Hey,
This is going to be good. The Redhead of Redheads, Alison, is making a serious difference in my life. She returned after 25 years to pick up the pieces, which she does with aplomb, style, and panache.
So together we will attempt to survive in this wild world we live in. In fact, she’s anxious to go for a ride on the new Indian.
But here’s what we face next week. We hope to bring the effort with the City to some sort of resolution. I’m going to start to work on a story around this and a friend’s problems with the city, maybe two, for the Cantina. If I can make sense of it, it will blow your mind.
We are in the process of rebuilding Bikernet in a Word Press format. This will be a major effort, and I pray it gives us the capabilities we need to move Bikernet forward. Feel free to make suggestions for the redesign, or send me a link to a site you like.
We will do all we can to combat the EPA and any new regulations against an industry that has little or no impact on climate change. You’ll see another report here in the news.
We will make some mods to our new Indian, hopefully next week. Plus, we will install a brand new Motherwell luggage rack and Gary will take it for a long ride, and road test.
The list goes on and that’s just for this week. Let’s hit it.
DARWIN AWARDS CONTINUED– Semifinalist #3
A 22-year-old Reston, VA, man was found dead after he tried to use octopus straps to bungee jump off a 70-foot railroad trestle. Fairfax County police said Eric Barcia, a fast food worker, taped a bunch of these straps together, wrapped an end around one foot, anchored the other end to the trestle at Lake Accotink Park, jumped and hit the pavement.
Warren Carmichael, a police spokesman, said investigators think Barcia was alone because his car was found nearby. “The length of the cord that he had assembled was greater than the distance between the trestle and the ground,” Carmichael said.
Police say the apparent cause of death was “Major trauma.”
Semifinalist #4
A man in Alabama died from rattlesnake bites. It seems that he and a friend were playing a game of catch, using the rattlesnake as a ball. The friend – no doubt a future Darwin Awards candidate – was hospitalized.
Semifinalist #5
Employees in a medium-sized warehouse in west Texas noticed the smell of a gas leak. Sensibly, management evacuated the building extinguishing all potential sources of ignition; lights, power, etc.
After the building had been evacuated, two technicians from the gas company were dispatched. Upon entering the building, they found they had difficulty navigating in the dark. To their frustration, none of the lights worked. Witnesses later described the sight of one of the technicians reaching into his pocket and retrieving an object that resembled a cigarette lighter!
Upon operation of the lighter-like object, the gas in the warehouse exploded, sending pieces of it up to three miles away. Nothing was found of the technicians, but the lighter was virtually untouched by the explosion. The technician suspected of causing the blast had never been thought of as “bright” by his peers.
The winner of the 2015 Darwin Awards will be published next week in the Bikernet Weekly news, an amazing story.

VICTORY MOTORCYCLES SET TO SHATTER SOUND BARRIER WITH NEW MAGNUM X-1 STEALTH EDITION
The loudest Bagger in the industry returns in 2016 with a 200-watt 10-speaker audio system, 21” billet front wheel, custom stealth paint, LED lights and a new lower price.
Minneapolis — February 12, 2016 — Victory Motorcycles® announces the return of the Magnum® X-1 – the loudest Victory Bagger ever built, designed for serious music and motorcycle fans. As the 2015 model quickly sold out upon its introduction last year, the new 2016 Magnum X-1 Stealth Edition hits the scene powered by a 200-watt 10-speaker surround sound audio system.
Loaded with custom features such as billet wheels, a monochrome paint scheme featuring color-matched components and LED lighting, plus a MSRP that’s $1,000 lower than last year. Availability is limited, with dealers first getting the new model starting in February.
STEALTH GRAY PAINT. The Magnum X-1’s paint job reflects the latest trend with a Stealth Gray suede monochrome style featuring color-matched hinges, fender fillers, lower frame covers, dash, speaker grills and headlight bezel. This may be the only motorcycle on the market that attracts custom fans and concert groupies.
SOUND IS NO BARRIER. The Magnum X-1, our loudest bike ever, puts you center stage as you roll down the road. Trips are measured in both miles and decibels. Twist the throttle and plug into 200 watts blasting through two 6×9 woofers and two tweeters in the saddlebags, as well as two 5.25-inch mid-bass speakers, two 2.5-inch mid-ranges and two more tweeters in the front fairing. The audio system fully integrates into any Bluetooth capable device, and features an informational window for input and song selection.
WHEELS THAT AMPLIFY. Making a statement on any stage, the Magnum X-1 Stealth Edition features the largest front wheel offered by an OEM at 21 inches. The wheels are machined from a single block of aluminum to make them both lighter and stronger to maintain the handling capabilities that have become a hallmark for Victory Motorcycles.
