidates whose accomplishments have taken place outside the public eye but have played a significant role in motorcycling.

Struck and Jones, both from the well-qualified category, are the first two inductees announced for 2016.

Born in 1925 in an apartment attached to her family’s motorcycle shop in Clifton, N.J., Gloria Tramontin Struck is the reigning matriarch of the women’s riding community. A member of the Motor Maids since 1946, she embodies the mission of the organization by riding her Harley-Davidson to events such as Sturgis and Daytona from her New Jersey home.

In her lifetime, Struck has ridden in all 48 continental states several times over as well as in Europe. In the 1950s, she earned continental notoriety by completing a high-profile adventure ride in Canada from Toronto to Montreal.

Riding as a privateer, Ronnie Jones collected 10 AMA Grand National Championship wins and 32 podium finishes from 1980 through 1995. He finished in the top 10 of the series in 11 consecutive seasons and scored Grand National points in 21 consecutive seasons. Jones also scored wins in three of the four dirt-track disciplines of short track, TT and Half-mile, and just missed scoring a Mile victory several times, finishing in the runner-up position five times.

Although Jones retired from full-time competition after the 1999 season, he continued to race select events through 2014. During his most recent campaign, he set a record by scoring AMA Grand National Championship points 35 years after his rookie Expert season.

The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame induction ceremony is open to the public and, for the third consecutive year, takes place in conjunction with AIMExpo. AIMExpo brings together consumers, dealers, manufacturers, and the world press in one location for global product launches, demo rides, motorcycling seminars, and much more.

Tickets to the 2016 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be available soon at MailFilterGateway has detected a possible fraud attempt from “r20.rs6.net” claiming to be www.americanmotorcyclist.com.

HOMEFRONT HEROES AT THE CHIP–
The Homefront Heroes concept for the first time in the USA was revealed on Friday, July 1 at Buffalo Chip, South Dakota.

Homefront Heroes are the families, factories, farms, businesses, prayer warriors and public servants who support the military and after discharge — Veterans for a lifetime. Veterans and Patriots honor the Hometown HEROS.

During the annual raising of the flags and unveiling of the new Fallen Soldier Memorial on July 1, 2016, three 4×8’s double-sided signs were also shared that depict strong sensitive statements about Veterans, Patriotism and our Heritage.

The Buffalo Chip location has the potential to be a year-round attraction and destination point. Many coalitions of Veteran Organizations/Auxiliaries, Patriotic and motorcycle groups are represented. Their memberships deserve to share the mystique & heritage of this site.

One can feel the Spiritual Transcendence with all the displays/exhibits – while viewing the wide-open prairie, Bear Butte and the Black Hills. The campground and Festival Party Grounds has lots of history that can only be imagined – unless of course ‘experienced’.Buffalo Chip is an icon of the Black Hills!

On Thursday, August 11, Gary Wetzel, Cong. Medal of Honor – will lead the Freedom Ride from Spearfish to Buffalo Chip. On the day before, August 10th, he is inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame at the Lodge in Deadwood, SD. These events which are open to the Public — will be truly historical and memorable.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT BRINGS YOU THE MOST IMPORTANT WORD OF THE DAY—

TWEEDLE: TWEED-l

verb
1. to lure by or as by music: The Pied Piper tweedled the children into following him.
2. to produce high-pitched, modulated sounds, as a singer, bird, or musical instrument.

Quotes
Hark, from aloft his tortur’d Cat-gut squeals, /He tickles ev’ry String, to ev’ry Note / He bends his pliant Neck, his single Eye / Twinkles with Joy, his active Stump beats Time. / Let but this subtle Artist softly touch / The trembling Chords, the faint expiring Swain / Trembles no less, and the fond yielding Maid / Is tweedled into Love.

— William Somervile, “Hobbinol, or the Rural Games, ” 1740

Origin of tweedle

Tweedle is imitative in origin, though it may also be influenced by the verb wheedle. It entered English in the late 1600s.

THE SADDLEMEN GEL TECHNOLOGY STORY—
They developed the use of gel 28 years ago when David started to work with a buddy who made bicycle seats. The foam is the shock absorber and Saddlemen developed their own formula with their exclusive membranes and a sealed outer layer to protect protrusions from damaging the foam and from water getting inside.

This stuff is amazing.

