Hey,
We’re headed to the Yaffe Birthday Party in Morongo Casino tomorrow. More and more it’s a major fight just to get out of LA, but Jim Betlach, from the V-Twin Expo said the same about Minnesota.
We have made some serious steps toward an anti-EPA regs strategy and more info flies at us daily. You’d think we would learn from the past, from our mistakes. Hell, look at the world news. Has anyone learned from the past. The Planet is a mess, bombs fly everywhere and we want to pass laws against smokers and loud pipes. What the hell?
KLOCK WERKS RELEASES ULTRA LOW FLARE FOR 2014+ HARLEY FLHT MODELS– The story of the Flare Windshield is featured in the recently released award-winning documentary, “Klocked: Women With Horsepower”. The Flare was created because of a need for stability and downforce on the Bonneville Salt Flats when Laura Klock raced the World’s Fastest Bagger, Klock Werks Discovery Channel Biker Build-Off winning bike.
The discussion for an improved, more aerodynamic windshield began when the front end of the bagger lifted while racing across the salt. The Klock Krew developed the idea and brought it to the market. It wasn’t long before Klock Werks welcomed record sales of their new product, the Flare™ Windshield. This week, Klock Werks adds a sportier, ultra low version of the in-demand Flare: the 3.5” windshield for 2014+ FLHT models.
“Previously, the 5” Flare was the lowest version available for these bikes,” Jennifer Bainbridge, Klock Werks’ Lead R&D technician said. “We are responding to the needs of the market with our new 3.5” option. It’s important to provide an optimum height for an array of customers. With this addition, more customers will reap the benefits of added stability and reduced head-buffeting.”
Ninety-eight percent of people who try the Flare before they buy it (Klock Werks Try It Before You Buy It Program), take it home that day! The hard-coated polycarbonate windshield, with its patented hips and flip, have revolutionized the air management market, and thousands of riders around the globe continue to sing its praises. It improves stability and creates a nice, clean pocket of air that reduces wind-buffeting.
There’s no doubt that the Flare Windshield is a life-changing investment! Learn more about the birth of the Flare at getklocked.com, and view a special section of the documentary on “The Flare” page.
Through the month of December, Klock Werks will ship your Flare, and all other parts and merch offered, for free within the continental US. Go to getklocked.com, and get your Flare today!
I love my Klock Werks windshield. Much better than looking through bugs on the stock windshield. I also tried the shorty HD windshield… Buffeting. This one works great.
– Lorri Cleer
I bought this bike used about 2 years ago (I’ve changed a lot since then…). I had the windshield before I even went and picked the bike up! I had ridden a couple of my friends’ bikes that had them on and I was sold.
After a 4-hour ride home on my new-to-me baby, I took a few minutes and threw it on and went for another ride. Couldn’t believe the difference. I wear contacts so my eyes dry out real quick if I don’t have tightly fitting glasses or goggles on.
With the Klock Werks Flare (mine is 8.5”), I can can wear regular sunglasses and never have an issue. The bike feels like it’s planted to the road better when hauling down the highway too. You really feel the difference over 70. I own and operate my own cycle shop and do a lot of test rides on customer’s bikes. A lot haven’t made the switch from the standard shorty windshields. I can tell the difference before I get to the first stop sign leaving the shop.
– Jason Schoonmaker
I’ve had mine on my SG for 3 years now, and I wouldn’t dream of having any other shield on the market! It’s not just the looks, but the functionality and comfort of this shield is the best in the industry. If you don’t have one I would say stop wasting your money and invest in a product that works to perfection!!!
– Lamar N Donna Parrott
The shield is amazing on my F6B. Can hear my stereo and wear a ball cap (forward) at any speed (tested up to 95mph). Thank you for a great product. Worth every penny!
– Kevin Klein
I love the Flare Tall windshield. I’m 6’3” tall, and in the low position, the shield delivers clean air to just above my helmet shield, with minimal low frequency noise. Much better than the short OEM shield, which buffets a little and has a quite heavy blapping noise. I can hear the music much better even in the low setting. In the high setting, I get great coverage, and very quiet air pocket to sit in without being completely blocked off from ventilation air.

SPEAKING OF TRIKES OUR BONNEVILLE TRIKE EFFORT REPORT— I received a call last week from Steve Massicotte, from Paughco. He reported that Duncan Keller stopped by Paughco and checked out the trike. “The bulk of the weight must be over the front wheels for it to handle properly.”
We went into design research mode and Steve discovered a potential solution with Tilting Motor Works, who build front wheel suspension systems to transform any bike into a trike that tilts or leans into the corners. I checked it out.
There could be a major problem with the Tilt guy. This is all about aerodynamics. We can’t have four bars sticking out on each side to the wheel a foot apart.
Regarding our configuration. I have often thought about spoilers over the axles to adjust the weight and thrust on the front wheels, plus add aerodynamics. We should be able to control the weight. Let’s talk about a steering box. I’ll buy one and have it shipped. We want to be able to have fun with this puppy.
I spoke to Duncan and we discussed extending the swingarm and cutting as much of the frame off forward of the engine to move it forward as far as possible. We also discussed adding weights to the front portion of the Salt Torpedo.

