Hey,
This is damn interesting. Last night I sat with the Saddlemen team at their table during the 71st TrailBlazers Banquet. This banquet is devoted to recognizing historic racers who are alive, or no longer with us. It’s a lot about dirt bike racing, to Daytona road racing.
The last time I attended Jerry Branch was inducted into their Hall of Fame. This crowd is all about the up-standing community of racers since the beginning of motorcycling. It’s all about guys who devoted their lives to this industry. Many of the champions mentored younger racers. They owned dealerships, worked as performance tuners, or started aftermarket companies such as Motion Pro or IMS.
It was a very inspiring event and I will list the inductees later in the news. There were even a couple of old outlaws in the crowd, like me. Let’s hit the news.
DRIFT TRIKES ADDED TO THE SO16 FALDERAL–Award winning builder, Austin Andrella, of Austin Martin Originals in Akron, OH is heading up the Drift Trike competition for SO 16. Austin and Edge began the competition discussion at Willies Tropical Tattoo Chopper Show during Bikeweek and it seemed pretty obvious that a drift trike race is something we want to add.
Drift trikes are basically big wheels like we had as kids. However, these have engines because most of us don’t have the endless energy of a six year old. Sections of PVC plastic are slid over the tire and then the tires are inflated, which allows the bikes to slide through the corners on the hard plastic.
I think these things will be a blast to watch. The only concern we really had to address is we need keep the trikes in the big mini-bike race area. People cruising on golf carts or trikes (in the crowd area) pisses everyone off and I understand that.
We have a great group though and they will be respectful of that concern. I really think these things could have a future at the Smoke Out. It’s one more exciting, fun thing to watch. Win-win. We have all kinds of people at the Smoke Out that just love to use hacksaws and welders and this could be crazy.
We Are Going Racing!
Friday Night Trikes
The race is scheduled for Friday night at the same location as the mini bike races. The drift trikes will run before the mini-bikes. The initial requirements include:
1 speed transmission
1 gear
No shifts
Under 6.5 horsepower (not hopped up… safety)
Rear tires can range from 10″ slicks to 12″ enduro with either sch. 40 or sch. 80 ABS or PVC
Kill switch
Depending on the amount of people that get involved we will either run heats with three racers or fastest lap. It can get a lil’ hairy with any more riders on the track.
Check here for some useful stuff if you are thinking of building something. http://www.sfdindustries.com/products/Big-Wheels/
Front brakes are a must with the PVC on the rear tires and the inability to stop quickly
We are also going to drag race these things with no slicks.
For more details email Austin at austinandrella@yahoo.com or call him at 330-715-3764.
We have added so much to the event this year. We will have Costume Karaoke in the campgrounds. Roller Derby is back and I will get the details out on that. We have two videos from shops in the Pro Chop Off coming soon so stay tuned.

Good info. I love my TP Pro Series 121-inch, except I go through 3 to 4 regulators a year. I would greatly appreciate a solution to this problem. Perhaps, is there a heavy-duty regulator that doesn’t blow out the diodes so often?

You need to check or replace your alternator, and check all your grounds. Something is killing regulators. Probably has nothing to do with the engine.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–
A married couple in their early 60s are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in a quiet, romantic little restaurant.
Suddenly, a tiny yet beautiful fairy appeared on their table.
She said, ‘For being such an exemplary married couple and for being loving to each other for all this time, I will grant you each a wish.’
The wife answered, ‘Oh, I want to travel around the world with my darling husband.’
The fairy waved her magic wand and – poof! – two tickets for the Queen Mary II appeared in her hands.
The husband thought for a moment:
‘Well, this is all very romantic, but an opportunity like this will never come again. I’m sorry my love, but my wish is to have a wife 30 years younger than me.’
The wife, and the fairy, were deeply disappointed, but a wish is a wish!
So the fairy waved her magic wand and poof!…
The husband became 92 years old.
The moral of this story:
Men who are ungrateful bastards should
remember fairies are female…..

Can you tell me what settings to use with the S&S HI-4N ignition module in a S&S v111 with 585 cam I have it in a light FX STS 1990 Harley-Davidson.

I would start with the recommended settings chart towards the end of the HI-4N instruction sheet. Yes, it pays to read these things. So, run the “Race” curve with ADVANCE RATE = 2. That said, since it is a lighter bike he could probably try bumping the ADVANCE RATE up a couple clicks. If he starts hearing detonation, then he’ll have to turn it back down.
Can you dig it?

