Hey,
This is a striking week with the return of the Badlands run survivors and the H-D new model launch. Brothers are stunned and questioning.
In this area of Los Angeles, you rarely see Softails. They are dangerous due to the limited, lowered turning radius and wide frame width, but they have been that way since the beginning.
What you see roaming LA streets are Dynas and lots of them, even Sportsters. The brothers have shifted from bobbers and baggers to performance Dynas. Of course the Sons of Another Mother had a major impact.
Maybe this factory shift will continue to ultimately bring the FXR back. With a little ergonomic adjustments, the FXR could see a resurgence. Actually, all the touring models are built on the FXR platform since the rubbermounted shift. Let me know your thoughts.
I love the factory’s bent toward freedom and I hope it truly evolves into an honest freedom effort for all motorcyclists and the aftermarket. We need to support our brothers in this rapidly changing world.

VALERIE THOMPSON NEWS– World’s Fastest Female Motorcycle Racer to attempt third world speed record for Denis Manning led Team “7” Racing
Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials create worldwide film stage for Team “7” Racing and Valerie Thompson battling for World’s Fastest Motorcycle title
Valerie Thompson and American Motorcycle Association Hall Of Fame member Denis Manning return to the world’s fastest race course for the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials at the Salt Flats, August 26-31, on a mission to rewrite motorsports history by breaking the land speed record of 376.36 mph (605.69 km/h) with the famed Team “7” Streamliner (aka BUB 7).
Thompson stunned the racing world at last year’s trials with a speed of 304.263 mph (489.663 km/h) piloting the Manning designed “7” Streamliner on only her fifth run, becoming the first female rider over 300 mph and earning the Fastest Time of the Meet award.
The current record, set in 2010 by the Top 1 Ack Attack team, was formerly held twice by the Manning designed and built “BUB 7” Streamliner, setting the stage for an all out battle for the “world’s fastest motorcycle” title.
The quest for the title is being captured on film by P-51 Pictures and Executive Producer Dana Brown, creators of “Dust to Glory,” “On Any Sunday” and the award-winning “Out of Nothing” motorcycle racing documentary. P-51 crews have followed the teams for more than 12 months filming the land speed-racing documentary, “Rockets & Titans,” scheduled for worldwide theater distribution in 2018.
P-51 Pictures will utilize a crew of more than twenty technicians to film highlights of the speed trials both on and off the track. Asked if the movie related activity is a distraction, Thompson said, “Believe it or not, no. The film crew is very professional and easy to work with. More importantly, I’m delighted land speed racing will get a worldwide stage through this documentary. It’s excellent exposure for sponsors like TROON Inc., Vision Wheel, ilium Works, Wheels Through Time and who make it possible for us to chase our dreams.”
Thompson has seven land speed records on a variety of bikes ranging from Harley-Davidson’s to BMW’s and is a member of six-land speed racing 200 MPH Clubs. Breaking the current record would be her first in a streamliner.
“I set my first record at Bonneville in 2006 and fell in love with land speed racing where you can keep the throttle open and push the equipment to its ultimate limit. I’ve prepared for this moment since then, so I’m anxious to get back on the salt,” said Thompson. “With Denis Manning leading the best team I’ve ever worked with, I know the bike has the power. It all comes down to track conditions, weather and me hitting my marks,” stated a determined Thompson.
Manning started racing at Bonneville as a teenager, earning his first world speed record at age 24 as builder of Cal Rayborn’s 1970 entry, reaching a top speed of 265 mph. “I’ve pursued this dream with my family for over 40 years, a dream I hope to fulfill with Team “7” Racing and three generations of Manning’s,” said Manning. He added, “I’m confident we’ve properly prepared the vehicle, especially considering the expertise of Team “7” owners Jon Jans and Joe Harrelson who are ‘best in class’ machinist and builders. I know Valerie is more than ready. She dreams about Bonneville as much as I do.”
If seven is truly a lucky number, look for Thompson, Manning and Team “7” Racing celebrating a dream come true on the Salt Flats of Bonneville.
BIKER’S CHOICE AND Twin Power Introduces New Rear Chain Conversion Kits– Following the success of the Cush Drive Chain Conversion Kits introduced earlier this year, Twin Power is proud to introduce a new line of chain conversion kits for 1986 – 2000 FXR, 1986-2006 FLH, 1991 – 2005 Dyna, 1991 – 2005 Sportster, 2006 – 2017 Dyna, and 2007 – 2017 Softail models.
The new rear chain conversion kit from Twin Power.
“Changing from belt to chain drive is a must for high load, high horsepower and racing applications. Anyone who’s ever been stranded due to a broken belt knows this,” says James Simonelli, Twin Power Brand Manager. “These kits take the guesswork out of converting your bike from belt to chain drive and are designed for stock chassis and wheel applications. Kits duplicate the factory belt drive ratio, but additional sprockets are available to adjust for specific conditions.”
Kits include a 4140-heat-treated steel transmission sprocket, transmission sprocket spacer, fully machined (not stamped) heat-treated steel rear sprocket with a textured black powder-coated finish, dual bolt pattern sprocket spacer (where applicable), and grade 9 hardware (where applicable). Just add your favorite 530 x 120 link rear chain and cut to size.
“Drive chain is like religion and politics; everyone has their favorite,” says Simonelli. “We leave it up to the end user to pick their desired brand and type of which Biker’s Choice offers a wide assortment.”
All components are proudly Made in the USA.
The Twin Power Rear Chain Conversion Kits (P/Ns 217452 through 217454) retail starting at $219.00. The kit can be ordered through your local Tucker Rocky | Biker’s Choice dealer.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY– A man goes to see the Rabbi. “Rabbi, something terrible is happening and I have to talk to you about it.”
The Rabbi asked, “What’s wrong?”
The man replied, “My wife is going to poison me.”
The Rabbi, very surprised by this, asks, “How can that be?”
The man then pleads, “I’m telling you, I’m certain she’s going to poison me. What should I do?”
The Rabbi then offers, “Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I’ll see what I can find out and I’ll let you know.”
A week later the Rabbi calls the man and says, “I spoke to your wife on the phone for three hours. You want my advice?”
The man said, “Yes, please.”
“Take the poison.”