In the late ‘80s, the Saddlemen team knew a disabled friend who could only ride 50 miles at a shot. The team tore his seat down and installed gel pads. He took it for a 250-mile test ride from St. Pete, Florida, to Ocala and back. “He was gushing,” Dave said. He had no problem during long miles supported by the viscous-elastic polymer gel pads worked into his seat.

LEGISLATIVE SUGGESTION BOX—
I once made a suggestion to the MRF regarding future legislative agenda item. I suggested they go after the EPA and our government to understand and support freedom wrapped around motorcycle emissions, and sound issues.

There is evidence to support Freedom when it comes to motorcycle emissions and loud pipes, which save lives. Just recently all motorcycle and automotive performance products were going to be banned by the EPA.

Maybe this could be the spark to encourage folks to support motorcycle rights organizations once more. It could lead to so much more in our society, and effort to honor and support freedom and control government intervention in our lives.

A brother just said, “You’re too much of a dreamer. They will never make any aspect of government smaller. The most obvious example is ethanol. There is absolutely no reason to support ethanol usage. We waste more energy making a gallon of ethanol than we get from the product. People are starving because we are making ethanol. It harms our equipment and engines. It’s just a scam, but it won’t go away.”

Here’s a for instance. Here is a list of some of the government agencies fucking with my life right now:

The City of Los Angeles attack on my building.

The VA and waiting three years for a disability answer.

New DMV regs. I must have 7,500 miles on my Indian to register it in California.

Wilmington Waterfront—I’m working with my community to support a waterfront when the Port of Los Angeles wants to take it away from us.

EPA and Motorcycling Freedom—mentioned above. If we don’t stop them soon we may be faced with motorcycle bans in cities.

Gun laws—Supporting the NRA to enhance gun training and education. We want a strong secure, trained and confident population, right.

And I’m trying to make a living and survive.

PIRELLI RIDER Matt Goerke Emerges Victorious in the Sand of Gopher Dunes
ROME, Ga.–
The fifth round of the 2016 CMRC Canadian Nationals was held this past Sunday on July 10 at the world-famous Gopher Dunes Raceway in Courtland, Ontario.

The track is notorious for its technical, deep sand, perhaps making it the most challenging track on the Canadian circuit for rider fitness and equipment. Defending MX1 Champion Matt Goerke, equipped with Pirelli’s SCOPRION™ MX32™ PRO hard front and MX Soft 410 rear tires, emerged victorious for his first win of the season aboard an OTSFF Yamaha.

“It’s a great feeling to get the monkey off of my back and take my first win of the season today here in Gopher Dunes,” said Matt Goerke. “I’m a huge fan of racing in the sand and the entire team nailed the bike setup. Forward momentum is crucial when racing on sandy soil, which my Pirelli MX32™ and MX Soft 410 tires did a great job of doing.”

After starting just inside of the top five during 450 Class Moto 1, Goerke rode like a man possessed, making several passes through the star-studded field in the opening laps. While hot on the rear fender of the race leader, he capitalized on a mistake to takeover the lead and pull away to victory.

OTSFF Yamaha teammate Brett Metcalfe, who used Pirelli’s MX32™ soft-mid front and MX Soft 410 rear tires, charged hard the entire moto and crossed the checkered flag in fourth. As the gate dropped for 450 Moto 2, Metcalfe and Goerke rounded the first corner running second and third, respectively.

Goerke quickly went to work and moved into the number one position, but he would suffer a crash and handover the lead to his teammate. The Australian Metcalfe never looked back and claimed his first moto win of the season. Despite a crash that shuffled him well outside of the top five, Goerke remounted to take an impressive third place in Moto 2.

The 450 Class overall victory went to Goerke, who scored his first win of the season via 1-3 moto scores, narrowly edging out his teammate Metcalfe in second overall (4-1). Pirelli riders finished in the top two positions and further proved the company’s commitment to racing on North American territory with their wide-range SCORPION™ MX tire lineup.

DISABLED RIDER NEEDS HELP–
I used to ride a bicycle every chance that I got. I am now disabled at 52 from a rare neurological disease called Pudendal Neuropathy.

It is essentially carpel tunnel in the pelvis. Some refer to this modern day torture as “bicycle syndrome.” Imagine falling off your bicycle seat and hitting the bar. That is a description of my pain 24/7.

Does your company ever custom bicycles for those of us who loved to ride but can no longer ride any bike sold in a store. My siblings and their spouses all ride Harley’s, Honda’s, etc.