LED CONCERT LIGHTING. Inspired by a rock and roll laser show, the Magnum X-1’s smoke tinted LED headlight is 74% brighter than Victory’s standard halogen bulb while the bike’s thin blade LED turn signals and flush LED tail lamp glow amongst the crowd.
AN ENCORE OF ACCESSORIES. With Victory® accessories, riders can customize their bike without ever missing a beat. The show just rolls on with a multitude of options to customize your set. Check out the full accessory line-up at VictoryMotorcycles.com
The 2016 Victory Magnum X-1 starts at $23,499 ($23,749 CA, $27,999 CND). Riders will have a chance to enjoy the Magnum X-1 at the first big party of the season during Daytona Beach Bike Week, where it will be one of the featured demo models in the company display. EXCLUSIVE AUSTRAILIAN REPORT— A Win from Down Under, it’s about time.
Prosecution of man charged under Aussie anti-biker laws dropped and $30,000 awarded.
Another prosecution in the Aussie state of Queensland under the states’ controversial anti-biker/association laws has collapsed, leading to a $30,000 costs order awarded to a man who faced up to two years’ jail for entering a mothballed motorcycle clubhouse.
Police withdrew charges against mine worker Glen Pitt after his lawyers, in a pre-trial hearing in the Brisbane magistrates court on Tuesday, alleged detectives had fabricated conversations with the accused Rebels motorcycle club member before he was charged 18 months ago.
Pitt’s lawyers also argued detectives had coerced and induced him into agreeing to a warrantless search by telling him they would stop him attending his daughter’s 21st birthday and that he faced only a fine for an offence bringing a minimum mandatory six months’ jail.
The case, which follows the withdrawal of charges in other high-profile prosecutions including of librarian Sally Kuether last year, marks more than two years without a single conviction under anti-association laws since their introduction in a government campaign against motorcycle groups in 2013.
A taskforce led by former judge Alan Wilson is due next month to deliver its review of these and other laws to a Palaszczuk government that has flagged repealing and replacing them. Police and the Liberal National party opposition, which introduced laws in government in 2013, have called for them to remain.
Pitt, 44, whom police alleged was a Rebels member, was found by officers in the yard of a disused Rebels clubhouse in Virginia, in Brisbane’s north, in July 2014 after he noticed tradesmen dismantling a shed.
The property was among 43 clubhouses declared off limits to bikers, who risk a mandatory six months’ jail by setting foot in them.
Pitt was charged with attending a prescribed place while a participant in a criminal organization.
Pitt’s barrister Ken Fleming argued in court on Tuesday that detectives had coerced the man into agreeing to a search of his home by telling him they could return with a warrant and he would then be prevented from attending his daughter’s 21st birthday party that evening.
Fleming argued a detective also induced Pitt by telling him he was facing a simple offence that would likely lead to a fine, where in fact a mandatory minimum six month jail term applied.
He told the court that police had made allegations about conversations – in which Pitt allegedly admitted to being a Rebels member and that the premises was a Rebels clubhouse – that could not have taken place.
After a short adjournment by magistrate Barry Cosgrove, police withdrew charges and Pitt obtained a $30,000 costs order against them.
Pitt’s solicitor Chris Main said after the hearing that cross-examination had revealed “some significant inconsistencies between statements sworn on oath by police officers and the evidence they gave on oath, which was considerably damning to the prosecution”.
“There were conversations alleged to have occurred between our client and police which we say did not occur and they could not have happened,” he said.
“We further say that some admissions that our client is alleged to have made did not and could not have happened.”
Dozens of charges under the anti-association laws – which also forbid bikers or “criminal organisation participants” from recruiting or gathering in public in groups of more than two – have been adjourned until after the outcome of the Wilson review.
They include the case of the Yandina Five, alleged Rebels members and associates, some of them relatives, who were charged after having dinner together at the Yandina pub north of Brisbane with their families.
Almost 50 people have been charged under the laws.
Main said his client had just returned to Brisbane from a stint working in mines when he noticed tradesmen dismantling the shed.
“He goes in to see what’s happening because he doesn’t know if it’s being robbed or what. Police show up and charge him,” he said.
MIKE PARTI PASSES– INDUCTED into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame: 2001
Successful sidecar racer in scrambles and Bonneville speed trials. Today, he is one of the most respected restorers of antique motorcycles.