INCREDIBLE BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for August 17, 2017
Hi Soda Lee
The issue with many (not all) Confederate monuments is that they were installed in response to the civil rights movement of the 1960s as a form of intimidation rather than part of the Civil War. I don’t think the monuments should be destroyed but placed in more appropriate locations.
For example the Tennessee Stone Mountain monument should be preserved. It is impossible to be moved. The statues in Congress are part of the national narrative.
To put it in perspective when I flew into Frankfurt Germany I noticed that a large area was pox marked. When I asked about it I was told it was to remind the citizens of what they had done in WWII.

STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM NEWS– Between the standing room only Class of 2017 Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the Pappy Hoel Speed Classic races and the brand new block party with bands going live at five on the Glencoe Stage every day all sponsored by the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, the 77th Sturgis Rally was rocking for the entire rally week! Better weather and a full schedule of events helped bump up attendance to more than 376,000 people this year.
“Come for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum races, stay for the entertainment,” said Myrick Robbins, Executive Director for the Sturgis Museum & Hall Of Fame. Appropriately things kicked off at the very same historic dirt track where it all began back in 1938. Backed by Coca Cola and area grocery stores, the Pappy Hoel Speed Classic roared into the Meade County Fairgrounds in downtown Sturgis on August 3-5.
“We were twisting the throttle to the stops with the Speed Classic, the inaugural Block Party co-hosted by our friends from Monster Energy and the annual Hall Of Fame ceremonies,” said Robbins. “But that is what the Sturgis Rally is all about. Founder J.C. ‘Pappy’ Hoel started with a race and a week-long spectacle just sort of evolved from there.”
Also evolving was the Sturgis Block Party. For the first time this year, merchants on the newly revitalized Main Street teamed up with the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Monster Energy to host a week-long event right in the heart of downtown. “Motorcycles, music and more… it was rocking,” said Robbins.
However, the Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony presented by Strider Sports was definitely the highlight of the week. John Paul DeJoria, philanthropist co-founder of Paul Mitchell hair products and Patrón Spirits (as well a Hall of Famer himself) emceed the class of 2017 induction ceremony in his own inimitable style… he even passed along some business advice to everyone in the room.
“I’d like to give you a little secret to building something,” said the man who went from being homeless to becoming a billionaire. “However you participate, whether it is as a rider, builder, or any way you participate in this industry, make sure the quality of what you personally do or the quality of the product you produce or the quality of the words you say are the finest quality in the world.”
When DeJoria started Patrón in 1989 it was the quality that made the difference. “Quality reaps longevity. Quality continuously keeps something going… and it is the quality of these people that will keep the industry and the Museum going.”
The class of 2017 may have been the most influential and inspirational yet. From Lifetime Achievement honoree William G. Davidson to the Pappy Hoel Award winner Rod Woodruff, founder of The Buffalo Chip, the Lodge at Deadwood in Deadwood, South Dakota, was packed with the best and brightest in the motorcycle industry. Colleen Barnett-Taylor and Mike Taylor, Cory Ness, Mark Shadley, Jim Thiessen and Terry Vance comprised this year’s inductees.