That experience is no longer available to me either. Thank you for all that you do for those of us who still want to live and feel the open road.

RIDING WITH NORMAN REEDUS

This is a great program to record. Each episode Norman rides to new, out of the way and interesting places. You might have seen Norman on “The Walking Dead”. One Riding with Reedus episode was filmed in Vegas where he visited a builder and then headed for Death Valley with stops along the way including a super biker bar with lots of atmosphere, about 30 miles from Vegas.

He also made a stop at a desert racing school near Pahrump and got a few pointers. In another episode Norm visited Roland Sands Design in Long Beach. Roland actually let him borrow a bike to ride PCH. He also found lots of interesting places on the Appalachian Trail. On Direct TV it is on channel 254 AMC

UNCLE MONKEY ON THE DARK SIDE–

100 MPH head on straight into life. You live life to the fullest. Love em and leave em before they even know you were there. The bad ass MF that has no time for anyone or anything. There is money to be made, deals to be hustled, one step ahead of the law. But lately life has been slowing down.

Seems like you’ve had an old lady for an eternity now and for the last nine months you’ve been running for more ice cream and pickles then you even knew existed. But here you are sitting beside a hospital bed instead of sitting at the strip club. But you don’t seem to mind.

Once she squeezes out the kid life will be back to normal. But between the screams and hand crushing contractions you are in the room pleading her to breathe. You and your buddies have been caught on the losing end of beat downs.

You understand that words cannot explain the pain. It is written there on her face. Between the sweat matted hair and snarling words of hate she spits at you you find her more beautiful than the first time you saw her at the pool hall, more beautiful then when you finally sweet talked her onto the back of your chopper.

The doc says just a couple more pushes. You brace yourself as her hand squeezes down on yours. You wonder if this is what that lowlife Arnie hand felt like when you closed it in the vice to remind him that you get paid first, you get paid on time.

You match her breathing hoping that it will help your throbbing hand. A couple more quick breathes and she screams out one more time and it subsides. The fury of movement before you hear that first cry. You watch anxiously as they clean her up, wrap her up and pass her back to your old lady.

It is in her arms that she struggles to open her eyes for the first time. It is a lightning bolt through your body, through your soul. You reach out to push down the blanket just a bit and she grabs your finger. For the first time you know what baby soft is. For the first time you know there is more to life then what you’ve done with yours.

A shiver creeps down your spine as your mind flashes through all the girlfriend hearts you’ve broken. You pace the hall as they check the baby, as they clean mom up and move her to a different room. It is there as you watch through the nursery window that you vow that you will change your ways. That you can’t go to jail, can’t end up dead in a ditch somewhere.

You have to be there for that little girl. You have to play tea time. You’ll need to be there to watch that Disney winter movie over and over a thousand times. You vow that you’ll give her the world and protect her from the dark parts of it–the dark parts surrounding you until just a few moments ago.

There is no going back but it is not as simple as stepping over a line. It lies far away but you will get there one step at a time, first walking then running. You sit beside your old lady and kiss her softly on the forehead as your hold her soft hand once more.

You tell her that things will be different. Not a promise because that seems so feeble but genuine changes making all your lives better. The nurse brings her back to the room and after a few moments in mom’s arms she passes her to you. The first day of life for the both of you.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRAY IS OPEN ALL THE GODDAMN TIME–
“COMMON SENSE IS A FLOWER THAT DOESN’T GROW IN EVERYONES GARDEN”

I went over to the local Gun Shop to get a small 9 mm for home protection. When I was ready to pay for the gun and bullets, the cashier said, “Strip down, facing me.”

Making a mental note to complain to the NRA about the gun control wackos running amok, I did just as she had instructed. When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided, I found out she was referring to how I should place my credit card in the card reader! I’ve been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make their instructions a little clearer.

VETERANS CHARITY RIDE TO STURGIS–
Indian Motorcycle is a proud founding sponsor of Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis.

Each year, hand selected wounded and amputee veterans are chosen to experience the ride and heal with motorcycle therapy. Motorcycle therapy is getting the veterans outdoors, riding the open road with the wind in their face, getting much needed space that clears their head, and talking about their experiences while serving in the military so they can experience life and living again.