Parti was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on June 23, 1935. His family moved to Los Angeles in 1945. The neighborhood that Parti grew up in was, in his own words, “very motorized,” so by the time he was teenager he was already getting his hands greasy in old motors.
At 15, Parti bought an old Ford jalopy. When his mother saw the car, she threatened to chain the tires together until Parti turned 16 and got his drivers license. Early on, he bought an old Indian Scout for $15, which Parti pointed out was the going rate for a bike that didn’t run in those days.
As he became an adult, Parti had a group of buddies who shared in his enthusiasm for cars and motorcycles and they all followed each other in one another’s interests. If one got into desert racing, they’d all get into it; if one got into scrambles, they’d all follow along. And, as Parti remembered, if one decided to hang out at a beer joint they all joined in.
A local Harley-Davidson mechanic, Harry Sorensen, who’d befriended Parti, was instrumental in getting him more involved in bikes.
“One day I was taking a radiator in to be fixed for the umpteenth time,” remembers Parti. “Harry told me that motorcycles didn’t have radiators and you didn’t have to crawl underneath to work on them and the girls were prettier. I became a motorcyclist on the spot.”
By the mid-1950s, Parti began racing scrambles on old Indians and Harleys. He finally tired of competing on old, worn-out bikes and broke down and bought a new bike – a Triumph Cub – and started racing the 200cc class. At one point, famous Speedway racer turned motorcycle dealer Wilbur Lamoreaux was a sponsor.
In the early 1960s, Parti became a sidecar enthusiast. He remembers riding his wife and baby daughter around in the sidecar.
“Ladies would pull up to the light and smile, thinking the sidecar was cute, and then they would turn to a look of horror after seeing the baby in my wife’s arms.”
Parti took to racing the sidecar rigs and found that his former sprint car racing experience translated well to the sidecars. During the mid 1960s, Parti held the AMA’s District 37 number one plate for sidecars for three straight years, earned in all forms of off-road racing – scrambles, enduro and desert racing. He rode the famous Greenhorn Enduro 11 times at the controls of a sidecar rig.
He passed yesterday in a Southern California hospital of naturals causes. He was one of the masters.

SEMA works to prevent proposed EPA prohibition of road-to-racecar conversions
Tuesday, 09 February 2016
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a regulation to prohibit conversion of vehicles originally designed for on-road use into racecars. The regulation would also make the sale of certain products for use on such vehicles illegal. The proposed regulation was contained within a non-related proposed regulation entitled “Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles – Phase 2.”
The regulation would impact all vehicle types, including the sportscars, sedans and hatchbacks commonly converted strictly for use at the track. While the Clean Air Act prohibits certain modifications to motor vehicles, it is clear that vehicles built or modified for racing, and not used on the streets, are not the “motor vehicles” that Congress intended to regulate.
“This proposed regulation represents overreaching by the agency, runs contrary to the law and defies decades of racing activity where EPA has acknowledged and allowed conversion of vehicles,” said SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting. “Congress did not intend the original Clean Air Act to extend to vehicles modified for racing and has re-enforced that intent on more than one occasion.”
SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) submitted comments in opposition to the regulation and met with the EPA to confirm the agency’s intentions. The EPA indicated that the regulation would prohibit conversion of vehicles into racecars and make the sale of certain emissions-related parts for use on converted vehicles illegal. Working with other affected organizations, including those representing legions of professional and hobbyist racers and fans, SEMA will continue to oppose the regulation through the administrative process and will seek congressional support and judicial intervention as necessary.
The EPA has indicated it expects to publish final regulations by July 2016.

EPA: Race cars have always required factory emissions equipment; SEMA: shenanigans
Daniel Strohl on Feb 11th, 2016 at 8am
Hemmings Daily
Conclusion from Mike Colburn
Proposed regulation is entitled: Greenhouse Gas and Emission Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles — Part 2.
Read that again. Greenhouse Gas and Emission Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles — Part 2.
What does this have to do with the conversion of vehicles designed for on-road use to race cars, or the sale and distribution of aftermarket performance parts?
EPA spokeswoman Laura Allen says: “People may use EPA-certified motor vehicles for competition, but to protect the public’s health from air pollution, the Clean Air Act has — since its inception — specifically prohibited tampering with or defeating the emission control systems on those vehicles. The proposed regulation… does not change this long-standing law or approach.”
She also argued that this proposed regulation clarifies the distinction between “non-road vehicles” like dirt bikes, snowmobiles that the Clean Air Act does not prohibit modifications to, and “certified motor vehicles” like cars, trucks and on-road motorcycles that fall under the Clear Air Act.
