The master, Roger Goldhammer.

The second annual AMD ProShow in conjunction with the Custom Chrome Dealer show was held in Las Vegas the weekend of November 18th-20th, 2005. Billed as The World Championship of Custom Bike Building the event is sponsered by American Dealer Magazine (www.amdproshow.com) is a well-respected trade magazine published by Robin Bradley out of Great Britain that covers the V-Twin marketing scene worldwide. As the International Biker Correspondent for BIKERNET.COM , I met Robin Bradley in Sweden this past June while attending the Scandinavian finals in Norrtelje, Sweden and was asked to be one of the judges at the Vegas event.

164 World Class bikes were flown in from around the globe with entries from Australia, Japan, Sweden, Germany, The Czech Republic, Finland, Canada, The Netherlands and Italy as well as from 22 states here in the U.S.A.

The entries included celebrity bike builders from the U.S. such as Cyril Huze, Rick Fairless from Strokers Dallas, Paul Cox and Keino from Indian Larry Legacy, Jerry Covington, Jesse Rooke and the Neighborhood Kingpin Warren Lane. In addition to the “Freestyle Class” there were also four sub- categories including Best Modified Harley, Licensed Manufacturer and Metric Bike.

The judging duties were confined to the builders themselves, four representatives of major parts manufactures and four members of the International Press making a total of 94 judges to insure fairness.

The competition was fierce. With 164 bikes to go over with a fine toothed comb we thought we'd never be able to make a final decision.

Goldhammer9i

In the end, it came down to the final three bikes in the major Free Style Class. Taking First Place for the second year in a row was Canada's own Roger Goldammer of GOLDAMMER CYCLE WORKS in British Columbia (www.goldammercycle.com). A close second was America's Michael Prugh of INDEPENDENT CYCLE of Rapid City, SD (www.independentcycle.com) and rounding out the field in third place was Belgium's Freddy Krugger of KRUGGER MOTORCYCLES (www.krugger.net)

Goldhammer9o

First Place in the “Modified Harley” Class went hands down to Miami's Warren Lane of the Neighborhood King (www.theneighborhoodking.com).

Also taking honors in the “Licensed Manufacturer” class went to the father and son team of Steve Broyles and Steve Broyles II of Stevensons Cycle of Wade, Michigan (www.stevensonscycle.com).

Goldammers first place “TROUBLE” bike was truly a study in retro-styled minimalism. Built in the style of the early Board Track Racers of the 1920's

Goldhammer9k

The unique engine design and minimalist frame configuration blew us all out of the water. The 965 cu. inch single jug motor was built by Roger using the lower end of a Merch Evo motor and a single front top Twin Cam cylinder. The rear cylinder was plated over, as were some of the early Harley racing motors with a slight twist.

Goldhammer9p

The plate covering rear spigot hole is the bracket for the ROTREX Swedish made supercharger driven 2:1 off the crankshaft. The oil for the blower is located in the rear section of the frame. The main frame loop is the engine oil tank.

The entire bike is an exercise in minimalism while having all the necessities to make it road worthy and safe to ride.

Goldhammer4

The Supercharger made by ROTREX of Sweden for use in import sports cars was altered to fit. The blower impeller runs at 100,000 to 12,000 rpm.

Goldhammer9h

This engine design was truly innovative. We can only assume that, as with all great ideas, you'll be seeing more of this type of engine design on custom bikes in the future.

Goldhammer9g

Well done Roger, You finally showed me something that I've never seen done before and you did it with style and class.