AMERICAN IRON MAGAZINE PRESENTS 1001 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FACTS– This book will keep Harley-Davidson enthusiasts entertained for hours, and is a great edition to any motorcycling library.
When anyone thinks of motorcycling, whether they are enthusiasts or only casually interested, the name Harley-Davidson immediately comes to mind. Harley-Davidson is among the oldest surviving motorcycle manufacturers; the company began in 1903 and continues to this day. As you can imagine, over the course of more than 100 years, the company has seen prosperous times as well as lean times, changes in focus and direction, evolution and revolution.
All of that leads to a lot of company history and trivia.American Iron Magazine editor Tyler Greenblatt has compiled 1,001 Harley-Davidson facts into this single volume, with subjects ranging from the historic powertrains to pop culture to Harley-Davidson as a company and manufacturer. Facts begin with the early years, when a motorcycle was not much more than a bicycle with an engine attached, to the war efforts of World War I, when 15,000 were put into service.
During the 1920s, Harley-Davidson grew into the largest manufacturer in the world, and that momentum helped carry it through the Great Depression and into World War II. Postwar development and AMF ownership are also covered in detail, as well as the restructuring and revival of the brand in recent years.
Whether you’re a casual rider, racer, or restorer, Harley-Davidson enthusiasts will be sure to find something in this book for that next conversation with fellow hobbyists.
This book will keep Harley-Davidson enthusiasts entertained for hours, and is a great edition to any motorcycling library.

REPORT FROM THE CLIMATE CALAMITY FRONT– I had an amazing conversation with Mark Block, Linda Hansen and Fred Kelly Grant. They have taken on the EPA and CARB successfully for years. They will help us with a strategy to present to the industry in Cincinnati.
Fred recently worked with a Trucking company fined $800,000 by carb. They reduced the fine to $31,000 and could have eliminated it but the cost was not worth it. The company was exonerated of all issues going forward.
He discussed the memorandum of agreement between CARB and the EPA: You make it work in California and we will make it law in all 50 states.
ARB use to be hostile to EPA yet I have heard recently if you have been fined twice by ARB they send your name to EPA for a closer look too. This is bad news for some who are totally innocent yet settled to avoid the fight and cost associated with it.
As an example of the control freak mentality President Clinton started a campaign against the agricultural industry in 1991. He said something about reducing meat by ’93. These guys saved this industry.
I always stated California has had lush farming and industry for many decades, now too many industries have left and believe this many Ca dairy farmers have moved to New Mexico. Cheaper to pump water on alpha in New Mexico than deal with the regs raising cattle in California is ridicules no?
Shortly I will send you the coordination rule. This forces these agencies to work with local governments in California before they enact restrictions. The new rules can’t mess with local economies. They said we need to look into this as soon as possible. I can’t wait to read this
They also mentioned fraud in the ranks of the EPA and CARB. I believe we have a major leg to stand on, but we need to move quickly. I think Trump is going to have teams of ombudsman working every agency, requiring them to explain how the serve the tax payer. He have heard recently of reports of many highly paid Govt workers who all but work from home are now in their office every day. New Sheriff is coming for this sector
I want to thank Michael Hupy for introducing this team to me. I will continue to share info with you leading into January and the Expo.
–K.BALL
Bikernet.com
The coordination rule is very important, because it was mandated that the EPA must “coordinate” with any local government agencies, committees, etc. on any rule making that effected stakeholders, culture, environment and economy.
To date, I’m unaware of any city or municipality in California that was consulted with and asked to coordinate with the EPA, CARB or anyone on rules effecting the small trucking industry. That’s just a tip of the iceberg.
The EPA is running rough shod over the country and it appears to be toward the goal of fulfilling the U. N. Security Council’s goal of destroying independent nations and sovereignty in lieu of a One World Order.
This is in direct step with the communist theory of using global environmental crisis scares as a way of destroying free enterprise and replacing it with socialism and a central world government.

