WILD PLAYOFFS SUNDAY POST

Hey,

I’m scrambling after our goals for 2012. I want to have both Mudflap Girl bikes running this month and off the lifts. Plus, we are scrambling to kick our Bonneville effort off the ground.

I can’t tell you how much this small group of race nuts appreciate every sponsor. Hopefully, next week you will witness some amazing changes to the Bikernet family, plus we will launch the Bonneville effort for 2012.

Okay, I know it’s PlayOff Sunday. Let’s hit the news:

BILL MAYS ROAMING REPORT–I made it to Phoenix on my dyna yesterday. It was about 40 degrees in Boulder City with a north wind but it was at my back all the way and by Wickenburg it was about 65.

I am going to visit my friend Greg Alexander at Tucson Tattoo tomorrow. He is a transplanted Okie that has been in Tucson about 15 years. I will send some pics of his art. I will head back to Vegas by thursday and make the auction.

HERE’S HOW FRANCE REPLENISHES THEIR EMPTY ECONOMY– New for 2012:
Scary stuff… radars mounted on unmarked cars, driving all day on the freeway. They scan, record and photograph speeding cars and motorcycles in front, beside, and even in incoming lanes. These sneaky things have been tested in 6 counties for 6 months, and have generated 800 tickets per month per county. Ka-ching!

Also, radars are placed on overpasses, recording a car, then identifying the same car again a few miles away. You get a ticket if your average speed exceeds what’s allowed!!!!

Unlike in L.A., France is actually making money with traffic light cameras, and plans to install 750 additional units this year.

In this video report, French people don’t feel any safer; instead they lose points on their license for the smallest infraction, and many end up driving with a suspended license. Also, what do you do when you have to drag ass on the freeway at 55mph all day? Why not fiddle with your iPhone and text your buddies instead of paying attention?

BONNEVILLE 2013 TEASER–You’re puttin’ the pressure on me. Did you say 2013 record attempt? What I don’t want is for photos to come out before I get done. I’m sure we’ll work this out.

Your answers are 26″ wide at the windshild/cockpit area. It’s 26″ high at the base of the winshield (highest point), 100″ long tip to tip. The rear is shaped like an Auburn Speedster, so the back tip is longer than the base by approx 12″.

If I understood you properly, the trike has 2 wheels in front. If this requires fenders, the ones I’ve made facing backward are round in the front then flowing to points in the rear – more or less like a belly tanker.

You’re fuckin’ nuts!

WOMAN WITH TWO VAGINAS APPEARS ON TV’S THIS MORNING– A WOMAN told yesterday how a one-in-a-million medical condition led to her being born with TWO fully-formed vaginas. Hazel Jones, 27, said it means she has lost her virginity TWICE.

But she added she was so at ease with her body that she goes to sex clubs with her husband.

First, Hazel told TV1’s This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield she was 18 before being diagnosed with uterus didelphys.

It occurs when a barrier between two tubes that form the uterus fails to break down during development, leaving two internal channels.

URAL MOTORCYCLES expands dealer network, increases sales in 2011–In 2011 Ural Motorcycles saw its unit sales increase by 39 percent in 2011 and welcomed 22 new dealers into its existing network, the company reports.

The last year also saw the 70-year-old Russian builder of sidecar motorcycles highlighted in a New York Times feature, a Solo sT collaboration with bike builder James Hammarhead, being chosen for the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog, and seeing both Brad Pitt and Ewan McGregor add Urals to their garages.

The company also watched the year-end release of the M70 anniversary-edition sell out in less than two weeks.

So why is a 70-year-old Russian company — one that still builds its motorcycles just east of Ural Mountains — experiencing such success in an otherwise quiet market?

“Sidecar motorcycles are ideal for a wide range for applications, from adventure riding to daily commuting,” says Ilya Khait, Ural CEO. “Being the only sidecar manufacturer in the world, Ural has experienced an increased demand from all age groups. Mature riders are interested in sidecars because of the added stability, and the unique opportunity to share the ride with their family members. The younger urban crowd is also getting into sidecars in their search for practical transportation and their desire for something unique — an experience and identity — they can associate with their own lifestyle.”

With infrastructure paramount for a fast-growing company, Ural is carefully expanding across all fronts. To service an increasing customer base, standout 2011 new dealers – Leo’s South, Kissell Motorsports, Santa Fe Motorsports, Philadelphia Cycle Center, San Diego BMW, Motorcycles of Charlotte and others — will be joined by an additional 25 to 30 dealers in 2012.