Deserving Veterans leave from Los Angeles and spend 9 days riding America’s most beautiful roads, getting to know each other and helping each other heal from the traumas experienced during war. The veterans also see how much their service means to America by stopping in small towns along the way to meet the grateful people of our nation who they helped protect.

The ride culminates by spending the week at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.

Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis 2016 will be riding for and supporting two worthy veterans charities: Veterans Charity Ride USA and Wyakin Warriors.

CAGELESS IN VEGAS II – Las Vegas BikeFest 2016

Las Vegas, Nevada has long been a destination for vacationers seeking all types of adventure, and the motorcycle crowd is certainly no exception. From the intrigue of the bright lights of Fremont Street to the scenic vistas and glory of the Grand Canyon, the city and surrounding areas offer something for everyone.

Las Vegas BikeFest Law Tigers Attorneys

Nevada boasts some truly breathtaking motorcycle rides, many of them winding through arid isolated mountain ranges soaring 7,000 to 10,000 feet above sea level. Rides like the Death Valley Run, the Valley of Fire Loop, and the Reno to Lake Tahoe Loop can soothe or thrill riders with everything from peaceful pastures, unusual rock formations, lake views, and exhilarating cliffs.

This Fall, the Las Vegas BikeFest will bring all the best of the Silver State into one enormous party. September 29 through October 2, motorcycle enthusiasts from all over will converge on Fremont Street for four action-packed days of contests, food, vendors and comradery that can only be enjoyed within the motorcycle community.

This year’s event boasts new and extended hours for Rally Central. That means more vendors, more food trucks, and non-stop entertainment. Nightly Rally parties will offer music on two stages and prizes and giveaways of over $30,000, including a $1,000 Rally Central Shopping Extravaganza and a brand new bike for one lucky attendee each day of the rally.

Registration for the event will begin on Thursday, September 29 at the Golden Nugget. When it opened in 1946, the Golden Nugget entranced visitors with its mahogany bars, crystal chandeliers and imported marble floors. The addition of opulent hotel rooms in the ‘70s made the Golden Nugget more than a gambler’s paradise. Today, with its conference areas, spa and salon, specialty restaurants, casino, and variety of guest rooms, the Golden Nugget has much to offer and is proud to serve as the host hotel for the 2016 Las Vegas BikeFest.

A free shuttle will transport registered participants from the Golden Nugget to Rally Central where they can stroll through rows of vendor booths or take a break from the dessert heat in one of the Cool Zones.

BONNEVILLE SALT UPDATE—
Well, things are looking pretty good. We are on a major trend for drying out the salt and it looks like there should be no trouble getting a couple of good courses. The report as of last week is that there is good amount of salt coverage but it is still too wet. Not a problem because we have a month-and-a-half.

The BLM has issued permits and we are ready to race.

On a side note it looks a little iffy for the earlier events trying to take place and especially ones with long distances and heavy Vehicles because it’s just too soft so they may not even go out there and leave us perfect conditions.

KINGPIN STRIKES IN STURGIS!–
Arlen Ness Recognized For Lifetime Achievement Honors

In keeping with the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum’s mission to honor those who have made a positive and significant impact on the sport and lifestyle, a special “Lifetime Achievement” award has been added to the Class of 2016 induction ceremonies.

Already a Sturgis Museum Hall of Fame member circa 1992, Arlen Ness was a unanimous choice to receive the first Lifetime Achievement honors.

“Arlen truly is the ‘Godfather’ of the custom bike movement,” says Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall Of Fame Executive Director Myrick Robbins. “No one has done more to influence the look of what a custom motorcycle is.” Victory Motorcycles also recognizes Arlen’s achievements and is honored to be part of the induction ceremonies this year.

“Victory Motorcycles has worked with Arlen Ness for many years now,” says Rod Krois, General Manager of Victory Motorcycles. “Early on the designers and he helped to create the now iconic Arlen Ness editions of several different models. Arlen has always been the head of his time, and we are proud to be the presenting sponsor at this important event.”

Inaugurated this year, The Lifetime Achievement award was established by the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame Board of Directors to honor those who have greatly contributed to the world of motorcycling and have been recognized by many of the leading motorcycle related organizations, their peers and the general riding community.

“There is no more recognizable and recognized figure than Arlen in the world of custom motorcycles,” adds Robbins. “Given their close working relationship, it is awesome that Victory Motorcycles has stepped up as the presenting sponsor!”

