WHAT IF BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS FOR NOVEMBER 17, 2016

Hey,

What if we could prove that global warming is a hoax, the climate is changing as it has for millions of years, but the man-made aspect is not the end-all. What if we could prove Oil isn’t the Bad Guy. What if a few grubby bikers, an old attorney and some young environmentalists could blow a hole in the EPA, control freak, anti-freedom mentality. What if they could improve the planet in the process, as they restore freedom where it belongs?

More and more our findings will prove this contention in a massive way. We’re working on it as we speak with Tony Sanfelipo and Michael Hupy. Hang on.

In the meantime, the Bikernet Weekly news is sponsored in part by the crew at Choppertown, Cycle Source Magazine, Iron Trader News, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation and the staff of Born To Ride.

NEW FROM BELT DRIVES LIMITED–
Upgrade to a TC and keep your early Belt Drive

Belt Drives LTD. recently announced they have developed an easily installed steel insert which allows you to run a newer Twin Cam engine with your current or older belt drive system.

This insert is internally broached to match the 24 spline sprocket shaft of the newer 2007 -UP Twin Cam engine. A NOTE FROM THE BIKERNET GLOBAL EFFORT INVESTIGATOR–
I’m finishing up a project here at work, but I already have done a little research and found some interesting things, like how the EPA is in bed with some global harmonization efforts, and non-compliance by oil refineries, power plants and other industries could be under the jurisdiction of the UN with regard to enforcement. More later as I dig deeper into this conspiracy.

AMA Pro Flat-Track Rookie’s Class of ’79 and Friends Newsletter

Each week we’ll be bringing you an update written by Dominic Colindres on his recovery status. He’s fighting hard to recover from his injuries. The medical care will be ongoing for the foreseeable future, and that being said he’s going to need continued financial help. If you can please help here: http://bit.ly/2bzjS9s

Week 1 Update:
This past week was definitely one of my better ones. It’s seems like I’m finally getting over my latest infection. These infections cause me a whole bunch of pain and force me to be bed ridden. After slowly feeling better during the week, I finally tried sitting up on the side of the bed. I pushed myself up perfectly fine and even transferred into my wheelchair where I sat for a bit. Hopefully these infections stop happening so I can leave this nursing facility and go home to start more out patient rehab.

NTSB 2017/2018 MOST WANTED LIST–
A bit of good news to pass along – this week the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released the 2017-2018 edition of its “Most Wanted” list of needed safety improvements in the transportation sector. Motorcycles were NOT included on this list.

You’ll recall that in the past “Motorcycle Safety” was named on a number of the NTSB “Most Wanted” lists which are released every year with calls for helmet use to mitigate the trend of motorcycle crashes.

This year, motorcycles were not mentioned though happily, calls to eliminate distracted driving were included on the list.

I’ve attached the 2017-2018 brochure if you wish to wish to review the list in its entirety or pass along to your members.

HOUSTON WOMAN ACCUSED OF LETTING TIGERS ROAM HOUSE WITH TEENAGE DAUGHTER– Charlie the Bengal Tiger was reportedly teased to make for a better show, but David Styles got more than he bargained for when the 120kg beast attacked.

© Image Broker/Rex Features

A Texas mother who allegedly scammed a California man out of an exotic kitten is facing felony charges after police say she endangered her 14-year-old daughter by letting pet tigers and monkeys – as well as a cougar, fox and skunk – roam freely through the family’s Houston home.

The catty chaos kicked off in August, when Trisha Meyer, 34, promised to sell an exotic Savannah kitten to a California man for $3,000, according to documents filed in Harris County court.

More than five days after the cat-loving Californian wired the first $1,500 to a bank account belonging to Meyer’s daughter Serena, the would-be kitten owner was disappointed to discover that his meowing package had still not arrived.

The Golden State man sent along the other $1,500 – to the same bank account – but after initially telling him the kitten was sick, Meyer eventually stopped answering her phone, documents allege.

About a month later, an officer with the HPD Major Offenders Animal Cruelty Squad showed up with a Texas Game Warden at Meyer’s door.