“I get excited every year at Sturgis… I jump up and down a lot and I yell and scream and I blew out my voice, “said Lifetime Achievement honoree Willie G. after being introduced by his son and current director of the Harley Davidson Museum, Bill Davidson. “I would like to thank the Sturgis Hall of Fame for honoring me and I will always remember a day like today.”
Blown out voice or not, Willie rallied to conclude the ceremony shouting a message near and dear to all the honorees, past and present: “Ride free! Sturgis forever!”
To keep the quality up as suggested by John Paul DeJoria and to keep Sturgis forever as Willie G. called for, any and all donations are welcome. Donate through http://www.sturgismuseum.com/Contribute

FIVE RULES TO REMEMBER IN LIFE–
1. Money cannot buy happiness – but it’s far more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than on a bicycle.
2. Forgive your enemy – but remember the asshole’s name.
3. If you help someone when they’re in trouble – they will remember you when they’re in trouble again.
4. Alcohol does not solve any problems – but then, neither does milk.
AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE…
5. Many people are alive only because it’s illegal to shoot them.

FROM THE FXR GURU ON PERFORMANCE– Thanks for the feature on Bikernet:
http://www.bikernet.com/pages/HOT_STREET_RACING_FXR.aspx
Yeah, took many years for me to figure out the delicate balance between big performance and at the same time keeping the solid reliability demands on a daily basis for the street. Lots of failures along the way, but, hell, if you don’t keep trying, you will never know how far you can go…
As far as the motor, the bore is 4.375 with a 4.187 stroke.
The belief that you need long stroke to make torque is actually a myth. Cubic inches, cam profile, exhaust, and other factors dictate when, where and how much torque a motor makes-mostly cubes.
I think this theory was born when 20-30 or more years ago, when H-D case bore limitations (couldn’t bore out much due to the case bolt pattern and no big bore case options available at the time) dictated “stroking it”, and using longer rods to make more power, which did happen.
So, guys thought “I stroked it and my torque went up,” but in reality, the cubic inch increase created the additional power. In addition, heads were not really designed to make big HP like some are today so the HP may have gone up a little (as well as guys keeping the same smaller cam and smaller diameter pipe in the motor when they stroked it), but the torque really went up.
For example, I have owned a few different longer stroke 124s from S&S that in stock or mildly modified form, made about 140 ft lbs or so of torque. My current 126-inch, which I ran for years as a stock crate motor, before being upgraded a couple years ago, in its current form, made 150 ft lbs with mild 10.5 compression.
Guys who haven’t tested the bigger bore stuff simply couldn’t believe it.
So, apples to apples, a shorter profile cam (with matching smaller diameter pipe and other factors), will make more torque earlier but fade away earlier than a big cam, big pipe motor which come in later and stay later (provided the heads are good enough to make that power up top).
However, in a modified big bore, short stroke motor such as mine, with pro level heads, a cam that is correctly designed for the application, with more compression, along with a properly built, matching the motor exhaust, you can have the best of both worlds. A motor that makes big torque early (addition compression helps here), and carries out thru the rpm band, as the heads breathe allowing the cam to pull big HP up and across to red line.
Hope that makes sense!
Just some of my testing experience-