Meanwhile, Ural’s North American operation, located in Redmond, Wash., is moving to a larger facility to accommodate offices, parts and logistics departments. Additionally, Ural is pleased to announce the appointment of Chuck Schram, former dealer developer for Piaggio, to the position of director of dealer development, and Jon Bekefy — previously employed by Ducati and LeoVince — to the position of director of strategic marketing communications.

With new Urals, special projects, dealers and websites on the way, 2012 promises to continue the excitement and success of 2011 — and then some. For more information, visit www.imz-ural.com and join us at www.facebook.com/UralMotorcycles. For all inquiries, please email jon@imz-ural.com.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY WEEKEND HISTORY LESSON–Did you know the saying “God willing and the Creeks don’t rise” was in reference to the Creek Indians and not a body of water? It was written by Benjamin Hawkins in the late 18th century. He was a politician and Indian diplomat. While in the south, Hawkins was requested by the President of the U.S. to return to Washington . In his response, he was said to write, “God willing and the Creeks don’t rise.” Because he capitalized the word “Creeks” it is deduced that he was referring to the Creek Indian tribe and not a body of water.

ANTIQUE MOTORCYCLE FOUNDATION TO OPEN JAPANESE MOTORCYCLE EXHIBIT AT MOTORCYCLEPEDIA IN 2012–
In September 2012, the Antique Motorcycle Foundation, Inc. will open an exhibit entitled “Kaizen: The Influence of the Japanese Motorcycle” at the Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh, New York. It will be the first exhibit dedicated solely to Japanese motorcycle history to be assembled at a major American motorcycle museum.

The Japanese word “Kaizen” means “beneficial change,” but in post-war Japan industry it had a larger meaning. “Kaizen” was also used to describe a philosophy of work and manufacturing that became the key to the product quality and innovative designs that enabled Japanese brands to penetrate, then quickly dominate international markets with products built to a higher standard.

Under the principles of Kaizen, every worker was encouraged to identify small changes that would reduce waste in a war-torn nation where essential resources were so hard to come by. It was soon realized that the by-products of the relentless drive to reduce waste and cost were improved quality and efficiency. Many of the manufacturing methods developed by the Japanese became components of a worldwide manufacturing revolution that became known as “Total Quality Management,” but only after the Japanese proved by dominating markets that they had learned a better way.

The practice of Kaizen not only enabled the Japanese to become dominant in the American motorcycle market, but it resulted in “beneficial change” to the motorcycle industry as a whole when the market became larger, reached a broader range of customers, generated more profit, and improved the public opinion of motorcycling in America. Consequently, Kaizen, the exhibit, will be more than an exhibit to celebrate the beauty and technology of Japanese motorcycles. It will also celebrate a philosophy that altered and benefited the worldwide motorcycle industry.

Kaizen is scheduled to open in mid-September 2012 and will run through August 2014. It will contain upwards of 50 motorcycles, plus artifacts, posters, and advertisements of the period from the late 1950s through 1980. At present, the curatorial team is networking among collectors to locate the motorcycles that will be selected for the exhibit. While both restored and original-paint motorcycles will be chosen, in all cases very high appearance standards will be adhered to. While the exhibit will run for two years, in some cases one-year loans will be accepted. For more information about the Kaizen Exhibit, contact one of its curators: Roger Smith (rsmith481@yahoo.com or Ed Youngblood (Ed@Motohistory.net

SHOW OF FORCE IN AUSTRALIA– Three members of the notorious Gypsy Joker motorcycle club were charged with drug driving yesterday as police intensified surveillance of the club amid suspicions they were planning to expand their presence in Queensland. Police intercepted the bikies at a road block during the gang’s annual National Run. A fourth gang member was charged with public nuisance.

Side roads were blocked and police officers directed traffic at intersections to allow gang members to ride between their Everton Park clubhouse and the Crown Hotel in Dayboro, before stopping them for roadside breath testing on their return.

Dozens of marked and unmarked police cars, 4WDs and motorbikes surrounded the group of about 80 bikies during the ride but denied their presence was an “escort”.

Dayboro locals came out of their homes and businesses to watch the convoy amidst rumours members of rival gang the Rebels were expected.
One woman who did not wish to be named said she expected the Rebels to arrive because it was “their territory”. “If they did come there would be a massive fight,” she said.