They were greeted by the sight of three tiger cubs and a skunk roaming through the living room, bedroom, kitchen and front door entrance – while Meyer’s 14-year-old daughter petted the exotic beasts.

In addition to the trio of cute cubs, Meyer had a large male tiger – and she admitted to officers that, at their ages, the animals could be dangerous.

Meyer also has “several monkeys,” including some that she admitted are “vicious” and one that attacks people.

She told police she usually lets her animals – which also include a cougar, fox and skunk – wander freely through the home and only locks up the tigers when she leaves.

“It should be noted that the defendant homeschools her children,” according to the court documents.

Now, the Houston mother is facing felony charges for theft and endangering a child.
Attempts to reach Meyer Sunday were not successful.

LEON RUSSELL’S WIFE RELEASES STATEMENT ON PASSING OF ROCK AND ROLL LEGEND

Leon Russell, born Claude Russell Bridges, who sang, wrote and produced some of rock ‘n’ roll’s top records, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13 at the age of 74.

Leon’s wife, Jan Bridges, released the following statement:

“We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this very, very difficult time. My husband passed in his sleep in our Nashville home. He was recovering from heart surgery in July and looked forward to getting back on the road in January. We appreciate everyone’s love and support.”

Leon’s last performance was July 10 in Nashville.

Known as “The Master Of Space And Time,” Leon was a legendary musician and songwriter who performed his gospel-infused southern boogie piano rock, blues, and country music for more than 50 years.

Leon, born in Lawton, Okla., began as a nightclub piano player in Oklahoma at the age of 14, also backing touring artists when they came to town. Jerry Lee Lewis was so impressed with Leon that he hired him and his band for two years of tours.

He wrote Joe Cocker’s “Delta Lady” and in 1969 put together Cocker’s “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” tour, which spawned a documentary film and a hit double album.

As a musician, primarily a pianist, he played on The Beach Boys’ “California Girls” and Jan and Dean’s “Surf City.” Leon also played guitar and bass.

Leon has also toured with Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, Edgar Winter, The New Grass Revival, Willie Nelson, Sir Elton John and performed with George Harrison and Friends at the Concert For Bangladesh.

Leon produced and played on recording sessions for Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Ike and Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones and many others.

He recorded hit songs himself like “Tight Rope” and “Lady Blue” and participated in “The Concert for Bangladesh.” John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison played on his first album, Leon Russell.

His concerts often ended with a rousing version of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” In 1973, Billboard listed Leon as the top concert attraction in the world. About this time, he was the headline act on billings that included Elton John and at other times Willie Nelson.

BIKERS HELP SPRINGSTEEN, STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD–FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) — Coming across Bruce Springsteen on a broken down motorcycle on the side of the road could probably be a lyric from one of his songs, but it really happened for a group of guys from New Jersey.

A group from the Freehold American Legion was riding after a Veterans Day event Friday when Dan Barkalow says he saw a stranded motorcyclist up ahead near Allaire State Park in Wall Township.

“Bikers gotta stick together,” Barkalow said. “I stopped to see if he needed help, and it was Bruce.”

THE CHALLENGE OF RIDING VINTAGE BIKES–
I followed the Motorcycle Cannonball run online and via some of my friends who participated. The bikes for this year’s event were limited to 100 years old so 1916 was the latest year bike you could run.

Anyone riding these Jurassic-era bikes has a special place in my heart as it is no easy feat either mechanically or in human endurance. It’s a true test for man/woman and machine.

I rode my 1945 Chief to Palm Desert, CA (about 75 miles from Kiwi HQ) the afternoon before the final leg of the Cannonball into Carlsbad, CA and had the pleasure of listening to riders’ stories up to that point.

Wow! Much respect to every one of them. They endured extremely tough riding conditions through rain, fog, mountains (with limited power on the up-hills and sketchy brakes for the down-hills), heavy traffic, etc.

Riders had to be self-contained and able to do their own repairs (other riders can help) with no outside assistance from their crews.