GUN NUT URGENT REPORT– This is our best chance to STOP the U.N. Gun Ban Treaty!
SIGN YOUR PETITION NOW!
You and I are now sitting on a ticking time bomb threatening to destroy our Second Amendment rights.
I’m talking about the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty – better named the Gun Ban Treaty – which Barack Obama not only signed, but also submitted to the U.S. Senate for ratification just 42 days before he left office.
Of course, Obama knew the treaty wouldn’t be ratified right away. But he also knew something else: By sending this treaty to the Senate now, any future gun-ban majority in the Senate – whether it be two years or 10 years from today – can move to ratify it in an instant.
And if that happens, gun-ban extremists at the U.N. and here in America will have a clear path to steamroll your Second Amendment rights, our national sovereignty, and our independent right to self-governance.
However, you and I now have a big opportunity to rip this Treaty to shreds and throw it back in the faces of the gun-banners at the U.N. But we must take action TODAY.
That’s why I’m asking you to sign this NRA-ILA Petition to the President immediately.
Your signed petition is a powerful and personal request to President Donald Trump…urging him to unsign the U.N. Gun Ban Treaty and put an end to this looming and dangerous threat once and for all.
Make no mistake: The anti-gun extremists behind this Treaty want every gun – every single gun worldwide – to be under U.N. control. That includes your rifle, your shotgun, your handgun, and even family heirlooms that have been handed down from generation to generation.
The Treaty would establish a permanent international gun control bureaucracy within the U.N. Office for Disarmament Affairs to oversee and influence gun policy in ALL NATIONS.
It opens the doors to restrictions that could forever stop foreign gun manufacturers from selling firearms to U.S. citizens.
It requires the U.S. to provide foreign countries and international gun-ban bureaucrats with the most sensitive, personal information about American gun owners like you.
Worse, it calls for the creation of an international gun registration system, paving the way for the full-blown confiscation of your firearms, just as we’ve seen happen in other nations around the world.
It couldn’t be clearer…the gun-banners at the U.N. don’t view law-abiding Americans like you and me any differently than they view Mexican drug lords or ISIS terrorists.
And their ultimate goal is to see every gun you own destroyed and thrown in a giant scrap heap just like we’ve seen in England, Australia, and around the globe.
SIGN YOUR PETITION NOW!
We need the President to unsign the Gun Ban Treaty and make it clear to every tyrant, dictator, and bureaucrat at the U.N. that our Right to Keep and Bear Arms is constitutionally guaranteed, sovereign, and non-negotiable. PERIOD!!!
The fact is, President Trump knows firsthand the tremendous impact NRA-ILA leaders like you had in last year’s election.
As he said just a few months ago at our Leadership Forum in Atlanta: “You came through for me and I am going to come through for you.”
Now is THE TIME for NRA-ILA supporters like you to sign your Petition, and ask the President to follow through on that promise.
Then, with the stroke of his pen, the President can unsign the U.N. Gun Ban Treaty and make sure this freedom-killing monstrosity NEVER threatens your individual right to own, purchase, and use firearms EVER AGAIN.
SIGN YOUR PETITION NOW!
And please, after you sign your Petition, I need you to make the most generous contribution you can to NRA-ILA today.
You and I both know the minute President Trump indicates his intention to unsign this treaty, all HELL will break loose.
The global gun-ban media will blanket the airwaves with outright lies about what the treaty does and doesn’t do.
Anti-gun extremists at the U.N. will move to punish America.
Gun-hating leaders in Europe will put enormous pressure on the President to “look the other way” and allow this ticking time bomb to sit in the Senate.
This will be a MASSIVE BATTLE and winning will require a big financial commitment from NRA-ILA. That’s why I need YOUR HELP today.
SIGN YOUR PETITION NOW!
There are other organizations that claim to be fighting back against the U.N. Gun Ban Treaty. But only NRA-ILA has been actively leading this fight since day one.
No other organization has monitored every treaty proposal to date and alerted gun owners like you to every new threat. No other organization has attended and monitored dozens of U.N. meetings around the world…representing YOU and fighting for YOUR rights.
And no other organization relies so heavily on the loyal support of members like you.
Our strength – every ounce of it – comes directly from you and your active involvement in every one of our critical petition campaigns.
And our campaigns don’t get more critical than this. So please, take just a couple of minutes today to sign your Petition to the President and make the most generous contribution you can to NRA-ILA.
For nearly 20 years, NRA-ILA supporters like you have toiled in the trenches to stop the U.N. Gun Ban Treaty from steamrolling our Bill of Rights.
Now is OUR BEST CHANCE to STOP it.
Thank you for your personal resolve and your unflinching willingness to defend this country and our freedom.
With your signed petition and strong support today, I know we can put an END to the U.N. Gun Ban Treaty and safeguard our Second Amendment freedom.