The Crown Hotel publican, who also did not wish to be named, said the bikies were just like any other customers but she understood the need for a police presence. “If the Rebels or some other gang decided to come here it wouldn’t have been over the top,” she said. “Looking back it was over the top – but you just never know what’s going to happen.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Gayle Hogan from State Crime Operations said the police presence was necessary to maintain public safety. “When there is a group we feel could intimidate the public we do use this form of policing,” she said. “The Queensland public expects us to keep them safe and the QPS will monitor and take whatever action is necessary to ensure the public does not feel intimidated.”

But residents who watched the convoy said the pub was well-known as a popular venue for large groups of motorcycle riders taking the scenic road between Mt Nebo and Mt Mee. “It’s not so much the bikies that are spinning me out, it’s the police presence,” said Bec Martin from Craig Doyle Real Estate. Local Mark Parfitt agreed the police presence was over the top. “They’re only blokes on bikes having a beer,” he said. “The police presence is sometimes only antagonistic.”

BIKERNET INVESTIGATOR TOURS HISTORIC BUCHANAN’S SPOKE AND WHEEL–I toured Buchanan’s Spoke & Wheel last Thursday working on a Road Iron story, what a great family the Buchanan’s are. Here’s a shot of Jim Buchanan truing a pre-war WL front wheel.

In 1968 when Cliff Vaughs built the original Captain America, and Billy bike it was Buchanan’s that raked the neck, 1-inch, equaling 45-degress. That was the kick in Captain America’s neck. Back in those days it was called Buchanan’s Frame Shop, and a receipt from there was enough to beat a modified equipment ticket in court.

Here’s Buchanan’s frame table as it appears today, this thing is responsible for one hell of a lot of choppers hitting the streets… Hey, that’d be a good name for a motorcycle magazine to launch in 1969 — Road Chopper, Street Raker, naw screw it, let’s just wait for an iconic biker movie to come out and knock-off its title. Easy Riderz, or some such fuck. Z endings are cool, huh?

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER MENU STUDY– Healthy Ways to Eat Pasta Quality carbohydrates are an essential part of a balanced, healthful diet. If pasta is your go-to carb, there are ways to take advantage of this low-cost food to make it even healthier:

* Choose organic pasta, rice noodles, bean thread noodles and noodles such as Japanese udon and soba, which are part whole wheat and buckwheat.

* Cook pasta only until it is al dente (barely tender). When it is cooked this way, it achieves a lower glycemic index than fully cooked past because the pulverized grain comes apart slowly in the stomach. (Low-glycemic-load carbohydrates should be the bulk of your carbohydrate intake to help minimize rapid rises in blood glucose levels.)

* Skip the creamy sauces – they can provide unhealthy fats and more calories than traditional tomato-based sauces.

* Aim for two to three servings per week (one serving is equal to about 1/2 cup cooked pasta, which is far less than the amount Americans typically eat).

And don’t forget that pasta is the perfect complement to vegetables – you can toss in almost any lightly steamed vegetable for additional nutrients and antioxidants.

WEEKEND MOTORCYCLE QUOTE–
“It still pleases me to be awake during the dark, early hours before morning when everyone else is still asleep. I’ve been that way since I first moved to New York. I do my best thinking and writing then. During those early years in New York, I often got on my motorcycle in the middle of the night and went for a ride–anyplace.

There wasn’t much crime in the city then, and if you owned a motorcycle, you left it outside your apartment and in the morning it was still there. It was wonderful on summer nights to cruise around the city at one, two, or three A.M. wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a girl on the seat behind me. If I didn’t start out with one, I’d find one.”

–Marlon Brando

Before he became famous, Brando cruised the streets of NYC on his bike, and in the coming decades, whenever his fame started to feel oppressive, he’d get on his motorcyle and simply head out into the Southwest, riding through the desert for miles on end.

In the iconic film, The Wild One, Brando rode a 1950 Triumph 6T Thunderbird.