BIKERNET ANTI-FREEDOM NEWS– Head Injuries Increase After Michigan Repeals Helmet Law
By Cameron Vanderhorst
This one is going to ruffle a few feathers, but it’s a conversation that we motorcyclists need to have. Back in 2012, Michigan partially repealed their helmet law, and it’s only just now that we are seeing the results.
According to the study, foregoing a helmet doubled the odds of a fatality and tripled the odds of a head injury. Even with staggering figures like that, helmet use decreased by 24% in crash samples and 27% in trauma samples. This resulted in a 14% increase in head injuries among hospitalized motorcyclists.
There’s no way around it. Those numbers straight-up suck for motorcyclists. It doesn’t matter how safe you ride, how many precautions you take, or how experienced you are. If you ride long enough, things will happen. And if you really love motorcycling, your friends, and your family, you’ll take steps to make sure that no matter what, you can keep doing the things you love with the people you love for a long, long time.
Look, I get it. Motorcycling is all about freedom, breaking the rules, and doing what you want. But there’s nothing liberating about being stuck in a wheelchair, or worse, a casket. Buy a helmet. There’s plenty of bitchin’ ones to choose from that will keep your noggin safe, they’re cheaper than an ambulance ride, and you’ll be shocked at the reduction in wind noise, bugs to the face, and overall fatigue at the end of the day.
A helmet doesn’t guarantee that you’ll make it out of every situation alive. But in a world filled with giant SUVs, distracted drivers on cellphones, oil slicks, leaves, tire treads, and suicidal animals, it gives you a fighting chance.
Way to go, Michigan!
THE MOTORCYCLE RIDERS FOUNDATION RESPONDS TO MICHIGAN– Industry-Funded Publication Makes Claims About Effects of Helmet Law in Michigan;
Fails to Connect the Data to the Claim
WASHINGTON, DC – In the recently issued publication, “Status Report,” a concerning article appeared citing a rise in head injuries in Michigan and attributed this to the State’s 2012 repeal of its helmet law. Notably, the article is part of a publication created by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) which, according to their website, is wholly funded by insurance companies.
The article pointed out that trauma centers in the state have experienced an increase in head injuries and partnered with the University of Michigan Injury Center to analyze motorcycle crash deaths and head-injury data since the repeal. Its findings suggested a 14% increase in hospitalized trauma patients with a head injury.
However, it was unclear in the article that the increase in head injuries was directly related to motorcycle crashes. And moreover, that those crashes included drivers who were not wearing helmets. This data would have been critical to prove the article’s legitimacy.
Surprisingly, given the article’s clear and matter of fact headline, “Head Injuries Rise as Riders Ditch Helmets in Michigan,” the author fails to notate anywhere in the piece that the increase in head injuries in hospitals is directly attributed to motorcycle crashes and those that were not wearing helmets. For many, the article’s concluding claim could be considered irresponsible journalism given that they fail to attribute the data to the exact subject they discuss in the article.
Furthermore, halfway through the article, it states, “there was no significant increase in the motorcycle fatality rate state-wide.” This sentence alone debunks what the research set out to do which was prove that deaths attributed to motorcycle crashes increased due to the helmet law repeal. Clearly, the research did not support the author’s hypothesis.
Biased pieces like the one in the September issue of Status Report frustrate motorcycle experts in the state who spend their personal time and livelihoods promoting motorcycle safety and awareness programs. Often, these individuals try to direct the focus to motorcycle crash prevention rather than the concept that IIHS touts; safer crashing. According to a recently issued press release from ABATE of Michigan, the real concern for riders’ safety is unendorsed motorcyclists and cars violating motorcyclists’ right of way.
Jim Rhodes, Legislative Coordinator for ABATE of Michigan agrees, stating that his objective, “has and always will be to promote motorcycle safety and car driver awareness programs in Michigan.” In fact, according to Rhodes, the motorcycle rights’ organization in Michigan has helped to pass four separate bills in recent years aimed at addressing the issue of uninsured riders as well as motorcycle safety and awareness. Further, the organization has partnered with public and private schools to reach more than 80,000 new drivers about motorcycle awareness.
Many motorcycle enthusiasts will argue that it’s the activities like the ones being executed by ABATE of Michigan that make the real difference in motorcycle safety and a more accurate reason as to why motorcycle deaths in the state have not increased despite the repeal of the helmet law.