KEEP THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY WIDE OPEN– An elderly couple learned to send text messages on their mobile phones.
The wife, a retired college English instructor with emphasis on the Classics, was an unapologetic romantic; her husband, a retired salty Navy chief petty officer of thirty years’ service, was a no-nonsense guy.
One afternoon the wife went to the local Starbuck’s to meet a friend for coffee. While awaiting her friend’s arrival, she exercised her new skill by sending her husband a romantic text message: “If you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If you are eating, send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you.”
The husband responded: “I’m takin’ a shit. Please advise.”
Almost brings a tear to my eye.

BOOK OF THE WEEK CLUB– The Harley-Davidson Book
They are a two-wheeled symbol of freedom: no other motorcycle brand in the world has the nearly mystical reputation of a Harley-Davidson. For more than a hundred years, this American classic from Milwaukee has shaped the motorcycle world. The fascination centers on the typical 45-degree, V2 engine. Over time, single-cylinder engines have come and gone from the Harley lineup, but the two-cylinder engine has been the defining style. Like a sculpture, it sits deep in the intricate tubular steel frame—an aesthetic revelation…and an auditory one as well. Once you’ve heard the gruff babbling of an Early Shovel, you’re addicted for life!
This book—concept and design by Michael Köckritz, editor-in-chief of ramp magazine—is about the power and beauty of the engines and the elegance and strength of these machines from Lake Michigan. It is an homage to the flatheads, knuckleheads, panheads, ironheads, the shovels and Evolutions, and the modern-day fuel injectors. Gliding on the roads with such an inspired feeling that will surely carry from today into the future, The Harley-Davidson Book is a visual journey through a tradition deeply rooted in the spirit of freedom of the USA. What would Easy Rider be without its iconic heroes, “Billy Bike” and “Captain America,” the most famous motorcycles in the world? This free-wheeling attitude is conveyed in opulent, photo-rich stories and articles about the unique Harley-Davidson lifestyle. It’s a road movie you can experience yourself, vibrating like an old knucklehead in its rigid frame.
The authors are all passionate bikers who have been under the powerful twins’ spell since childhood. DIRK MANGARTZ has worked for decades for German and international magazines and was the editor-in-chief of Custombike for more than a decade. He is the author and co-author of various motorcycle books, has a huge archive, and is actively involved in the development of motorcycle accessories, primarily for Harley-Davidson. SVEN WEDEMEYER moves on the boundary between photography and journalism. His pieces make the culture of mobility tangible as he documents stories and personalities in authentic photographs.
This seasoned gearhead not only produces exciting work, he also brings his own custom bikes out on the road. PHILIPP WENTE, freelance photographer and editor at ramp, a magazine with a cult like following, was already zinging around his parents’ yard on his racing-orange Puky push bike (with the cool pennant on the front fender!) while still in diapers. Now he has custom bikes to ride: a Ducati Pantah and a H-D Early Shovel FLH. Unfortunately, they don’t have cool pennants, which he deeply regrets.
Because asphalt is not enough—experience the Harley-Davidson lifestyle close up, which will also take you on the beach, the ice, or on steep walls