FIRST NDAA; Now Enemy Expatriation Act–
On the heels of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), otherwise known as the “Indefinite Detention Act,” comes another draconian bill designed to give the federal government the power to turn American citizens into enemies of the state for virtually any
reason it deems necessary. Stephen D. Foster, Jr. has the story:

“Congress is considering HR 3166 and S. 1698 also known as the Enemy Expatriation Act, sponsored by Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Charles Dent (R-PA). This bill would give the US government the power to strip Americans of their citizenship without being convicted of being ‘hostile’ against the United States. In other words, you can be stripped of your nationality for ‘engaging in, or purposefully and materially supporting, hostilities against the United States.’ Legally, the term ‘hostilities’ means any conflict subject to the laws of war but considering the fact that the War on Terror is a little ambiguous and encompassing, any action could be labeled as supporting terrorism.”

Foster goes on to say, “I hope I’m wrong, but it sounds to me like this is a loophole for indefinitely detaining Americans. Once again, you just have to be accused of supporting hostilities which could be defined any way the government sees fit. Then the government can strip your citizenship and apply the indefinite detention section of the NDAA without the benefit of a trial.”

1928 CAR REPAIR MAILER.
AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR ADVERTISEMENT IN 1928… SENT ON A PENNY POSTCARD–
1914 Model T Ford Station Wagon.
May 31, 1927, the last Ford Model T rolled off the assembly line. It was the first affordable
automobile, due in part to the assembly line process developed by Henry Ford. It had a
2.9-liter, 20-horsepower engine and could travel at speeds up to 45 miles per hour. It had
a 10-gallon fuel tank and could run on kerosene, petrol, or ethanol, but it couldn’t drive uphill if the tank was low, because there was no fuel pump; people got around this design flaw by driving up hills in reverse. Ford believed that “the man who will use his skill and constructive imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed.” The Model T cost $850 in 1909, and as efficiency in production increased, the price dropped. By 1927, you could get a Model T for $290.

“I will build a car for the great multitude,” said Ford. “It will be large enough for the family,
but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best
materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering
can devise. But it will be low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to
own one – and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God’s great open
spaces.”

BOLT SUMMIT 2012– Bikers Of Lesser Tolerance held their first summit of 2012 in Las Vegas Nevada on January 6th 7th and 8th.
B.O.L.T. is the “NO COMPROMISE” biker rights collective. They oppose discrimination against bikers and other motorcyclist. Known primarily for opposition to government mandated helmet laws, they lawfully fight discrimination on all fronts, including legislative buildings, courtrooms and the streets. Membership is limited to proven freedom fighters and activists who become know to the organization as a result of their actions, using a nomination and acceptance process.

Unlike some of the other motorcycle rights organizations you can not join by paying a fee. Do not get me wrong some of these other organizations do a very good job and out of them come some people that are more dedicated and better prepared much like the special military teams our country has. Everyone who is involved in fighting for their rights is very important some just have more experience and better suited for the job that B.O.L.T. is looking to accomplish.

Many of the people who belong to B.O.L.T. also belong to one or more of the other organizations fighting for motorcycle rights.

Members from all over the country attended and numerous issues were discussed. Motorcycle-Only Roadblocks was a high priority as was mandatory helmet laws.

LONG BEACH Police Target Motorcyclists In Safety Sweep--Officers will focus on areas of Long Beach with a high number of traffic accidents.

By Nancy Wride December 10, 2011

Police will be on the lookout for moving violations by motorcyclists as well as illegal equipment. California Motorcyclist Safety Program Photos (1) Photos Credit California Motorcyclist Safety Program Add your photos It’s maybe no coincidence, with the International Motorcycle Shows tour in town this weekend, but the Long Beach Police Department will conduct a citywide safety check geared toward motorcylists today.

LBPD says that its officers will focus on regions in Long Beach where frequent collisions involving motorcycle riders occur. They’ll be looking out for violations involving helmets and other equipment, the department says, and for those driving while impaired and committing other moving violations. (Drivers of automobiles are warned that they’ll be subject to scrutiny, as well.)

NEW BIKERNET NEIGHBOR MOVES IN ACROSS THE STREET–This is my neighbor:
She’s single…

She lives right across the street.

I can see her house from my living room.

I watched as she got home from work this evening. I was surprised when she walked across the street and up my driveway.

She knocked on my door…

I rushed to open it.

She looks at me, and says, “I just got home, and I am so horny! I have this strong urge to have a good time, get drunk, and make love all night long!

Are you busy tonight?”

I immediately replied, “Nope, I’m free… I have no plans at all!”

Then she said, “Good! In that case, could you watch my dog?”

So hang on. Never a dull moment around Bikernet.