As innovative and influential as Ness has been to the motorcycle industry, the contributions he and his fellow Hamsters club members have made to local charities over the years, including Children’s Care Hospital & School Foundation and LifeScape Children’s Care of Rapid City, are equally important.

“The Sturgis Museum’s charter is two-fold, in addition to honoring individuals we want to pay tribute to the heritage of the Sturgis Rally,” Robbins explains. “Arlen and the Hamsters have made a lasting mark on the Sturgis Rally and the surrounding communities.” In the past 11 years, more than $2 million has been raised by the group.

Arlen Ness also established the process for how all future honorees will be determined: The board members, executive museum staff and special committees of the museum present nominations to the board members, it’s president and officers. Each nominee is then reviewed and voted on by the board of directors to come to a majority decision on who will become the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. “It is fitting that he will be the first recipient and epitomize what this honor really means.”

“Legend has it that Arlen really missed his calling as a pro bowler,” Robbins says. “It is true he used his earnings from bowling to buy his first motorcycle.” In 1967, Arlen found an old Knucklehead for sale for $300 and bought it with money he won bowling. He didn’t know how to ride, so a friend had to ride the bike home for him. In between riding lessons, Arlen stripped the bike down and began experimenting with his spray gun. Soon there was a growing list of people asking Arlen if he could do a nice paint job like that on their bikes.

In 1970, Arlen and his wife Beverly opened their first store. Arlen kept his day job and worked on bikes at night. One year later Arlen quit his day job and began concentrating on his passion for custom motorcycles… and create a dynasty. The Ness custom family now includes son Cory and Grandson Zach making them the only three generation family of custom builders.Bowling’s loss has become the motorcycle industry’s gain!

“Join Victory Motorcycles and the Sturgis Museum in honoring Arlen Ness and the entire Class of 2016,” says Robbins. The 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame 2016 Induction Breakfast will be August 10, 2016 at the Lodge at Deadwood in Deadwood, South Dakota. Breakfast tickets are available for a $35 donation, tables of eight for $300. Tickets are available by calling the Museum at 605.347.2001 or they can be purchased online at:
http://www.sturgismuseum.com/shop/hall-fame-breakfast.

LOWBROW CUSTOMS AWARDED Google Trusted Stores badge– Lowbrow Customs, which offers innovative custom motorcycle parts for Harley-Davidson, Triumph and other makes, was recently selected to join the Google Trusted Stores program.

To help shoppers identify online merchants that offer a great shopping experience, the Google Trusted Store badge is awarded to e-commerce sites that demonstrate a track record of on-time shipping and excellent customer service. When visiting the Lowbrow Customs website, shoppers will see a Google Trusted Store badge and can click on it for more information.

“We are very proud,” said Lowbrow Customs CEO, Tyler Malinky. “Getting awarded the Google Trusted Store badge is just confirmation that we are doing things right by our supporters, fulfilling our own aim in providing our customers with what we have deemed ‘World Famous Customer Service’. Anything less just isn’t good enough.”

As an added benefit, when a shopper makes a purchase at a Google Trusted Store, they have the option to select free purchase protection from Google. Then in the unlikely event of an issue with their purchase, they can request Google’s help, and Google will work with Lowbrow Customs and the customer to address the issue. ALL New Saxon Bikernet Reader Comment!–

I recently purchased a 2006 Crown with the 96in. It sat as new just about since new due to the owner passing away. I serviced it and replaced the dry rotten tires.

I notice the only problem with the bike its odometer doubles mileage, 1 mile for every half mile ridden. Who was a Saxon dealer in the NY area, or any dealer. I need someone I could even speak with to find out what I should do to fix it.

Keith Ball asked if I could be of help to you. I’m not sure I will be much… but here’s what I can offer.

I believe those bikes used a brain, speedo and speedo sensor manufactured by Thunder Heart http://www.thunder-heart.com/Home.html

If you can ID them and confirm that, I would start by contacting them as it may be a simple need to program the speed sensor ratio…

Good Luck,

THE ACTION NEVER STOPS AROUND HERE— Again this weekend is packed full of events. I need to hit my list of projects for tomorrow and Saturday. I may attend some event or just ride to the beach, and then again maybe not. Productive is the key, or die trying.

Have a helluva weekend and fill it full of Nirvana, because you can. Then pack for the run to Sturgis.

Ride free forever,