NEWS FROM THE AMA— Michigan raised registration and training fees. The additional fees, 2 bucks per, will go to the motorcycle safety education program, while some fees will fund a new awareness program.
In Oregon the governor signed into law H.B. 2598, which extends the offense of vehicular assault to include contact with a motorcycle, motorcycle operator or motorcycle passenger.
In Pennsylvania the state’s House Consumer Affairs Committee approved a measure that would cover motorcycles under the Pennsylvania’s Automobile Lemon Law, and require manufacturers to correct any defect that impairs the use, value or safety of the vehicle and occurs within one year following delivery, or 12,000 miles.
States could lose control of self-driving testing. Bill would set federal standards for Self-Driving cars. The 45-page draft package of 14 bills would designate the U.S. National Highway Traffic /safety Administration as the lead agency for regulating self-driving cars, pre-empting state rules. –Reuters report.
UNCLE MONKEY ON STURGIS 77–
As the dust settles and the constant thunder of V-twins dies away Sturgis 2017 gets entered into the archives. For those who didn’t attend, it was a smaller year than normal.
Attendance swells and diminishes with the major anniversaries and with near all time highs of the 75th a couple of years ago Sturgis attendance didn’t bounce back from the hangover of last year. Official count is somewhere in the 375,000 range but that seems really high to me.
Don’t get me wrong – there were still lots of riders but considerably less than other years when the attendance was 400,000. Most vendors and park rangers put the attendance at or below last year’s numbers. Not that a couple hundred thousand bikers is a small crowd by any number there was no real hustle and bustle.
The Buffalo Chip where I usually stay is usually over run with million dollar motor homes and overwhelming numbers of tricked out side-by-sides and pimped out golf cart party barges but they were pretty much non-existent. The big venders definitely noticed the more conservative attitude in spending.
Sturgis still rolls on though I think I’ll refer to it as the Country Sturgis. Last fall I had decided Mrs Monkey and I would go horseback riding at Andy’s Trail Rides outside of Lead this year in the Black Hills so I was surprised to see that the Buffalo Chip and the Full Throttle Saloon both had bull riding.
Country acts and Southern Rock made up a good chunk of musical acts and cowboy hats were prevalent everywhere – not the usual rocker ones but full Stetson’s. Maybe the government is brain washing us but it almost had a Calgary Stampede feeling.
Going ahead it will be interesting to see what the future will hold for the Black Hills Rally. Will big money come back? Are bikers becoming cowboys? Will the big campgrounds continue to focus music towards an aging baby-boomer class that is riding less every year? Time can only tell.

BIKERNET BAD JOKES KEEP COMING– An elderly widower walks into an upscale cocktail lounge.
He is in his mid-eighties, very well-dressed, hair well-groomed,
great looking suit, flower in his lapel and smelling slightly of an

Seated at the bar is a classy looking lady in her mid-seventies.

IS THIS THE LAST GAS FOR CONFEDERATE MOTORCYCLES?
Confederate_fa_13_combat_bomber
Confederate Motorcycles recently unveiled an extremely limited-edition, 150-horsepower motorcycle costing $155,000, but even that news was trumped by a report that the company may abandon its entire business model, change its name and begin producing solely electric motorcycles.
An article by Charles Flemming in the Los Angeles Times quoted Confederate’s founder and CEO Matt Chambers as saying that the very limited-edition FA-13 Combat Bomber (13 to be built) would be the last gasoline-powered motorcycle released by the Alabama firm. Instead, the company will focus on creating a new electric bike with the help of Zero motorcycles.
The article also quoted Chambers as saying the company would change its name to Curtiss Motorcycles. In today’s politically charged climate, it doesn’t take much contemplation to figure out why the Confederate name may cost the company some sales.
When I reached out to Confederate for comment, they immediately clammed up. They told me that any information concerning the changes would be addressed in an official press release by Chambers in the coming weeks. Zero was equally as hushed, stating that there is no formal relationship between the two companies at this time.
If all of this turns out to be true, it would be one of the largest shifts in direction we’ve ever seen from a motorcycle manufacturer, completely abandoning the internal combustion engine in favor of electric power. However, Confederate’s current business plan is built around hand-built marvels that exemplify the excessive perception of brutality, via both power and style.
Just because the new machines won’t smell of burning gasoline and emit an raucous exhaust note, doesn’t mean they won’t be steeped in excess. According to Flemming’s article, the proposed new electric bike, called Hercules, will produce about 175 horsepower and 290 foot-pounds of torque. If you’re doing the math, that’s nearly double the amount of torque as the FA-13 Combat Bomber the company just released.
With so much happening in the world of electric vehicles, it’s possible to imagine this as a smart business move for the brand. There is only so much room at the top in the world of ultra-premium V-twin power cruisers and lately it has become a bit crowded, with brands such as Arch, Ronin, and Vanguard sharing the segment with Confederate. If Confederate does in fact make the jump to excessively premium electric motorcycles, they will pretty much have that market to themselves.
–Revzilla
Matt Chambers is underfunded for his grandiose versions of plagiarism. No one who can get or build bikes for the common mans budget are building them.
There seems to a glut of sizzle, but no steak. It’s all rebranding of the same stuff. The “improvements” made have not been a benefit to the motorcyclist. Overpriced fertilizer.