YOKOHAMA MOONEYES SHOW BIKES FROM MIKE MORGAN–

Disgraced ex-Democratic U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah was sentenced Monday to ten years in prison for bribery and stealing campaign contributions, charitable donations, and federal grant money to finance his personal lifestyle–
A probe that expanded more than a year found that Fattah had used federal grant money from NASA to pay back part of an illegal $1 million loan he received from a wealthy friend to fund his failed 2007 campaign for Philadelphia mayor.
For the better part a decade, the longtime Philadelphia Democrat and his television anchor wife led a racketeering enterprise spurred on by loyal aides and political consultants, who commingled campaign cash and nonprofit and government funds to pay for Fattah’s personal expenses.
Fattah was indicted last July. In June, after a month-long trial, a jury found him and four other accomplices guilty on all federal counts, which included wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering.
U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle reportedly called the Philadelphia Democrat’s crimes “astonishing” considering he and his wife had a $500,000 annual income placing them near the “top 1 percent.”
The extent of Fattah’s criminal corruption was far-reaching. He stole $23,000 in nonprofit funds to repay his son, Chaka Fattah Jr.’s, college loans. Fattah Jr. never graduated, and is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for a related fraud case.
Fattah also took an $18,000 bribe to finagle an ambassadorship for a friend. Fattah’s friend never got the ambassador post. He and his wife used the $18,000 in bribe money for a down payment on a vacation home. Fattah falsified records and lied to authorities about the money.
“For someone so interested in advancing education for the disadvantaged, you had the temerity to steal from the Educational Advancement Alliance, a nonprofit supported by government funds,” Judge Bartle said during Monday’s sentencing.
The 60-year-old Congressman-turned-convict was elected to office in 1994. He spent the last two decades in Congress before losing the primary earlier this year.
Last summer, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said she was “deeply saddened” by the news of Fattah’s indictment. He was forced to step down as Ranking Member on the House Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations subcommittee.
“While you have done much good, you also engaged in grave and widespread criminal activity,” Judge Bartle said. “You abused your trust, time and time again.”
Two of Fattah’s political consultants and accomplices pleaded guilty and testified against him. Fattah’s wife, longtime Philadelphia news anchor Renee Chenault-Fattah and their two daughters were not charged.
Democrat Rep. Dwight Evans now holds Fattah’s seat in Congress.

Phoenix, AZ, and Cabazon, CA (December 9, 2016) – Legendary custom motorcycle builder Paul Yaffe will celebrate his through the years exhibition and birthday bash as well as over 25 years in the bike building and custom parts business on Friday, December 16, at the Morongo Casino Resort in Cabazon, CA.
“It all started with a love of motorcycles and a curiosity and desire to see what could be made of them,” says Paul. “I never would have guessed, when I first started experimenting in the mid eighties, that it would lead to where we are today.”
Fans and motorcycle enthusiasts are encouraged to join Paul for his Birthday Bash and Custom Bike Display at the Morongo Casino Resort on Friday Dec. 16th. Not only will attendees get to meet Paul and enjoy libations with him, but Paul will give away his newly created Sailor Jerry Chopper to one lucky partygoer. This is the perfect opportunity for fans to hang out with Paul and a bunch of his bikes, ask him questions, and see firsthand and up close the beauty and power of his metal masterpieces.
Paul has gathered an amazing collection of some of his most memorable custom creations for his Through The Years Exhibition. Fifteen motorcycles will be displayed, including both Discovery bikes (Phantom and Suzy-Q), the Copper Chopper, Prodigy, and, of course, the one slated for giveaway: the Sailor Jerry Chopper. All the bikes will be on display Friday and Saturday.
Paul Yaffe has enjoyed one of the most storied and influential careers in motorcycle designing and building. Paul opened his first custom shop, American Legend Motorcycle Co., in 1991. Today, 25 years later, Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation, together with Paul Yaffe Originals, is recognized as one of—if not the—preeminent custom bike building outfits.
Come join Paul for a great party and the chance to ride away on one of his amazing customs. Anyone can attend, but you have to be present to win the Sailor Jerry Chopper, so register at the casino and get ready to party.

JIMS TOOL OF THE WEEK– No. 1710 Snap Ring Installer & Remover Tool
The task of removing and installing the large snap ring that sits between the tapered Timken bearing races on 1969-2002 Big Twins is almost impossible. That is, before JIMS came out with our Snap Ring Removal & Installation Tool.
This handy little tool clamps onto the retaining ring, allowing a technician to grab it with a pair of heavy duty retaining ring pliers. It may not get used often, but when rebuilding engines, this is a must have.
JIMS No. 1710 Snap Ring Installer & Remover Tool retails for $102.20, features JIMS lifetime tool warranty, and is made in the USA.
New owners want to know what’s new in the market. That’s what the V-twin show is all about.
Plus, we are working with Jim Betlach to bring you the latest info regarding EPA and CARB regs and a strategy for the future. Don’t miss the panel or the documentary “Climate Hustle.”

PROFILING BILL MAKES PROGRESS– Congrats, Jiggs! We actually had 4 members of congress sign on to the profiling bill after our big push for sponsors 2 weeks ago. In addition to Kristi Noem we had Lee Zeldin from NY, Rodney Davis from Illinois and Scott Perry from PA. Brought us a total of 19 co-sponsors all said and done. This was a positive start and I am hopeful that next year we should start with these same 19 and add many more!
Great work to those that got their Member of Congress to sign on.