If true:
EPA says it was done this way “we were concerned that readers might mistakenly believe that the Clean Air Act’s explicit exclusion of vehicles ‘used solely for competition’ from EPA’s non-road regulations also applies for certified motor vehicles. It does not. This is true for all motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines, including both light-duty and heavy-duty.” Yet this amendment was buried within a 629-page proposal aimed at medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
Why did Ms. Allen’s statement about protecting the public from air pollution subtly and deftly equate the small subset of race cars and modified vehicles with the broader set of all vehicles? By conflating these two ideas, the suggestion is made that race cars and vehicles modified by their owners are a major source of pollution. They are not.
If the EPA is concerned that the average citizen is using aftermarket parts to defeat the emission control devices mandated, where is the proof that this is a significant problem? The agency gives no proof, yet — again according to Allen — “EPA uses its limited federal resources on cases that have a large impact on protecting public health.”
Read that statement again. “EPA uses its limited federal resources on cases that have a large impact on protecting public health.” In one sentence the spokeswoman is saying the EPA’s funds are limited — in 2013 the budget was $8.44 billion — suggesting it could use more money, and this is followed by an unsubstantiated claim that race cars and modified vehicles are a major source of pollution — without providing any proof!
Why is this happening:
The aftermarket parts business is a multi-billion/year business.
The potential fines are $37,500 for anyone illegally tampering with emission control devices, including those who manufacture and sell the parts.
They are a neutered organization, stymied by lobbyists at every turn. They have to exercise their power somehow, so they focus on those they believe they can bully.

QUICK, OPEN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–
This 80-year-old woman was arrested for shop lifting. When she went before the judge in Cincinnati he asked her, “What did you steal?”
She replied, “A can of peaches.”
The judge then asked her why she had stolen the can of peaches, and she replied that she was hungry. The judge then asked her how many peaches were in the can.
She replied, “6”.
The judge said, “Then I will give you 6 days in jail.”
Before the judge could conclude the trial, the woman’s husband spoke up and asked the judge if he could say something.
The judge said, “What is it?”
The husband said, “She also stole a can of peas.”

THE BIKERNET CERTIFIED PHILOSOPHER RETURNS FROM THE MOUNTAIN– The Past Has no Precedent over the Present
If this statement is true, then why do we hold on to the past and in many cases repeat the same situation over and over again. One of my teachers Arlene Bump used to say “same song, a different verse, a little bit louder, a little bit worse”.
The definition of insanity is keep doing what you are doing and expect a change. How much power to we give to the past on a daily basis, how often have we said to ourselves when will I learn. Each day we face enough new challenges, so we don’t need to drag the ones from yesterday along.
Lori Deschene founder of the Tiny Buddha wrote, “We replay past mistakes over and over again in our head, allowing feelings of shame and regret to shape our actions in the present. We cling to frustration and worry about the future, as if the act of fixation somehow gives us power. We hold stress in our minds and bodies, potentially creating serious health issues, and accept that state of tension as the norm.”
Her words made me think! I Know that it is time to Live fully in the present. To Know that the past is done and no longer need to give it any power in my life. I can move on and celebrate all the lessons I have learned and no longer need to repeat them. I can now thank the past for I would not be the person I am today for not for the past experiences good and bad. I now know to Let Go and move on
Today’s Affirmation: Today is brand new, a new start to Live my Life fully in the present. In this very moment I Know that All is Perfect, Whole and Complete in every part of My World. I release the shackles of the past that have held me back from living My Truth.
I Pause and close my eyes and go into that place within myself where All is Good.
As I release the past, I Live fully in the Present. Here I Know that abundant Good flows to me and All I Love. I am now open to the influx of Joy, Love, Wisdom and Guidance on this path of Living totally in the moment.
I am so Grateful for this Truth, My Truth
And So It Is

TRAVEL REPORT FROM DOWN UNDER–
Kia ora from “Down Under”. I just spoke to your mom, Alma last week and told her I recently went to the South Island in New Zealand and was in Invercargill where Burt Munroe lived. I went to the museum there and got to sit in the “motorbike” surround used in the movie. “The Fastest Indian.”
Unfortunately I could not see the original motorbike, which is housed in another museum (it was closed at the time). I also went to Oreti Beach where Burt practiced his speed trials, and it is the place where his son is involved in the annual bikerfiding races along it. I remember you and I talking about Bonneville Flats and the speed record one of your bikes made in Bonneville, ridden by a woman.
You’re mom also told me you’re full of shit and not to pay any attention to you.
I am attaching a few pictures from the museum and the trip for you to enjoy.