STURGIS LAUNCH AND SELL OUT —
RodeMaster Seats By Royal Riding Help Rally Goers Ride Farther!
Ride Farther, stop less! RodeMaster™ seats by Royal Riding debuted at the 77th edition of the Sturgis Rally, August 4-13, 2017. Located at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame’s bandstand, Royal Riding had a line of people waiting for them to open for business each morning.
“The launch of our RodeMaster™ seats by Royal Riding at Sturgis rocked!” says company President Rod Derifield. “We brought double the amount of inventory we thought we would sell and still completely sold out of our Tour™ model and almost sold out of both other models – our ConTour™ and DeTour™.”
Although Royal Riding has decades of experience with gel seat pads, Sturgis was the first time motorcycle seats with integrated gel have been made available. The ability to take the pain out of their ride immediately resonated with people, according to Derifield. “People instinctively understood our design and why RodeMaster™ seats by Royal Riding would provide a more comfortable ride. Every morning when we opened we had a line of bikes waiting for demo rides and every night we delayed closing to 9 pm so we could help everyone looking for more comfort before they headed home.”
“Just like Royal Riding’s seat pads, our exclusive viscoelastic gel inserts soak up vibration and eliminate shock without bottoming out,” said Lars Roulund, head product designer for Royal Riding. “That, combined with our contour-cushioning foam, top grain leather covers, fiberglass baseplates and powder-coated hardware, mean that our RodeMaster™ gel-integrated seats really do make it possible to Ride Farther.”
Royal Riding’s fusion of ergonomic designs and advanced gel technology means that riders can ride farther and ride longer with less pain… and do it in style as well. The ‘RodeMaster™ models are styled to meet three specific rider types:
Tour™ is designed specifically for the touring rider. It features an integrated rider and passenger gel to allow maximum comfort. It is among the widest seats available on the market for the true touring enthusiast, and comes with an optional backrest.
ConTour™ offers the comfort of the Tour™ seat, but does it with a sleeker style and lower profile. It also comes with an optional backrest.
DeTour™ is for the rider who prefers to cruise solo but sometimes meets a companion along the way. There is no gel insert in the pillion, but it does come with an optional backrest.
Although the RodeMaster™ seats were a sell-out in Sturgis we have inventory ready to ship from our California warehouse so you can still get them directly from Royal Riding.
If you missed the world premiere of RodeMaster™ seats by Royal Riding at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum during the Rally, you can still preview the entire range here:

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY STILL OPEN– A guy and his date were parked on a back road some distance from town, doing what guys and girls do on back roads some distance from town.
As things really started getting hot, the girl stopped the guy and said, “I really should have mentioned this earlier, but I’m actually a hooker and I charge $20 for sex.”
The guy reluctantly paid her, and they went on with their business. After they finished, the guy lit up a cigarette, sat back in the driver’s seat and stared out the window.
“Why aren’t we going anywhere?” asked the girl.
“Well, I should have mentioned this before, but I’m actually a taxi driver, and the fare back to town is $25.”