NORTH Carolina bill would license service shops, techs–
State Sen. Wyatt Tucker introduced Senate Bill 454 April 1. The bill would require licensing of general automotive repair and collision repair facilities in the state as well as estimators, service advisors, mechanical and collision repair technicians.
The bill would establish a seven-member North Carolina Board of Examiners for Motor Vehicle Repair Shops and Collision Repairs. Board members would hold three-year terms. Three would be nominated by the House, three by the Senate, and one consumer rep would be nominated by the governor.
Both the House and the Senate would be required to nominate a repair facility owner or operator, as well as the chief officer or executive director of a repair association to constitute two of their three nominees. The board would employ an executive director and staff as necessary to carry out the requirements of the licensing bill.
The board would be charged with establishing and enforcing licensing requirements for repair facilities, estimators and technicians. They would also receive and investigate complaints from the public.
To be licensed, the bill would require estimators and technicians to be required to be at least 18 years old, completed a board-recognized education program and pass an examination administered or approved by the board. The cost would be set by the board but shall not exceed $25 yearly.
Employee licenses would be valid for one year and proof of 8 hours of board-approved continuing education would be required for renewal.
To be licensed, the repair facility must provide a list of all its employees who perform repairs, meet minimum facility requirements that would be established by the board, submit to an inspection and pay a fee of $300 every two years.
The provision does provide for reciprocity of licenses for repair facilities, estimators and technicians from other states if the board determines the other state has substantially equal requirements in it licensing laws.
The bill would also prohibit insurance companies from negotiating or reimbursing repairs at unlicensed repair shops.

2015 marks the 5th year for HDR competing at the World Famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. We have set 2 AMA National records to date, and are very excited about returning again this coming August. Keino Keeps The Fires Alive
A few days ago, I had a REALLY long day at work. When I got home I immediately passed out on the couch. I dreamed I was fresh out of school, but I had no car. I needed to get around and I had the money for what I wanted.
As I went out for errands I saw a huge dealership, and THIS bike was on the display. Like this exact bike. It was so awesome, I bought it on the spot and rode it everywhere. I woke up not too long after, but I still can’t believe the bike exists.

NEW BDL Compensator– All the benefits half the weight–Designed as a torque buffer, the compensator sprocket is constantly operating under extreme stress and load conditions. This harsh environment requires the kind of exceptional strength and durability found in BDL’s 34 tooth Compensator sprocket, part number CS-34A. Not only does the solid steel BDL sprocket provide the high degree of capability noted, but it does it at half the weight of the stock.
A direct bolt-on replacement for the factory compensator found on 2007 and later Big Twins it provides substantially less reciprocating weight with associated benefits. Some other advantages include; works with spring or non-spring style stator rotors, no spokes, ramps or bearing to wear out, and no need to purchase a new stator rotor in order to fit the CS34A. BDL’s 34 tooth sprocket retails for $197.50 and can be found at Belt Drives Limited dealers worldwide or by visiting www.beltdrives.com
For EVO and Shovel owners, BDL offers the same benefits with models CS-24A1 & CS-25A1.Made in the USA.
NEW BIKE FEATURES COMING TO BIKERNET—Peter Linney has been on the hunt for classic choppers to feature on the long-lasting pages of Bikernet.
“These Sportsters belong to a couple who drive for UPS,” said Peter. “They have a shop at home where they build
their bikes, both of them, and both ride of course.. I would love to make a little
different story here, nice ride photos also.. OK?”
We blessed these Sportys and several other classics. You’ll see them monthly right here on Bikernet.—Bandit
I really love it. I like all the modifications you did on the bike, and also I love the way it looks as an sports bike (DUCATI/NINJA) but it also has the shape of a cruising bike (HARLEY). That’s good because the sitting position is way more comfortable, for longer rides, and it’s also good for short people like me heh heh. The sea isn’t to high, and I LIKE THAT ????

A REPORT FROM THE BIKERNET STEALTH AGENT–Went to a local bar last night, their first bike night. Just sitting around listening to the band, talking to friends, the usual things.
I always like to people watch and it is always interesting to over hear conversations.
I remembered how we used to sit around and talk about our bikes and what we had done them, what we added. We talked about carbs, what brand we ran, front ends, handlebars, paint jobs, what parts we were going to chrome.
Last night, I realized how much things have really changed, the conversations revolved around stereos, how many speakers to run, GPS systems, cell phone holders, cup holders, $500 headlights, how many glow lights do you run? I really don’t know what the purpose of these glow lights are except maybe to see who can drain their battery first? So what did I take from all of this?
Well, I am either getting old or it has all slid down hill to this level?
Mike (THE STEALTH)
INSPIRATION COMES—from all sorts of locations, folks, books, films, you name it. Last night was one of those experiences, while surrounded by champions and leaders in the industry.
Here’s is a quote from the beautiful Official Program, “We are a social organization of pioneering motorcycling enthusiasts.” Motorcycling is so different from almost any other industry. It’s all about fun and unlike so many industries, it’s not about money. It’s about racing, custom shit, and freedom.
Here are the inductees into the 2015 Trailblazers hall of Fame: Walt Axthelm, Ron Bishop, Chris Carter, Gary Conrad, Mel Dinesen, Neil Fergus, Rob Morrison and That Wolf. One gentlemen left motorcycle racing but at 84 years of age, he’s mountain bike racing. Amazing. And CH Wheat was awarded the Dick Hammer Award. Fantastic guy who owns IMS.
I’ll reach out to the Trailblazers and see if we can introduce you to the inductees.