For me to ride along on my 1945 Coast Guard Chief, well that just felt like cheating as it’s such a late model bike and much better built than those early dinosaurs.
My hat is off to a very special gentleman, Steve Rinker of West Virginia. Steve built from scratch three complete 1916 PowerPlus bikes for himself and his twin sons, Jared and Justin. Steve also built a fourth engine for Doug Wolthke, which went into a PowerPlus race bike chassis.

To put things in perspective, Steve built three bikes and four engines all of which made it across the finish line after about 3300 miles without any major issues. Much respect to Steve Rinker; he’s a real Cannonball winner in my mind.

In early October Carolyn and I attended the Barber Vintage Festival in Birmingham, AL in conjunction with representing Lucas Oil. The Barber Vintage Festival is an awesome three-day event with classic motorcycle racing, camping, swap area, fan zone, museum and more. It’s a first class event from the grounds-keeping on up. It was a great opportunity for us to meet and greet our customers and enjoy Southern hospitality.

Ride on.

YOUR MASSACHUSETTS MOTORCYCLE ASSOCIATION–
is saddened to report the passing of a founding member, Robert L. Doiron this past summer.

Bob Doiron receiving a citation from your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association
for his efforts in creating the “Check Twice – Save a Life, Motorcycles are Everywhere” Campaign

Bob Doiron was the original Chairman of the Modified Motorcycle Association of Massachusetts, founded in 1975. During his tenure, Bob created the slogan, “Check Twice – Save a Life, Motorcycles are Everywhere!” – a mantra that was repeated for 3 decades and seen around the Commonwealth on yellow lawn signs, banners, and bumper stickers.

Born July 29, 1937, Bob grew up in Somerville, MA before joining the US Air Force. He saw the early days of the Motorcyclists Rights Movement in the US and was instrumental in chartering the Modified Motorcycle Association chapter in Massachusetts, but also instrumental in that organization’s support of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation in Washington, DC.

Eventually moving to Moultonborough, NH, Bob remained a supporter of the Modified Motorcycle Association of Massachusetts, even after its merger with the ABATE of Massachusetts in 2002 to become the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association. Justifiably proud of his contributions and the direction of our movement, Bob passed away peacefully on July 25, 2016, just 4 days shy of his 79th birthday.

Massachusetts Motorcycle Association Chairman Dave Condon commented, “Although we only occasionally spoke with Bob in his later years, we always knew his spirit was with us. Many of our current and past Board Members remained close to Bob and he always wanted to keep current with the organization. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob’s family and friends – he will be sorely missed, and we will be ever grateful for his efforts to found what’s become one of the premier Motorcyclists Rights Organizations in our great Country.”

Your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association is remembering Bob through the issuance of a Memorial Patch and the creation of a Safety Award in his name, which will be issued beginning in 2017.

LOUD PIPES SAVES LIVES ACCORDING TO THE US DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION–
http://newatlas.com/quiet-car-ev-safety-
standard/46428/

Electric and hybrid vehicles are quiet … too quiet, according to the US Department
of Transportation. Although the unobtrusive thrum of an EV in motion could be
thought of as a positive thing, the Department’s National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a new safety standard that will
Require newly-manufactured hybrid and electric vehicles to emit artificial warning
Sounds to alert pedestrians to their presence.

The new rule is the product of the Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act 2010, and the
process of defining the specifics has been caught up in the bureaucratic process
for years. Now that it’s official, the new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
No. 141 will help prevent around 2,400 pedestrian injuries per year, according to
the NHTSA.

The European Commission and the UN are both already considering similar regulations.

Applying to all hybrid and electric light-duty vehicles with four wheels and a
gross weight of 10,000 lb (4,536 kg) or less, the new standard states that these
vehicles will be required to emit an audible noise while running, both forwards
and in reverse, below 18.6 mph (30 km/h).

Any faster than that, and noise from the wind and wheels are apparently loud enough to alert any nearby pedestrians or cyclists to the vehicle’s presence.