BATES FOOTWEAR Proud to Support Motorcycle Therapy for Veterans–
The 2017 Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis is in the books, and the lives of more than a dozen veterans have been forever changed on this ride of a lifetime. Bates Footwear, official footwear sponsor of the ride, is proud to support the event and supplied their American-made Freedom and Bomber motorcycle boots for the veterans and crew.
“We are so proud of the work that the Veterans Charity Ride is doing to help improve the lives of these men and women that have served our country,” said Julie McCauley, Bates Footwear Marketing Manager. “As a company that works so closely with the United States military, we couldn’t think of a better organization to partner with that the Veterans Charity Ride. We are thrilled to support them and the life-changing work they do.”
On July 28th, this year’s participants were greeted by supporters at a grand send-off at Los Angeles Fire Station #77 in Sun Valley, CA. From there the group rode the famous Angeles Crest Highway and made their way to the Nevada State Memorial outside Las Vegas. Next up the veterans enjoyed some world-class motorcycle riding through northern Arizona, Utah and Colorado. At each stop along the way, supporters were there to cheer on the veterans and thank them for their service.
“The energy of this year’s ride and program was enthusiastic and the camaraderie amongst the veterans, who were mostly strangers was quick to form and create a sense of unity that all the veterans experience in their military service.” says Veterans Charity Rider founder Dave Frey.
A hero’s welcome awaited the veterans as they made their grand entrance to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally with a ride down Main Street. The tributes continued as veteran Keith Helfrich was honored as the 2017 Bob Hanson Distinguished Service Award recipient.
On Sunday night, all of the participants were brought on stage at the famous Buffalo Chip and given recognition for their service by an applauding crowd. From there the veterans enjoyed the rest of their time at the rally, riding through the beautiful Black Hills and partaking in a marksmanship competition along the way.
The Ride to Sturgis is just one of the ways in which Veterans Charity Ride supports wounded and severely injured veterans from all branches of service. The non-profit organization uses motorcycle therapy and other life-changing programs to provide uplifting and healing experiences for these veterans, and Bates Footwear is proud to support their efforts. R.I.P: Lonnie James Isam, Jr– The world of antique motorcycling mourns the loss of one of their most beloved and respected personalities.
With his parents by his side, Lonnie Isam, Jr. quietly lost his long and hard-fought battle with cancer on August 20, 2017 at his home in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Born May 7, 1969 in Edmonds, Washington and raised as the only child of Lonnie Sr. and Marianne Isam, Lonnie grew up surrounded by antique machinery and was well versed in all things motorcycle at an early age. As a teenager he spent weekends scouring garage sales and swap meets with his best friend, then reselling their treasures to make spending money well before eBay, American Pickers or What’s in the Barn was ever thought of.
As a young man he traveled to Europe, worked with his father as a motorcycle wrangler on the movie set of Oliver Stone’s conspiracy film, JFK, and immersed himself in learning all he could about motorcycling’s past.
Respected as a leading authority on motorcycle history and restoration, Lonnie eventually opened his own motorcycle shop called Jurassic Racing in Sturgis, South Dakota, but it is the Motorcycle Cannonball Run that he will always be remembered for.
Known around the globe as the founder of the most difficult antique motorcycle endurance ride in the world, Lonnie started the famous Cannonball Run back in 2010, forever changing the landscape of antique motorcycling by encouraging owners to make their ancient machines roadworthy and hit the blacktop with fellow enthusiasts.
His original quest to just share a ride along America’s back roads with friends catapulted the wrenching visionary into the public eye as he managed to lead a different international group of adventurous riders in an epic excursion across the country three more times after the inaugural run. Participants have declared the runs as “life changing.” And while Lonnie Jr. was always happiest when sharing a lane with his friends, his role of promoter launched the quiet gear head into a spotlight he was ill prepared for.
He eschewed the limelight and shunned publicity. As far as he was concerned, the old bikes deserved to live out their lives as they were intended, being ridden, and that was all that was important. Lonnie Isam Jr. will forever be a part of motorcycling’s glorious history.
His birth mother, Joanne Marie Isam, preceded Lonnie Jr. in death. As per his request, there will be no services. Instead, it is suggested you take a ride through the country and recall a man who lived his life for his many friends and the sincere love of antique motorcycles.