“We all depend on our senses to alert us to possible danger,” says Anthony Foxx,
US Transportation Secretary. “With more, quieter hybrid and electrical cars on the
road, the ability for all pedestrians to hear as well as see the cars becomes an
important factor of reducing the risk of possible crashes and improving
safety.”

September 1, 2018 is the first deadline, when at least half of newly-manufactured
hybrid and electric vehicles must be fitted with these systems. After that, manufacturers will have exactly one year to ensure that their entire fleets
meet the requirements.

QUICK, New Bikernet BANDIT’S CANTINA Reader Comment!–

Post-Election Sunday Post for November 13, 2016

Sorry about your Mom, hospice was a good alternative for my dad.

I was wondering about Easyriders Long Beach show, it is not on their schedule?

Another great read.

Hey, the Easyriders Long Beach Show is also dead. In fact, the Progressive Show schedule has been cut from 12 shows to 7 for this season. Times are hard in some respects and bullshit in others. But quick, see below… –Bandit

QUICK, WE NEED POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS FROM LOUISE HAY–

The most important time during your day is the very moment you wake up. That moment when your conscious thoughts start pouring in and you start mentally planning or thinking about your day. Many times we’ll let the stress of what we have to do cloud our minds. The thoughts we have in the very beginning of our day set the tone for the rest of the day. Have you ever started your morning thinking you have so much to do and you’ll never get it done? Or do you feel rushed and everything is just going wrong?

My question to you next is ‘what were you thinking when you woke up?’ Were you thinking about how much you dislike your job? Were you angry with someone? When we wake up with negative thoughts, we attract those types of situations in our lives. Every morning when I wake up, I thank my bed for another great night of sleep. I begin to show gratitude for the smallest things in my home. I thank my body and health for letting me enjoy another beautiful sunrise.

Showing gratitude can set a positive tone for your day. I promise you, your day will start off much more pleasant. While you do your morning tasks – brushing your teeth, taking a shower, getting dressed, checking your email, etc. – begin to take notice of the thoughts flowing through your mind.

Are they positive? Are you appreciating the small things in your life? Begin to be aware of this, and if these thoughts are negative, restate them it in a positive way. For example, I have nothing to wear and all my clothes are not stylish can be I love my closet. It is so easy for me to get dressed. It is as simple as that.

Let’s start with paying attention to how you leave the house. What do you think or say as you open the door to go out? What do you say when you close it? What do you say when you’re walking to your car? Are you approaching your day with excitement and enthusiasm or worry and stress? Most of us will start thinking about whether we put everything away and if we turned everything off. Then as we get into the car we think about all the things we have to do and the traffic that we will have to sit in to get to work. Any time a negative thought comes to mind, say out loud a positive affirmation until you feel at ease.

Your life is precious, dears ones. I hope you enjoy every moment of it because you deserve it.

Let’s affirm: Life loves me, and I love life. I now choose to take in life fully and freely.

Love,

–Louise Hay

CRYSTAL GAYLE INVITED TO JOIN GRAND OLE OPRY–
Formal Opry Induction to Take Place January 21, 2017

Grammy-winning songstress Crystal Gayle was surprised during her Grand Ole Opry performance this evening by Opry member Carrie Underwood with an invitation to become an official Opry member.

Gayle will be formally inducted into the Opry on Jan. 21, 2017 by her sister, Opry legend Loretta Lynn. Gayle made her Opry debut nearly 50 years ago on the Ryman Auditorium stage, singing the country classic “Ribbon of Darkness” at age 16.

Underwood surprised the sold-out Opry at the Ryman crowd by joining Gayle on the smash hit “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” Seconds after finishing the duet, Underwood turned to Gayle and said, “You are an inspiration to so many of us. You are important to country music, and you are important to the Opry, which is why I was asked tonight to ask you if you would like to join our Opry family officially.”

Accepting her friend’s invitation with a hug, Gayle said, “I have always felt like I was a member of the family and this is just so special.”

“For more than half of the Opry’s 91 years, Crystal Gayle has been lending her signature vocals to Opry shows and connecting with Opry audiences as well as with everyone backstage,” said Opry Vice President and General Manager Pete Fisher. “She is family, and we are very excited that she’ll become an official Opry member early next year.”

Tickets for Gayle’s Opry induction night and all upcoming Opry performances are available at opry.com.

To plan an Opry visit, call (800) SEE-OPRY or visit opry.com. The Opry presents the best in country music live every week from Nashville, Tenn. Marking more than nine decades of entertainment, the Opry can be heard at opry.com and wsmonline.com, Opry and WSM mobile apps, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and its flagship home, 650 AM-WSM. The Grand Ole Opry is owned by Ryman Hospitality Properties (NYSE: RHP). For more information, visit opry.com.

KNIEVEL JUMPS AGAIN–
Partakers of extreme sports are getting a side of nostalgia with their main course these days, due to a hefty serving of re-focusing on late Evel Knievel, the world’s best known, most outrageous daredevil. Known to current extreme athletes only as a legend or a tale told by a mentor or father, Knievel’s brash, hard edged style is one for edgy players to emulate. But for anyone who wants to know the man behind the legend, opportunity is right around the corner.

Get a first hand look at the most comprehensive and authentic collection of Evel Knievel memorabilia in the world at a new Evel Knievel Museum opening in the spring of 2017.

Mike Patterson, third-generation owner of Historic Harley-Davidson in Topeka, KS has partnered with Lathan McKay and Marilyn Stemp, owners of the Evel Knievel Collection, to create a space for would-be daredevils to learn more about the real EK first hand.

In addition to the completely restored “Big Red” Mack truck rig Evel traveled in, expect to see EK’s leathers, helmets, motorcycles, personal effects and much more – all authentic articles once owned and used by Knievel himself. Yes, the Snake River SkyCycle is there, too!

Highlights of the new museum will be interactive displays featuring Knievel’s multitude of broken bones and a 4-D jump experience for visitors to try.

Stay tuned as the grand opening approaches and find more at www.irontradernews.com and facebook.com/Evel-Knievel-Enterprises.

UNCLE MONKEY RIDES HOME–

The air is a little crisper inside the garage then outside. You place the steaming coffee on the workbench and swing open the overhead door and push the bike closer to the sun.

You wind the cables up on the welder pushing it back to the corner as the local news talk radio tells you how the Governor screwed it up again. You wonder why you voted for the asshole in the first place. The hammer and heavy drift back to the bottom drawer, the 9/16 and 1/2 back to the top drawer. You remember the coffee. Still warm. A gasket back onto the wall, a parts box back onto the shelf. The phone in your breast pocket vibrates. Billy is running late but will be there quickly followed by Dom saying that Billy would be late but he’s grabbing donuts.

The sun glints off the Shovelhead’s chrome. You wipe it down with your good towel. Fluids and air are good. Damn signal light bulb still burnt out. You grab a Phillips and a bulb. Dom tears up the drive grabbing just enough of the FXR brake to haul it to a stop inches away – donuts from the box bungeed to the rack littering the driveway.

Dom places fingers to the lips of the Easyriders centerfold above the compressor as you pick the only non jelly-filled donut. Billy wanted to head south but forfeited the notion by not being there on time.

Dom wants to head out along the ridgeline but concedes to the open spaces. Billy rolls in with a Shadow close behind. Dom bellys about old ladies and their place. You smile and offer her a warm hug. It’s been a while since Billy had one. She’s cleaned him up a bit, put a little spring in his step.

Old Blue pisses on Dom’s bike before inspecting the back yard. Rodger wheels in his usual ten minutes late. For having the newest machine he can reliably be late. Billy’s old lady joins yours in the house. She won’t be coming along but wanted to get some advise from your old lady. Rodger busies himself finding the perfect play list on his phone.

The Shovelhead protests but finally gives way. An hour to breakfast. You pull on a sweater before your hoodie and jacket. You can shed it later. The heavier gloves, bandana blocks your face. You check the Shovel. Just a couple more minutes until she’s ready. About three hours between until dinner. Five hours on the long way back. No BBQ tonight just the old lady and you curled up on the sofa.
